  1. Mr Goh does not seem to understand it is always has been about dollars and cents on this 3/4 tank rule. Although I am all for srapping this %^&*$!!!, the authorities will never agree to it because this means losing rich source of revenue from petrol duties. From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/...ory_816291.html Time for three-quarter tank rule to go Published on Jun 29, 2012 DRIVERS of Singapore- registered vehicles have not been allowed to purchase the RON95 grade of petrol in Malaysia since August 2010. This petrol grade, which is subsidised by the Malaysian government, costs RM1.90 (76 Singapore cents) per litre currently, and is available only to Malaysia-registered vehicles. Singapore-registered vehicles can be filled only with RON97 petrol, which is no longer subsidised by the Malaysian government, and its price is subject to market forces. Currently, this grade of petrol costs RM2.90 per litre. Thus, the savings from filling our vehicles with petrol in Malaysia is no longer as attractive as it used to be. Also, the new Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex has not helped to resolve the traffic jams associated with the old facility. The main problem lies with the narrow two-lane road leading to the new CIQ facility from Singapore, which is used by both buses and cars. The congestion affects vehicles leaving as well as entering Singapore. This infrastructural constraint is unlikely to be resolved any time soon, and the congestion could deter Singaporeans from going regularly to Malaysia to purchase petrol. Given the above-mentioned developments, the three-quarter fuel tank rule would appear to be redundant and should be scrapped. Goh Kian Huat

  3. AMS/ALPHA Performance breaks the 1/4 record for fastest GT-R in the world with the Alpha Omega. Producing well over 2000bhp, the 4.0-litre big bore engine has its cylinder head CNC ported and runs its own custom turbo kit. Fully street legal according to the team, it does the quarter mile in 7.7 seconds with the help of a set of AMS 15-inch slicks. It crosses the line at a staggering 299km/h. Sadly more attempts to improve the timing failed even though the car had the potential to output more power as the weather proved too hot. Watch the video below to see the GT-R in action. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsnAbNtny7M&list=UUgF0OC_3MlW2KEyhhAgIQjAMeanwhile, here are some stats of the Alpha Omega GT-R: 0-96km/h in 1.53 seconds, 0-160km/h in 2.79 seconds, 160-241km/h in 2.15 seconds and 0-300km/h in 7.56 seconds.
  4. is this true? the manual says if go lower, there is small chance of engine faults and other problems. is this a general guideline? fuel tank cannot be too empty?
  5. Commercial vehicles & m/cycles are going up ... From CNA: Fewer COEs next quarter, but more for cars There will be 3,777 Certificates of Entitlement for bidding each month, down from the previous quarter's 4,019, LTA said. SINGAPORE: The Certificate of Entitlement (COE) quota for the period August to October this year will be 11,331, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced on Wednesday (July 16). This means the monthly quota of COEs will be 3,777 for the period, down from 4,019 in the previous quarter. However, the number of COEs available for cars has increased due to a drop in the monthly quota of COEs for commercial vehicles and motorcycles. The monthly quota for Category A cars (up to 1,600cc and 130bp) has risen to 1,143 from 1,011 in the previous quarter, while the quota for Category B cars (above 1,600cc or 130bhp) is now 1,010, up from 966 in the previous quarter. For the open category, which can be used for any vehicle type but ends up mainly for bigger cars, the monthly COE supply will be 478, down from the previous quarter’s 586. Goods vehicles and buses will have a monthly supply of 515, down from 770, and motorcycles will have 631, down from 686. The next quota announcement for the bidding period of November 2014 to January 2015 will be made in October 2014, the LTA said. - CNA/kk
  6. But wtf, monopoly still can suffer loss..LOL Does it affect u? http://sbr.com.sg/transport-logistics/news...loss-in-history 30% dividend cut more than possible. According to Maybank Kim Eng, SMRT has become a "fallen dividend angel" because of this historic earnings tumble, but remarked that it could use this short-term weakness as a bargaining tool to argue for higher fares through the undergoing government review. Here's more from Maybank Kim Eng: Loss guidance follows wage hike

  8. Honda has officially joined the ranks of automakers like Kia and Ford by posting solid profits during the fourth quarter of the company's fiscal year. The Japanese automaker managed to see profits rise by 28 percent compared to the same period last year, thanks largely to increased hybrid sales. The announcement marks the fourth-straight quarter of profits for the company after seeing a rare operating loss at the end of March, 2009. Sales in Japan have been bolstered by sales of the incredibly popular CR-Z Hybrid. Earlier this month, Honda announced that it had received over 7,000 orders for the two-door hatchback, which accounted for over half of the models the company had set aside for sale in its home market. Honda also attributed its quick recovery to the fact that its lineup is comprised mostly of fuel-efficient vehicles
  9. This whole recession thing has been good to Kia. Buyers have skidded away from high-riding luxury barges faster than cockroaches from a kitchen light and right into the loving arms of the Korean automaker's well-equipped, smartly priced, and newly competent products. As a result, the company has reportedly seen its net profits quadruple in the first three months of this year. Kia managed to rake in a total of $358 million dollars from January to March, compared to $88.2 million during the same period in 2009. Much of the boost came from the fact that the company's global sales have exploded this year thanks in part to the new Sorento, Forte and Forte Koup. Kia moved 474,635 vehicles during the first-quarter of 2010

  11. SINGAPORE: The electricity tariff is coming down for the second straight quarter. For the period of April 1 to June 30, it will be reduced by 21.37 per cent or 4.9 cents to 18.03 cents per kWh. This is the lowest rate in four years since April 2005. The tariff is currently at 22.93 cents per kWh for January to March 2009. SP Services said the reduction is largely due to lower fuel oil prices. The electricity tariff is reviewed quarterly and adjusted in line with the changes in the cost of electricity. - CNA/so

  14. Currently looking to get a car in this quarter before the COE goes higher when the supply is cut. Currently the PI cars seems more interesting with the 2 big bros, BM and KH selling their 1.6L cars for around $70K. Any nice recommendation on the 1.3-1.6L cars that will be suitable for a first time owner. We should be talking under $70K since the AD cars are around that price. Will look forward to all you inputs.
