  12. Hi all, need some advice. I got into an accident just now but the other party refuse to provide his NRIC but provided his handphone number. We agreed verbally to settle ourselves, he will fix his own car and i will fix mine, without involving insurance as premium will be higher. Should I go and make a police report and detail down our conversation and forward the report to the insurance so that in future, the other party will not be able to make a claim from me? If i do that, will the insurance be higher next year?
  13. Dun Flame me, I'm just checking if I can inform the neighbourhood police to provide "extra" patrolling service around my HDB area? if lets say, there's nobody home for a short period of time of one week when I'm going overseas. If they do, anyway to notify them(call NPC?, online notification?) as I've checked S'pore Police Force website and apparently there dun seem to have such service.
  14. i know reporter like to publish controversial story but what about miss lin, the student. what's in her mind when she do this interview ? can't believe she study in ntu, she must be a 'genius'. Mum and dad will provide... Miss Lin says she has never once run out of spending money. -- ST PHOTO: CHEW SENG KIM For 20-year-old undergraduate Agnes Lin, the recession could just be academic. The Nanyang Technological University first-year student has never been in need: She carries a $2,000 Louis Vuitton handbag to school and uses only Shiseido cosmetic and skincare products. She carries around the latest mobile phone and goes on overseas vacations with her friends where she would bust $1,000 on shopping alone. Twice monthly, she shops at her favourite stores - Topshop, Zara and Forever21. Mum, a private tutor, and Dad, a businessman selling polythene bags, pay for her expenses. Miss Lin is aware that Singapore faces a recession but the news does not bother her. She said: 'I think it is okay for me to maintain my current lifestyle. I may be spending a little bit more than my friends but I don't think I'm overspending.' At the moment, she has her eyes on the latest mobile phone in the market, the HTC Touch Pro, which costs about $700. Although her mother has said 'no' to her buying yet another mobile phone, Ms Lin has an inkling she will still get it. 'I think my mum will still buy it for me. My birthday is coming up!' she said with a giggle. She confessed that since young, she has never run out of cash. Her parents give her money whenever she asks. Since she was 16, her monthly pocket money has been $500. She has an older brother, also an undergraduate. The family live in a four-room flat in Marine Parade. She thinks a friend of hers, who is left with $20 to last until the end of the month, is silly to consider taking up a part-time job to earn some extra cash. 'I don't understand why she cannot just ask her parents for money,' sighed Miss Lin. She will enter the working world only after three years but she is already planning ahead. With her first pay packet, she will buy a $4,000 Chanel bag. 'After that, I will probably get more bags and watches,' she added.

  17. SPC to provide compressed natural gas station Posted: 04 August 2007 0035 hrs Photos 1 of 1 Dr Amy Khor SINGAPORE: Singapore Petroleum Company (SPC) is likely to be the first petrol company here to provide compressed natural gas (CNG). Authorities are also working with other petrol companies to encourage them to supply CNG. This was revealed by Senior Parliamentary Secretary Amy Khor from the Environment and Water Resources Ministry at the launch of the Energy Smart Hotel Label Scheme by the National Environment Agency (NEA) on Friday. The country's first-ever CNG refuelling station that is accessible to the public is expected to start running by next January. The new CNG station will be located at Mandai Road, just off the Woodlands Road junction. Smart Automobile, which runs Singapore's first and largest fleet of CNG taxis, will build and operate the station. NEA has been checking out hotel premises to single out those which have gone the extra green mile and four of them have been chosen as the first recipients of the new energy label scheme. These four hotels are namely, The Regent, Shangri-la, Intercontinental and Changi Village. Recycling used cooking oil into diesel fuel is one of the initiatives that has propelled The Regent to the top of the list of eco-friendly hotels. Lee Baharrudin, Director of Engineering at The Regent Singapore, said: "We are reducing a lot of waste that is being thrown out by recycling metal, cardboard and even light bulb covers." In its rooms, lights are turned off and curtains drawn to minimise energy consumption. Bottles and newspapers are also collected for recycling. But the hotel's most eco-friendly feature is found in the car park as the boiler system uses energy from air conditioners to heat up the hotel's water tanks, thereby generating zero carbon emissions. Dr Khor said: "Energy efficiency really is a low-hanging fruit in our scheme to promote energy conservation and we think there will be tremendous potential and dividends that we can reap by exploiting this to the max, to encourage greater awareness as well as adoption of energy-efficient measures." The NEA plans to expand its energy label program to include shopping centres and schools
