  1. Was chatting with a fellow brother and we were arguing about how having turbo will contribute to FC. I was on the camp that having turbo, FC friendliness will only be achieved if the required gear-ratio vs RPM is achieved. He was on the camp that turbo is FC friendly regardless, only the max BHP is the difference at the correct gear-ratio vs RPM. so, just to generate some chit chat. i am bored. share your views.
  2. Hey guys. When making a car purchase decision, I believe in doing research online first before heading down to do the test drive. So specs on paper will determine what goes into my shortlist. I realise that sgcarmart shows the bhp for used cars. Problem is, I do not know which models to start off with. I'm looking more at semi-luxury used cars. Like Camry, C-class kinda range. Which are the models with high bhp : price ratio Please advise.
  3. Anyone can explain more on what is meaning of tall gear or short gear ratio and how it affects fc & acceleration? I read some saying that tall gear is good for fc but bad for acceleration?
  4. Hi Guys, just want to know what is the perfect A/F ratio in our weather, for N/A engines.?My "Z" is running at 10.5:1 at W.O.T.,which is too high according to my tuner,so he have bring it down to 12.5:1 at W.O.T.,just want to know,"Leaner" will it ruin the engine.?Thanks.
  5. The purpose of monitoring your A/F ratio is let you know how you should control your right foot. IF you step too much, you notice the A/F going to the rich range (for more power), then you will back off the throttle and let it remain in stoichiometric range. IF not, you can have very light throttle and let it run lean. Thus I feel its very useful to have one installed to monitor. I am using one myself to monitor my right foot.
  6. Hi guys, I came across this passage when was reading an article about improving car performance: "Higher compression ratios produce more power, up to a point. The more you compress the air/fuel mixture, however, the more likely it is to spontaneously burst into flame (prior to the spark plug igniting it). Higher octane gasolines prevent this sort of early combustion. That is why high-performance cars generally need high octane gasoline - their engines are using higher compression ratios to get more power." Is it true? Does it mean that those car with high compression ratio need to use high grade fuel e.g. v-power?
  7. hi, any bros have website that state the power to weight ratio for each cars? curious on the power to weight ratio for nissan sunny, latio, suzuki swift and mazda 2sp. apparently the sunny kerb weight is 1110kg and has 110bhp while the latio kerb weight is also 1110kg and has 109 bhp. does that actually mean latio is very much underpowered like the sunny? O.O!!! power-to-weight ratio at 99? if im nt wrong swift 1.5A GLX is at 97? swift is more underpowered than latio and sunny?!!?
  8. Hi 2 all Maths shifu, another brain crackin' day... Mother bought a total of 120 apples n oranges in d ratio of 3:5. After she gave away an equal nbr of ea type of fruits, d ratio of d nbr of apples to d nbr of oranges left is 3:8. How many apples does she have now? Many thanks... Though answer is 18, got 2 it by guess n check method, wonder if there r other approaches?
  9. can anyone tell me wat is the compression ratio for the 2001 estima ACR30.thx
  10. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I understand that a bored throttle body will improve low-end torque (and therefore increase FC) whilst changing your final drive ratio will improve your high-end torque (and therefore decrease FC). If I were to do these two mods together, what's the final effect? Will I have both improved low- and high-end torque? Or will these be cancelled out? Also, what will happen to my FC? An overall increase, decrease or no change? Thanks!
  11. During wide open throttle (WOT) or heavy revving, the reading should be RICH (or yellow LED reading). During deceleration, the reading is either not visible or at the LEAN (or red LED reading). So, if it's normal cruising, the reading should be moving from RICH-STOICH-LEAN-STOICH-RICH repeatedly right?
  12. i know this sounds abit stupid if some of ur see this.. but anyway, got intro into this method by one of a fellow MCFer driving a cabstar.. but then, he uses Shell 95.. i use Silver Techron (95) from Caltex.. i was just wondering if the petrol mix will make the consumption improve as the engine is "cleaned".. just want to try out as they (Caltex) say techron can clean the engine etc.. pumping full tank will give me a $100 bill .. so i tried a mixture.. with first the petrol followed by diesel as petrol is lighter.. just tried it out a moment ago, butt dyno shows that engine is smoother and quieter.. mileage on full tank of diesel (50L w/o reserve): 495km mileage with this mix will be shown to all when i have finished the tank.. appreciate comments from fellow bros.. especially those driving diesel vehicles or drove before..
  13. I've got a silly question. Why aren't steering wheels built to a turning ratio of 1:1? E.g. If you turn the Steering wheel of the car 90 degrees, the wheel should turn 90 degrees as well. Wouldn't a car like that be easier to drive? Just wondering....
  14. Anyone can shed some light on what S/N ratio and THD means ? They are mentioned in most car amp tech specs ... e.g. THD at Rated Power: <0.08% @ 4 ohm (20 Hz - 20 kHz) S/N Ratio: >104 dB (A-weighted, 20 Hz
  15. The list below shows the power to weight ratios of Asian made cars in descending order from best to worst. The score at the end of each car name is the ratio - the bigger the number the better. taken from the VOGS forum.. 16. where can i buy air fuel ratio guages cheaply and reliable with installation?
  17. Hi, anyone can advice how lean can we push for TC car at high load and high rpm region? I am runing about 10.5:1 and that seems safe and stable. But had seen people going at 11.5:1 or even 12:1, much better power, but is it safe for the engine ? Anyone with proven experience can share ?
  18. I noticed that the auto Octy's rpm is quite high when cruising. 100km/h at 3000rpm. Got once I hit 125km/h and the rpm was at 4000 and roaring! Anyone care to comment?
  19. i have read quite a fair bit abt close ratio gearbox, all claim to be able to hit optimum RPM faster and stay within optimum RPM for respective powerbands of each gear. other than higher fuel consumption, i havent found out other disadvantages. anyone can enlighten me? thks.
  20. Hi i just got this istalled at mcwell a few days ago. any of you got problems with a/f readings? somehow it's tell me my a/f ratios are 19 at idle and 15.4 at WOT, isn't this way to lean? checked my spark plugs at jc today and it looks perfectly normal. how? are my readings wrong or did mcwell tap into wrong wire for o2 sensor.... pls help
  21. My colleague want to change the front/rear wheel to different ratio. Front 50/15", Rear 55/15" and said his friend is doing that and acheive better performance, better pickup. I just feel that it's all bulls**t since their car is only FWD. It can never obtain performance from bigger rear wheel but will be more draggy. Some more the turning radius is different. Dunno will cause any damage. Need some comment from expert here. Sigh !
