Siaolang many many SINGAPORE – A 59-year-old taxi driver and his seven-year-old son were injured when a man hurled a rock at the cab’s windshield on Dec 10 evening. The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it was alerted to the incident near 201 Boon Lay Way at about 7.50pm and two people were taken to National University Hospital. The taxi driver, who wanted to be known only as Mr Chen, told Shin Min Daily News that the attack took place at about 7.20pm. He was taking his son out for dinner at the time, the Chinese-language evening newspaper reported on Dec 11. As he was driving towards Boon Lay Way in Yuan Ching Road, Mr Chen said he saw a man who looked to be in his 50s or 60s trying to stop a private bus by waving his arms. But the bus drove past him. The man seemed to be in a security guard’s uniform and was carrying a backpack, Mr Chen said, adding that the man held an object in his hand. As Mr Chen drove past the man, he suddenly reached out to yank at the taxi door even though Mr Chen gestured that he was not taking passengers, Shin Min reported. The man looked very angry. It seemed like he was shouting and he looked very fierce,” the cabby said. The man then threw the object he was holding at the taxi. Mr Chen said he and his son were shocked by a loud noise and saw that a rock the size of a fist had shattered the rear windshield. Their hands and feet were cut by the broken glass, he added. The man ran away immediately, Shin Min reported. This shock announcement was made by the National Environment Agency on May 5, 2020. NEA said the hawker centre will only be reopen sometime in the second half of 2021 after the exit of the current operator, Hawker Management. Hawker Management, an enterprise under Koufu described as "socially-conscious", will not renew its three-year contract with NEA when it expires on Aug. 6. NEA is seeking a new operator and will carry out potential renovation work in the interim. Not ideal performance standards Hawker Management said its "ideal performance standards" were not met. The company said results did not meet our ideal performance standards despite Hawker Management's efforts. "Following HM's (Hawker Management) appointment as the operator of JWHC in 2017, HM had seen to be putting in the necessary resources to bring vibrancy to Jurong West Hawker Centre and support the local hawker trade," the company said in a media release. "Koufu, as a public listed company, has an obligation to safeguard our shareholders’ interests, therefore we have made the difficult decision to exit upon expiry of the contract in August 2020 to focus efforts on other aspects of our business." Hawker Management said it remains committed to managing the hawker centre until the end of the contract term. Rental waivers It added that it will provide rental waivers for stallholders from June until Aug. 6, the end of stallholders' tenancy. It will also offer a S$1,000 relocation fee to eligible stallholders. NEA and Hawker Management said they will help stallholders relocate to available stalls at existing hawker centres and markets managed by NEA, or to coffee shops and food courts run by Koufu. Existing stallholders will be offered to return to Jurong West Hawker Centre when it is ready, said NEA. This is on top of the government's three-month rental waiver as part of the Resilience Budget. NEA said it will conduct a request for proposal to seek new ideas from operators to improve the two-storey hawker centre and market. The agency said it will conduct conduct public consultations to gather ideas and suggestions from the community. The hawker centre has been badly hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. There are about 10 stalls in operation now.

Three men, aged 19 to 22, had allegedly robbed the unit of about S$48,000, preliminary investigations showed. A fourth man, 26, was believed to have disposed of the knife used in the robbery. “One of the men allegedly pointed a knife at a female staff, pulled her hair and demanded her to hand over the money in the unit,” the police said in a statement. The men then dragged her into a room before fleeing with the cash. The police did not name the unit, but Chinese news site 8World on Thursday reported that OT Credit, a money lender located at Block 135, Jurong Gateway Road, was robbed that afternoon. The police said on Friday that they were alerted to the case at 4.15pm on Thursday and have been able to recover about S$30,000. “Efforts are underway to recover the rest of the loot,” the police said. The four men will be charged in court on Saturday with armed robbery with hurt. If found guilty, they could be jailed at least five years and caned a minimum of 12 strokes. Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Marc E said: “The men involved in the armed robbery displayed an egregious disregard of the law. The police will spare no effort in pursuing such criminals to bring them to justice.”

Now this is one heartening sight! Our local police force is working hard to catch bad-behaving vehicles on our roads! Seen on SG Road Vigilante is this video of an unmarked Traffic Police vehicle zooming up fast on the AYE towards Tuas to catch a motorbike on 13th of December 2020. We can't really see why the bike was being stopped but according to the source, it is a Malaysian-registered bike with a mini rear number plate. While having such a number plate is an offence in our sunny island, we thought the police might also be catching the biker for a speeding offence or having a loud exhaust. As for the rest of us, we now know when you see a white Mazda 3, it might not be a Private Hire Vehicle but an Unmarked Traffic Police car! -
Big Box opened today! Yes, today, 27 Dec 2014. Big Box is a warehouse retail mall, located very near to Jurong East MRT station. We decided to go check it out. It was crowded! True to its name, it felt like a huge warehouse. The most interesting was the hypermarket on the ground floor, selling goods in a warehouse concept. Were the stuff sold at the hypermarket cheap? Not really. Some things seem a bit cheaper than say NTUC, but overall the prices were comparable. But I could be wrong. We didn't spend a lot of time in the hypermarket. There was also huge space devoted to the sale of furniture on the 2nd the 3rd floor. It felt like Big Box wanted to compete directly with the likes of Ikea in this respect. This was the first day of opening and things were still a bit messy. Still, this place is an interesting addition to the retail scene. Check out the video. http://youtu.be/cdulBMKBLlE

This is why we should always park properly. We were alerted to someone's posts on his facebook page, showing a BMW X6 XDrive35i badly parked at Jurong Point Shopping Center. Like what the photos show, the netizen who is presumed to be driving the Toyota Altis that is parked beside, barely had space to squeeze into his lot. The large BMW SUV had kind of edged into the page owner's lot causing him to be quite pissed. By parking badly, and of course no thanks to the Altis driver, the BMW owner will be having lots of difficulty getting into his car. So What do you guys think of this? Is it fair to 'punish' the BMW driver who ill-parked? Or do you think the BMW driver had made an honest mistake as it simply wanted to be further away from the lorry beside it?

For most owners who are into cars, they will tend to want to meet owners who own the same car/model as themselves. Hence from time to time, we will see many brand/model-based car clubs gather at places like the indoor stadium to chat and get to know more about their cars. However, we are kind of sure these Volkswagen drivers in the video below won't be friends anytime soon... Uploaded on ROADS.sg, we can see a Volkswagen Golf coming from the opposite direction before colliding straight on with the camera car (a Volkswagen Jetta). The accident happened on the morning of 22nd of April at the PIE interchange between Jurong Town Hall Road and Bukit Batok Road. There were no reports as of press time of what caused the Golf owner to drive into the opposite lane. We hope he did not faint or suffer a heart attack, causing him to lose control of his car. We did noticed the Scirocco (yes, another Volkswagen) moving away from danger as the Golf came closer. Good reflexes dude. With everyone encouraged to stay home due to the ongoing coronavirus , life must be quiet dull for most. However, we are pretty sure the motorcyclist at the traffic light didn't find his last friday bland at all... 92a4c569-89c1-4c7c-81f8-f298494e1650.MP4 Shot in an unknown heavy vehicle, the footage clearly shows a wild white truck doing a quick lane change at a traffic junction that has just turned red along Jurong Town Hall Road. From the video, we thought the poor biker would be bulldozed by the truck but amazingly, the truck managed to avoid crashing into it! Seconds later, viewers can see a police car coming to a stop abruptly with its tyres screeching on the bottom of the video, suggesting to us that the white truck might have been running away from the cops. According to the comments on Complaint Singapore, the police were apparently trying to arrest the driver in the truck and this was a drug-related case. Maybe more should heed this netizen's comment whereby it is better to stop in front of a vehicle that has already come to a complete stop at the lights... -
Two suspected drug offenders have been arrested for the possession of a loaded pistol, which was found by police and Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers. In a press conference on Wednesday (Oct 9), CNB and police said they have arrested two men, aged 24 and 25, in a joint operation held on Tuesday and Wednesday. Superintendent Aaron Tang, CNB's director of intelligence division, said the agency had acted on information that the two suspects were involved in "illicit drug activities" and were in possession of firearms. The police were called in for assistance, and officers from both agencies arrested the 24 year-old in the vicinity of Jurong West Street 72 on Tuesday. The pistol, which was loaded with four bullets, was found in his unit along with four spare bullets, said the police and CNB. The second man was arrested at about 2.25am on Wednesday in Woodlands Street 13 after further investigations revealed that he knowingly remained in the company of the first man, despite being aware of the firearm. No drugs were found on the two, and results of their urine analysis are pending. Superintendent Daniel Wong, deputy head of the special investigation services in the Criminal Investigation Department, said there is nothing to indicate the gun has been fired in Singapore. Both suspects are Singaporeans and are acquaintances, he added. The authorities declined comment on the origins of the firearm - believed to be a Seahawk pistol - or what its intended purpose was. This is understood to be the first case since 2009 involving the illegal possession of firearms. The two men will be charged in court on Thursday. Investigations are ongoing. If found guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm, both suspects could be jailed for at least five years and given at least six strokes of the cane.

Construction on Jurong Region Line to start next year

Construction works for five stations on the new Jurong Region Line (JRL) are expected to start next year and slated for completion in 2026. The five stations are Choa Chu Kang, Choa Chu Kang West, Tengah, Hong Kah and Corporation, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said yesterday. The authority has awarded two contracts worth $739.5 million to construct the five MRT stations. The stations will form part of JRL, Singapore's seventh MRT line, which is set to open in three stages from 2026. Comprising 24 stations, the line was announced last year to improve connectivity in the Jurong area, with the aim of boosting the area's transformation into a second Central Business District. -

A bit confused with the pricing thou....... free entry, why not just make it fully free?

Loud explosions heard, thick smoke seen as fire breaks out in Jalan Buroh in Jurong SINGAPORE - Several loud explosions were heard as a fire broke out in Jurong on Friday (June 21). In a Facebook post, the Singapore Civil Defence Force said it had been alerted to a fire at 43 Jalan Buroh and that firefighting operations were ongoing. "SGSecure mobile app users of M1, StarHub and Singtel who are within the immediate vicinity of the fire incident would have received an advisory message urging them and members of public to stay away from the affected area," the post added. Reader Linda Cheng, 29, who lives in Boon Lay Avenue, told The Straits Times that she heard the loud explosions from her home around 5.20pm. She took several videos of the area from which the sounds were heard, which showed thick smoke coming from a building in the distance. There was also a strong burning smell in the area, she said. "We thought the loud explosions were thunder, until we saw the thick smoke," Ms Cheng said. Another eyewitness,who only wanted to be known as Mr Poh, told ST that he noticed the fire around 5pm. "I heard about 10 to 20 loud explosions," he said, adding that the explosions stopped after a while. "The fire looks to be under control, but there's still a lot of black smoke," he told ST at around 5.50pm. Mr Anthony Tai, who works in the logistics line, said he was at his home on Yuan Ching Road, about 4km away, when he heard multiple loud explosions shortly after 5pm. "I could see large, dark smoke from my window on the 10th floor," said the 63-year-old. A reader, who wanted to remain anonymous, took several videos of the fire from 47 Jalan Buroh, which is located across the road. There were people running out of the warehouse building when the fire started, he said. Photos circulating online showed the smoke could be seen from as far away as Jurong East, about 7km away.

I have not been to Jurong Point for a while or rather since Jem and West Gate were up. Today, I visit the once busy shopping centre and was not only surprise, I am very disappointed. I writing this in the hope the management will do something or the NEA should. At level 1 atrium, there were many F&B outlets. I was trying to book a table and when they usher me towards the table, I was very shock. The table and those around me were full of houseflies. How on earth could an air conditioned shopping centre be in this condition and no action taken? I do hope this is just today (from the expression of the staff, it seems normal) and they offer me a seat inside the shop instead of the atrium. I still see one or 2 houseflies around but lesser.

Chemist who died in Jurong fire a 'bubbly, lovely girl' who lost her mum at a young age Ms Lim Siaw Chian, 30, died in a fire that broke out at gas manufacturing firm Leeden national Oxygen on Oct 12, 2015. Aw Cheng Wei SINGAPORE - The woman who died in the Jurong fire on Monday (Oct 12) had grown up without a mother. Now, her infant daughter will grow up without her mother, too. Chemist Lim Siaw Chian, 30, died in a fire that broke out at Leeden National Oxygen, a gas manufacturing firm. Of the seven others who were injured, three remain hospitalised, the Manpower Ministry said in an update. The remaining four were discharged on Tuesday. The ministry also said investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing. It has also issued a stop-work order for the production and bottling of hydrocarbons, and the buying and selling of bottled gases stored in the area adjacent to the lab where the fire broke out. Ms Lim, a Malaysian who became a Singapore citizen only a month ago, had returned to work after her maternity leave one week before the fire. She was married for about two years, said her family members, who were at the mortuary next to the Singapore General Hospital on Tuesday morning. She leaves behind her husband and six-month-old daughter. Ms Lim had lost her own mother to kidney failure 22 years ago. Her mother was also 30 years old when she died, her family said. She thought the cost of living here was quite high. He added that she could have changed her mind as Singapore holds a special meaning to her. She had studied and worked in Singapore since a young age. "She met her husband, who is also from Malaysia, in university here," Mr Gay said. Ms Lim's husband, who is now a Singapore citizen, was also at the mortuary on Tuesday morning, along with his parents. He was distraught and did not speak to the media. Ms Lim, who lived with her husband in Jurong West, had been working at Leeden National Oxygen for more than a year. Previously, she did food testing at another company. Her remains will be sent back to her hometown of Senai in Johor on Tuesday evening, said Mr Gay. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday.
