Hi All, I have a cooking hob challenge, hope to hear some advice. My current cook hob is already about 15 yrs old, recently I am thinking of replacing it. But I faced with the limitation of the kitchen top cut-in size (800 X 430), which means I have to find a replacement hob with the identical cut-in size. My current hob is a Tecno T333TG (860 X 500, cut-in size 800 X 430), however the identical model currently available has a smaller cut-in size (690 X 390). I am avoiding altering the existing hole or worse, change entire kitchen top. I also considering other models with either cut-in width of 800 (depth lesser than 430) or depth of 430 (width lesser than 800), but wonder if it will hold. Any advice is appreciated. OK, let pause for a while first. What do you think the thread is all about when you see the title? Mouth watering food / makan, a new drama from Suria, or eye candy for lao uncle? What about SEDAP! A Culinary Adventure? I bet most will link it with a documentary, probably about hunting for great food in different part of the world. But, it is something else, and quite unexpected, at least for me. It is a video game, developed by a Singapore firm. Sedap! This two-player cooperative cooking action game marks the studio debut of home-grown game developer Kopiforge. It is set to be released on digital marketplace Steam on May 22, retailing at $14.50. Despite the virtual feast on offer, the game’s rocky development meant the studio’s three co-founders had to survive on a humbler menu of budget meals as they took home an average salary of $700 each. Co-founder Jay Wong says that “only eating cai fan for a year” has become an inside joke at the studio to describe their meagre budget. The 26-year-old graduated from Nanyang Technological University with a degree in media art (with a specialisation in games). The team also relied on other cheap hawker fare and cost-of-living hacks to finish their labour of love. “Sedap! is our love letter to South-east Asia,” says Mr Wong, who adds that the game’s concept began from a starting point of noticing how under-represented the region’s culture was in video games. This got him wondering. “What if we made a fantasy game, but instead of dragons and goblins, we featured creatures from our own myths? What if the food you cooked wasn’t generic soup or steak, but nasi lemak or mango sticky rice?” The result blends the chaotic action of popular cooking simulator game Overcooked (2016) with distinctly regional influences. Players can prepare more than 50 dishes from across the region, from globally known fare such as bubble tea and chicken rice, to regional staples like Cambodia’s fish amok, Myanmar’s mohinga and the humble teh tarik. The game’s regional influences also mean that players take on creatures from South-east Asian myths, while playing to a soundtrack composed using traditional instruments. Bringing this game to life meant dealing with quarter-life crisis. The game initially began in 2021 as a graduation project by Mr Wong and Ms Nadiyah Toi, 25. The two later co-founded Kopiforge in 2023 with Ms Foo Jing Ting, 27, to start developing the game full-time. Ms Foo was a senior of Mr Wong in Nanyang Polytechnic. Despite picking up accolades – including Best New Game at the BIG Festival @ gamescom latam 2025 and Best Student Game at the Level Up KL Sea Game Awards 2023 – securing funding was a challenge. Failing to secure a grant from the Infocomm Media Development Authority, the team relied on small grants and a single private investor. They also pitched the game to over 100 publishers before clinching a publishing deal at the end of 2024. “The year 2024 had a lot of layoffs in the video game industry, and I heard that funding in general was cut by a lot,” says Mr Wong. “We were a first-time studio with no prior game development experience, so I could guess why we didn’t attain funding.” These funding struggles meant that the bulk of their finances were dedicated to paying their freelance collaborators – who were brought in after the studio’s founding – fair rates, leaving the three co-founders with an average monthly income of $700 each. This took a personal toll. “Singapore’s culture puts a premium on productivity and high income,” says Mr Wong. “Most of my peers, especially those in tech, were already earning so much more than me, and I struggled with feeling left behind.” To join Kopiforge, Ms Foo left a better-paying gig as a system engineer at HP, but it is something she does not regret. She says: “Since university, I’ve felt like I was part of a different rat race from my peers because I always wanted to be in a role where I could create things, despite being trained in a technical field.” She had graduated from NTU with a degree in computer science in 2022. For Ms Toi, the sacrifices began even earlier, when she faced backlash from both family and school teachers over her decision to pursue a degree in game art at NTU. “I figured I would probably hate myself if I went for something practical and spent my life wondering what things could’ve been like if I’d committed to art instead,” she says. Their bet is about to be tested. What happens next hinges on the game’s sales, which will show whether their gamble – and all those cai fan meals – were worth it.

I'm thinking of getting something that can cook stew or soup without much fuss. So pressure cooker comes into my mind because i assume it's time saving. But I can also get a multi functional rice cooker that can also stew, soup or steam. Which one is recommended? I need to get something small compact. Most pressure cookers are 5L or 6L size. Too big for my space. Rice cookers comes in different sizes which I like. Is Pressure cooking really time saving? Anyone use multi functional rice cooker to cook?

Bought the Anova precision cooker during Black Friday for lazy woman steaks. Was only USD$99 + $20+ shipping, arrived over the weekend. Ordered from their American site but it was shipped from Hong Kong though. It has a Singapore compatible plug. Faster ran to Foodie Market at Katong to buy me some meat! 1.5inch ribeye (sorry didn't notice pic blur when I took it) 3/4 inch A4 wagyu Started with the ribeye first. A sea salt and fresh ground pepper rub. Let it sit for awhile and added rosemary and thyme. Into the bag (provided with the machine) with a clove of garlic. Throw into the pot and just wait! Bonus pic: "Mama, you cooking? Will I get some? I am a good boy!" 2 hours later.... success!

This show was good showing the cooks going to china isolated village to cook a feast. By last Monday show was about two sisters from china traveling for the first time to Singapore to visit the cooks/chefs. I watched and felt that the programme is putting a bad light onto the sisters. Making fun and showing their Sua-ku emotions in a very bad light. This quan yifeng, even laugh and suan the two sisters so much, that I feel sad for the two sisters. I am sure the editors and producers can edit it better to present them in a more sensible manner. I am going to watch tonight episode to see how yifeng is going to suan these foreign visitors.

The Indian family, who were mindful of their neighbour's aversion, had already taken to closing their doors and windows whenever they cooked the dish, but this was not enough. "They said: 'Can you please do something? Can you don't cook curry? Can you don't eat curry?'," said Madam Marcellina Giam, a Community Mediation Centre mediator. But the Indian family stood firm. In the end, Mdm Giam got the Indian family to agree to cook curry only when the Chinese family was not home. In return, they wanted their Chinese neighbours to at least give their dish a try. Link

Host Flora Cheung will start each 30-minute show shopping for fresh ingredients in the city's famous wet markets, undressing once she is back in the privacy of her studio kitchen, the South China Morning Post reported. Cheung, who admits she has never worked in a restaurant kitchen, said she hopes the risque show will draw more men into the kitchen. The first episode is set to air later this month. "I have always liked cooking and I thought I should share (the) enjoyment with more people," the 26-year-old told the Post. "Most men don't like to cook, but I want to get them interested... From shopping to cooking - it's the whole shebang," Cheung added. The host promised that her tailor-made, transparent apron won't leave much to the imagination. "It covers pretty much everything but hides nothing," she was quoted as saying. with the influx of china ppl working in foodcourts i have finally given up on foodcourts. i am not going to waste time describing the 3 disgusting incidents which just took place at my foodcourt in a matter of minutes. im army trained... never whined abt sand in my canned food and i am not the type who is fussy abt food. i'm the type who will pick up the meat and eat it even if it falls on the table. my mom is forever travelling and is not always in spore to cook for us. anyway the important thing is im gonna start cooking myself. any tips for me? any easy recipes for beginners like me? i've seen youtube videos and recipe books..... but what i need are simple recipes where the ingredients are easily found in our markets.... preferably meat and vege recipes thnx a million!

Method : - Put some rice grains ( brown or white ) into a stainless steel thermos flask. - Pour in boiling water ( not hot water ) up to 3/4 full and closed the flask. - After 5 hrs, you will have porridge. - The flask will also keep the porridge hot for 24 hrs. Anybody got any great ideas to share

Hi all, When I shop for Shao Hsing Hua Tiao Cooking Wine, I'm amused about the price differences between brands. For roughly 640ML bottle, it could be as low as S$2, then from S$3.60, S$5.10 to even S$10.50. The alcohol content is betwen 17, 17.5 to 18% (mostly 18%). In JB, the cheapest is around RM8 to RM17. Again, all different brands from that those I saw in SG supermarket. Anyone, prefer certain brand when come to using them? Thank you. Regards,
