Canadian national Jason Blair Unger's actions were said to have damaged parts of the bonnet near the headlights and registration plate. The video was uploaded online and shared widely across social media. On the night of Oct 17, 2014, Unger and 48-year-old Woo Wing Onn, were travelling along a five-lane carriageway along Selegie Road. Unger was on his bicycle and switched from the leftmost fifth lane, which was a turning lane, to the fourth lane. Mr Woo switched from the third lane to the fourth, and subsequently to the fifth as he wanted to turn left. However, after a taxi hampered his movement, he switched back to the fourth lane, directly behind Unger. Due to a stationary lorry, the slow-moving taxi then filtered to the fourth lane, driving to a spot directly in front of the cyclist. Mr Woo was heard saying "Stupid bicycle, also another one" in video footage from his car camera. By this time, the bicycle and car were very close. After turning around to look at Mr Woo, Unger braked, causing the car to jam brake and come into contact with the bicycle. Unger then alighted from his bicycle, took it and dropped it on the bonnet of the car. He then asked Mr Woo why the latter hit him and said that he was "someone with a kid". Mr Woo apologised, but his wife confronted the Canadian about the damage caused and called the police to report the matter. In mitigation, defence led by litigator Andy Chiok said that Unger had made full restitution for the damage, paying about $2,219 for the replacement of the bonnet. He also said Unger was a first-time offender and had lived in Singapore since August 2010. He is married to a Singaporean and has a 18-month-old child. The defence also said that Unger dropped his bicycle on the bonnet as he feared for his safety and lost his temper in the heat of the moment. However, Mr Chiok said that Unger accepted his subsequent actions were "inexcusable". Mr Chiok said that Unger's employment prospects in Singapore were "effectively tarnished" due to the video's wide circulation online. After the video went viral, Unger was asked by children in his school why he had behaved that way as well, the lawyer said. Testimonials from his employers, past and present stated that his actions were "out of character". Throw the bike on the car and end up being fined. Stompers Eddie and Dean had come across the accident site and contributed photos. According to Eddie, the cyclist was crushed by the lorry. He said: "A man has just been killed outside 4 Changi South Lane. He was on a motorised bicycle going along the pavement, when a lorry came out of the building and crushed him. "I only caught the immediate aftermath when I stepped out for a smoke. The accident had happened about five minutes before, but I spoke to an eyewitness." Eddie added that he saw an investigation team and local reporters at the scene as well. Dean also told Stomp in a phone interview, "A guy riding a bicycle back to his workplace from lunch met with a fatal accident." A spokesperson for the Police said: "Police received a call on 15 June 2015 at around 1.29pm, informing us of an accident along Changi South Lane. "Upon police arrival, it was established that an accident involving a lorry and a bicycle had occurred at the the said location. "The 49-year-old male cyclist was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. "The 60-year-old male lorry driver was arrested for causing death by negligent act. "Police investigations are ongoing." They ride these all over the place ... roads ... pavements ... the speed which they travel at are relatively quick. I remember a video a few months ago when a similiar instance occured when a car was coming out of an industrial car park (those with the walls on both sides of the exits and entrances) .... then out of nowhere one of these motorised bicycles came out of nowhere and was knocked down by the car fortunately without consequences.
