  1. Just curious, at what price level of car price you will be able to afford at different total asset scenario. the three diff question shows at 3 diff stage of total asset scenario. BMW means public transport. assuming total asset include your residence, investment, cash etc minus off loan.
  2. Get a Huansu C60!https://www.topgear.com/car-news/suvs/cant-afford-lamborghini-urus-get-huansu-c60 There was a time when it was easy to poke fun at the Chinese car industry, seeing rather too many of its models as blatant copies of designs familiar in Europe. The Range Rover Evoque-aping Land Wind X7 is a classic example. Recently, though, it’s been fair to see China as a developing threat for manufacturers on this side of the world. But now the Huansu C60 has been revealed. While it’s not a total rip-off of a Lamborghini Urus, it’s fair to say there’s more than a passing resemblance, particularly around the front. The headlights and intake shapes are all eerily familiar, though with only a little 2.0-litre turbo engine to keep cool (rather than the Lambo’s 641bhp V8), some of the grille has been turned into daytime running lights. Continue around the car and you’ll find a window line and sculpting seemingly modelled on the Urus, though the C60 looks taller and less aggressive. Whatever you make of the Lambo’s styling, it’s fair to admit the Huansu is less cohesive in comparison. Its designers have put the rear door handle in a much neater place, though…
  3. Just wondering , with the property going up north , at what combined income do you think an average Singapore can afford a Pte property > $1.2m comfortably ? EC > $1m for combined income of 12k is it too pushy / risky ?
  4. Just crazy really. Shows that ostentatious displays of wealth may not really be what they seem. But before this turns into a cycling bashing thread, note no arrests were made so we don't know who is at fault. Islington police seized a McLaren MP4 valued at a £170,000 on Thursday, November 14 after it was involved in a collision with a cyclist. The cyclist, a 41-year-old man, was taken to a north London hospital with minor injuries. The vehicle was seized by police as the driver, a 63-year-old man, did not have the appropriate insurance. The incident happened just before midday in Old Srtreet at the junction with Mallow Street. There were no arrests. If the driver decides he doesn’t want his car back, it may be auctioned off. Earlier this year, a Lamborghini Aventador valued at £300,000 was confiscated in Newham, east London after police found the driver had insufficient insurance. The driver failed to come forward after police confiscated the car and it was sold for £218,000. The money was put into frontline policing.

  9. Hi.., look like already have sometimes ago about this topic. but let discuss again about this with honest, reality and frankly speaking 25 years old or younger afford buy 100k car real or not? my thinking is simple. 1. when you complete degree or master or phd is how old? 2. if you study oversea, can consider "i'm 25 years old or younger and i afford buy 100k car"? then where you get money for oversea study? scholar? 3. if you get good carrier, is that real from your skill, or have relative in that company that help your career. the point is: - if someone buy car 100k, please talk/ tell the truth, something like you have nice car should suit with your personality :) - if someone keep said "ohh look i afford 1k car" but because he/she work in family business, is that real afford? Anyway, it is just a friday afternoon discussion :)
  10. Why this hawker can't afford to maintain prices Letter from Edward Chan 02:05 PM Apr 26, 2011 I read with interest that the Retail Price Watch Group (RPWG) enlisted more than 120 hawker stalls to pledge to maintain their prices for six months. Mr Lee Yi Shyan, Chairman of the RPWG, Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Manpower and MP for East Coast GRC, was present to launch the initiative on March 20. The RPWG was "encouraged to see more businesses taking the initiative to help Singaporeans mitigate increases in prices." Despite the Ministry of Trade and Industry's efforts to maintain food prices at hawker centres, it is with regret and trepidation that I read about the high-handed stance that the National Environment Agency is taking toward hawkers. My retiree friend was notified by NEA that his stall at Old Airport Hawker Centre had been "assessed by professional valuers to be fair and reasonable" regarding his rental increase from S$1,110 to S$1,500 with effect from April 1, after taking into account "stall size, location and the prevailing economic conditions". This letter came in response to his appeal through Mr Lim Biow Chuan, MP for Marine Parade GRC. It leaves me saddened that agencies are taking initiatives counter to each other's. On the one hand, MTI wants to keep inflation low and prices stable. On the other hand, NEA is bent on keeping in line with "prevailing economic conditions". My friend is keen to maintain his prices but with a 36 per cent increase in rental, he will find it difficult not to pass this price increase to his customers. NEA's letter also states: "If you have difficulty maintaining your stall rent, you may consider assigning the stall to an eligible party or surrendering it to NEA." This is his livelihood as a retiree. So it's a take it or leave it approach? Such compassion, coming from the civil service. I can understand if this were a private landlord. Todayonline
  11. Just out of curiosity, If a person can afford a 125k car(comfortablely), how much would his salary range be? taking these factor into consideration, 1) late twenties (>27) 2) didnt use parents money to pay for Downpay etc 3) married and have a Mortgage loan (HDB or Condo) 4) car repayment is by self ( not shared by wife, husband etc) 5) started working only after 25yrs (eg. graduate w/NS) reason, seen many young ppl buying car these range, wonder how they do it....

  14. Most women know that you have to spend a little bit of money to get a decent hairdryer. If you skimp, you'll more than likely end up with an under-powered hairdryer that couldn't dry a beard. You can usually bag yourself a decent dryer for about $50, but if you've got money to burn, you might want to consider this hairdryer with a Ferrari engine. Yes, you read right. The deep, Ferrari-red of this appliance is not the only connection it has to the famous car maker. Ferrari actually designed the AC V12 engine inside the BabyLiss Volare V1, too. The 2200-watt engine is capable of lasting up to 2,000 hours (compared to the 500-700 hours of a normal hairdryer) and was developed in collaboration with the Ferrari Challenge Team. BabyLiss has two versions of the Volare, the V1 and the V2. The V1 is a regular-sized blowdryer while the V2 is a more compact model, suited to traveling. Only available for professionals, these babies retail at about $400 a pop and represent the first time a Ferrari engine has ever been used in a luxury blowdryer. Where to buy one
  15. Sianz....... My car's COE is going to expire in Aug 2012. Looking at the rate its rising I won't be able to afford to renew the COE when it expires..... I am not some rich guy, just a poor peasant who trying to fulfill a dream that started almost 20yrs ago..... :( Now, I am thinking how I can keep my celica when the COE expires.... Options: 1. Scrap car and the end.... 2. Take loan for COE.... Option 3: Fight it out with anyone who try to tow my car away to scrap it. 16. I really love this gov day by day. Their CPF restoration implementation is really spot on to win my heart in voting and having 101% confidence in this gov! When property is expensive, people maxed out the CPF to repayment. Some still need to top up. Many people complain and this gov does listen to our issues! If there is higher CPF contributions = more salary = more can buy bigger and more expensive properties using CPF. YEAH!
  17. Was going thru sgforum sometime earlier...came across this post where a guy claimed that one needs to earn 20K and above to drive a BMW 3 series!! Absurb man!! Where got so expensive!! They were discussing how much the salary should be before considering car ownership....
  18. BMW's M division has developed a new speed bicycle for more serious cycling enthusiasts. The BMW M Bike will be produced in a limited edition, and will be sold both online and through certain BMW dealerships. The 12.9 kg (28.4 lb) bike will be sold in three different frame heights. It is construced out of aluminum, and features the Match front suspension fork from Manitou. The springs used in the suspension have an 80-millimeter deflection. Engineers installed a fi'zi:k leather saddle with a red insert. Other features include disc brakes, and a Shimano SLX component group/gear system with a high gear ratio to optimize speed. The BMW M Bike will be available from June.
  19. If Medisave is going to be used for BIG BILLS only the problem (1) medisave is used for medical expenses and should not be abuse but if one cannot decide on how to use THEIR OWN MONEY ????? (2) chicken and egg problem, if I cannot afford cash (out of pocket) to do screening to detect eg cancer early, what is use of using MEDISAVE when the disease is in their advance stage when then the BIG BILLS come (3) the median salary of Singaporean is $2K + (every can figure out if they can yearly put out that kind of sum just for check) strange that many things (include our own hard earn money, even when we decide for our own good) are beyond our control this is not a political issue but a policy issue that does not include a safety net for the less able, who the only money that can be use for check-up is from their MEdisave account if MOD thinks this is too political please delete it http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1032782/1/.html "If the people think they can do a better job than Khaw Boon Wan, then so be it. I think that is the beauty of democracy - one man one vote." Mr Khaw also commented on a suggestion to allow Medisave fund to be used for mammograms. Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Lim Hwee Hua suggested this at a breast screening event on Saturday. But Mr Khaw disagreed with the suggestion. He said: "My general rule of thumb is this - anything less than $100 - $20, $30 - please pay out of your own pocket. I think Medisave should be reserved for big bills. So let's don't abuse Medisave. This is not to say I'm against (using) Medisave for screening, because some screenings can be very expensive." Mammograms, if subsidised, cost between $25 and $50.
  20. If you're thinking of buying a car but your combined family income is below $7,650, think again. According to a local website salary.sg run by a finance manager, $7,650 is the minimum income needed to afford a car. Most families are not able to afford cars because the cost of car ownership does not only include the price but also the miscellaneous fees such as road taxes, car insurance and servicing, said the website. A small saloon will cost around $50,000. The more aspirational may go for a family MPV, which can go up to $80,000 or more. According to the Singapore Department of Statistics, 38 per cent of the households here own a car. The top 38 per cent highest-earning households also make more than $7,650 a month. Salary.sg said that the 38 per cent of the households which own a car may not be the same 38 per cent that form the highest-earning households in Singapore. But it went on to explain that this group of highest-earning households are most capable of owning a car and therefore, it stands to reason that $7,650 is a reasonable guideline for car ownership. Mr Wu, the person behind the site, told Chinese daily Shin Min that a family should retain 50 per cent of their income as miscellaneous expenses, education fees etc. The other 30 per cent would be taken up by a housing loan. Then, car expenses should not total to more than 20 per cent, he said. BAR TOO HIGH? But is the bar of $7,650 too high? The director of a parallel importer company apparently thinks so. He told Shin Min that $7,650 should be the minimum combined income to buy a Continental car like Mercedes-Benz or BMW. But with regards to cheaper cars, monthly expenses should not total more than $1,000. "If the person has a minimum income of $2,000, he can consider buying a car," said the director. And if the cheaper alternative is still too expensive, then the person should consider a second-hand car, added the director.

Is the income floor of $7,650 for car ownership too high and unrealistic? Send us your opinions at [email protected] $2k min income can consider buying a car...i think this director short of saying the following 1) if he/she dun need to support parent, and/or siblings 2) if he/she is single 3) if he/she has other incomes that are not taxable or cannot be reported What a good way to brainwash ppl with 2k income to come forward and buy car, and then commit themselves with more liabilites and debts
