  1. Hi guys, I will be transit in Seoul from US on a return trip to Singapore. I am thinking to have a stopover in Seoul for 2 nights. Its my first visit to Seoul. Any recommendation for hotel (about S$100~S$120 per night)? Any places of interests should go? I will be staying 2 nights only. Prefer not to travel too far from the city. Thanks in advance!

    Central Java: Free n Easy

There hasn't been any write up on travel to this lesser known area in Indonesia. In fact, only when I was invited to visit my friend's hometown of Semarang, then did I googled about it. The invite came just as Singapore was enveloped in haze last month & was informed by my friend that his hometown is free of it. I brought a box of face masks just in case

  9. I've noticed some threads being closed because a particular topic or news link has already been posted in another thread. Most of the time, it's really obvious which thread it is, but sometimes it isn't. That little news link could be submerged in a gargantuan thread dealing with some other topic entirely. Case in point: http://www.mycarforum.com/topic/2696504-singaporean-in-worlds-top-10-earning-pastors-list/ That thread was closed because that post had apparently already been made in another thread. I wanted to follow up on this discussion. So I skimmed through the Lite and EZ subforum. Nothing obvious caught my eye. So I still don't know which thread had that particular discussion going. I even went as far as to do a search for "pastor". I feel that I should never have had to do this just to follow a supposedly current topic that should've stood out on the forum index, but I did it anyway. Here are the results of the search:http://www.mycarforum.com/index.php?RPG=&app=core&DIS=&module=search&do=quick_search&req=&search_app=forums&search_content=titles&fullsearch=all&search_term=pastor None of the search results save the locked thread have a newer post than late 2013, meaning that they couldn't be referencing a brand new news article. So I'm left wondering which thread the mod was thinking about. Here are my gentle suggestions for our dear moderators: 1) Please go easy on closing threads as "duplicates". It's fine if it's an obvious dupe, but something as subtle as this, where the topic might be buried in another thread that started out discussing something else, is less clear-cut. Closing every single thread that *might* have *some* echo in another thread becomes oppressive if taken too far. 2) Even if you close, *please* link to the thread, or even better, the *actual post* (especially if buried in a large thread) that started out discussing the duplicate post topic. 3) And finally, wherever possible, *merge* rather than *close*. I understand there may be forum software limitations that hinder this, but if it's doable, then merging is far preferable to closing, especially when posters have taken pains to construct an argument about something to get the discussion going (behaviour we should be encouraging, rather than just having them link and submit). I hope my suggestions are taken in the positive way they were intended. I have been a moderator on international fora before, so I do speak from experience. I am aware of the challenges facing moderators everyday - frankly, it's a thankless task - but having a lighter touch can do wonders for the general tenor of the forum.

Free & Easy or Tour Group?

Which is your preferred choice? For her, it is best to go with tour agency in a group for convenience. I think it is better to be on our own to avoid nasty/idiotic people when travelling in a group. Why pay and end up not enjoying the trip? What's your take, bros & sisters?

    Aljunied Town Council

Lim Hwee Hua just fired at Worker's Party regarding sinking funds in Hougang Town Council Now, let's go back in 2008 and see what they did in Aljunied. With S$84 million in sinking funds, they increase S&CC. They had S$44 million invested with fund managers, could it be that they loss $$$ in investments which is why they increase S&CC? Lim Hwee Hua, why not you open your accounts and show us how much was loss then? Did they increase S&CC because Aljunied was a slum for being the dirtiest precinct? Aljunied Town Council

IMH Patient No Easy Pushover ........

Who say IMH patient are easy pushover ........ CNA latest : Senior staff nurse at IMH convicted for cheating a patient A senior staff nurse at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) was convicted on Monday morning in a district court for cheating a patient of S$2,000. On 8 January 2009, Mong Kok Peng was helping a patient change into his attire when the patient showed him two S$1,000 notes. The patient told Mong that he had kept the money with him instead of registering it with IMH staff as he was afraid the money would be lost. Mong then told the patient he would keep the S$2,000 for safekeeping with IMH. Throughout the day, the patient asked Mong four times about the money. Mong told him the money had been registered and will be returned once he was discharged. The next day, Mong, 34, went to the Singapore Turf Club to spend the $2,000 on horse racing. While he was gambling, his colleagues called him saying the patient was about to be discharged and wanted to see him about the money. He denied being shown the money but his offence was later discovered. He will appear in court again on June 14. - CNA/vm Now who is laughing at who .......
