Wow!! I just checked a few websites (honda, toyota, kia) on their models, almost none are offering manual transmission?!? I understand that most people will go for the auto, but definitely there'll be some go for manual one. I mean how difficult it is to have an option for manual? Just blardy import the car in as like an auto?? Are there more paperwork?? Mechanic dunno how to service a manual ride?? The factory no longer producing manual transmission?? It's not like they stock up manual vehicles in their showroom and not able to sell (they order then ship in usually). So why they don't even offer it anymore still buffles me. If BMW, Audi, VW, Merc were to offer manual transmission, i'm pretty sure there will be orders for them too. Anyone wanna shed some light?? -
I have always had high regards for Vincent, he comes across as putting customers first. I believe alot of people would attest to his repo with the customers on this forum. However after charging me for "using your own parts", he bear grudges for over a year and told me off last week saying that "I CANNOT BRING MY OWN" spares parts anymore. Oh well, up for awareness. Looking for other reliable workshops now for Merc.

Any fellow drivers get to know that UOB cards will not be eligible for smart$ (further discount) from July 13. In fact it is going to be replaced by Citibank. Which means Citibank will be covering ESSO & Shell. -
Hello, not sure if it is just me or everyone felt the same but i realised that nowadays since 2-3months back our train service is getting worse. Morning have to wait for 2-3 trains before manage to squeeze in and then in the evening another rounod of wait for 4-5 trains squeeze like sardines again. Working life in SG sucks without a car!

But some also felt that the drivers' behaviour was unreasonable, and called for more to be done to prepare Chinese workers before they go overseas. "For the purpose of work, understand the laws of the country and the related rules, I think that's normal, and necessary." "Before they leave the country, human resource companies should do some training in these areas in China before sending the workers out." Recruiters in China said the majority of Chinese blue-collar workers in Singapore come from Jiangsu, Shandong and Liaoning where there's an abundance of manpower. One agency in Jiangsu said it conducts a preparatory course for Chinese workers moving to Singapore for work. Mr Lin Hai, General Manager of Jiangsu Huaian YunHai International Labour, said: "When they apply for work, I'll introduce Singapore's situation to them, let them understand that the 'Garden City' name is just the general environment. But work-wise, Singapore's efficiency is very high, you can't bring China's standards over, which means you have to do everything quickly." But Mr Lin, whose agency was set up in 2006, said it has become increasingly difficult to recruit Chinese workers for Singapore companies. He said salaries in Singapore are now almost on par with what workers would get if they stay in China. And the latest bus driver incident has deterred some considering Singapore as a work destination. Mr Lin said: "For example, in construction. They can get about 7,000-8,000 RMB each, a contractor can get 10,000 and more. In Singapore, a worker is paid 8,000-9,000 RMB. The "State of the Tropics" study said Singaporeans can expect to live up to 80.6 years as life expectancy here has increased by 20.4 years between 1950 and 2010. This means that the average Singaporean lives about 16 years longer than their counterparts in other tropical countries. This is despite the fact that life expectancy in the tropics has increased by 22.8 years to 64.4 between 1950 and 2010. Women in Singapore can still expect to live longer than men here as the average life expectancy between 2005 and 2010 for females is 82.7, while for males, it is 78.5. Singapore has also seen significant improvements in infant mortality rates, with only two deaths per 1,000 live births from 2005 to 2010, down from 61 deaths per 1,000 live births between 1950 and 1955. The "State of the Tropics" study, run by 13 institutions across 12 countries, is part of a world-wide initiative to define the challenges facing people living in the tropics. Anyone know why conti car like Renault, BMW, Merc etc. can have longer servicing interval like 15k or 20k whereas Jap/Korean cars only 10k? Is it bcos the engine block is of better quality?

Many of us believe that using synthetic engine allow us to extend oil change interval. The most common is " mineral oil last a 5,000km and synthetic oil last 10,000km" how true is this? Or actually, svc interval is the same?

I am no longer proud to be a Singaporean for many reasons. Some being 1) I have to worry about people beating me up for nothing and the Police cannot do anything, both day and night. 2) I know food courts and hawkers stalls are mostly manned by foreigners, and I no longer go there to eat anymore 3) I know there is always CPF and medisave to suck my money even when i am old 4) My family and relatives are living close to me and it promotes family ties becasue we have to chip in to buy one HDB flat 5) Our govt is not corrupt because they are paid the highestr in this world 6) NS allows us to "grow up" and be more mature and took away 2.5 years of my productive life while some are fortunate to defer 12 years 7) Education up to JC is almost light busy bees and blue arse flies inaide a pressure pot 8) There are so many eateries, shopping centres even late at night - especially at Geylang and Joo Chiat 9) Public transport is so very affordable taht we have to squeeze like sardines.

This was under the old scheme, flats bought direct fm HDB can sell after 10 years. But sales were slow and to speed up collecting levy, they cut down to 5 years. ST Forum May 16, 2011 Offer discounted flats with longer resale ban periods I REFER to the letter by Mr Goh Ah King last Friday ("Offer cheaper flats with shorter leases"). Another possibility is for HDB to offer flats with a longer resale prohibition period, such as 10 or 12 years, and price such flats at a bigger discount than normal flats. This would benefit families who intend to live there for a longer term and encourage others to take a similarly longer view of their HDB flat. I believe this is worth exploring together with the shorter lease option. Alvin Tan
