  2. Hi Bros, Can anyone recommend good and reliable workshop that is able to check on clutch amd gearbox for auto transmission? Will need to repair if faulty. Thanks in advance
  3. Anyone has done gearbox overhaul or repair before ? (fil car) due to sound coming out from car, workshop says it is gearbox spoilt, and recommend car to be sent to gearbox overhaul specialist. any workshop to recommend ? what is the estimate price ? Thanks !!
  4. My honda civic FD4 gear box occasionally engage the reverse gear is difficult. The car will do a big jump into reverse. Anyone encountered this B4? Hoping to avoid a big overhaul job.
  5. This is a Koenigsegg Regera. I would do unspeakable things to own one of these. One of the things that make the Regera astonishing, beyond its price, 1500 horsepower twin-turbo V8 with 3 electric motors or the simple fact it’s a Koenigsegg, is the fact it has no gearbox. Koenigsegg have opted to throw out conventional power delivery systems and make a new one instead, calling it Koenigsegg Direct Drive (DDT). I am not smart enough to understand or explain how it works but it saves weight and prevents energy wastage during acceleration using the electric motors. This bus thought it was capable of being one of these dream machines, but crippled itself instead. What happened? A camcar on Redhill Close, 12 April, saw a peculiar sight where a private bus was on the road, and left its gearbox behind with it. The bus was of course stranded with no way to move, and forced traffic to weave around it. It is unknown what caused this failure, as well as if anyone is hurt or how long it took to get the bus off the road. There doesn't seem to be an accident as the bus's exterior looks untouched but there's plenty of metal bits covering the road as well. Online chatter The jokes were of course on the gearbox, but it varied on whether it was meant to be a birth or a dump. Others were also concerned about the condition of such vehicles and what were vehicle inspections for if buses like these were still allowed on the road. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 6. Dear Esteemed Readers, It is with a heavy heart and a huge dose of disillusionment that I would like to share with you a personal anecdote about the Nissan Qashqai. Firstly, to be fair, with respect to the road tax- and petrol- saving 1.2 L Qashqai, the first five years of driving had been a breeze. However, all heel broke loose, merely a day after my Qashqai's 6th birthday last September. The chronology of my Qashqai's meltdown is as follows (I apologise for any technical typo): A. Replacement of the faulty (1) Evaporator Cooling Coil $320 (6 Sep 2021) (2) Dashbox $280 (6 Sep 2021) (3) Tow Truck Activation $140 (29 Oct 2021) (3) Thermostat Housing $270 (30 Oct 2021) (4) Manifold Gadget $60 (30 Oct 2021) (5) Fan Motor - Air Con $320 (30 Oct 2021) B. Dismantling and Assembly Costs in total $470 C. Locked gearbox with inability to shift the gear from Parking to Drive As recently as last December, it had taken me an average of 5 to 10 minutes to wait for the gearbox to disengage and move off but the situation dovetailed to a complete lockdown last month in which I have to use a pen to depress the Shift Lock button in every instance of gear shifting. D. Busted Speakers The last straw that broke the camel's back occurred yesterday when suddenly, the speakers just blared as loud as a car horn within the car (even at the lowest volume), the intensity of which still leaves me shell-shocked. I sincerely hope that the aforementioned sequence of unfortunate events only applies to yours truly but on a cautious note, I would strongly urge you to re-consider your buying option upon selection of a second-hand Qashqai. Thank you for reading.
  7. I leave my car at car park for a week unused. last night I try to start me car. I crank many times and then finally started. The battery was strong. After start, the car vibrate a bit while. The RPM needle move up and down and dieing off again. AFter warm up, car back to normal. What happen? ANy advise
  8. I have past experiences of not changing auto transmission filter and causing the transmission to fail. How is your experience in getting any authorized dealer like Borneo Motors to change the ATF? Or has anyone changed via AD before?
  9. Dear Seniors, I will like to ask if any of you are driving this particular model, as I have been experiencing it gearbox problems. A couple of time while in the jam, the panel will display a red message warning me that the Auto gearbox over heated. Did went and told the service staff at Wearners, which they told me that this car is using dual clutch. In a traffic jam situation, it will be advisable that i put it to neutral to prevent it from overheating, as the clutch system well keep on engaging while stationary during the jam. The other problem that i am experiencing is that at times, after starting the engine and move on, i will experience jerking or the gears not changing by itself and will keep dragging the gear when i accelerate. Suppose to move from 3 to 4th gears, the gear will just stuck at 3rd. Feedback to the service staffs before during routine servicing, they told me sometimes it is the on board computer system error, which I will need to stop the car, cut off the engine and wait for a few seconds before restarting the engine again and the problem will go away. This morning such problem happen again while i was on ECP. As i am not able to stop the car in the middle of expressway, therefore, I stop it after reaching the traffic light near Bugis. But before that I switch the gear system to manual while on the expressway. I was on 4th gear and try to swift the gear up as i moved faster, but the gear just skip 5th and go straight to 6th gear. Same thing when lowering the gear. I will skip 5th gear and move straight to 4th while i was on the 6th. My concern now is that as this car is coming 3 years old. Should I get the gear box change while it is still under warranty? Please advise. thanks. P.S: I am a normal driver whom don't play with manual gear as I used automatic gear since this is a daily car. When i do reversing, I will wait for a second or 2 before swifting from D drive to R.
  10. If the owners do take care of the oil changes I am positively sure the failures will be minimal, though the question if the gearbox is as durable as the standard auto is questionable, as many sites have indicated that a well cared CVT gearbox has a lifespan of 120-160K km, while an standard box will last far longer with minimal maintenance! Are the above infos true? My Airwave gearbox just gameover at 220 000 km. A mechanic I spoke to told me that this is a very common problem. One of his customer's Odyssey game over at 160 000km.
  11. Last Friday morning, I realised that something was wrong with my 08 Passat 1.8TSI's gearbox (only had 3rd Gear when driving forwards - No problem with Park, Neutral and Reverse). Even when I tried to change gear manually, or use a different mode, it still stayed in 3rd gear when driving (indicator is always 3). Hence it was pretty sluggish off the line, and to maintain highway speeds, the engine was rather strained. So, I drove straight to VW Service Centre. At first, the receptionist said that a Master Technician needed to take a look at my car, and asked me to have a seat at the lounge. And around 9am, she came by and told me that the Master Technician was still with another car, and that I should leave my key with them, and that they would call me back when they found out what was wrong with my car. I waited until 2pm Friday afternoon to call them, and that was when I realised that they had passed my "case" onto a Service Advisor. When I finally spoke to the Service Advisor, he informed me that there was a queue of cars waiting for a Master Technician to take a look. He then advised me that my car could only be seen on Saturday at the earliest. I then requested that he call me once my car was seen and to update me on the situation. Saturday morning came and went and after several missed calls, I finally managed to speak to my Service Advisor who apologetically informed me that my car had not been seen. He could not even indicate when my car could be seen, and that it is likelt to be Monday. I called again this morning (monday) and he said he would call me back... I called again in the afternoon... and he still hadn't stopped seeing his case load of incoming cars.... 72+ hours (3 days) of cars and no one can tell me if anything is wrong with my car (or if it was just a temporary issue). Are there so many VW cars at the workshop, or just so few technicians and mechanics?
  12. I am new to a DSG gearbox (been only a week) so would welcome some advice. When going up the incline in HDB car park, my VW Golf 1.4TSI seems remarkably reluctant. I do know why this is happening - as I approach the incline I need to slow down (brake) and turn right to get onto the slope. The DSG gearbox thinks I am going to stop, so it is not in the right gear as I complete my turn. Opening the throttle slightly does not move the car up the incline, and with more throttle it moves too quickly. Also I have noted that when going down the incline in HDB car park, when you take your foot off the brake, and step on the accelerator, it seems reluctant to get going again. Again, I do know why this is happening... the DSG gearbox thinks I am going to stop, so it is not in the right gear as I complete my turn Have you encountered the same issue, and do you have any techniques, or is it just a matter of getting used to it? Been driving AT & CVT, and none of them had this issue. Thanks in advance, Naresh.
  13. Thankfully, BMW has confirmed that its upcoming M3 sedan and M4 coupe will be available with a manual transmission. As reported by BMW Blog and Carscoops, BMW M Chief Executive Markus Flasch announced the news when he was asked in an interview whether or not there will be any surprises for BMW fans with the new M3 and M4. It’s a bit early to disclose all the details but something I want to highlight is that we will have a manual stick shift,” he said. “We have already disclosed we will have the option of four-wheel drive. We’ve not decided which variant, which system, but everything that’s on our current lineup; think of the M5; can be made available. The M3 and M4, I’ve driven the pre-production cars already and they’re fantastic.” Flaschadded on, “Manual is very important. The manual stick shift is not a performance-bringer, because an automatic transmission is just faster, you can ask any race driver,” he said. “But it gives the vehicle character and I kind of compare it to people who love mechanical watches; it isn’t more precise and it doesn’t have any advantage at all but it’s a character feature. So is a stick shift.” There is no confirmation on whether the M3/4's all-wheel drive system will have a rear-wheel drive mode like the M5, but we would be surprised if it didn't.
  14. In an interview with Aston Martin Chief Executive Andy Palmer, Car Sales, an Australian publication, found out that the new Vanquish is likely to get a manual gearbox. Going against the trend, the upcoming mid-engined car will of course get another transmission option but we are pleasantly surprised to hear of another sports car manufacture other than Porsche who would offer a self-shifting option to its customers. That said, Palmer did not specifically say ‘yes’ directly when he was interviewed. “I’ve already made a commitment that I want to be the last manufacturer in the world to offer manual sports cars and I want to honour that commitment,” Palmer remarked. The new car will be using an aluminum platform and a twin-turbocharged V6 with a small electric motor, and while the company hasn’t said how much grunt it will have, you can expect it to have around 800bhp or so.
  15. Last week, we published a post where we reported that two thirds of the Toyota 86s sold in US were automatics. However, Mazda begs to differ with some stats of their own and give the manual transmission supporters some hope. U.S. publication Autoblog spoke to Mazda PR program manager Tim Olson and was told that a staggering 76% of the MX-5 buyers in America selected the manual transmission option, leaving the rest with the six-speed automatic. Being the purer car, the sales data was based on the soft-top version of the car from July 2018. As for the MX-5 RF, 52% of the sales in the past 12 months were made up of stick shift cars while the remaining 48% sold have the automatic gearbox. While the above numbers do proof that driving enthusiasts are still voting with their money for manual gearboxes, it is weird to find Toyota reporting that only 33% of its 86 buyers opt for the self-shifting option.
  16. With more and more brands abandoning the manual gearbox, the amount of drivers being able to drive cars equipped one also lessens day by day. With that in mind, Volkswagen USA thinks that its latest Jetta GLI, when optioned with a manual gearbox, would easily deter thieves. In its latest commercial for the sports sedan, it portrayed the aforementioned idea in just that way. However, while it was cheeky of them to come out with this advertisement, they did put a small line at the end of the video saying, “Legally we have to tell you that you should always lock your car, so you should lock your car." to make sure viewers should only take it as a joke. It is unknown whether the latest Jetta GLI will make it to our sunny shores.
  17. hi all wish to know how to determine a auto gearbox haf gone kaput? meaning slip gearbox? as currently driving 04 wish and my previous car are all manual one how to check and determine? is there any way that i can repair the original one? thank
  18. Hopefully you guys can post this in the maintenance and repair section I have a 2013 manual Honda Accord. Yesterday I was driving it and all of a sudden the clutch went soft and now the pedal is stuck to the floor. The clutch fluid reservoir is still full. My mechanic told me it is probably the clutch master cylinder. My problem is that right now I don't have enough money to pay my mechanic to fix it. I drive for UBER for a living so I need my car working in order to make money. So I have a couple questions. First, do you agree with my mechanic that the problem is most likely the master cylinder? Secondly, I have not worked on cars much and have only done simple things myself. So I was wondering if replacing the master cylinder is a task that I should attempt to take on myself?
  19. Hi, Im new here and in the world of cars(I passed driving school 3 months ago). I took my granpas Seat Cordoba 1.4 petrol with 75HP. Its first petrol car i have driven and somethings weird. When I press throtle a bit more than usual its like it goes to neutral, rpm is going up but speed is going down and it goes like that for a 2-3 seconds. Why could that be? P.S. Im driving my mothers Corsa c 1.7 DI and fathers Peugeot 406 2.0 HDI and they drive normally. This thing happens only on that seat and only for me.
  20. MCF-forumers, I am looking to purchase a used 350Z roadster. However, I was looking for some advice first - 1. Anyone knows if the auto gearbox can take torque mods and how much can the gearbox take? 2. Any cautions from bros who used before? 3. Any advice? Thanks in advance.
  21. Recently got a Fiat and sometimes the gear cannot be engaged for unknown reasons. Anybody else facing this same problem?
  22. Here are five signs of transmission problems you should not ignore: 1. Transmission Slipping If you're experiencing automatic transmission slipping, it can feel like you're driving in a certain gear and then it changes for no apparent reason. 2. Rough Shifts The transmission feels like it’s refusing to change gears as it normally does. 3. Delayed Engagement You experience a delay before the car starts moving forward after you engage into Drive mode. 4. Fluid Leak Notice leakage of red or brown colour fluid below your vehicle. 5. "Check Engine" Lights Up Your "Check Engine" warning light comes on in conjunction with any of the above symptoms. Let us help you with your transmission diagnostics and repairs. Fill the Form Below for any enquiries! We'll be glad to be able to assist you.
  23. Dear all, I am thinking of Harrier 2014 CVT Gearbox change to harrier Turbo gearbox. I know it sounds ridiculous but with all due respect will it make any difference? If so just let's discuss here.
  24. Assuming proper maintenance is done. I unsure if 4 / 5 / 6 speed n 8 / 9 speed belong to same cat, thus the separate cat. Some articles here - http://articles.latimes.com/2014/feb/12/business/la-fi-autos-reliability-20140213 http://www.aa1car.com/library/what_goes_wrong_with_cars.htm http://www.telegraph.co.uk/cars/advice/which-sort-of-auto-gearbox-is-best-/ Also appreciate contributions from fellow experienced bro / sis. Nowadays rides getting pricey, thus I hope with the introduction of such a thread & constructive inputs, all car-owners / would-be owners can benefit / make informed decision. Kindness n objectivity r greatly appreciated. Do not treat mentioning of particular brand / make as bashing.
