Joel Steele ran a 6.81-second quarter in his stock-block Coyote. Joel Steele made a name for himself after his 2012 Mustang became the first domestic, H-pattern manual transmission car to break into the 6s at FL2K earlier this year. That achievement made his car the fastest/quickest stock-block Coyote. Now he just upped the ante, becoming the overall fastest/quickest H-pattern car in the country, beating out Joel Granna's Supra in a heads-up race this past weekend at the World Cup Finals—Import vs. Domestic. Right off the trailer, Steele and team fought traction issues, but they discovered it was because their new bullhorn exhaust exits were leaking condensation onto the track ahead of the tires. They fixed that and made minor adjustments to the clutch before their last round of qualifying. "I was coming up to the staging lanes and saw Joel Grannas [previous overall stick-shift record holder] in the left lane so I jumped in the right. I thought I may not have another opportunity," said Steele. "I couldn't have asked for a better scenario; it was like a grudge race we set up three months prior." Steele made a 6.81 at 208 mph pass, beating out Grannas, then backed it up with a 6.81 at 210 mph in the first round of eliminations. A knocking noise ended their weekend early, however. The stock-block Coyote is heading back to engine builder TKM Performance, and Steele hopes to make the Mod Nationals this weekend. The driveline features a Tick Performance Ultimate Race Trans based on a Tremec Magnum XL. It features a PPG dog-ring/faceplated gear set and Tick Performance billet front plate with integrated spray bar, which coats the front gears with oil. He leaves the line with the slipper clutch, but all the following shifts are clutchless, using the Holley Dominator ECU to cut torque between shifts. Jonathan Atkins, owner of Tick Performance is Joel's new tuner. Jonthan campaigns the GrubbWorm Camaro powered by a stock-block Gen-II LT1 with a forged, destroked rotating assembly and Precision Turbo Pro Mod 102mm single turbo. It also features the Tick Performance Ultimate Race Trans based on a T56 with G-Force faceplated gear set and Tick Performance billet front plate. Right off the trailer, Atkins fought some intermediate traction issues, too. The team tried nitrous for the first time, but the car spun once the nitrous hit, so they opted against it for the remainder of the weekend. During Saturday's qualifying, Jonathan laid 6.97 at 211 mph and a 6.96 at 208 mph during eliminations. That was his first time breaking into the 6's, a goal the team has been chasing for over a year. He fought his way through eliminations, running against Joel Grannas, who unfortunately blew an engine on their heads-up pass. Atkins spun right off the line and backed out. "My run was over when I noticed a fireball from Grannas' car," said Atkins. "So, I got back in, spun, let out, back in it again, and thought I blew my engine. It was the ugliest pass in drag racing history, but it put us in the finals." Atkins and team finished in second place in the stick-shift class. With more interior room, significantly lower maintenance costs, and zero-emission operation, they fit with the future narrative playing out in major cities. Police departments are no exception, and several locations in the UK are interested in seeing how the Ford Mustang Mach-E could work as a full-fledged patrol car. That interest led Ford to develop a Mach-E concept specifically for police departments across the pond. This one-off creation will be evaluated by England's Metropolitan Police Force, but several other departments around the UK want a go behind the wheel. Aside from the Day-Glo exterior treatment and the requisite lightbar, the cop-spec Mach-E is fitted with special mounting pods and brackets to help suss out locations for items without causing too much damage to the vehicle. The LED lighting systems also run on a separate battery, so the Mach-E's range is unaffected by its emergency gear. This isn't the first time Ford developed a Mustang specifically for police use. The fox body Mustang notchback served police agencies across the United States through the 1980s and 1990s as the Mustang SSP. Standing for Special Service Package, the pony car received a variety of upgrades for added durability and functionality as an interceptor and yes, they all had Ford's venerable 5.0-liter high-output V8. Some even had a manual transmission. With an electric powertrain, the Mach-E wouldn't require heavy-duty upgrades like stronger hoses and extra coolers for engine oil or transmission fluid. The Mach-E also has considerably more interior space versus the old 5.0, and in GT guise it can reach 60 mph in under four seconds. That would make it tough for the bad guys to escape, provided they don't reach open roads for a long-distance sprint. For now at least, this is just a one-off vehicle for evaluation purposes. But we wouldn't be surprised to see an official Mach-E SSP cop car from Ford in the years to come. -

The 1,000-hp 1969 Mustang Mach 1 "Hitman" with John Wick paint job source: https://newatlas.com/automotive/1-000-hp-mustang-mach-1-hitman/ In Oklahoma there's a company called Classic Recreations that restores or reproduces classic muscle cars but with an injection of modern tech. The company's latest effort is called the "Hitman" and it's a glorious 1969 Mustang Mach 1 restomod with a John Wick-inspired paint job. The car's bodywork is an actual Mustang Mach 1 restored to factory-new condition by Classic Recreations. A Ford 32-valve 5.0-liter Coyote V8 32 valve crate engine with a BOSS 302 intake, together producing 1,000 horsepower (746 kW), is then added. Also in the package is a six-speed manual transmission from Tremec, a 9-inch 3.50 ratio rear end with Posi-Traction, and tubular subframe connectors. Engine management systems put power to the ground and a custom 2.5-inch Mandrel stainless steel manifold and exhaust system and Magnaflow mufflers let the growl commence. A custom 18-gallon fuel cell from Rick's Tanks provides the gas. The Hitman Mach 1 has a custom suspension with coilovers in front and Total Control rear coilovers at the back. Front and rear oversized sway bars keep the body and frame under control and a powered rack and pinion steering system adds driver control. Lightweight 18-inch American Racing Wheels are clad with Michelin Pilot Sport 2s in 225/40 up front and 315/30 at the rear, while six-piston Wilwood calipers with slotted and cross-drilled rotors are found behind all four wheels. Brake bias is controlled through an adjustable rear proportioning valve. An aluminum crossflow radiator from BeCool cools the engine and an "Old Air" air conditioning system does the same for the cabin, while a custom-designed JVC head unit and speaker layout with a Kicker amp provides the audio accompaniment. Inside there's also a woodgrain steering wheel, five-point seat harnesses, 200-mph gauges, TMI Mustang interior panels, and a cosmetic rollbar to keep things authentic. The Mustang Mach 1 Hitman is painted in two-tone "Hitman" gray and black with a factory style, period-correct chin spoiler and rear decklid spoiler. Mach 1 badges also feature. The Mach 1 Hitman shown here was custom-built to owner specifications and is the first Mach 1 to be built by Classic Restorations under official license from Ford. The company can customize and build to order another, if you have the (unspecified amount of) cash required.

Ford dealer is U.S. offering a Mustang with Gulf livery (and 808 horsepower)

A Tennessee-based Ford dealership specializing in Roush-tuned Mustangs has developed a real corker to celebrate this year's 50th anniversary of when a GT40 in Gulf Oil livery won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That was back in 1969, though the same car, also wearing the Gulf Oil livery, was also a winner at the 1968 24 Hours of Le Mans. The special Mustang honoring those wins has been developed by Brown Lee Ford of Nashville, Tennessee. It's called the Brown Lee Performance Gulf Heritage Mustang, and just 119 examples will be built, each priced from $139,995. That's a steep price to pay for a Mustang, especially with the Shelby GT500 offering up 760 horsepower for just $73,995. Well, Brown Lee Ford's Mustang goes further with an output of 808 horsepower and 677 pound-feet of torque generated by its 5.0-liter supercharged V-8. Paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or 10-speed automatic, the engine will rocket the car from 0-60 mph in as low as 3.3 seconds and past the quarter-mile in under 10.7 seconds. Beyond the supercharger, the Brown Lee Ford team upgraded the fuel injectors and added high-flow intake and exhaust systems, as well as intercooler. There's also track-tuned suspension, carbon fiber aero elements including a wicker bill spoiler, a few unique interior appointments, and of course the famous Gulf Oil livery. And for a bit of peace of mind, the car even comes with a 3-year/36,000 mile limited warranty. “We are incredibly proud to have this opportunity to honor the Ford and Gulf racing legacy in such a special build,” said Brock Patterson, Brown Lee Ford's global specialty vehicle manager. “With over 800 horsepower carrying this licensed icon from 0-60 mph in under 3.5 seconds, the Gulf Heritage Edition Mustang pays homage to the accomplishments of the Ford and Gulf racing teams from 50 years ago, on all levels.” The Brown Lee Performance Gulf Heritage Mustang will be presented on August 18 at the 2019 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Mustang retains World’s Best-Selling Sports Coupe title

With 113,066 units of the Mustang sold in 2018, Ford's coupe gets to keep its World’s Best-Selling Sports Coupe title for the fourth straight year. Ford announced the news on the eve of its 55th anniversary that sales in Europe went up by more than 27% so far in 2019 and its market share increased by half a point for 2018 over the previous year, reaching 15.4%. Thanks to the new Bullitt variant, 75,842 units were sold in the U.S. while 2,323 Mustangs found homes in the U.K., representing an increase of 5% over 2017. According to Ford, the Mustang was sold in 146 countries in 2018 and over 500,000 sixth-generation models have been sold globally since 2015. “We broke the mould when Ford launched the Mustang 55 years ago,” said Jim Farley, Ford president of global markets. “Nothing says freedom, the wind in your hair and the joy of driving like Mustang; it’s an icon. The roar of its V8 on a spring day, there’s nothing better. No wonder it’s the most popular sports coupe in the world.” -

Hey everyone, So I’m new to the forum and was wondering what builds you all could suggest to go up against (but hopefully crush) the new 2018 gt and ss 1le. The Chevy runs 4.1 to the fords 4.4 0-60 and both run mid 12 second quarter mile times. I understand both cars are around 50k usd but I’m looking to spend around 40-45k usd. I was looking at maybe importing the gt-r bnr 32 but with costs up to 35k usd that eats up most of the swap/mod budget. I’m looking for something that’s obviously street legal, most importantly reliable, and something I’m not going to have to spend half of a year looking for a specific model/year so something easy to to find with abundant aftermarket support. Thanks!

Hello, seeking for opinions here, I have 250k budget and looking for a coupe. I have narrowed my choices down to 2.3l ford mustang and mercedes C300 coupe. Horsepower are quite similar and prices are about +/- 5k. Like mustang for its muscular looks and a less common car on the road. Like mercedes for its badge and interior Some of my life commitments: attached, unlikely to have kids What do you guys think?

If you are into muscle cars, chances are you love racing (or watching races) on a drag strip. Most folks who hang out at the drag strip will tell you that you will need some heat in your tyres to get the tyres to hook up better. So Ford came up with its latest feature, the 'electronic line-lock' to assist the driver in doing burnouts. You may think that burnouts are easy to do but modulating the brakes while letting the driven wheels spin up on the spot is tougher than you imagine (in manual transmission of course). But with Ford Mustang GT's line-lock, all you need to do is to throttle hard. When talking about car rivalry, most enthusiasts will think of Evos versus WRXs or 3 Series versus C-Class. These battles get pretty intense with manufacturers doing their best to be better on the road and on the track. While not really obvious in our local context, Ford's Mustang and Chevrolet's Camaro have been at war with each other since 1966. That said, General Motors maintains that it feels the rivalry is a very healthy one as it is 'driving force for constant improvement'. So with the Ford Mustang's 50th birthday around the corner, General Motors sent a happy birthday card starring the new Camaro Z/28 with the caption - "Here's to another 50 years of rivalry. Your friend, Camaro". We applaud the classy move by Chevrolet!

We know him from his films, but we gearheads also know him as one of us. In October last year, Matt Farah, host of The Smoking Tire, toured the seriously impressive car collection, which serves as a reminder of just what a passionate fan of driving and cars he was. One of the great things about cars is that they offer you a window into who someone is and what they care about. And over the course of this eight-minute video, we get to see what Paul Walker loved about cars. The literally dozens of Saleen Mustangs hint at a love of unpretentious blue collar speed. I was particularly pleased to see how many of the normally unloved Fox body Mustang’s Walker had. Sure, with that money, he could have bought something faster, newer, and sexier. But no, he chose to be interesting. That personality is on display throughout the collection, whether it’s a rare German sports car like the BMW M1, an old school Mercury two door wagon, or the gorgeous but slow Volvo P1800. It seems that Paul Walker loved cars for their souls. But clearly from the three Porsche GT3s that are scarred from going to war on the track, we know that these cars weren’t simply owned to be looked at. Yes, we should be sad that Mr. Walker is gone, as we should be sad whenever we lose anyone. We should also take a moment, though, to share in something that speaks of passion and joy.

The 2015 Mustang is a significant evolution of the storied "pony car", finally adding independent rear suspension to a platform that until now used an antiquated solid axle setup. ''Rivals'' is the 20th entry in EA's long-running ''Need for Speed'' series. If you're a fan of the Italian supercar brand Lamborghini, well, I believe you must have heard of the Urus, the SUV the Italian automaker is planning to build by 2016. It looks aggressive and attractive. However, you aren't likely to get your hands on one, at least not until 2016 at the earliest, even if you have the amount of money it demands, which is US$200,000 (approximately S$251,000). But worry not as the Italian automaker's parent company, Volkswagen (VW) has already given the green light for the mass production of the model. At least, that was stated by Rupert Stadler, Chairman of Audi AG, during the gala dinner of the Grande Giro 50th anniversary tour. For those who don't know, the Grande Giro was Lamborghini's celebration of its 50th anniversary which took place just recently. Nevertheless, if you don't think you can wait any longer, a Chinese automaker known as the Sichuan Yema - which means 'Mustang' - may have an interesting offer. The Chinese company is building an SUV with inspiration from the Lamborghini Urus. It seems that the Chinese version of the SUV may be using a platform similar to that of the Austin Rover Maestro. Two years ago, the company, based in Chengdu, South West China, made a purchase on the platform of the Austin Rover Maestro. Then, not long afterwards, the company began using the platform for its production models. However, since it isn't the actual Lamborghini Urus, I would suggest that you do not expect 100 percent similarity between the Chinese and the actual Italian version of the Urus SUV. Well, it isn't that the Chinese one is totally ugly. Looking at the sides, the sloping roof, and also the rear quarters, it does remind me of the actual Urus. However, the headlamps and taillights are kind of different from the real car. In addition to that, it is in your best interest that you do not expect such a powerful engine (potentially a 600bhp V12 engine) as that of the real Urus. Instead, the SUV from the Chinese 'Mustang' will carry a 1.5-litre engine from Japanese automaker Mitsubishi. This engine will help the Chinese version of the Urus to cruise around Chengdu with a total power output of 143bhp and a peak torque of 200Nm. This SUV from Sichuan Yema is the company's latest SUV. Formerly, the company had also announced quite a lot of new models, all of which were SUVs. Just for your information, the licence possessed by Sichuan Yema only allows it to build SUVs. Unfortunately, keeping in mind that the Chinese automaker has never really managed to deliver their cars to the streets, I wonder if the same will happen to this latest Chinese Urus as well. If you want a comparison, the red SUV you can see in the images is the actual Lamborghini Urus SUV from Italy whereas the white one is its Chinese counterpart.

It is a sad moment when the news of an automotive legend passes away. This particular news is hard because it is Carroll Shelby and his name is synonymous with high performance sports and muscle cars, particularly with Ford. 1965 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 He is a true gear head and was the mastermind behind the Shelby Cobra and the Shelby GT500. Carroll Shelby passed away in a Texas hospital with an unknown cause of death. He has been hospitalised for more than a month for pneumonia but he has a known long history of heart problems, including a heart transplant in 1990. Shelby is survived by his three children and his wife. Let us take a look at his illustrious career in the automotive industry. It is rather impossible to describe the impact Shelby has had on the automotive world. Born in 1923, Shelby only started racing in 1952 at the age of 29 and it was a quarter mile drag race. Later that year he won his first road race in an MG TC. By 1956, he had won many races and that earned him the title of Driver of the Year from Sports Illustrated and he won that title again in 1957. Drunken man crashes his US$50,000 Ford Mustang Boss 302

A Wisconsin man decided to flex his newly-acquired beer muscles by testing his newly-acquired track-ready Mustang on a local street. He lost control, hit a Jeep Grand Cherokee and ricochet into a tree. The 35-year-old man now faces charges after he allegedly downed up to ten beers at a cookout, then took his $50,000 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca for a joyride. Police say he was traveling at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour when he went into a spin. The subsequent crash ripped off the driver's side door, and a passenger suffered a compound fracture in his right arm. The Mustang owner's been charged with one count of first offense operating while intoxicated and causing injury, along with one count of reckless driving and causing injury for good measure. He could get two years in jail if he's convicted. -
A few years ago, Brooklyn artist Jonathan Brand sold a 1969 Ford Mustang that he rebuilt with his father to pay for an engagement ring. In his latest work, entitled "One Piece at a Time," he has reconstructed that Mustang, piece by piece, at 1:1 scale, using nothing but paper. Brand mentioned that the American automobile has played a large part in his personal life and his art. His grandfather worked as a millwright at a Detroit car assembly line. His uncles and cousins are mechanics. And he, together with his father, has restored 3 vintage cars. One of those cars, a 1969 Mustang, took him five years to rebuild and has been the inspiration for several of his bodies of work. Below is a photo of the Mustang that he used as a basis for his art work. Brand uses digital drawings as his source and printing the blueprints with a large-format inkjet printer.
