  1. Hi mods like @RadX, @Carbon82, @kobayashiGT and the rest, I was thinking that for some threads, we argue base on our opinions and what we learned in school. I realise a lot of the arguments stem based on experience rather than what the school actually teaches as as the years go by, even the teaching might change. So I am thinking, can we pin the latest version of BTT, FTT and RTA on certain threads so that if we want to argue or give our two cents, we have a common reference point? It might also be helpful for people reading the forum because they might not know where to look for it, phone no memory etc etc. My two cents.
  2. Dear Forumers Too many analysis on the COE trend with all kind of theory, assumptions and predictions. I would think the best is still for Forumers who patronized the car showroom to share and upload 1st hand information probably with photos, crowd condition, sale condition etc of each AD in systematic way. With the real field situation, it will be more useful for everyone to know how likely hood the demand of COE in coming months. Any suggestions?
  3. Helping my partner to ask basic and final theory . Just self study will do right?
  4. as topic... asking for a fren :) thanks a lot .. hope to get a direct answer immediately.. tot search like no result V
  5. When news of a corruption probe involving SCDF and CNB chief broke, news of YSL tiko pek also came out. When SMRT COI starts, underaged sex scandal is also reported ...... hmmmm
  6. My son wants to take class 3 and i insisted that he takes a PI. Can any of u guys who had taken the private route help as i seem not to be able to find much info for private candidates from Basic Theory to the driving test itself. 1. How do i go about booking a BT test as a private candidate. 2. Is it a must to enrol in one of the driving school 3. What are the fees to be paid as a private candidiate Thanks in advance.
  7. Lots of theories abound. Is there two distinct camps within PAP? Why was George Yeo not moved to a safer GRC? Is late MM wife the real brain behind the party? If MM goes, is it a real possibility the PAP will split in two? Just for discussion sake..........

    GST theory

the rich spend more. the poor spend lesser. since the rich spend more, they pay more in gst than the poor. then the govt will use $$ collected from gst to help the poor. that's the theory the govt gave. i dun quite agree nor understand it well. a simple solution is to reduce the gst to 5%. then we do not need to use gst $$ to help the poor. right? or am i missing something?
  9. Ok, after some reading etc, I have come up with a very plausible theory on why 2T oil actually works. As your piston moves on the cylinder walls, the oil scrapper rings removes most of the oil already. This leaves very little oil the walls. As the air/fuel mixture enters the combustion chamber, some of the 2T oil will definitely adhere to the cylinder walls, thus this 2T oil provides lubrication and when the piston moves up to compress the air, there is less friction and hence lesser energy needed and better mileage. Btw, I have also thought about why additional additives are needed for engines, esp. old engines. Think about the instance the fuel ignites and the piston moves down. Whatever oil thats left on the cylinder wall gets burnt as well. This means no oil on the walls. When the piston moves up again, its very likely that the 1st and even 2nd compression ring will make contact with the cylinder walls w/o any oil lubrication. Under such circumstance, only those extreme pressure lubricants like Zinc, Moly etc (whatever thats coated on the walls) will provide the protection necessary. Its impossible for our engine oil to provide 100% protection for the engine (thats why the engine parts does get worn out over time and why there is always metal particles in used oil).
  10. Heard it from someone. Is it possible?
  11. Hi guys do you know where can get Basic Theory book? My wife want to take the test but I dun know where can get the book? Or any kind soul have a book to spare? Thanks
  12. Guy, understand MT generally have better FC than AT. But AT oso have the traditional 4 gear and the new CVT. So in those 3 types of transmission which have the BEST FC and which one LOUSIEST. And wats the science behind MT having better FC.
  13. Is there some kind of conspiracy theory behind the recent COE crash to $5200? Of course we can all say it's all linked to $$$ but it just doesn't make sense to me. For that round of bid, there were 2823 bids for 2670 COEs. That means, there were 153 bidders who were not willing to bid more than $5200. (a bit silly considering the average range has been 10-12K over the past year). And what got me thinking was why some dealers didn't put in bids for their customers, even though COE was so freaking low. i.e, they could have secured COEs at $5201, $5300 or $5XXX had they placed the bid in. Why wait? Were they hoping that COE would even DROP FURTHER? highly unlikely based on historical trends. i.e COE normally rebounded right after a drop.. as proven this time round too. Looking at historic figures, there were months were fewer or similar amount of bids were placed, but COE remained at 10-12K.. i.e Feb round 1 - 3005 bids, 11.8K. Oct 2006 round 2 - 2761 bids, 12k. Was it a bid to raise a car buying frenzy? probably. But doesn't make sense too since if the COE drops, they have to lower car prices too. But then they have to secure future COEs at higher rates using lowered car prices. Poor business decision IMO. And by the way, for the 153 bidders who failed to get their COEs during the $5200 crash, they must be kicking themselves because it's almost impossible for COE to drop below that level in the near future. that means they'll have to fork out more in future rounds to secure COEs for their customers. Another poor business decision again IMO. So what's the deal?
  14. Hi all, If you can help me here, tried finding a the above-mentioned booklet to search for the information of vehicle seperation when a car is stopped. Will appreciate if you can tell me where to buy or a URL will be great. Thanks in advance.
  15. Twin tube vs MonoTube (from Bilstein website http://www.bilstein.com/products/basics.html) Twin Tube This principle of reducing the vibration through friction is still valid today. Today's automobile must meet stringent requirements than its predecessors, the shock absorber has become an extremely important component in motor vehicles. The twin tube shock absorber consists of two tubes. The inner tube is the pressure tube where the energy conversion occurs (kinetic energy converted through friction into thermal energy). The outer tube, sometimes called the compensation chamber, contains the reserve chamber which fulfills an important role. Oil is displaced within the inner tube by movement of the piston rod. The displaced oil enters the reserve chamber through the back pressure valve. With the piston rod moving upwards, the oil is again sucked into the working chamber. Monotube (Gas) Such a compensation chamber is necessary on the Monotube type of shock absorber. The technology applied here has a number of considerable advantages. The expression "Gas Pressure" Shock Absorber often leads to the assumption that this shock absorber only contains gas. However the actual damping occurs within a column of oil. The dividing piston separates the oil chamber from the gas chamber. The oil chamber contains a special hydraulic oil, and the gas chamber contains nitrogen, at a pressure of approx. 25 bar (approx. 350 psi) Gas chamber function: enables the dividing piston to move further towards the gas chamber, thus reducing its size. When the piston rod is returned, the oil chamber becomes larger and the compressed gas cushion presses the dividing piston back into its start position. The high pressure in the gas chamber is transmitted by the dividing piston onto the column of oil and prevents the oil from foaming. Therefore optimum damping performance is achieved under all operating conditions.
