  1. Ok was inspired by some of the bookworm threads in HWZ. Reading books maybe considered old fashioned in this day and age. I was clearing out some books and comics out from my parents' storeroom as they are undergoing renovation, so was inspired to start this thread. You can strongly recommend a book or the book you are currently reading. Of course there are sites like goodreads. But I'm curious if any of you still read actively. Any genre is fine except for tiko ones. I read mostly fantasy/urban fantasy/thrillers and more "serious" books. Currently I'm reading this. Thinking, fast and slow by Danial Kahneman. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11468377-thinking-fast-and-slow Do chip in with what you are reading or what you think is a MUST READ!

  7. Nowadays SG kids study too much online porn but no social skills to pick up girls ? Poly student molested 4 fellow students A POLYTECHNIC student was sentenced to six months' jail and fined $600 on Monday for outrage of modesty and other offences. Jee Guang You, 24, was studying at Nanyang Polytechnic when he molested four victims at the library of the Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8 premises last November. He admitted to five of nine charges - two each of outrage of modesty and insulting modesty, and one of theft of undergarments. A Community Court heard that Jee was found to be suffering from paraphilia and fetishism by an Institute of Mental Health doctor. His lawyer Steven Lam said his client's family would make sure that he received proper treatment and monitor him closely. He said Jee, a former N-level and ITE student, got into the polytechnic through sheer hard work. The court backdated Jee's sentence to Dec 3 last year, which means he was released from prison on Monday. He could have been jailed for up to two years, fined, caned or received any of the combination. The maximum for insulting modesty is one year and a fine; and for theft, three years and a fine.

  9. I feel a closeness to my Malay and Indian fellow citizens during this election that was not apparent before. A strange feeling cos we are supposed to be one country and the GRC was set up to attain closer integration and goodwill amongst the races. I guess this feeling arose from the sub conscious that we are one people after all. Perhaps it is also the primal feeling that we need to band together as one against the deluge of foreigners that have flooded in and caused many to feel like strangers in their own land. I have to thank the incumbent government for letting me feel what it means to be Singaporean, as one people, one nation. I am pretty sure they did not mean for it to happen this way though. With pride. A brave lion I will be.
  10. Earlier last week, i have posted about an issue in my newly bought used car. I have taken the car to a mechanic shop and was told that there was short circuit within the steering wheel circuit and it needs rewiring which would cost around 150$ or changing the steering wheel would cost around 1000$!! I doubted their diagnostic skill and took the car back and posted about the issue in the forum. One fellow forumer (Neutralsg) asked my contact number and called me. He is so good and patience in listing to what i said, suggested to take the veh to C&C for problem identification and before doing that, he asked to me check couple of things. One of them was to check the battery of my remote key and helped me how to put the new battery into the remote key. I did the same thing and that fixed the whole issue in my car. Just because the battery in my remote key went flat, the theft alarm was being triggered and though i have mentioned all these things to mechanics, they doesn't even bothered or nor realized about this simple thing. I am posting this thread to just spread the word for the true meaning of forum where each of us help together to resolve our issues rather than stirring\creating new issue through the forum. I am grateful to Neutralsg, not for just saving me some bugs, but for his spirit to help me even though i am totally stranger to him. He spent almost 15 mins on call to listen my issue and given his expertise to resolve it. Kudos Neutral sg, people like you makes life beautiful.
  11. Wifey was in driving off car when a van stop beside her n a AhBeng in uniform signal her to stop n wind down windscreen, Ah beng ask my wife for help n ask her if she have a moment to spare, wifey come down n they ask her if she can take their goods-some speakers into our car, wife say dun wan but Ah beng say they really can't bring this speaker back to their office or they will be in trouble, They told wifey that these speaker cost $2999 n show her a mag wth the picture of the speaker, wifey say no need but they block her n refuse to let her get back into her car n beg her to help them, n ask for some "beer money" $800... wifey knows something is fishy but as she is all alone n worried that they turn violent, she told them only have $50, they ask if she have ATM card to draw more money, as wifey is rushing for time n these r 3 ah bengs corner her she no choice but relent, she brought the speakers fr them.... it is actually a low-end speaking selling at a mid-range speaker price.... In future if any forumer saw this van stop beside u n ask u for help to take their speaker n ask for coffee money, just drive off immediately, don't entertain them...it is a scam!! btw, the van no. is GW 5884 A but the alphabet may be wrong... anyway this van is not white but green/blue colour; May refer to this site for more info...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_van_speaker_scam it is a long time scam but many pple is still fallen for it, n they seem pretty aggressive recently.

  13. This is extracted from the forum of Mazda Club. Hope the lady in that cab could stand out & be a witness From the straitstimes today..: A 30-YEAR-OLD man was fighting for his life in Tan Tock Seng Hospital last night after a traffic dispute along Scotts Road spiralled out of control. Mr Alex Lim, 30, is in intensive care with severe head injuries sustained after he was allegedly hit by a taxi on Monday night at about 9.30pm. The swelling was so bad that doctors had to remove part of his brain, his family members told The Straits Times. Having already been operated on twice, the financial adviser was still unconscious last night. The taxi driver, who is in his early 60s, was arrested and later released on bail. He is being investigated for allegedly committing a rash act resulting in grievous hurt. Mr Lim's girlfriend, Ms Yvonne Lin, was a passenger in his car and claimed to have witnessed the entire incident. She said they were driving to his home for dinner. While along Paterson Road near Wheelock Place, Mr Lim's red Mazda 3 was involved in a minor collision with a Comfort taxi. Both vehicles pulled over farther down the road, alongside Shaw House. The drivers got out of their vehicles, which had been parked one behind the other, and started 'exchanging words', said Ms Lin, 24, a bank employee. The dispute apparently unresolved, the taxi driver got back into his taxi and tried to drive off. 'But Alex stood in front to stop him ... He didn't have his particulars yet,' said Ms Lin. The taxi then started moving off and Mr Lim fell on its bonnet. Farther down the road, the taxi stopped and he fell off, landing on the back of his head in the left lane of the road. Ms Lin said she then got out of the car and ran 'quite a distance' towards him. 'He was bleeding very badly from his ears and nose. I was trying to clean up the blood...I was afraid he would choke. 'He was still conscious then. He was just screaming and screaming,' she said. An ambulance took him to hospital. A ComfortDelGro spokesman said last night the driver 'will be off the road while investigations are ongoing'. Ms Lin is now appealing for a female passenger in the taxi to come forward and offer her eyewitness account. The woman got out of the cab after Mr Lim was hit, she said. His aunt, among family members keeping vigil in hospital said, crying: 'His mother had prepared his favourite dishes. 'She was waiting and waiting, but he never came home. He lost so much blood.'
