  1. Expects delay in iPhone5 second batch delivery ..... Massive brawl at Apple supplier's factory About 5,000 police officers are called to stop the fight involving 2,000 workers at the Chinese plant. Yahoo report : Foxconn plant closed in China after workers brawl A Foxconn factory in China, which assembles Apple's iPhones, has shut down for an indeterminate period after about 2,000 workers were involved in a brawl at a dormitory. The plant was closed Monday and it is not clear how long the shutdown will last. Foxconn said the trouble started with a personal fight that blew up into a brawl. But some people said they had heard factory guards had beaten workers, sparking the uproar. These accounts could not be independently verified. The unrest is the latest in a string of incidents at plants run by Foxconn. The company has faced accusations of poor working conditions and mistreatment of workers at its operations in China, where it employs about 1 million people. Authorities told Foxconn that about 40 people were taken to hospital and a number were arrested. link : http://sg.news.yahoo.com/video/foxconn-pla...-155204421.html
  2. Beginning of the end of good times??? IBM is expected to go through a massive reorg next month that will reportedly see 26% of its 430,000-strong work force let go, or 111,800 people. If that figure holds true, that would make it far and away the largest corporate layoff event in history, breaking the record previously held by IBM, when it cut 60,000 in 1993. The problem is a complex mess of bad management – like laying off important people in the middle of a project – to getting sidetracked with pie-in-the-sky ideas like commercializing Watson and failing to adjust to the new era. The "M" in IBM may mean machines, but hardware is less than 10% of its business. Two-thirds is in services, and the services pipeline has dried up. Why? Well, according to an ex-IBMer I spoke to some time ago, who confirmed what Cringely wrote in his book, IBM is still wedded to services contracts in an age where companies are shutting down their internal data center entirely and moving everything to the cloud. If you don't have a data center, you don't need an IBM service contract to manage it. That's why IBM grabbed Softlayer, the cloud services provider. It needed to get into the cloud fast because it was behind Microsoft, Google and Amazon. Since the purchase 18 months ago, IBM has put a huge amount of money into SoftLayer and there has been a number of announcements around SoftLayer services. Cringely said the mainframe and storage areas will see deep cuts, which is pretty stupid considering IBM announced the new Z13 mainframe and hopes it will stimulate sales. That won't be easy when you cut the people who are supposed to sell it. Cutting storage is also foolish, as we are in the era of Big Data and Data Lakes and storage is vital to these concepts. And you have to wonder what a layoff of 110,000 people will do to the firm. That has to be jarring. I remember an old advertisement from the print days that said "What's worse, getting laid off on a Friday or being told to pick up the slack on the following Monday?" This will be undeniably upsetting to the survivors, who will likely spend time updating their LinkedIn profiles. The question I have to ask is why isn't Rometty one of the 110k. IBM has seen 11 straight quarters of declining revenue and it's hemorrhaging customers, according to both my source and Cringely. It's becoming apparent she is not up for the job and can't pull the company out of its nose dive. Cringely said the layoffs will begin next week and by the end of February, all of the employees will be gone. If nothing else, IBM's first quarter numbers will take a monstrous hit from the severance packages for 111,000 employees. To say nothing of what this will do to its customer confidence.
  3. oddly familiar!!! but as we all know, thats how china culture is. just like how they have the cities of replicas. they have replica of paris, london.. and now our famed mbs spaceship. but instead of 3 towers like ours, they have 4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=emqK3wasEX8 The megacity of Chongqing has added yet another extraordinary piece of architecture to its city skyline with a massive “sky corridor” that stretches across the top of four neighboring skyscrapers. Placed 250 meters above the ground, the 300-meter-long corridor is the most eye-catching part of the Raffles City Chongqing complex that is currently under construction at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers. The complex has been designed by renowned Italian-Canadian architect Moshe Safdie who is also known for doing something similar with the design of the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Once it’s completed, the corridor will serve as a viewing deck while also boasting an infinity pool, sky gardens, and various eateries.

  5. http://www.autoblog.com/2015/06/25/ford-focus-rs-345-horsepower-video-official/#image-1 When Ford revealed the new Focus RS at the Geneva Motor Show, it promised it would deliver "well in excess of 315 horsepower." It didn't say exactly how much that would come to, but now it has. On the eve of its dynamic debut at the hands of Ken Block at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Ford has confirmed that its new hot hatch will pack 350 metric horsepower. Those reaching for their calculators will find that works out to 345 horsepower by our standards. The power output is backed up by 324 pound-feet of torque, capable of being boosted up to 347 for up to fifteen seconds at a time. Those figures come from a retuned version of the same 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo four as the one available in the Mustang, but produces over ten percent more power thanks to a new turbocharger, upgraded intake and exhaust, and a larger radiator. All that muscle will be channeled to all four wheels through Ford Performance's new all-wheel drive system with dynamic torque vectoring, launch control, and selectable drive modes, including a Drift Mode that (as you can see from the video below) allows the hot hatch to get more than a little sideways. Ford still isn't saying what those specs will translate to in terms of measurable performance figures, but as far as output goes, things are looking pretty good. The 30th Ford RS model already packs more power and torque than the new Honda Civic Type R (306 hp, 295 lb-ft), Volkswagen Golf R (292 hp, 280 lb-ft), Subaru WRX STI (305 hp, 290 lb-ft) or the Nürburgring-conquering Renault Mégane 275 Trophy-R (271 hp, 266 lb-ft) and Seat Leon Cupra (276 hp, 258 lb-ft). It even respectably holds its own against the more upscale BMW M235i (320 hp, 330 lb-ft), Mercedes A45/CLA45 AMG (355 hp, 332 lb-ft), and Audi RS3 (362 hp, 343 lb-ft). Whether it'll outshine them all in real-world conditions remains to be seen, but we're looking forward to finding out whenever Ford deems fit to drops those performance stats on us.
  6. SEOUL: South Korea's military on Sunday pursued a massive manhunt near the tense border with North Korea for a soldier who shot dead five comrades in a rare shooting incident. The army sergeant, surnamed Lim, opened fire on other soldiers at a guard post on the eastern section of the heavily guarded inter-Korea border Saturday night. The shooting spree left five dead and seven injured -- all members of Lim's own unit at the 22nd infantry division in the western province of Gangwon. He ran off with a K2 assault rifle and a stash of ammunition, a military spokesman said. Another official told AFP that Lim was due to be discharged in the next few months after completing his compulsory military service. The army issued its highest state of alert in nearby areas and launched a huge search involving thousands of soldiers and police, who set up roadblocks and inspected vehicles. "A manhunt is underway to find him as early as possible and to prevent another incident from taking place," defense ministry spokesman Kim Min-Seok told reporters. The army has formed a special team to investigate the incident, he said, adding that the wounded soldiers are in a stable condition. "We have deployed as many troops as possible to the search operations and to block possible escape routes," Colonel Roh Jae-Chun, a spokesman for the operation, told reporters. The military is also closely monitoring the border with the North to prevent Lim from fleeing to the North, Yonhap news agency said, quoting an army official. The 22nd infantry division was the scene of a bloody shooting in 1984, when a private opened fire and threw a grenade at barrack mates, killing 15. Cho Jun-Hee then crossed the border to defect to the North, a move which Pyongyang's state media later confirmed. The site of Saturday's shooting is located just south of the demilitarised zone (DMZ) -- a buffer strip that runs the full length of the 250-kilometre (155-mile) frontier. The four-kilometre-wide DMZ -- known as the world's last Cold War frontier -- features guard posts manned by the rival armies, barbed wire and roads bisecting minefields. Because the 1950-53 Korean War ended with a ceasefire rather than a peace treaty, the two Koreas technically remain at war. Many of the South Korean soldiers on border duty are young male recruits doing their mandatory, two-year military service. These young men make up a large part of the South's 691,000-strong troop presence, compared to 1.17 million in the North. But bullying and cruelty in the barracks have long overshadowed the armed forces, and have been blamed for many fatal incidents in the military. In July 2011, a 19-year-old Marine doing his military service killed four colleagues in a shooting spree on Gangwha island near the border. He tried to kill himself with a grenade but survived. He later said he acted after being bullied. In June 2005, eight soldiers were killed and two seriously wounded when a 22-year-old conscript threw a grenade and sprayed bullets over sleeping colleagues at a frontline guard post north of Seoul. In both those cases the men were court martialed and sentenced to death, although the penalty was not carried out. The military has in recent years taken steps including a ban on beating to tackle what it called a "distorted military culture." - AFP/ir http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asiapacific/massive-manhunt-for-s/1190490.html
  7. 4 car accident outside NP. only 1 lane is passable
  8. Accident on lane 2 and 3 involving 2 Toyota Crown taxis, 1 Toyota Hiace van and a motorcycle. 2 ambulances at the scene. One of the taxis on lane 3 had its front severely damaged. The other taxi on lane 2 has its rear left side damaged. The van on lane 3 has its rear damaged and saw the motorcycle stuck below the van. Seems a pretty bad accident. Only lane 1 is passable.
  9. It's out of the question that we would normally use a sedan to carry four to five passengers altogether, probably with some goods in the trunk. However, this isn't the case this time. Instead of carrying passengers and 'some' goods, this sedan - which I think is a Hyundai Accent or Verna - was forced to carry a massive amount of goods. This sedan was seen being a carrier for massive goods last weekend on the Korean border, near Panmunjom, Paju. It was driven by a South Korean citizen trying to go back to his home country. As you can see from the images, the goods nearly covered all parts of the sedan. The goods even nearly, if not completely, covered the rear windshield. How was the driver supposed to see when he needed to reverse the car then? The driver was reported to be previously working in North Korea. However, as we know, the rising tension between the two countries has forced all workers from South Korea to return home. In total, there are 175 South Korean citizens that have been asked to leave North Korea. Most of those asked to leave previously worked in joint ventures of North and South Korea. Since they have to evacuate immediately, they have had to make do with whatever transport they can find. Well, it seems that the Hyundai in the image was just unlucky enough. However, it wasn't alone as there were also other sedans which received the very same fate. I wonder, though, if the suspensions of those sedans received any damage at all. You see, if the suspensions retain their good working conditions after reaching their destinations, these sedans might in fact be some of the strongest sedans automakers have ever built!
