  1. https://vulcanpost.com/843379/team-of-ai-bots-develops-software-in-7-minutes-instead-of-4-weeks/ Back in July, a team of researchers proved that ChatGPT is able to design a simple, producible microchip from scratch in under 100 minutes, following human instructions provided in plain English. Last month, another group — working at universities in China and the US — decided to take a step further and cut the humans out of the creative process almost completely. Instead of relying on a single chatbot providing answers to questions asked by a human, they created a team of ChatGPT 3.5-powered bots, each assuming a different role in a software agency: CEO, CTO, CPO, programmer, code reviewer, code tester, and graphics designer. Each one was briefed about its role and provided details about their behaviour and requirements for communication with other participants, e.g. “designated task and roles, communication protocols, termination criteria, and constraints.” Other than that, however, ChatDev’s — as the company was named — artificial intelligence (AI) team would have to come up with its own solutions, decide which languages to use, design the interface, test the output, and provide corrections if needed. Once ready, the researchers then fed their virtual team with specific software development tasks and measured how it would perform both on accuracy and time required to complete each of them. The dream CEO The bots were to follow an established waterfall development model, with tasks broken up between designing, coding, testing, and documenting of work done, with each of them assigned their roles throughout the process. What I found particularly interesting is the exclusion of CEO from the technical aspects of the process. His role is to provide the initial input and return for the summary, while leaving techies and designers to do their jobs in peace — quite unlike in the real world! I think many people would welcome our new overlords, who are instructed not to interfere with the job until it’s really time for them to. Just think how many conflicts could be avoided! Once the entire team was ready to go, the researchers then fed their virtual team with specific software development tasks and measured how it would perform both on accuracy and time required to complete each of them. Here’s an example of fully artificial conversation between all of the “members”: Later, followed by i.a. this exchange between the CTO and the programmer: These conversations continued at each stage before its completion and information being passed for interface design, testing, and documentation (like creating a user manual). Time is money After running 70 different tasks through this virtual AI software dev company, over 86 per cent of the produced code was executed flawlessly. The remaining about 14 per cent faced hiccups due to broken external dependencies and limitations of ChatGPT’s API — so, it was not a flaw of the methodology itself. The longest time it took to complete a single task was measured at 1030 seconds, so a little over 17 minutes — with an average of just six minutes and 49 seconds across all tasks. This, perhaps, is not all that telling yet. After all, there are many tasks, big and small, in software development, so the researchers put their findings in context: “On average, the development of small-sized software and interfaces using CHATDEV took 409.84 seconds, less than seven minutes. In comparison, traditional custom software development cycles, even within agile software development methods, typically require two to four weeks, or even several months per cycle.” At the very least, then, this approach could shave off weeks of typical development time — and we are only at the very beginning of the revolution, with still not very sophisticated AI bots (and this wasn’t even the latest version of ChatGPT). And if time wasn’t enough of a saving, the basic costs of running each cycle with AI is just… $1. A dollar. Even if we factor in the necessary setup and input information provided by humans, this approach still provides an opportunity for massive savings. Goodbye programmers? Perhaps soon, but not yet. Even the authors of the paper admit that even though the output produced by the bots was most often functional, it wasn’t always exactly what was expected (though it happens to humans too — just think of all the times you did exactly what the client asked and they were still furious). They also recognised that AI itself may exhibit certain biases, and different settings it was deployed with were able to dramatically change output, in extreme cases rendering it unusable. In other words, setting the bots up correctly is a prerequisite to success. At least today. So, for the time being, I think we’re going to see a rapid rise in human-AI cooperation rather than outright replacement. However, it’s also difficult to escape the impression that through it we will be raising our successors and, in not so distant future, humans will be limited to only setting goals for AI to accomplish, while mastering programming languages will be akin to learning Latin.

  3. Ah Meng, icon of Singapore Zoo, dies of old age By Hasnita A Majid, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 08 February 2008 1828 hrs Photos 1 of 1 SINGAPORE: Ah Meng, the Sumatran Orang Utan that was considered an icon at the Singapore Zoo, died on Friday. She was 48 years old and had likely died of old age. In 1971, Ah Meng was confiscated from a family which had illegally kept her as a pet. She then found her home at the Singapore Zoo. Ah Meng was the first to host the zoo's famous 'Breakfast With An Orang Utan' programme. She soon became a celebrity, both locally and internationally. She had been featured in over 30 travel films and 'interviewed' by more than 300 writers. In 1992, Ah Meng received a special award from the Singapore Tourism Board in recognition of her contribution towards tourism in Singapore. Ah Meng also contributed to the Singapore Zoo's captive breeding programme. She had five children and became a grandmother in 1990. The Singapore Zoo will hold a memorial service for Ah Meng on Sunday at 11am.

  8. I do not normally start It related thread, but Chrome have given me so much problems that I decide to dump it once & for all & go back to Internet Explorer, & never been happier. Chrome issues: -Constant crushes - Simple functions not working, e.g like the normal 'reply' in MCF (I can only use the fast reply), worst when you have to fill up some forms for credit cards or something. You just never know when it will fail. - Facebook act weird, & sometime even typing a simple comment is a challenge, as many times, part of the comment box are hidden. Sometimes, top bar (where you can select log out or view messages) are hidden as well. - Flash keep crushing ( I looked into this soultion, but the problem keep coming back) - Slow down, & taking too much resources Now back to Internet Explorer(ie), after manually paste my bookmarks, Internet work so much better. Anyone have the same experience? By the way, I am using IE 9 on Windows 7 home edition.

  12. Now that it is almost time for this car to head to the big carpark in the sky, (transmission broke, and no point fixing cos COE ending in august) i think it'll be nice to do a gallery on her journey ever since we bought the car back in 2005. When we first got the car, it was Glacierbleu. A little 1.6 engine but all mostly stock with a little dent on the lower lip. It was a clean motor with it's original Blaupunkt stereo still intact With this little E30, i made many many friends along the way... and had many good memories. The little 1.6 made many trips up and down malaysia as well. Managing to bypass roadblocks and greedy policeman along the way since it prob. looked too old to have anyone inside worth taking $$$ from. One of my first BMW-SG meetups. Also with this little E30, it began my foray into the crazy World of aftermarket BMW tuning. Bilstein shocks coupled with Eibach springs went in first Followed by Deep-Step-Dish wheels for that tuned retro-stance A deeper front lip and sideskirts were added in to complete the look A picture with some of the older BMWs, sadly quite a few of them have crossed over A "deutsche" badge was stuck onto the front for the heck of it And an Alpina wheel sourced from Ebay was shipped over When i had the time, i'd clean the engine after washing the car I had a pro-photog friend take a shot of the car too, this pic even went up on Speedhunters Malacca KL Soon after, a shunt on the car got me sending it for a respray into it's current look With this car, i made many journeys and with this car, i was able to make alot of friends, REGARDLESS of status, showing that the most important aspect of being a car person, is just pure enthusiasm and a genuine love for cars. And so, with a heavy heart, it's time to say goodbye. After 19 years, it's time to rest.
  13. News LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Canadian comic actor Leslie Nielsen, star of a string of madcap spoof movies including "Airplane!" and "The Naked Gun," died of complications from pneumonia in Florida on Sunday, a spokesman said. He was 84. Nielsen is probably best known for playing the bumbling cop Lieutenant Frank Drebin in the "Naked Gun" franchise, but enjoyed a movie and television career spanning more than 60 years. The spokesman said Nielsen died in a hospital near his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, surrounded by his wife, Barbaree, and friends at 5:34 p.m. EST. Born on February 11, 1926, in Regina, Saskatchewan, the son of a Canadian mounted policeman, Nielsen served stints as an aerial gunner in the air force and as a radio disc jockey before studying acting in Toronto and then in New York City. He got his first big break in 1950 with a "Studio One" television appearance, and came to Hollywood in 1954 to star in the film "The Vagabond King" for "Casablanca" director Michael Curtiz. For the first 30 years of his career, Nielsen worked steadily in TV shows such as "Peyton Place" and "The Virginian," and built a reputation for playing authority figures such as the captain of the ill-fated cruise ship in the 1972 feature "The Poseidon Adventure." But later generations got to know the silver-haired actor for his deadpan performances in comedies such as 1980's "Airplane!" and the "Naked Gun" trilogy. As Dr. Rumack in "Airplane!", Nielsen delivered inane non sequiturs with a straight face. "Can you fly this plane, and land it?," he asks a passenger. "Surely, you can't be serious," the passenger exclaims. "I am serious, and don't call me Shirley," Rumack replies. "The Naked Gun" franchise had its origins in the short-lived 1982 TV show "Police Squad!" After it was canceled, creators Jim Abrahams, Jerry Zucker and David Zucker -- who had previously worked with Nielsen on "Airplane!" -- turned it into a feature packed with slapstick action and double-entendres. Drebin, in a nod to Inspector Clouseau, delivered deadpan lines like "Nice beaver" as his girlfriend, played by Priscilla Presley, stood above him on a ladder clutching a stuffed animal. His character also beat up the Ayatollah Khomeini and scrubbed the birthmark from Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev's head. The cast was rounded out by George Kennedy as Drebin's partner, and O.J. Simpson as their hapless colleague. In the 1991 sequel, "Naked Gun 2-1/2: The Smell of Fear," the villain played by Robert Goulet, tells an unannounced Drebin he did not see his name on the guest list. "Nothing to be embarrassed about. I sometimes go by my maiden name," Drebin replies. The final film, 1994's "The Naked Gun 33-1/3: The Final Insult" saw Drebin try to avert a disaster during the Academy Awards and go undercover in a penitentiary. An inmate asks where his prison number is. "It's unlisted," Drebin says. That film marked Anna Nicole Smith's first big role. Nielsen also appeared in the 1996 spy spoof "Spy Hard" as Agent WD-40, and in 1998's "Wrongfully Accused," a parody of "The Fugitive." More recent acting roles included playing a buffoonish president in the 2003 Hollywood parody "Scary Movie 3" and its 2006 sequel. In the latter film's most memorable sequence, his character unwittingly addressed gagging diplomats at the United Nations while naked. But Nielsen also had a serious side. During the 1990s, he took to the stage in "Darrow", a one-man drama about legendary "attorney for the damned" Clarence Darrow. "I didn't want to go ahead and be pegged for doing only comedy, although comedy is burgeoning," he told Reuters in a 1996 interview. "I'd like to see how far I can stretch and keep on doing 'dumb and stupid' (comedy) and drama and if possible be accepted at both. There's a line with an audience you can't always cross over. Sometimes, they only want to see you being funny."
  14. Liverpool FC today confirmed that Rafael Benitez is to leave the club by mutual consent. Mr Benitez relinquishes his position as team manager after six years and the Board of Directors would like to place on record their grateful thanks for his services and wish him all the best in his future career. The Board has now asked Managing Director Christian Purslow, with the assistance of Club Ambassador Kenny Dalglish, to begin a formal search to identify and assess potential candidates for the managerial position. No timescale has been placed on the process and Liverpool FC will make no further statement until a new manager is appointed. LFC Chairman Martin Broughton said: "Rafa will forever be part of Liverpool folklore after bringing home the Champions League following the epic final in Istanbul but after a disappointing season both parties felt a fresh start would be best for all concerned.'' Rafael Benitez said: "It is very sad for me to announce that I will no longer be manager of Liverpool FC. I would like to thank all of the staff and players for their efforts. "I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager. "Thank you so much once more and always remember: You'll never walk alone." 15. Following the departure of Fiona Xie, Dawn Yeoh, and Jesseca Liu, Caldecott Hill's seven princesses are now whittled down to a mere four: Jeanette Aw, Felicia Chin, Joanne Peh, and Rui En. At last night's Star Awards 2010 Show 2 held in Resorts World Singapore, Felicia Chin hinted at the possibility of being next-to-go in her Top 10 Most Popular Female Artiste award acceptance speech when she said, "This might be my last time standing on this stage." In an interview with xinmsn, the 26-year-old actress professed her nervousness and happiness in winning this award. She felt particularly touched with this win because "I have not been appearing on local TV screens in Singapore for a long time." "I was told that my name was on the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artiste listings for the past 9 weeks and I am really grateful for this," she honestly quipped. Decked out in a colourful ensemble from Indian designer, Manish Arora, Felicia played coy when asked about her mysterious hint onstage saying, "it is hard to predict what will happen in future." Currently filming an upcoming sports drama series, No Limits, with Elvin Ng and Dai Yangtian, she likened the award as "a very good present" and repeatedly expressed her thanks and joy. When asked if she plans to leave the entertainment industry and return to school -- as she previously mentioned in interviews, Felicia said nothing and merely confessed that her mother "hopes for me to finish my studies." "I personally hope to complete my father and mother's tiny dream. I personally feel that studying is a really great thing to do. It's like taking one step forward. It's not convenient for me to reveal my contract details, but there might be some minor changes this year. "Time will tell," the enigmatic one concluded.
  16. When I decided to go with her, many people were suprised. She is a plain jane, looks older than me and was born in Thailand. Because of other people's comments, I myself began to have doubts over my choice. However, as I got to know her, I found that she was very underrated. As long as I gave her the proper care and attention, she never let me down, never gave me any problems and was always took care of me. During the time I was with her, we shared so many adventures, happy moments and memorable experiences together. Alas, after so many years, the feeling has worn off and I decided to part ways. On our last day, I curtly collected my stuff and walked off without even a look back or a last farewell. Even though my new one is better in almost everyway, I still think of old plain jane and wonder how she is. I hope she will soon find happiness with some one else. Do you still remember your first car?

  21. Football: Liverpool talks near 'final stage', says Saudi prince RIYADH: Saudi Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdullah said on Wednesday that talks over his F6 company buying a major stake in Liverpool are nearing conclusion, as club co-owner George Gillett visited Riyadh. "Our negotiations to buy shares in Liverpool are ongoing, meetings are taking place and we might be in the final stages in the coming days," Prince Faisal told AFP. Gillett, one of the two US owners of the legendary but heavily-indebted English team, was in Riyadh mainly to discuss a project regarding the creation of Liverpool soccer academies around the region, Prince Faisal said. In recent weeks, both parties have admitted that potential investment from Faisal has been firmly on the agenda. Gillett and club co-owner Tom Hicks have been seeking new investment in Liverpool after refinancing some of its large debt during the summer. The two met with Prince Sultan bin Fahd, president of the Saudi Youth Welfare organisation and chairman of the Saudi League, on Wednesday. "The purpose of the visit of the owner of Liverpool Football Club to Saudi Arabia is to understand the sports industry and to learn about the facilities and the potential of the main clubs in order to set up the Liverpool Academy in Saudi Arabia," Prince Faisal said. The agreement between F6, a sports marketing and investment firm controlled by Faisal, would also provide opportunities for young Saudi players to train at Liverpool, he said. - AFP/de Source: CNA

  23. Sent my princess for a quick manual wash at Caltex Bukit Batok yesterday and boy, the car wash was packed like sardines in a can. Paid the usual S$7 and queued behind 2 taxis and a car. Went through the process like normal and came to the last stage of having the car wiped dry. Was reversing my car to an empty lot when suddenly "THUMP THUMP THUMP!!" followed by "Hoy!Hoy!". WTH! Looked into the rear view mirror, clear! Turn my head round and look, clear! Then what is it?? Got down my car and looked at the cleaning lady who was supposed to wipe my car dry. "Si mi tai chi? Ermm . . xiao jie, se mo shi?" I reverted to Chinese when I realised the lady was from China (pardon my Han Yu Pin Yin). I gestured to her, what's wrong. By now 10 to 12 pairs of eyes were staring in my direction. AND she said . . . guess what she said!! "Ni ho mian yo che" (There's a car behind you) I said "Where?? Where car??" She pointed proudly to a BMW parked 10 meters behind my car, 10 meters!! I shook my head and got into my car. OMG!! She spanked my princess on her butt. Previously they splashed petrol on my princess when pumping petrol, now this woman banged with her fist my car boot Good bye Caltex! I have had enough
