  1. Hawaii is the Only U.S. State That Commercially Grows CoffeeCoffee tends to grow better at equatorial climates, so you can't really grow coffee in the contiguous United States. Hawaii, however, has an optimal climate for harvesting java beans. Hawaii is known for their Kona coffee which is widely exported and popular around the world. As if people in Hawaii didn't have it good enough, they have some of the world's most beautiful beaches and some of the world's best coffee! Despite what most people think, an espresso has 1/3 the caffeine of a cup of coffee due to serving sizesConsider throwing a double- or triple-shot into your favorite beverage, because just one might not cut it for the more hardcore caffeine addicts. Or you could make a Red Eye- a shot of espresso inside a cup of coffee, or as we like to call it, beanception. Some people actually prefer drinking espresso to drip-coffee or French press for that very reason: you can actually control your own caffeine consumption. So if you're reaching for that late night cup of coffee, try an Americana with 1 shot instead of a whole cup of coffee, you'll sleep much sounder. Brazil is the world's biggest producer of coffee by a wide margin, followed by Vietnam and Colombia In fact, in 2011 Brazil produced nearly twice as much as Vietnam and Colombia combined and a third of all of the coffee produced in the entire world. This statistic has remained fairly constant for the last 150 years! Brazil is also one of the only countries on earth that grows both Arabica and Robusta beans. It should come as no surprise that Brazil is the number one exporter of coffee in the world, and coffee makes up a decent chunk of Brazil's whole economy. It would take around 100 cups of coffee for a lethal dose of caffeineUnimaginable. We get the jitters after just two or three cups, so what would cup 90 feel like? Would we be able to fly and fight crime? Probably not, and we definitely don't recommend trying it out! Most cases of coffee overdose do not come from conventional coffee drinking, but from more, erm, creative ways of consuming coffee, such as coffee enemas. Having that much caffeine in your system could lead to a heart attack or seizure. There Are Two Kinds of BeansThe two kinds of beans are Arabica and Robusta. The have different tastes and different caffeine content; Arabica beans are more popular around the world. In fact, 70% of coffee drank on earth is Arabica. Robusta beans grow in different climates and are found largely in Africa and Indonesia. Although most people prefer the taste of Arabica, Robusta has it's fans, and Robusta beans have twice as much caffeine as Arabica! The drink "Americano" comes from when American GIs in WWII would order their espresso with water because it was too strongSort of funny when you think about how tough soldiers are supposed to be: Asking for your hosts to water down their coffee because it's too strong for you definitely isn't the most rugged of requests! When preparing an Americano, you always pour the hot water on top of the espresso in the glass. If you are instead pouring espresso over hot water you are making a different drink, commonly referred to as a long black. New York drinks about 7 times as much coffee as the rest of the worldWell, they DO call it the city that never sleeps....maybe this is why? You know, New Yorkers, we've heard it helps if you don't drink any coffee after sunset. Just a tip. There's some speculation as to why the Big Apple drinks so much coffee; a lot of it might have to do with population density. Since it is such a packed city, there are literally coffee shops everywhere. It also doesn't hurt that coffee is such a large part of the American culture. Coffee is a Major CommodityIn fact, coffee is the #2 most traded commodity on earth, coming only second to oil! On the NYBOT stock exchange coffee futures are one of the most popular commodities. Coffee consumption is actually great for the developing world, because 90% of coffee farming happens in developing countries, while most coffee is consumed in the developed world. The coffee trade funnels money from richer countries to poor countries. The two most popular beverages on Earth, in order, are water and coffee.Really not that surprising when you think about it. After all, it's hard for everyone to wake up all across the world, isn't it? Coffee has become, in the modern day, a staple of countless cultures worldwide for a variety of reasons. Coffee is also a large part of the world's economy for this reason. This would be alarming if coffee was as bad for you as we used to think, but research now shows that coffee is a healthy habit that people around the world should happily indulge in on a daily basis.
  2. You are in the right section, since it is about auto manufacturer... It is not uncommon for large corporation to venture into businesses that is not directly related to what they are best known for, such as Fujitsu and Hitachi have gone into agriculture business (high tech farming), or for that matter, Nokia started off as a manufacturer of toilet paper, Geely with fridge, etc. For a start, let make a guess what is this item number for, under VW's official part list? 199 398 500 A (siting right between the wiper blades and lug nuts)? Nope, it is not bumper, headlight, engine oil, key chain or stuffed toy, but something edible. And nope, not the coffee or biscuit you had while waiting for your car to be service, but something that is very much popular in western... ... ... ... First created in 1973, Volkswagen has made its own currywurst sausage ever since, and in the process turned it into a symbol of the company throughout Europe. While it’s a staple of the factory cafeterias in Wolfsburg and other European Volkswagen plants for breakfast or lunch, it’s also sold in grocery stores under the “Volkswagen Originalteil” (German for “original parts”) brand. Dealers in Germany often give five-packs of them to customers as gifts. And it’s a huge hit: last year, Volkswagen made 6.8 million currywursts – more than the number of vehicles the VW brand sold worldwide in 2017. What does the VW currywurst taste like? To an American palate accustomed to bratwursts and other sausages typically labeled “sweet” or “hot,” the currywurst walks the broad space in between. There’s a strong yellow curry flavor, but with a kick from the pepper and ginger in the spices. The actual recipe, as devised by the original Volkswagen butchers in 1973, is an official company secret known only to a few people. It’s typically served either intact or chopped into bite-size slices on a paper bowl and drenched in ketchup – preferably the curry-flavored variety also made to Volkswagen’s recipe. Since its inception, the currywurst has been made in-house by Volkswagen employees. Today, about 30 workers, most of them trained butchers, oversee the process at VW’s flagship plant in Wolfsburg. Three times a week, the plant takes in fresh pork from nearby farms and grinds choice cuts into a precise mix. “Our currywurst has a fat content of only 20 percent. Normally, it’s around 35 percent,” explains Head Butcher Franco Lo Presti, who has been making VW currywurst since 1979. After mixing in the spices and packed into casings, the sausages are dried, smoked over beechwood and steamed for 100 minutes at 176 degrees. The final product is weighed, inspected and packaged for shipping to other Volkswagen plans or retailers, with a typical output of 18,000 sausages a day. For those workers who don’t prefer meat, VW has also made a vegetarian variant since 2010. And VW also made their own ketchup...
  3. 17 Surprising Facts About Jackie Chan’s Car Collection source: https://www.thethings.com/surprising-facts-about-jackie-chans-car-collection/ Many of Jackie Chan’s films feature the actor driving around in sick rides. His collection in real life is just as lavish as they are in the movies. Jackie Chan is mostly known for his acting, directing, and martial artists. Throughout his career, Chan has starred in over 150 movies and is also trained in Kung Fu. Chan has garnered a reputation for comic timing and terrifying stunts, which he often completes with dangerous weapons. However, did you know that Chan also has other outlets to keep him satisfied? Chan is also an avid car enthusiast and can often be seen driving frantically in most of his movies. In fact, Chan has a solid collection that rivals some of the best car collections in the world. Here are 17 surprising facts about Jackie Chan's car collection. 17/17 He Owns A Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8 Jackie Chan Special Edition Jackie Chan and Mitsubishi have a special kind of relationship. So much so, that Mitsubishi even named a car after him. Ralliart, a division of Mitsubishi Motors, made only 50 Jack Chan Special Edition Evos, with a starting price of a whopping $77,000. However, they were worth every penny, not to mention exceptionally fast. 16/17 He Has A Batmobile (Sort Of) The Custom Mitsubishi Pajero Turbo might not look pretty but it sure is a great vehicle. In fact, the car was featured in the famed Jackie Chan movie, Armor of God 2: Operation Condor, in which it basically stole the show. The car is famed for resembling a cheap imitation of a Batmobile, with the custom-built rear designed to mimic the notorious superhero. 15/17 He Owns A Lamborghini Murciélago The Lamborghini Murcielago is one of the best Lamborghinis ever to be created, and it should be, considering it's worth a costly $354,000. However, the car does come with two engine variants, most importantly, a 6.2-liter V12 engine, as well as a 6.5-liter V12 engine. Think about it, that's your money right there. 14/17 There Is A Mitsubishi In Most Of His Movies Jackie Chan and Mitsubishi go together like birds of a feather, black and white, and pineapple on a pizza – depending on who you ask, that is. Yes, the two global superstars struck up a deal in the late '70s, which resulted in Chan using only Mitsibushi vehicles in his movies. The deal went on for years until very recently when Chan was spotted driving a Bentley. That's got to hurt. 13/17 He Kept The Car From City Hunter Jackie Chan has starred in some wonderful movies, along with some wonderful car chases. One of his best movies was the action-comedy thriller, City Hunter, based on the Japanese manga of the same name. Chan loved the movie so much that he even kept the car that he used, a twin-turbo V6 Mitsubishi 3000 GT Prototype. 12/17 His Favourite Car Is The Subaru Impreza WRX STI Jackie Chan's favorite car from his collection is said to be his Subaru Impreza WRX STI. And so it should be. The car is a high-performance car that boasts a turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-four engine that produces 305 horsepower. It might not be the most glamorous or fastest car on the block but it sure is reliable and priced at a reasonable (to some) $32,000. 11/17 He Was Caught Driving A Military Car Jackie Chan recently caused controversy when he was spotted getting into a car with military plates while in China. The Chinese government condemned the actor for using such a car to get out of paying tolls and other fees. The act was also called an unnecessary form of extravagance and abuse of wealth. 10/17 He Used To Drive A HKS Starion Turbo The Mitsubishi Starion was a turbocharged four-cylinder, two-door, four-seat hatchback that could most definitely pack a punch. The car was available between 1982 and 1989 and was a firm favorite with Asian gearheads. In fact, the car was one of the first modern Japanese turbocharged vehicles with electric fuel injection. 9/17 He Owns A Racing Team Believe it or not, Jackie Chan also owns a racing team. Jackie Chan DC Racing (formally known as DC Racing) is a racing enterprise that currently races in the FIA World Endurance Championship and Asian Le Mans Series. Chan also owns the team with Asian Le Mans Champion David Cheng. 8/17 His Racing Team Drive An Oreca 07 Jackie Chan DC Racing currently fields an Oreca O7, a Le Mans Prototype built by top car designers, Oreca. The car made its debut in 2017 and has been racing for Chan ever since. Therefore, Chan also technically owns an Oreca 07, especially now that he has driven it and has taken numerous photographs in and around it. 7/17 He Was Gifted A Jackie Chan Edition Lamborghini Aventador Jackie Chan may prefer Mitsubishi, but that doesn't mean that he avoids anything else. That's right, Chan was recently given a special edition Lamborghini Aventador, from Lamborghini themselves. The Jackie Chan edition wasn't any different with regards to performance, but in appearance, it was certainly special. Yes, both the interior and exterior were changed to represent the man himself, with a cool red interior and a white/silver contrasting exterior. 6/17 He Was Gifted A Bentley Mulsanne The world was shocked when Mitsubishi lover, Jackie Chan, partnered with Bentley to make a short film about a high-end chauffeur. Chan played the chauffeur and was gifted a Bentley Mulsanne in return. Now that's a great way to get a free car. 5/17 He Has A 150-Foot Superyacht It might not be a car, but a humungous superyacht is probably worth talking about. Yes, Jackie Chan collaborated with the Chinese Shipyard Jinlong with the end product being that of a 150-foot supership. The project started all the way back in 2017 and after a lengthy two years, it was finally complete and ready to hit the seas. 4/17 His Lamborghini Aventador Jackie Chan Edition Was Auctioned Off For Charity For his 60th birthday, Jackie Chan was gifted his very own personalized Lamborghini Aventador. The car was pretty much untouched with regards to technology and boasted the regular 6.5-liter V12 engine. However, the inside was customized with a red interior along with Nero ade alloy wheels. Chan later auctioned off the car to raise money for the Jackie Chan Charity Fund. What a guy! 3/17 Only 50 Jackie Chan Special Edition Lancer Evo IX Vehicles Exist Ralliart loves nothing more than making cars for Jackie Chan, proving so with yet another Jackie Chan Special Edition Lancer Evo IX Vehicles. Chan did serve as the honorary director of the Chinese Team Ralliart, so I guess that had something to do with all the free cars. Sadly, only 50 of these beauties were ever made. 2/17 He Has An Embraer Legacy 650 Private Jet It might not be a car, but it is probably worth mentioning that Jackie Chan has a private jet in his collection. Yes, Chan is the proud owner of an Embraer Legacy 650. The aircraft cost a whopping $30 million and is painted in the beautiful and symbolic colors of red and yellow. 1/17 He Was The First Customer In China To Buy A Embraer Legacy 500 Private Jet Of course, Jackie Chan has two personal jets, why wouldn't he?! That's right, not only does Chan own an Embraer Legacy 650, he also owns an Embraer Legacy 500, an aircraft that set him back $20 million. Rumor has it that the Legacy 500 is for short trips and the Legacy 650 used for longer distances. Like cars? Come on down to MCF HangOut with Das WeltAuto and take a look at thier latest showroom! 6. 7 Surprising Facts About Caffeine From : Murray Carpenter Most of us have an intimate relationship with caffeine. We crave it, love it, and take it every day in coffee, tea and sodas. It feels quite familiar. But as I researched my bookCaffeinated, I quickly learned that America’s favorite drug held surprises at every turn. Here are seven of them: 1) Coke used to have as much caffeine as Red Bull: For starters, consider energy drinks. Red Bull, Rockstar, Monster and other syrupy sweet, caffeinated drinks are suddenly everywhere. But there is really nothing new about them. As I read through the court papers from a 1911 trial pitting the federal government against Coca-Cola over the caffeine it blended into its products, I was surprised to learn that the early formulation for Coke was far more caffeinated than it is today. An eight-ounce serving had 80 milligrams of caffeine. This is the exact size and caffeine content of a modern Red Bull. Put another way, Coca-Cola pioneered the energy drink concept more than a century ago. The first Red Bull was a Coke. 2) Energy drinks still don’t have as much caffeine as Starbucks coffee: And then I ran into another popular misconception — the idea that these new energy drinks are super-caffeinated. Yes, they pack more of a caffeine punch than colas or teas, but rarely as much as coffee. It is hard to buy a coffee at Starbucks with less caffeine than a Red Bull (perhaps a single shot of espresso, or a mere four ounces of coffee). Even the popular 16-ounce Monsters and Rockstars — they supersize the Red Bull concept, doubling the size and the caffeine content — typically have about 160 milligrams of caffeine. That’s half the amount Starbucks estimates for a drip-brewed grandé. 3) We drink less coffee today, per person, than we did in the 1950s: So yes, we are drinking more energy drinks these days, but coffee culture still rules, right? We’ve got a Starbucks on every corner, it seems, and sometimes two, so we must be sipping more joe than ever. But here’s the weird thing — we drink less coffee than we did in 1950, a lot less. American coffee consumption peaked shortly after World War II, and then plummeted. Meanwhile, soft drinks became Americans’ favorite caffeinated beverages. 4) Nonetheless, coffee still accounts for most of our caffeine intake: But even as we chug more gallons of caffeinated sodas than coffee, we get more of our caffeine from coffee. Because the caffeine is more concentrated in coffee, it still provides two-thirds of the caffeine in our diet. Soft drinks come in second, and tea is in third place. 5) Most tea today is iced: And what about that tea, anyway? Again, it’s the source of a lot of misunderstanding. We typically think of tea as something prepared in a cup, with hot water poured over a tea bag, and sipped hot. But that is an archaic notion. So here’s another little-known fact — iced tea now accounts for 85 percent of the tea consumed in the US. This includes not just the sweet tea that lubricates southern living, but also the fast-growing bottled teas, ranging from Brisk and Nestea to the upscale Honest Tea and Tazo brands. 6) It doesn’t take much to get hooked: Even as our preferences have shifted toward bottled sodas and teas, with their lower caffeine concentrations, research has shown that it does not take much caffeine to develop dependence. And here is another caffeinated surprise — as little as 100 milligrams of caffeine daily is enough to get an adult hooked. That’s about five to eight ounces of coffee, two bags of Lipton tea, or three cans of Coke. At this level of caffeine consumption, most people will experience some symptoms of caffeine withdrawal if they quit abruptly. Symptoms can include lethargy, no surprise, but also irritability and, especially, the classic caffeine withdrawal headache. 7) Caffeine is now being marketed as a hangover cure:Though caffeine can actually trigger headaches in some people, for most of us it is an effective headache therapy. It is bundled into a number of prescription migraine medications, and is a key ingredient in over-the-counter analgesics like Excedrin and Anacin. That’s not too surprising. What is surprising that it is now being marketed specifically to treat a dreaded malady — the hangover headache. For younger hangover sufferers, there are energy drinks like Monster Rehab and Rockstar Recovery, delivering a bit of morning-after caffeine. And Hangover Joe’s takes the basic energy shot formula and packages it for the over-served. Anacin is capitalizing on this with its trademarked slogan: “Great night. Rough morning. Better day.” A century ago, Coca-Cola’s ads read “Tired? Coca-Cola relieves fatigue.” The newer pitches for hangover remedies, like Anacin’s “Got Sharpied?” campaign, suggest caffeine is once again being viewed as a useful tonic. However it is marketed, we, the coffee-chugging, soda-swilling, caffeine-addicted American public, are delighted to buy all of it, to feed our habit and treat our ills. Murray Carpenter is the author of Caffeinated, How Our Daily Habit Helps, Hurts and Hooks Us, recently published by Hudson Street Press.

  9. http://sbr.com.sg/economy/news/here-are-6-...poreans-incomes Here are 6 ugly facts about Singaporeans' incomes There's a downward trend in average monthly incomes. According to the Singapore Social Health Project 2013 by the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre, declining trend in average monthly incomes and the increasing cost of living have made many Singaporeans feel vulnerable, especially those from lower-income families. The inadequacy of CPF for many who are retiring poses a threat to the well-being of the fast ageing population of Singapore. Singaporeans, especially the lower income, are increasingly finding it difficult to cope with escalating costs. The Gini coefficient has also increased, reflecting greater income inequalities. The report outlines six points that describe the current trends in Singapore's income security. 1. Real growth in average monthly household income per member increased for all residents in 2012; poor households suffered a decline in incomes. Income security in Singapore declined for the low income between 2010/11 to 2011/12. The lowest 10% are the hardest hit with a decline in wages in 2012. Gross real median wages across the common occupations listed by the Ministry of Manpower fell in all nine occupation categories from 2007 to 2011. 2. Cost of living has increased, eroding the purchasing power of savings. The inflation rates of 5.8% in 2011 and 4.6% in 2012 were higher than the average inflation rate of 1.9% over the last two decades. The inflation rates exceeded the 4% Central Provident Fund (CPF) interest rates on the Special and Retirement Accounts. 3. Inequality has increased. The Gini coefficient for Singapore increased from 0.473 in 2011 to 0.478 in 2012. It is the second highest in the world according to the Human Development Report among "very high human development countries

  16. Car Warning Lights: Is My Car Going to Blow Up? Myths & FactsBy Theodore Olson Today
  17. Extracted from another forum - I've been in the petroleum hauling business for over ten years now. What I can tell you about "branded" petrol is this: Sometimes it isn't what you think it is. And the additives which are put into the branded petrol are added in such small amounts it may or may not have the advertised effects on your engine/fuel system. Of course the law regulates the octane advertised on the pumps, but no agency (to my knowledge) ever checks for the additives which are purported to be present in the branded petrol. It then becomes possible for branded stations to sell petrol which doesn't have the additives that the signs and commercials say that it has. This can occur when the additive injector system fails at the loading terminal, or when the terminal runs out of an additive. Additives in petrol are just like additives in oil; they are "added" to the base product. All gas begins as pretty much the same stuff. Regular unleaded and premium for all oil terminals in a given area comes up the same pipeline. When Shell, Caltex, ExxonMobil and SPC fill their huge terminal storage tanks the petrol comes off the same pipeline at pretty much the same time. All company's 98 octane premium fuels are the same before the additives are injected into the petrol when it is being loaded onto the transport tanker trucks. There are a couple of different octanes out there for what can be called "premium" petrol. Read the pump. If it's 95, that isn't bad. 98 is better. If it's 92 it still works. The lower octane premiums are simply cut a bit with regular unleaded. That's also where "midgrade" 95 petrol comes from; it's mixed as it goes on the tanker truck--35 percent 98 and 65 percent 92 in most cases. The quality of petrol in the pipeline must meet certain standards, of course. This doesn't mean it will always be exactly the same, however. It is possible that your car will respond well to one particular company's additive. It's possible, but I think if you really tested the notion well you'd find other explanations for why your performance and/or mileage was up/down based on your choice of petrol. Most of us cannot tell any real difference between Shell branded or Caltex branded petrol. And that's not surprising since the base fuel is exactly the same stuff. Shell, Caltex and other petrol all comes up the pipeline at the same time; it's the same stuff. Only the miniscule additive package makes it any different. We've all heard "Don't buy Malaysian petrol because they put water in it." This is absurd for more reasons that I've got time to sit here and type out. But the most glaring flaw in this twisted logic is that petrol and water don't mix. The water settles to the bottom of the tank. The sumps are set at 12 inches off the floors of oil terminal holding tanks and water checks are made daily (and required by law). It's nearly impossible for water to be loaded onto a gasoline tanker truck and subsequently delivered to the customer. If you do find water in a retailer's gasoline, it got there by leaking into his ground tanks. This does happen, of course. Most newer stations have Veeder-Root tank monitoring systems these days. This system will sound an alarm if water is present in the ground tank. If I could recommend purchasing petrol from any retailer, I would say go to the retailer that moves the most petrol. His tanks are probably the cleanest. His petrol is probably the freshest off the pipeline. His ground sump and dispenser filters are going to be changed much more often. Since his business plan is obviously to sell maximum volume, he'll be meticulous in keeping filters maintained, and he'll have a fuel tank monitoring system (the Veeder-Root system mentioned earlier) which will alert him if water is ever present in his tanks. Underground fuel tanks should stay at around 60 degrees in most retail locations. This fluctuates a bit, of course. So if you were to purchase fuel in a hot climate you will actually get a little bit less fuel (nett litres) than you'd get if your fuel had come from a cold tank. One thing that we're seeing is less and less mid-grade (95 octane) and premium (98 octane) gasoline being sold, seemingly as a result of the high gasoline prices. More and more folks who previously pumped these higher grades have been coerced by high pump prices into trying the 92 octane grade, and they're finding that their cars perform just as well. And these folks won't likely switch back to higher octanes even if pump prices drop significantly.

  20. Well i find this interesting and maybe you guys would be interested. Fun Facts About The New Lancer... (1) Mitsubishi chose the name "Lancer" in order to allude to a soldier in a cavalry armed with a lance. Sure beats "Mitsubishi Grenadier", "Mitsubishi Gunner", "Mitsubishi Swordsman" or "Mitsubishi Rear Admiral" (2) In Japan, this latest version is known as the "Cedia", a word coined by Mitsubishi from the English words "CEntury" and "DIAmond". Obviously, it was named by the parents of Boutros-Boutros Ghali (3) The 1.8-litre Lancer is some 1200mm longer overall than the 1.5-litre version. How come? Longer bumpers. Size is everything, don't you know? (4) Mitsubishi's designers describe the Lancer's grille and nose treatment as being part of their hallmark "diamond-wedge" design. The analogy seems appropriate, since whoever penned the Lancer must have rocks in his head.
