The personal details of some 40,000 job applicants have been leaked online, following a cyber attack on an employment agency here. Protemps Employment Services, which has an office at Paya Lebar Square, had its entire server swiped and deleted earlier this month. The personal details of about 40,000 people who submitted job applications to the company have since been uploaded online. The details include scans of their identity cards or passports, their phone numbers, salaries, jobs and home addresses. Most of the job seekers appeared to be Singaporean. The hackers, known as Desorden Group, said they were behind the attack on Oct 4, boasting about their heist on hacking forums on Oct 7. They made a video showing the stolen files and databases, with a message to Protemps, saying they had stolen all the files from the server and had wiped it clean. It also came with a warning for Protemps to "think carefully". The video is believed to have been sent to Protemps along with a ransom note. Helping my buddy on selecting a maid now Are all maid agency the same? I went to Katong SC, so many maid agencies there, and also dunno which on to go in.... Hi all, I would like to know if anyone of you all seen this maid employment: Upview, recently? The shop at Bukit Timah had closed down, and had informed me that Hougang branch is operating. When ask my relative to go down and look for it today, (since he is staying opposite), happened to find out that the shop is no longer there and a hair salon had taken over the premises. I just wondering if anyone seen this maid agency in these few weeks.

De Luna Noriza Dancel is the first agent to be convicted as the principal offender since the revised Employment Agencies Act came into effect in April 2011. She was also fined S$2,500 under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act (EFMA) for employing her Filipino husband, Caladiao William Tolentino, who was without a valid work pass. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said De Luna was issued a licence in July 2010 to operate the RSD Consultancy & Services employment agency. While still engaged as director of RSD, she set up another agency with William, without obtaining a licence for it. She engaged William, who was then in Singapore on a social visit pass, to run the unlicensed agency. He assisted her by posting job advertisements, sourcing for prospective employers and employees, and collecting agency fees. De Luna's licence for her first agency expired in July last year, but was not renewed as she was being investigated by MOM for operating the unlicensed agency. MOM said despite being under investigation, she continued with her unlicensed agency activities, and even set up a third agency, again without a valid licence. The group of ten tourists said they were expecting an agency staff to meet them at the airport, and provide information about their hotel and trip arrangements. However, no one showed up. One of the tourists, Charlotte Lee, said: "The whole team waited for him for about two hours. And then he miraculously picked up our call at around 10:10. His first response was, 'Why aren't you on the plane?' How can we get on the plane when we don't have any details at all? Like, are we going to be stranded in China? I think that was the biggest concern we had." They said they were told to board the plane at 11am and that trip details would be sent to them via SMS. But they decided not to, and came to the travel agency for answers. Police arrived at the scene shortly after noon and asked the group to move their bags away from the agency's front door. The agency then proposed an afternoon flight to Shanghai, which the group did not take up. Jonathan Tan, Manager of SA Tours, said: "We arranged for a staff to be at the airport to assist. He would not affect the trip at all, actually. Because our staff was not there to help, the group totally lost confidence in the company, and abandoned the tour by their own choice." Can research the destination and places of interest on the internet. Can book flights and hotel online. Once at the destination, can rent a car, book taxi, or take public transport to get around. Even better if that country has English speakers and signage. Everything is OTOT Why sign up for some tour package where you must depart at 8am, shuffle to a different hotel every night and bring you to get chop carrot every day?

Was watching the Channel U news a few minutes ago. There is a tour agency in Chinatown who cheated customers by receiving cash but issued fake air-tickets. The customers only managed to discover this fraud when they were at the airport. Besides losing the money, some customers have left their passports with the lady boss. Apparently, this China-national lady boss has fled back to China with the money, leaving the husband in Singapore to take the rap.

My current Indo maid is due to return home by end of this month, now I'm headache as which maid agency to go to for a new maid, any good recommendation? - I was quoted S$588 as package fee (for experience maid with 1 free replacement within a year) by my current maid's agency, think it's abit expensive but don't know whether it is a norm for this kind of fee? - Heard so much horror stories about maids (equally about the employers), so we're extra careful in picking a right maid as we both husband and wife are working, so need to leave the children with the maid during daytime(for a small family of four 2 adults + 2 yr-old boy + 1 new born), what are your criteria in maid selection (my current one is recommended by the agency)? Hi would appreciate if any ad agency people can give me the inside view on the following questions 1) What are the prospects like in this industry - when i say prospects i mean potential earnings relative to other sectors like say marine and etc (i know cannot compare with eg banking) 2) long hours - are they subject to just junior staff or is this a reality at senior mgmt. 3) heard that you will always be on the receiving end taking sxxt from clients - is this true or not, and that no matter what you do often it will not be good enough no matter what. 4) is there a good chance to jump to say marketing departments with ad agency experience, heard from an acquaintance that despite ten years experience he cant jump cos the client side look for industry experience and not just advertising experience, how true is this (of course there are isolated cases but i am asking generally.) thanks in advance cos an opportunity just came up.
