  1. Manhattan Fish Market has been accused of denying a mother in Singapore a Mother’s Day promotion offer because the woman has no husband. According to a June 5 Facebook post by Mellissa Seah, the incident occurred at the Manhattan Fish Market outlet at Changi Airport Terminal 1. Seah wrote that she came across a promotion where mothers are entitled to a free Manhattan Fish ‘N Chips with every purchase of a main dish. Staff allegedly said, “Your family is not complete” Seah thought that this was a good deal and wanted to dine at Manhattan Fish Market with her mother. However, when Seah asked about the promotion, the eatery’s personnel allegedly told her that her mother did not qualify for it. The staff allegedly said, “You’re not entitled to this because your family is not complete,” and “The father is missing”. Seah clarified that her family is incomplete “not by choice”, but did not elaborate: Seah also wrote that it was “disappointing that a brand like MFM still has the mindset that a Complete Family Unit is one that is made up of Father, Mother and Child”. She ended her post by saying that she is proud to be part of an incomplete family, and she will never patronise Manhattan Fish Market again.
  2. Hello, I am researching the benefits of running a large radio campaign and I am wondering if anyone here has prior radio advertising experience? My goal is not at all branding, but rather direct sales. I would be directing the radio listeners to my website. So I am wondering how the ROI of radio ads compares to web ads? Does anyone have knowledge of how to purchase and setup a large radio campaign? I went through many resources and checked Advertising Campaign Examples but,I haven't found a clear source for rates and to purchase ads. Any advice? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

  6. I happened to watch some of the MediaCorp New Year celebration last night. Wasn't expecting such a mediocre performance by the invited artistes in general. But what was most surprising was the VW golf mk 7 sitting atop the stage and all the advertisements and segments. Anyone was put off by this? I certainly was. Why would MediaCorp invite such a marketing ploy for a big event like this? Surely something could be done in light of the COE situation. (I'm not against VW btw - just think the marketing is too aggressive)

  9. Please members, check your credit card(s) statement every month promptly. I received a credit card statement from UOB and was shocked that another credit card was issued to me last year of which I had not even seen it or the card being posted to me. I only had one UOB card of which is link to Metro where I always shop. The credit card numbers stated in the statement was not even my sub-card. The statement requires me to pay for an annual fee of $192.80c for a credit card which I had not seen it ... Called UOB to check on the status of that credit card on Tues @1145hrs and was told that a Customer Service Officer from the marketing department will contact me within 1/2 an hour with regards to my querries. Waited for 28hrs and nothing heard. Called yesterday at 1630hrs and another female officer answered my call. Asked her to explain how the credit card was issued to me when I had not signed any application form and who is holding to this credit card? She asked whether I received any calls with regards to any credit card and I informed that every month, received many calls from different banks with regards to credit cards and I always reject all calls. She informed that its was their marketing side who had issued the card. I asked her why was the card issued in the first place and even if it was through telephone, they always follow up with official form for customers to sign before any card is issued. I told her this should not be the way for marketing side to boost their sales. I even quoted to her that even now whilst I am talking to her, she asked me some personal questions to confirm I am the principal card owner and what had happen to that credit card which was issued as no one made any confirmation ? She didn't even know who is keeping that credit card. Lucky no sales transactions on that credit card but the big question is Where or Who is holding that credit card? She promised to cancel that card and ask me to ignore the payment for the annual fee. So members, beware especially those who pay by GIRO and failed to check your monthly statement. Once deducted, very troublesome and time consuming to cancel it. If this could be done at the marketing side, there are no assurance that the card would not been taken out for a shopping spee by someone and the poor principal owner had to pay if he does not check his credit card statement.

  12. A bit long but please read... Received a phone call today from Citibank. Some girl on the line told me that a credit card which I applied for in May/June this year had some processing issues and offered to 'resend' me the form via email so I can 'just put a signature' on it to get the card up and running. Problem is I don't recall applying for any card so I told her that since it has already been half a year, I probably didn't need the card anymore but just send me the form and details anyway. Didn't think much of it as I had intended to just ignore the request as I don't want any card, even if I had signed up for it. So I went home today and apparently, my dad also tio the same caller! Interesting thing is..same storyline! And again, my dad being the alert one, told me that he too, didn't sign up for any card in May/June period. We were quite suspicious about this whole thing and after discussion, we were really certain there was no such application made before! Hence bros, do take note...the caller will know some of your details and will probably offer to send you some form. THINK before you sign anything and forward back! *Looking at the scanned form they sent me, if their storyline were to be true and that I had indeed signed up in May/June, why is it that they don't even have information like my i/c number which I would have probably filled in at that point in time? And they only sent me one part of a form..the part which required personal info and siggie, nothing about the details of the card which I had supposedly applied or and requested over the phone.* And what kind of bank will take more than half a year to get back to you about a flawed application? So bros, please beware!

  16. To those in either Marketing or Sales as a career I was having a chat with a group of friends when this observation came about 1)Sales jobs seem to pay on the lower end compared to other functional displine such as HR, of course there is commission but as an employee you are indirectly participating in the profits of the co (i.e the value you can add which determines your salary, is to a great extent determined by the kind of company / business you work for eg if you work for sme, there is a limit to how much you can participate in the biz's profits due to the scope and reputation of the biz, if you work for mnc, they don t need you to push their products that hard (in most cases) so this results in a)more sme opportunities i find in sales b)Pay of Sales job generally lagging behind c)Abundance of supply of Sales and Marketing people perhaps leading to more competition in job leading to lower salary d)facing targets for not so attractive pay my friends in hr easily earn 7-8k and they are only middle hr managers(age 31-33), don t have to face targets and generally work for mncs which have a more stable and comfortable work environment and most probably on their way to 5 digit salaries in a few years. barring those real estate agents and insurance agents, i don t really see this opportunity in sales and in marketing with the specific experience (industry) usually being a barrier it does nt seem as attractive. HR on another hand is more versatile and functional The truth is i am a little tired with chasing targets and the prospects of sales seem waning with the above factors and am contemplating a chance of job function to hr (start from scratch) while i am still not too old - was told i most probably start again from 2.5 - 3k but will go up to 5-6k in 4 to 5 years and etc. In addition sales jobs are very age sensitive so i might expire early if i go on. guys need your comments from those who have experienced a career transition or whatsoever
  17. hi guys, check with you if i want to advertise my company on some magazines or on the net where should i go to check for the listings?
  18. Motoring Published January 17, 2007 Borneo Motors gets new sales, marketing heads Email this article Print article ? Feedback A MANAGEMENT reshuffle at Borneo Motors Singapore has resulted in a change in the executives in charge of the Toyota and Lexus brands, whose roles have been refined. Experienced: Mr Yeo (above) was previously GM-director of Champion Motors, distributors of Suzuki, and Mr Choo was Borneo's special assistant to CEO, directorate Gavin Yeo has been appointed director of sales and marketing for Toyota and Hino, while William Choo has become director of sales and marketing for Lexus. Mr Yeo was previously GM-director of Champion Motors, which distributes Suzuki. Borneo and Champion are part of the Inchcape group of companies. Mr Choo was previously Borneo's special assistant to CEO, directorate. The two men replace former director of marketing Peh Hock Chuan and director of sales William Low. Mr Peh and Mr Low submitted their resignations some time ago and will leave the company at the end of January. Both of them are headed overseas for jobs that will be motor industry-related. Mr Low said he was head-hunted by an automotive company and will be involved in business development. He will be flying to Shanghai in late February after clearing his leave. 'Now is the best time to go to China,' he explained. 'China has a lot of opportunities and it will be good for my long-term career advancement.' Borneo will not have any transition worries because there is a 'good succession plan', he said. 'And if I don't leave, there will not be opportunities for the second liners,' he added with a laugh. Asked whether Toyota's falling market share was related to his impending departure, he said it was only a rumour. 'People always have different kinds of stories. We have been number one for five years in a row,' he said, referring to Toyota's top ranking since 2002, when it overtook Nissan to become Singapore's most popular brand. 'Our top priority is to be number one. If we can gain market share that will be good. But despite an ageing model line-up, we have still been able to retain the number one position. I think that is acceptable.' Borneo's managing director Mark Choong said Mr Low and Mr Peh were 'not pushed out'. 'They left of their accord. With their departure, we have revamped the organisation and given new opportunities to our younger managers,' Mr Choong said. 'Even though I've lost two senior managers, their replacements are experienced.' Mr Choo has been with Borneo for more than 10 years, while Mr Yeo was responsible for building up the Suzuki brand. 'In every change comes new opportunity,' Mr Choong said. Some in the motor industry have speculated that surging parallel import (PI) sales and an eroding market share are behind the management reshuffle. One particular success for the PI trade is the Wish compact MPV, which is not offered by Borneo and which chalked up 6,628 units last year to become Singapore's top MPV model by a huge margin. 'If you look at Borneo's model range, it is not new. If the car is new like the Toyota Camry, it is expensive when compared to a Japanese-made Camry brought in by a PI,' said a competitor, referring to Borneo's Thai-made Camry. The company's Corolla Altis, Vios and Yaris are also sourced from Toyota Thailand. Mr Yeo's track record in boosting Suzuki Swift sales should mean a rejuvenation of Toyota sales, the competitor said. 'Champion's high-spec Swift is better value than the PIs' and the company's marketing is also more appealing because it is geared towards lifestyle and image.'
