  1. I have email and posted comments on his blog but NO reply questions to him 1. Have you declare that you do not have self interest (that is you did yourself invest in the minibonds) in the minibond that you appear to be fighting so hard for the people 2. If you want to run for the president why do you want to have 100,000 signatures before you decide to apply? Could this be just vanity or an ego trip? 3. While in NTUC as the Chairman what were you doing, hibernating or sucking eggs (must big ones like ostrich eggs) for the past 30 years AND suddenly you come out to grind your axe with almost everyone who had worked with you like your replacement in NTUC and the authorities. I asked if he stepped down or was removed but did not get a reply. These are just but few of the burning questions that people would like to know but you have kept mum. you seek greater transparency from the authorities but how about starting with yourself first especially if you already demonstrated your interest in running for presidency. What do you guys think?
  2. Lai, since we have some requests to re-jiak the liu lian, and it has been a 2 months since our last MU, today I bring you, " 13th July 2017 Jiak liu lian MU" Once again, this is more of a get together bonding than a actual eat premium durian session, so I am trying to keep the cost as low as possible for everyone. I am proposing a fee of $25/pax. As usual with any paid event from me, the venue is left private to avoid any gate crash which may upset paying members later, my apologies if anyone is offended but I seek understanding from you guys. As usual, anyone whom like to join us, but do not want to list your name here, pls PM me and I shall take note of that and list the name down as "private" in the list. From past experience, we found that in order for everyone to participate in the grp, a grp size of 12-14 is ideal, any bigger and some may be left attended, and since this is a paid event, we will be limiting the total number to 12. Cut off date will be 10th July 2017, 2359hrs or 12 slots fill up, which ever is earlier, and finalize payment by 12th July 2017, 2359hrs. No collection on 13th July itself. bro @kusje pls check if you can make it, you still have a rain check to claim. Ai jiak liu lian pls cum in! All are welcome, eat liu lian and talk cock. Date: 13 July 2017 time: starting 8pm venue: through Private arrangement. proposed price: $25/pax Please fill in the blanks 1) Tianmo
  3. Ok lai, so we have some bros asking for liu lian MU. Lets have a show of how many interested. I dont think now is a good time for liu lian yet, next month mayb the starting of the season. If we have enough interest, I can go find out more information and mayb make some arrangements. Time and venue to be cfm later, but likely to be in early-mid May, in the eastern area this time ( we had recently in West, town and North. Also there is a Hyundai event coming up end April). And pls hor, we are talking about the fruit here, not the ah lian with the surname Liu hor. I attach photo in case ppl start asking me about the ah lian. Anyway, I rushing for a meeting, you guys discuss, will join when I am done.
  4. Did I read wrongly? http://tankinlian.blogspot.com/2012/03/dog...-logic-and.html Dogs and humans - a matter of logic and reason A scholar from China, Sun Xu, posted a remark "there are more dogs than humans in Singapore". Many Singaporeans were outraged and condemned him vociferously and relentlessly in the social media. The anger was amplified by the fact that he is studying in Singapore on funding provided by the Government, and is seen to be quite ungrateful. There were calls for the scholarship to be rescinded. Sun Xu regretted his careless statement and made an apology in a microblog. He also sought the assistance of the Chinese embassy to be given a chance to "repay the kindness" that he has received from Singapore. I hope that the condemnation and the call for vengeance should now subside and that this matter can be laid to rest. Let us look at this statement from the perspective of logic and reason. When Sun Xu said that there are "more dogs", he must be imputing that many Singaporeans behave like dogs, He did not say that "all" Singaporeans behave in that but he did imply that "most" Singaporeans fit into that mold. In that respect, many people (including me) would disagree with him. But, we would probably agree that "some" Singaporeans do behave badly. In the heat of anger, we forgot to ask him to explain his remark. What exactly is the negative behavior that he was alluding to? I have a dog, a Schnauzer, called Twinkle. She must have felt very offended to be associated with bad behavior, especially of the kind that is practiced by humans rather than her kind. She wanted me to point out that her kind also has positive traits, such as loyalty and friendliness, as described by the phrase " a dog is a man's best friend" There is, frankly, one part of her trait that can be attributed to some (perhaps many) Singaporeans. She wants to appear brave but deep inside, she is not that brave. When a stranger comes to the house, she would bark most loudly and relentlessly, but would keep a distance from the stranger. If challenged, she would probably run into hiding. I do not blame her, for she is really small compared to the stranger. Let us take a lesson from this saga. While many of us disagree with the statement made by Sun Xu, he has already apologized. We should display a more tolerant and forgiving attitude. We should also avoid "jumping to conclusion" and, in a similar situation in the future, ask "can you explain your statement? " That would be the trait of a reasonable person - a positive trait that Singaporeans should cultivate. Tan Kin Lian

  6. From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...eat_auntie.html Posted on 25 Jun 2012 'Polite Ah Lian' who took on 'priority seat auntie' says she's no hero After being caught on video which depicts a spat on the MRT over a priority seat, Huina, has been dubbed the 'most polite ah lian' by netizens for the way she carried herself in front of a disgruntled woman. However the 20-year-old says, 'There is nothing for me to be hero about'. According to a report in The New Paper, netizens have praised Huina for facing up to the 'priority seat auntie', posting their support on her facebook wall with comments like, 'You are Singapore's pride. Awesome girl!' and 'You are my super idol'. Other netizens also posted encouraging comments like, 'Support ah lian. These old aunties need to be told off sometimes. Give them an inch and they want a yard.' as well as 'I support you, you are being nice to just keep quiet when she kept shouting at you'. Huina was on a train heading towards Pasir Ris last Monday (Jun 18) at about 6.30pm. The retail assistant had given up the priority seat she had been occupying to an older woman, who then insulted her: 'So displeasing. Most probably you're from China. Ask you for the seat, keep on staring for how many hours? So rude.' Huina initially ignored the woman, also partially because she was using earphones and could not hear the woman. Only after seeing the woman's hand gestures and finger pointing did she remove the earphones. The video had been taken by fellow commuter Muhammad Khair, 21, and ended with a heated argument with the two women exchanging profanities. However, Huina was lauded for saying 'please' before she started cursing and giving up her seat to begin with. She also avoided further conflict by moving to another cabin when the train stopped at Raffles Place. She eventually alighted at Tanah Merah station. A photo has also been circulating online of Huina, in which she won the 'Most Polite Ah Lian Award'. Huina also told the paper she really likes the picture. Chuckling, she commented: 'Where do you find a polite ah lian?' STOMPer Ren3 said: "This girl is cool! She not only takes her newfound fame in good stride, she is also amused by it although she doesn't like to be called 'ah lian'. "Really good-natured, unlike the grumpy auntie, who apparently had done the same to others in her path (priority seat). "Okay, maybe she shouldn't have used vulgarities back, but let's just say, a lot of us do use vulgarities automatically when enraged. "One up for the ah lian, and let's all keep a look out for the auntie in case she happens to be on the same train as us."
  7. Cheers for the ah lian, cos the auntie is abit too much liao.... [laugh]

  9. Tan Kin Lian did a good job in check and balance on Law Minister's statements. He should be our champion of check and balance on the govt. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1145627/1/.html PE: Shanmugam clarifies comments on President's role SINGAPORE: Law and Foreign Affairs Minister K Shanmugam has clarified his comments made at a recent forum about how influential the president can be. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a community event, Mr Shanmugam said that there are many areas where the Prime Minister has the duty to make decisions. Although the President cannot direct the Prime Minister on these matters, he can give his views and his advice even in areas outside his Constitutional power. Mr Shanmugam said it is untrue that only Government endorsed candidates can be influential. "The quality of the advice will depend on the person giving that advice and a President who is wise, knowledgeable and experienced will obviously be more influential than another who doesn't have as much experience or as much wisdom," said Mr Shanmugam. Mr Shanmugam said the office itself commands respect and whoever holds the office must be given the respect due. And as the President is elected by the people, Mr Shanmugam said that the people's power to make the choice must be respected. Mr Shamugam also responded to comments made by several other Presidential hopefuls who disagreed with him on the Constitutional Role of the President. He said they are entitled to their views and felt it was not appropriate for him to comment further on their statements. Mr Shanmugam said: "If there are disagreements, as previously it has happened before, we can always get it resolved through the courts. When you have check and balance, you must expect that sometimes there might be differences in views. And if there are differences in views, we have a structure and system in place to deal with those differences."
  10. if he is elected President. By Nigel Tan Chief Editor Former NTUC Income Chief Executive Tan Kin Lian has thrown his hat into the ring for the upcoming Presidential Election, confirming that he would contest the election if he is granted a Certificate of Eligibility. Mr Tan first shot to prominence following the Lehman Brothers minibonds crisis that affected thousands of investors following the collapse of the Wall Street investment bank. He took on an activist role, organising rallies at the Speakers
  11. Former NTUC Income chief Tan Kin Lian has thrown his name into the hat for the post of President of Singapore. In a short message on his blog on Tuesday, Tan said, "I have now decided to contest the Presidential Election (if I am given the Certificate of Eligibility)." He will issue a full statement later on Tuesday. Tan first announced his interest in contesting the Presidential polls, due by 31 Aug, last Friday after his friend collected the Certificate of Eligibility forms on his behalf. He was then undecided then as his wife, fearing a "possible smear campaign" had initial reservations about his participation. He also mentioned the fact that he also came from a humble background, and as such, was not sure he could fit the "ceremonial and diplomatic role of the Presidency." However, in his blog post entitled "Safeguarding the reserves" on Tuesday, Tan appeared more determined and said he had taken note of two main concerns that Singaporeans shared via Internet postings regarding the post of President. One was whether their money in the Central Provident Fund is safe, and whether the government is able to make payouts at the withdrawal dates. The other was whether Singapore has enough reserves to protect its economic security in the challenging global financial environment. He noted these concerns were worsened by the decline in trust in the government in recent years and a lack of transparency on the reserves. To improve transparency and assure people, Tan suggested the Elected President's office produce an annual report on Singapore's reserves, with the financial assets of relevant organisations stated at its book values and market value. "It is important to avoid focus on the market value as it is highly volatile and is not appropriate for long term investments," he noted. Tan Kian Lian confirms his bid on his blog. (Screencap) The annual report should show the obligation of the government and include people's balance held in the Central Provident Fund as well as the bonds and guarantees issued by the government. Physical assets such as military hardware and infrastructure may be excluded from the annual report so long as there are adequate measures to ensure these items can be properly accounted for, said Tan, citing the need to preserve national secrets and the practical difficulty in listing the items. "Some people may worry that it will be quite a challenge to produce this annual report. This is not the case, as it is what multi-national corporations have to do now," he said. "I believe that the publication of this annual report would improve transparency and give the assurance to the people of their financial security. The reserves held by the Singapore Government are among the highest in the world on a per-capita basis. There is really no need for the people to be concerned," he added. Tan also said, he would prefer Singapore's two sovereign wealth funds (Government of Singapore Investment Corporation and Temasek Holdings) to adopt a "conservative approach", by avoiding speculation on market timing and asset selection, when investing assets. Stanley Yang, a fan of Yahoo! Singapore's Facebook page welcomed Mr Tan's decision to run for President. He wrote, "Men-on-street, NTUC, middle ground, opposition supporters, PAP supporters, sandwiched class all can relate well with TKL. This is excellent news." Mr Tan joins Dr Tan Cheng Bock, a former PAP member and Ayer Rajah MP, in officially confirming his bid to run as a candidate for President of Singapore. An independent panel will decide if the duo meet the strict criteria required to become an official Presidential candidate. Among the criteria is candidates must have served for at least three years in a senior leadership role in government or chief of a company with a paid-up capital of at least S$100 million http://sg.news.yahoo.com/blogs/singaporesc...-041303754.html If George Yeo decides to run as well as the others, we may have an election coming out way soon. TKL don't look like a yes-man, will the same tactics used in GE be used against him?
  12. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1132943/1/.html What's your view? Hope he's not a yes-man or pap man.

  16. This old joke is courtesy of talkinc0ck.com. Never expect this to be a reality today. One of the main reasons why in recent years the Singapore Government has always ensured that their Miss Universe representative were of tertiary level education or higher was because of the following incident which occurred not too many years ago. It is the final round of the Miss Universe Pageant and the 3 finalists, Miss USA, Miss Malaysia and Miss Singapore are being asked 3 simple questions: MC: The first question is name me an electrical appliance starting with "L" Miss USA: Lamp Miss Malaysia: Light bulb Miss Singapore: LADIO Judge: No, no, Radio does not start with the letter "L" MC: I am going to give you 2 more chances; The next question is name me an animal starting with the letter "L" Miss USA: Lion Miss Malaysia: Leopard Miss Singapore: LABBIT Judge: No, no, no, Rabbit does not start with the letter "L" MC: I am going to give you one last chance, if you answer this question incorrectly, you are disqualified. Name me a fruit starting with the letter "L" Miss USA: Lemon Miss Malaysia: Lychee Miss Singapore, with full of confidence, smiles and says: LIEWLIAN ! This is not the end of the story, the Judge consulted the board of judges to determine if Miss Singapore should really disqualified; and they decided that since Miss Singapore was having as many problems with the letter "L", the decided to give her another chance. Judge: OK, the final question is name me a human anatomy starting with the letter "L" Miss USA: Lung (applause) Miss Malaysia: Liver (even more applause) Miss Singapore: L** J*** ! Judge: ?????????!!!!
  17. Home > Breaking News > Courts and Crime > Story Sep 24, 2008 3 caught for peddling fakes By Chua Hian Hou THREE people, including a polytechnic student, were arrested for peddling fake luxury goods over the Internet in a police crackdown on Tuesday. The trio, two men and a woman aged 18 to 29, 'will be released on bail pending further investigations', said a police statement on Tuesday night. Counterfeit goods from luxury brands like Louis Vuitton, computers and documents were seized in the five-hour crackdown. The trio had been passing off their counterfeits, which they sourced from suppliers in China, as the real deal for at least three months via their blog websites. They would collect money from the unwitting buyers via online banking or ATM transfers, and then send the items purchases via post or pass it to the buyers personally. The Straits Times understands that in the course of investigation , 'trap purchases' were also made to verify that the products were indeed fakes. 'The police and rights owners will continue to mount operations against infringers who think they can exploit the anonymity of the Internet to ply their trade,' said the statement. Those convicted of selling counterfeit items face fines of up to $100,000, as well as jail terms of up to 5 years. http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking%2BNew...ory_282044.html ---------------
