Inverter really save energy or just a marketing gimmick with no really saving or take ages to breakeven? 2. May be next one is an inverter rice cooker, water kettle and what have you? Regards,
  4. BY JEFF LEESON Hell hath very literal fury for a husband scorned. A German man seems to be following his divorce agreement to the letter by using power tools to give his ex-wife half of everything he owns. The man posted a video of him cutting chairs, beds and phones in half for his ex with the translated description "Thank you for 12 'beautiful' years, Laura! You've really earned half." He has reportedly sent half of the pieces to his ex and is selling his halves on eBay. As of the time of this post, his car is selling for a little more than $50. Thankfully, it seems like their house is still in one piece.

  6. everything in Singapore needs money sometimes pai sai or pee pee also kena empty pocket for coins There are limits to what we can do, says Case chief 13 Jan 2012 Straits Times AS A consumer movement, the Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) provides help to consumers within the limits of our resources as a non-governmental organisation ('Fitness club's Catch-22 policy for under-21 applicants' by Ms Josephine Lau; Forum Online, Jan 5). Let me explain what we do, and why we do it. We run a hotline and provide counter services to those who need our advice on consumer-related matters. These services are free. Last year, we attended to 18,178 such queries. Some consumers want us to resolve their disputes with businesses. We are a membership-based body, hence the consumers need to join us to give us the legal basis to represent them. When we take on a case, we will set aside time and resources to understand the dispute, write to the business, and try to negotiate a settlement. The membership fee covers part of the costs. And while we have a strong track record of successful claims of more than $3.5 million for the past few years, we cannot guarantee favourable settlements in all instances. It is not possible for us to do so. There are also those who want us to write to the businesses, but they do not need our help to see through their cases. These include cases under the Fair Trading Act where consumers can make their own claims. For these, we will, as a one-time effort, interview the consumer to understand the nature of the dispute and write to the business stating the grounds of the consumer's claim. For this service, we charge an administrative fee of $10 to cover our costs. We provided help to 2,666 such consumers last year. Yeo Guat Kwang President Case
  7. Comparing to HK & Taiwan variety shows, Drama etc....Singapore considered the least interesting!!! Look at some Taiwanese variety, they are so fun to watch, their joke sometimes cross the line, but don't seem anything will happened to them. Not like Singapore, when a celebrity wear a little lesser, they will soon be on the paper. Taiwan can even make fun of their president and audience all know is just a joke, but in Singapore, Who dare?? Like the recent programme, Lin Ming Lun recommending food series . A chef slice the fish and released the blood in a bucket to reduce the "fishy" smell, the second day, Headline.......cruel, inhuman etc. All sorts of Nosey Sinkies complaint. Why can't Singaporean be broad minded a little!!!????? Have your say.............

  10. OP want to have a first world parliment... but one minister want them to show him what is a first world parliment look like first....... If during the 60s, LKY had this kind of minister, dont think we can get to where we are now... in the 60s, where can u find a country like ours existing?? For every thing to work, must first have a sample to see... nb... no wonder the FIRST YOG over-run budget like no tml... i had no issue with OP wanting a first world parliment... even if it did not exist in this world... we still can formulate them in the mind and then put it into reality.... at least this ability is what leaders should have... I really worry that we had minister who dont dream a better tml and then work towards it...only copying... i think copying.. China is 100 times better than us... like that how to compete in the world? vote wisely

  13. Brilliant! So far the frankest and most direct admission from a cabinet minister: http://www.todayonline.com/Singapore/EDC10...ays-Mah-Bow-Tan Shorter waiting time and larger supply of flats, says Mah Bow Tan by Ong Dai Lin 05:55 AM Aug 31, 2010 SINGAPORE - Three years - already a higher standard than in other cities - was the benchmark to beat. Yesterday, National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan made a new commitment: First-time home buyers will get the keys to their flats in two-and-a-half years. To get this done for projects launched from the middle of next year onwards, the Housing and Development Board (HDB) will streamline internal processes, for instance, by awarding the tender sooner and speeding up the Build-to-Order (BTO) selection exercises, Mr Mah said. The shorter waiting period and a record number of units next year for executive condominiums and the Design, Build and Sell Scheme, in addition to BTO flats, were among the key announcements on housing policies set out by Mr Mah. These moves, analysts said, would have the widest bearing on the current supply-and-demand imbalance in public housing that Mr Mah had previously described. HDB resale flat prices could fall from their current record high, they said. Asked if the new housing measures were a response to ground sentiment that housing will be a hot topic in an upcoming election, Mr Mah said: "If you ask me whether it has got anything to do with the elections, the answer is yes. Everything has got to do with the elections." The waiting period is being shortened even though the selection exercise for BTOs is a "very time consuming process". Mr Mah explained that the HDB would check on the eligibility of every applicant. Demand will also be met through 4,000 DBSS flats and 4,000 ECs, to be located across the island, including in Tampines, Yishun and Jurong West. This is on top of the 22,000 BTO flats HDB will offer next year and the 16,000 BTO flats this year. Calling the numbers substantial, Mr Mah gave this analogy: "In two years, we're going to build, if the demand is there, a new Toa Payoh." Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had flagged off the changes at the National Day Rally on Sunday, when he said the income ceiling for DBSS flats would be increased to $10,000 from $8,000 for the "sandwiched" group. Analysts told MediaCorp the upgrading dreams of homeowners would be restored to some extent. They noted that a consequence of a rising price market would be the dampening of Singaporeans' "upgrading aspirations", as an analyst put it. Some prospective home buyers welcomed the moves but suggested the HDB go further. Freelance trailer producer Shen Wenyuan, 27, said: "The measures are good, but I hope the Government can release the sites for balloting periodically, like the Sale of Balance Flats exercise, so that people can choose their flats earlier instead of waiting to ballot each month." Mr Chris Koh, director of property firm Dennis Wee Group, said that despite the increased flat supply, there are groups of people, such as the growing number of singles, who are ineligible for new flats and have to buy in the resale market. Ms Lee Bee Wah, the deputy chairperson of the Government Parliamentary Committee (National Development), welcomed the measures. She said she had about six complaints every week for the past two months at her Meet-the-People sessions about the difficulty of getting a new flat. She said she never had such numbers before. When asked whether the completion time can be further reduced, Ms Lee said: "We do it step by step and need to monitor the quality of the flats. We don't want to speed up the construction and deal with quality issues downstream."
  14. Why some girls think their guys should be paying for their everything? Like as if the guys owe them? Or it is their divine rights? Maybe they are not looking for bf but more like looking for a Santa Claus!
  15. Knew a girl for months. became a couple. She made me pay for almost everything when we go out. She is very careful with her own money but everytime we go out spending she expect me to pay even pay for her maid and family. Hawker centres, cafes & restaurants. At hawker centres, i will 1st queue & order food for her then only i queue and order food for myself. Including food and drinks i must have queued at least 3 times. And u know each queue can be long esp. during meal times. Once when i didnt order her food but she has to go queue & order her own, she wasnt happy. maybe becos she ended up having to pay her own food tat time. another time, i dropped her off to order food in a restuarant so that i can go find parking space. When i came into restuarant she told me she havent pay for the food. But at this restaurant cashier counter, u will be made to pay right away upon food ordering. I was thinking maybe she told the cashier she didnt have money on her. So she waited for me to come and pay. Even her maid food she asked me to pay. Even when her parents want papers, she got me to buy. Is this normal? Or is it their divine right for girls to expect their guys to pay for everything when they are out? Or am i being too calculative?? Being too easy going (generous etc) and being a carrot seem no difference. No-one like to be the latter. I thought it is more normal for both to pay ie. sometimes guys pay and sometimes gals pay too. though guys pay more times. I am flabbergasted by this all.

  20. Just came back from BM, Sin Ming after sending my MPV there for 20,000km servicing package. Looking at the servicing package A & B. For 20,000km, it was adviced to take the package B. The cost for this package is $393/- for syn oil. (Prices have gone up since my last package A servicing enquiry for my next servicing on package B) A list of items (more than 100) were listed in package B and I was wondering, how to know if they (AD workshop) ensure their customers that all those items listed will be checked & serviced by their mechanics. The place is packs with cars coming for servicing (even brand new cars SGY) and with a handful of mechanics. As the prices for servicing had gone up, will they cover all items as listed? My last servicing there, their service chits only shows tick, tick, tick in the box but did they really did it? btw, charge $15/- for balancing as I request for rotation of wheels. So total bill is expected $408/- & collection at 3.00pm.

  22. Japanese Car I bought the very first Honda Accord when it was first launch and I remembered (if memory does not failed me)the speedometer has a maximum speed of 200+km/h and recently at Suntec City, out of curiosity I took a look at a Lexus LS430 parked next door and saw that the maximum speed was only 180km/h max on the speedometer. Is my eyes playing tricks or something I don't understand a 4000cc car versus a 1600cc car yet there is such a discrepancy in their maximum speed I have never tried going for the maximum speed in my Honda any intelligent explanation.
