This is because my department regularly organise team lunch/dinner and we are running out of great halal food ideas for our muslim colleagues.Pax size between 4 to 6. Appreciate all suggestions/ideas. If do a quick search google there's too much options and mostly paid ads. Would prefer genuine recommendations. 3. KEDAH - Malaysia will enforce a smoking ban on restaurants, coffee shops and hawker stalls nationwide from Jan 1, Sin Chew Daily cited Deputy Health Minister Lee Boon Chye as saying on Thursday (Oct 11). The ban will cover all air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned restaurants, coffee shops, open-air hawker centres and street stalls. Dr Lee announced the mandatory ban while chairing a health forum at the Asian Institute of Medical, Science and Technology in Kedah. Those caught smoking at prohibited areas will be fined RM10,000 (S$3,300) and eateries found not enforcing the ban will be fined RM2,500. The Star newspaper reported in September that the health ministry was pushing to gazette all open-air restaurants as no-smoking areas, according to Dr Lee. The gazettement was not only to encourage smokers to kick the habit, but also to protect non-smokers from second-hand smoke due to tobacco products. "No doubt smokers will say they have the right to smoke, but non-smokers also have the right to have smoke-free areas," Dr Lee had said. The Gopeng MP is also seeking his fellow MPs' support to shut down the smoking room in Parliament by October. He hopes the MPs who smoke will take the opportunity to quit smoking. "This gazettement is Malaysia's commitment as a member state to the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control and adheres to the guidelines under Article 8 of the World Health Organisation," he added. The current Control of Tobacco Product (Amendment) Regulations 2017 prohibits smoking in 21 areas including hospitals, public toilets, lifts, government premises as well as air-conditioned shops and offices.

  7. http://www.ladyironchef.com/2014/01/singapore-affordable-sushi-restaurants/#more-33854 Dining out in Singapore does not have to leave a hole in your wallet. There are several sushi joints in town which serve good Japanese food at very reasonable prices. Here is a guide to affordable sushi restaurants in Singapore. Fukuichi Japanese Dining Fukuichi Japanese Dining is one of my to-go places for good Japanese food. It is located in a quiet corner of 111 Somerset Road, making it a great place for gatherings with friends. If you are on a budget, go for their set lunches, which are mostly priced from S$16 to S$20. 111 Somerset Road TripleOne Somerset Tel: +65 6271 5586 Daily: 11.30am – 3pm, 5.30pm – 12am Nearest Station: Somerset Itacho Sushi Salmon skin sushi for S$0.40 – everyone will know Itacho Sushi because of this. And more than that, they are a favourite because of the wide variety of sushi creations at very friendly prices. When dining at Itacho, treat yourself to a selection of makis, rolls and nigiris made with fresh ingredients. They have very value-for-money lunch sets, too. #03-03/31 Changi Airport Terminal 3 65 Airport Boulevard Tel: +65 6241 8911 Sun to Thu: 11am – 10pm Fri & Sat 11am – 11pm Nearest Station: Changi Koh Grill & Sushi Bar Koh Grill & Sushi Bar is a small eatery nestled a corner of Wisma’s Food Republic which serves delicious and inexpensive Japanese food. The star dish here is the legendary Shiok Maki. It is made up of avocado, unagi and aburi salmon, drenched with the most amazing cheesy sauce that is seemingly a legit mixture of mayo and mentai, and completed with a generous topping of tobiko. This is surely one place for a quick fix of Japanese food in between shopping at Orchard Road. 435 Orchard Road #04-21 Wisma Atria Shopping Centre Tel: +65 9180 3805 Daily: 11.30am – 10.30pm Nearest Station: Orchard Ryoshi Sushi Ikeikemaru Ryoshi Sushi Ikeikemaru may be a conveyer belt sushi restaurant, but don’t let that fool you into thinking that they are a medicore joint. They have surprisingly fresh sushi at pocket-friendly prices – definitely worth a try when you are craving for Japanese food. 177 River Valley Road Basement 1 Liang Court Tel: +65 6337 1022 Daily: 11am – 9.30pm Nearest Station: Clarke Quay Sushi Tei One of the most popular casual Japanese restaurants in Singapore, Sushi Tei is where locals head to for cheap and good Japanese food. There are many popular dishes, but we love the absolutely stunning Sashimi Salad, which comes with a generous serving of sashimi; and the Golden Roll. 252 North Bridge Road #03-13/14 Raffles City Tel: +65 6334 7887 Daily: 11.30am – 10pm Nearest Station: City Hall The Sushi Bar The Sushi Bar at level three of Far East Plaza serves the standard dishes like sushi, sahimi, Japanese-style pastas and donburis, but if you only have room for one dish, you must try the much-lauded Salmon Aburi Sushi (S$14.50). It is really good, and the main reason why this hole-in-the-wall sushi bar is always packed with regulars. #03-89 Far East Plaza 14 Scotts Road Mon to Sat: 12.30pm – 9pm Nearest Station: Orchard Tomi Sushi Tomi Sushi may not be the cheapest restaurant in this guide, but it offers a variety of set lunches which are great value for money. Let’s make this clear: Tomi Sushi is not one of those classy Japanese restaurants where you bring your partner on a date night; it is more like a neighbourhood joint where you know that the food is always good, and you are surrounded by families happily tucking in. #02-76/77 Velocity 238 Thomson Road Tel: +65 6255 2355 Daily: 11.30am – 10.30pm Nearest Station: Novena Wasabi Tei Wasabi Tei used to command long queues during its heydays, but since its former Chef Peter left, business has slowed down significantly. While the food is not out-of-this-world good, there is no denying that it is very affordable – most of the bento sets are priced between S$6 to S$12. If you need a fuss-free meal when in Orchard Road, this is a place where you can have decent Japanese food without breaking the bank. And best of all, you no longer have to queue up to get a table here. #05-70, Far East Plaza, 14 Scotts Road Tel: +65 6238 8216 Mon to Fri: 12pm – 3pm, 5.30pm – 9.30pm Sat: 12pm – 9.30pm Nearest Station: Orchard

  15. So far, I find the Kura one of the better one, which is one street before the Crystal Crowne Hotel. The Kirishima in Crystal Crowne Hotel (frequent by the Japanese) also not too bad, but seating is a problem for family. Unless you can get them to give you the private room. The more comfortable dinning areas are unfortunately meant for the smokers. Regards,

  18. Anyone tried Carnivore at Vivo before? Thinking of going there for weekday lunch, but is there a lot of any difference between the lunch and dinner menu? Cause lunch seems a lot cheaper ******************************************************************************** ********** Meaty Joints Huang Lijie Sun, Sep 16, 2007 The Sunday Times WHEN researcher Connie Ng craves meat, she makes a beeline for Carnivore, an all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant serving Brazilian-style barbecued meats at VivoCity. The restaurant is one of at least eight churrascarias - or Brazilian-style steakhouses - here, which are becoming increasingly popular. In the last year alone, three such buffet outlets have sprung up with two more in the pipeline next year. 'The huge variety of meats on the menu is a definite draw. But what I like about dining at a churrascaria is that the buffet comes to my table and I don't have to jostle at a buffet counter,' says Ms Ng, 32. In churrascarias (pronounced shoo-hus-ka-REE-ahs in Portuguese), trained waiters go from table to table with long skewers of barbecued meats - beef, pork, chicken and lamb - which they carve onto diners' plates. The waiters called passadores (pah-sah-DOR-es) bring a new type of meat to each table every few minutes. Churrascarias here offer between six and 16 types of barbecued meats, including seafood such as fish. The various cuts of beef - typically the rump, hump, tenderloin and topside - however, remain the highlight and are usually imported from Brazil. Another common feature is the salad bar, which serves an array of greens and hot stews. When Mr David Gabriel opened Brazil Churrascaria, the first of its kind here in 1994, he never doubted that there were enough meat lovers to sustain the business. 'My target customers were the Singaporeans who had grown up with Kentucky Fried Chicken and McDonald's and were ready for a big meat restaurant,' says the 63-year-old. Customers at these restaurants, though, are not just athletes on a high-protein diet, hungry national servicemen or growing teenagers with voracious appetites. Mr K.K. Ng, 41, group general manager of Carnivore, which opened its first outlet in Chijmes in 2004, says the churrascaria counts among its customers at VivoCity families with children as well as senior citizens. Indeed, the demand for a novel dining concept and a meat-centred buffet was what prompted the opening of other churrascarias. Mr James Lian, 35, partner of three-year-old Samba Brazilian Steakhouse Churrascaria in Katong Village, says: 'I'd eaten at churrascarias in Singapore and I found the style of service refreshing, and offering value for money. These factors convinced me that there was room in the market for another player.' Churrascaria offerings here, however, adapt to the local palate. Vibe restaurant at Negara in Claymore hotel in Claymore Road, which offers churrasco for dinner, serves char siew, Chinese honey grilled pork and a salmon sashimi spread. Brazil Churrascaria uses Australian rather than Brazilian beef, as its customers prefer the less gamey taste of the former. Mr Carlos Brian Pheysey, 40, a trade adviser at the Embassy of Brazil, who has eaten at six of the churrascarias here, says the restaurants make a serious effort to emulate what is offered in Brazil, but laments that the meat served here is not cooked as rare as that in Brazil, which 'leaves blood on the dinner plate'. That said, business has been good for the eight churrascarias LifeStyle interviewed. Brazil Churrascaria, which cost about $1 million to set up, boasts an annual 40 to 50 per cent return on investment. And just last month, Gabriel opened Seven On Club in Club Street, which offers both the full churrasco and an a la carte Mediterranean menu. Similarly, Carnivore at Chijmes recovered its start-up cost of $200,000 within just three months. General manager Mr Ng believes that its outlet in VivoCity, which opened last November at more than $1 million, will do the same by the end of this year. The popularity of the churrascarias is evident from the 30-minute to hour-long waits for walk-in diners at most of the restaurants during peak hours. This positive reception has fuelled expansion plans. Mr Gabriel is looking to open another outlet in the East Coast area next year while Carnivore is setting up two more branches in the next two years. Where to go for Churrascarias CHURRASCARIAS owe their origins to the cattle drivers of southern Brazil many centuries ago. They sustained themselves in the wild by slaughtering cattle and roasting them on a spit over an open fire. Below are eight churrascarias here.
