  5. Would like to pose a question to the legal experts out there. I know we definitely have more than a few legal eagles in this forum. Question is: Someone gives me a contract for work to be performed, those kind that go "...whereas it is hereby agreed that...". I and the other party initial/sign each page to indicate that we have sighted the page. But then at the end of it, the other party puts down his signature on the space reserved for it at the end of the contract. I don't sign the space reserved for me. Instead, I only do the initial/sign thing at the bottom corner of this page. Is this contract valid, though I didn't put my signature at the big blank reserved for it with my name, I/C number printed below, etc.? Or in other words, if I breach the contract, can the other party claim damages according to the terms stated in the contract?
  6. Source: http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/Motor...510-140405.html what a load of BullSh*t ! Can you guys imagine bankers and all those suits cycling around Shenton? And if they really wanted to discourage car ownership, wouldnt the BEST way be just to make COE back to the highs of 30-40k ? there weren't congestions back then like today :) and what the crap is with each road having no more than 2 buses!!! hey if we had 100k COES next month onwards than perhaps this is possible
  7. Letter to forum Allow 10-year validity for adult passports WITH the introduction of the biometric passport, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has reduced the validity period of a Singapore passport by half, from 10 years to five. As a result, Singaporeans are required to renew their passports more frequently and incur additional costs - $70 per passport for submission of applications by Internet or post and $80 for submissions at ICA counters. As I understand it, the main reason for the change is that biometric passport holders are not allowed to update their photographs, unlike previously with non-biometric passports. ICA has since ceased the passport updating service. Instead, passport holders are required to change their passports every five years. This could be a waste of time and money, especially for those who travel infrequently and hardly use their passports. This requirement should not be applicable to adult Singaporeans. Unlike children, the features of adults do not change much over the years and there is actually no need to update the photographs every five years. After all, we do not need to update the photographs for our identity cards. Thus, passports issued to adults above 21 years (at the time of issue) should be given a longer validity period, say 10 years, as it was previously. This will help Singaporeans to save money and the hassle of frequent renewals. It will also help to reduce the crowds and the workload at ICA counters. In addition, applicants are required to submit a colour photograph together with the application form. However, only a black-and-white version appears in the biometric passport. This is a step backwards. Since photographs help to identify the passport holders, ICA should consider displaying them in colour. I hope ICA will consider implementing my suggestions. Goh Kian Huat Every 5 years is a very short interval just like asking mindef from deferrent from reservist - every 2 years now previously every one year but we do change in our appearance every 5 years I ever seen my friend's passport from another country than never change for 10 years. Now he looks like ah peh but photo in the passport look like a young man that goes pubbing so who is right or wrong is 5 years a good balance
  8. Recently I noticed that quite a number of OPC car drivers drove their cars during peak hours without using a valid coupon. Yesterady morning (05Jul Saturday) at around 10am, I walked pass a black OPC chevrolet Aveo which was parked along the Yew Tee Close near the MRT station and noticed that the driver didn't put a coupon on its windows. I passed the same area at around 7.30am that morning to buy newspapers and had not seem the Aveo then. So it's obviously that the car was driven down there and parked between 7.30am and 10am! I didn't think the driver was foolish enough to hide or take the coupon with him/her after parked the car. So the only explaination was he/she didn't use a coupon that day. Then it suddenly occured to me that I should report it! But at the same time, I was guessing that the (quite new) Vveo's owner could be a very young chap who can barely afford a small opc. What I choose to do could bring him/her into big financial trouble. Well, you may say the chap deserves the punishment since he/she chose to break the law and I 100% agree with you. But having witnessed a few young friends who had experienced some financial troubles only because of the stupid mistakes they made, I really cannot decide if I should do the reporting thing. I thought it for a few seconds and walked away - would you do the same? or would you choose to report it? And where you would report it? Really hope that a friend of the Aveo's driver can give him/her the warning! The ironic thing was that just as I was walking away wondering if I was a stupid busybody, another silver colour OPC car zoom passed me on the same street! As you have guessed it, it didn't display any coupon neither.
  9. I have a problem here. I park at this Sengkang HDB car park overnight last month and place a $2 coupon on my dashboard beside the IU. I got fined $30 the following morning at 4am stating no coupon was displayed. I checked my coupon and it was still there on the dashboard with the right date and time. I have always placed my coupon there without any problem. I have appealed 3 times over the past month and the HDB officer
