  5. Man who stabbed BMW driver to death in viral road rage incident ruled to have acted in self-defense. A man who stabbed a BMW driver to death in a viral road rage incident last week in the Jiangsu city of Kunshan has been ruled to have acted in justifiable self-defense, a decision that has been the cause of celebration across the Chinese internet. The incident occurred at an intersection on Monday night at around 9:37 pm. Surveillance camera footage shows a BMW attempting to swerve into a bike-only lane ahead of a red light, bumping up against one cyclist who refuses to give way. Quickly, two passengers, one man and one woman, exit the car and approach the cyclist. The woman helps the cyclist, a 41-year-old man named Yu Haiming, move his electric bike to the sidewalk. After talking for a time, the two head back to the BMW. However, it’s then that the driver, a 36-year-old man named Liu Hailong, storms out of the vehicle and heads straight for Yu. Though the male passenger tries to hold him back, Liu continues to try to attack Yu. Eventually, Liu returns to his car and reemerges with a machete. This time, the passenger does not try to get in the way as Liu rushes at Yu and takes a number of swipes. Yu holds his ground long enough for the machete to get knocked out of Liu’s hand, falling on the road. The two men both scramble to pick up the weapon, however, it is Yu that gets to it first. With the machete in hand, Yu is able to throw Liu to the ground and stab once at his stomach. Liu then gets up and tries to run back to his car. Yu chases him, slashing at his opponent at least another four times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cn9_KCPfQPs https://shanghai.ist/2018/09/03/man-who-stabbed-bmw-driver-to-death-in-viral-road-rage-incident-ruled-to-have-acted-in-self-defense/ I say justified because it was unprovoked. Who goes around carrying a machete in the car too?

  9. Kid to be hung! REspect the parents for making that decision Taiwan student who went on subway stabbing spree to face firing squad The Star / Asia News Network July 2014 Taiwanese prosecutors on Monday said they were seeking the death penalty for a man accused of killing four people and wounding nearly two dozen others in a stabbing spree on the Taipei subway that shocked the island. Cheng Chieh, a 21-year-old college student, was charged with four accounts of murder and 22 accounts of attempted murder for the fatal attack on May 21, the first of its kind on the city's subway system since it began operating in 1996. "The accused's actions fit the definition of mass murders, his means were ruthless and inhuman, and caused irreparable harm to the victims and their families. We demand the court sentence him to death," prosecutors said in a statement. The incident shocked Taiwan, otherwise proud of its low levels of violent crime, and resulted in several minor injuries as edgy commuters fled trains over false alarms in the following week. Cheng's parents had asked for him to be sentenced to death to help ease the pain inflicted on the victims and their families, calling their son's actions "unforgivable", reports The Star. Executions are carried out in Taiwan by a single shot to the heart from the back - or, if the prisoner agrees to donate his organs, a bullet to the back of the head. Prosecutors said psychological evaluations have shown that Cheng was not in a state of mental disorder when he committed the crime, and that he is fit to stand trial. They described him as "anti-society, narcissistic, immature and pessimistic". In elementary school, he vowed to "kill people in revenge" after having trouble with classmates, they said. Local media said he had been obsessed with online killing games and had written horror stories since high school. Cheng's parents spoke to reporters on May 27 at the subway station outside Taipei where the killings took place. " Although he is our child, the crime he committed is unforgivable," Cheng's sobbing father said. "I think he should be sentenced to death... he should face it himself. Only by so doing may the pains inflicted on the victims and the wounded and their families be slightly eased." He urged judges to pass sentence on his son as soon as possible. "We hope Cheng Chieh can act in a correct manner during his next life," he added. Security has been strengthened on the metro, which transports around 1.85 million people a day. The Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation is seeking a compensation of Tw$20.61 million ($687,000) from Cheng for operational losses after it lost around 945,000 passengers in the 10 days following the attack.

  11. SINGAPORE: The first of the group involved in the Downtown East murder has pleaded guilty. 21-year-old Jason Chew Wei Beng admitted to three charges on Wednesday. Prosecution is proceeding on two of the three charges - rioting and voluntarily causing hurt. Chew admitted to causing grievous hurt to 19-year-old Darren Ng Wei Jie on 30 October 2010, between 5.30pm and 5.57pm, at the foyer of Downtown East. He did so with 11 members of an unlawful assembly, by slashing and stabbing the deceased with knives, choppers and a screwdriver. In mitigation, defence counsel Tan Beng Swee told the court that his client did not expect a fight to take place at Downtown East as his friends did not warn him about it. Mr Tan said Chew subsequently met his other friends and for fear of getting implicated, he kept a distance from the group as he walked behind them. The defence lawyer added that Chew then went to McDonald's with two of his friends and were taunted by the girlfriends of his buddies. At that time, two groups were said to be arguing outside the fast food chain. Trying not to lose face, the trio at McDonald's went out to help their friends. Unfortunately for Chew, Mr Tan said the fight broke out just as he went to join his group of friends. Mr Tan also stressed that Chew is not a secret society member. He pointed out that Chew, unlike his other friends who were in for a fight, did not bring or buy choppers or knives. Wrapping up, Mr Tan said none of the injuries inflicted on the deceased was due to Chew. In response, Deputy Public Prosecutor Peggy Pao said the charges were amended and reduced to reflect the lesser culpability of Chew's involvement. While Chew tried to distant himself from the group, he remained. DPP Pao said he could have walked away when taunted, instead of giving in, but he did not and the act of joining the fight shows that he lacked morals. She added that Chew cannot claim the glory of being in a fight, yet hope that later on he would not have to face the consequences. Prosecution added that Chew had been placed on probation previously but still went ahead to take part in the fight. For rioting, Chew faces a jail term of up to seven years and shall be liable to caning. He admitted that he punched the head of 20-year-old Yeo Jun Liang on 6 April 2010 at about 6.10pm at Bishan bus interchange, together with three friends. For this charge, Chew faces a maximum jail term of two years, or with fine of up to S$5,000, or both. Sentencing will take place on the 6 March. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1184485/1/.html

  16. Dalvey stabbing case: Poly student gets 16 years, 16 strokes By Khushwant Singh, Court Reporter Choking back tears, Navin Jatin Batla told the High Court on Wednesday that he was not going to deny or justify the offences. He said: 'Doing so will be a bigger crime.' Instead, the 23-year-old Indian national asked for a lenient sentence. 'If not for myself, then for my mother as she has sacrificed everything including selling her house to pay my legal costs,' he added. As the anxious mother watched from the public gallery, Justice Kan Ting Chiu sentenced her only son to a total of 16 years and 16 strokes of the cane for stabbing his ex-girlfriend's father and two maids in June 2006. The judge told Batla: 'You came here to do a course in marine engineering sponsored by a major shipping company in India. By committing the offences... you have brought tragedy onto yourself and your widowed mother and destroyed everything.' Batla, with his hands clasped in front of him, sobbed quietly. Things were looking bright when he arrived here in October 2005 to study at the Singapore Polytechnic. A month later, he met Ms Mumta Manik Shahani, 38, a Web designer, at the One Night Stand pub in Clarke Quay. Two weeks later, they were intimate and he would often sneak into her house to spend the night with her. Her father found out and told her to stop seeing the much younger Batla. She broke up with him on June 29 and an upset Batla bought two knives, four cans of lighter fuel, and cable ties that could be used as restraints. Using a key given to him by Ms Shahani, he stole into the bungalow in the exclusive Dalvey estate off Stevens Road soon after midnight on June 30. He then went on his stabbing spree. Asking for leniency, Batla's lawyer, Mr BJ Lean said that his client loved Ms Shahani and her 10-year-old son and wanted to marry her. 'The break-up sent him deep into depression and made him commit these crimes,' Mr Lean said. The lawyer also produced a report from a psychologist in Mumbai, who had treated Batla since 1997. Batla's mother, Madam Pooja Batla, 51, who has flown down regularly from Mumbai since Batla was arrested in June 2006, told reporters that she accepted the sentence as her son had done wrong. 'It's been a long wait and now this part is over and I can only look forward to his release,' she said. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...53.html?vgnmr=1 Luckily put away from society, else he may hv turned up and made local poly look like Coumbine High School.
