  2. Anyone has passion for classic cars? Do you like them, hate them or indifferent. I had 2 previous experience of driving old COE cars, 70's registered. Only car I could afford then, but it was really fun. Had a Mini Clubman and a BMW E21 before. Likes - simple engine, any mechanic also can fix - no such thing as fuel injection, carburretors. Very few of the same cars on the road. Even sports car drive pass also look. dislikes - rust, high road tax, take loan must pay football money. I like best the Triumph spitfire, Ford Mustang, MGB and Alfa spyder.

  4. Porsche Offers Modern Infotainment Systems For Classic 911 Models source: https://www.motor1.com/news/414490/porsche-modern-infotainment-classic-models/ First-generation Boxsters can get an upgrade, too. There’s no denying that Porsche has some of the most passionate auto fans in the world. Credit for that legacy certainly falls to the 911 – these owners love their cars and they love to drive them, be it a new 911 Turbo S or a classic air-cooled model from decades past. A few years back, Porsche Classic offered a neat upgrade for classic 911 owners in the form of a single-din infotainment system, bringing fresh tech to old classics. Now, Porsche Classic has updated that design and created a super-sized expansion with a new double-din unit. Called Porsche Classic Communication Management (PCCM), the newest offerings bring more tech options to old models with a single-din space in the dash, or straight-up modern tech to "young classics" starting with the 996 generation that have double-din systems. Regardless of the size, both systems offer Apple CarPlay, DAB +, and Bluetooth connectivity as well as navigation features. The larger double-din unit is called PCCM Plus. It’s designed to be a plug-and-play system that works with existing controls in the car, while also offering touchscreen functionality through a 7-inch screen. The upgraded technology for PCCM Plus also means those young classics drivers can take advantage of Porsche’s latest navigation systems with Porsche points-of-interest and route guidance. It’s not just for the 911 either – Porsche says this unit will work in the first-generation Boxster as well. The upgraded single-din design for older Porsches isn't quite as capable, but it still offers impressive capability for its size. In addition to navigation functions, the new PCCM offers DAB + and Apple CarPlay capability as well as a 3.5-inch touch-sensitive display. Primary functions are controlled through rotary knobs and integrated buttons, with the overall design mimicking classic Porsche stereo systems as closely as possible. The upgraded PCCM single-din unit is now available at a cost of €1,439.89 ($1,551). The larger double-din PCCM Plus model sells for €1,606.51 ($1,731). Both are available at Porsche centers or online in the Porsche Classic shop. Source: Porsche

  6. Chris Harris goes classic mini racing in his latest series of Chris Harris Drives video. If you love racing, you probably would want to have a go in the car too. With 60 old school Minis gathered in Goodwood for the celebration of the model’s 60th anniversary, Harris got to remind himself how fun it was to drive the Minis as racing cars. These specially prepped cars had 125bhp and could rev over 8,000rpm. While the power output doesn't sound like much, it only weighs 620kg and with the help of a limited-slip differential and many modern components, the Minis can average an impressive 150km/h around the track.
  7. Porsche Classic has reissued more than 700 original driver’s manuals starting from the 356 all the way to the 996 generation 911. Said to be available at all dealerships worldwide, anyone who wants to get these manuals can also purchase it on their Porsche Classic online store. The documents released in the reprint includes a selection of extensive technical information, settings and practical tips, ranging from the radio unit to paint data and engine numbers. Owners of these manual can also get facts and figures of the car's dimensions, tolerances, settings for the engine and chassis, with all identification details and their position illustrated and described in detail. The reprinted booklet range also includes more than 100 warranty and maintenance booklets, as well as vehicle wallets that are true to the original. According to Porsche, they started digitizing their archive a few years ago as the original booklets get worn or misplaced. Each reprint matches the original version in terms of printing, look and quality.

  16. Hi Guys, anyone knows if there's such a thing as a Portable headphone amp that works as a bluetooth Transmitter too?? This is because i wanna use my Ipod classic with my bluetooth speakers, yet i also wana use an amp like the Fiio E17 or something. The problem is, bluetooth transmitter will be using the 30-pin connector for optimal results, so does the Fiio E17, so i cant connect both at the same time. So it will be cool if there is an amp similar to the Fiio E17, which also works as a bluetooth transmitter so i can also use my bluetooth speakers(which does not have an aux in at all). Anyone knows if such products exists?? Thanks!

  18. A 40-foot sinkhole opened up under the National Corvette Museum in Kentucky on Wednesday and swallowed eight collector cars, including the historic one millionth Corvette built in 1992. No injuries were reported, but a 1993 ZR-1 Spyder and a 2009 ZR1 “Blue Devil” on loan from General Motors Co were among the iconic cars piled up in the gaping pit. It seems almost Biblical in a way, to have the ground open up and swallow the cream of the collection of the museum, what are the odds? Alarms went off early Wednesday morning in the “Skydome” area and museum security officers who rushed to the scene discovered the sinkhole, 25 to 30 feet (7.6 to 9m) deep. The Bowling Green Fire Department estimated its width at 40 feet (12m). Security camera footage posted on the museum’s web site shows two cars falling in as the hole opens up. Museum spokeswoman Laura Johnson said other cars near the sinkhole have been safely removed, and the museum was now trying to find a way to pull up the damaged Corvettes. Evidently, 'what to do next' includes moving other cars in their collection that might be at risk due to the sinkhole. Because the museum operates so many webcams, it's been possible to follow the action unfolding live. Teams of people have been pushing Corvette display cars of all years and descriptions through the museum's carpeted halls, but it isn't immediately clear where these cars are going. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0im-l411P1M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5FG9_mGWPo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbQF8_ZcwQk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k05VvKHsWaw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IukDWhf7U9I
  19. How long is needed before an icon can be created? Many of us don't hold the answer - but Porsche does. Half a century of the 911 has seen it become one of the benchmarks - not just in its segment, but in the automotive industry. 50 years and seven generations - few models can claim a life as long-lived as the 911. That said, the 911's recipe has raised brows since its inception. Its engine is at the wrong end of the car. The looks? Many argue that it has hardly changed at all. But for Porschephiles - it is the timeless looks that, perhaps, hold the greatest appeal of all. It all started in 1963, when Ferdinand Alexander Porsche 'Butzi' penned the 911 to take over the 356. The second generation came in 1973 - almost a decade after the first 911's debut. It is also this generation that spawned the famous 'Turbo' variant, which was launched in 1976 - amidst an oil crisis. But that did not stop the 911 Turbo to become one of the greatest sportscar of its time. Codenamed '964', the third generation was massively revamped, carrying only 20 percent of its parts from its predecessor. The 'modern' 911 also incorporated new technologies, such as ABS, airbags, as well as Porsche's 'Tiptronic' automatic transmission and Carrera 4's all-wheel drive system. The fourth generation (codenamed '993') took the centre stage in 1993. As the last generation to sport an air-cooled flat-six engine, its status in history is firmly sealed. And it remains to be one of the favourites among fans of the marque. The fifth generation (codenamed '996') is very different from its forebears. It was bigger and has a sleeker profile, and more importantly the engine at its rump now employs water-cooling technologies. It was regarded by many as a departure from the previous 911s. The sixth generation (dubbed '997') saw the creation of a number of new variants, such as the 911 Speedster, 911 Sports Classic, and GT2 RS - the most hardcore road-going 911 thus far. The current generation reinvents the icon with a slew of new technologies. For instance, the GT3 ditched the old 'Metzger' block for a brand new engine. The track weapon also comes exclusively with PDK (Porsche's iteration of the dual-clutch gearbox) - no more manual transmission. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the 911. And as expected, there are celebrations being held at various places around the world. But nothing comes close to that at Silverstone. At an event organised jointly by Porsche Cars GB (a Porsche-only car club in U.K.) and Silverstone Classic, a total of 1,208 911s gathered at the circuit. The scale of the event was never preceded, and sets a new world record. It is amazing how the 911 has progressed through the years. At the same time, we too wonder how long the 'evergreen' design is here to stay, and if it does, how will it look ten, twenty years down the road. Only time will tell.
  20. Fans of vintage racing cars would be familiar with racing cars such as the Porsche 917, Ford GT40 and the Lola T70. And most fans of these racing cars could only dream of driving them as the real thing could cost you a lot of money. But now you can stop dreaming and obtain one of these racing cars at a fraction of the price of a real one. South African firm, Bailey Cars, builds replicas of classic racing cars and they have set up shop in North America so fans can fulfil their dreams of owning such racers. Prices ranging from US$83,000 for a Lola T70 to US$103,300 for a Ferrari P4, excluding shipping. You could say that the prices are not that really cheap but considering that they are still much cheaper than buying the real thing and they are built using modern engineering techniques. Each car is built on a modern tube frame chassis. Engine and transmission is based on a customer
  21. Losing a car to theft is one of the most aggravating thing that could happened to a car owner especially if that person has put his/her blood, sweat and tears into it. Stolen vehicles usually end up being stripped into parts or shipped out of the country totally and the chances of getting it back are rather low. In Brisbane, Australia; a rather strange incident happened when dock workers inspected a container that has been sitting for ten years. In it, they found a 1968 Chevrolet Corvette convertible. In 2002, the Corvette was reported stolen by its owner in Australia. After an intensive search by the authorities and nothing was found, the owner received compensation by the insurance company (Suncorp Insurance). Recently, dock workers were inspecting containers at a dock in Brisbane and they discovered a container that no one could account for. After opening it, they found the missing Corvette, sitting on time flattened tyres. The car was considered to be in a rather good condition, not too bad after ten years. The third generation Corvette (also commonly known as the Corvette Stingray) has only 77,000 kilometres on the odometer before it went missing. It seems that it was a base model Corvette since it has the 327 cubic inch (5.4 litre) small block V8 engine fitted. Additionally, the car was fitted with a four speed manual transmission. Records show that the car was built on December 1967 and that means it is an early production third generation Corvette. Since the insurance company has already compensated the owner, they will auction the car off in order to recover any losses or make some profit from it. After sitting for ten years, the car needs some work to make it road worthy. Once it is ready, the Corvette is expected to fetch around $15,000 to $20,000 (in Aussie dollars). Image credit: Drive
  22. Sometimes in life, when you are looking for something or someone, you end up finding something else. That is quite natural as I strongly believe it has happened to many people at a point of their life. It happened to an American man who was searching for his birth mother and unexpectedly ended up with a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS that has been in the family for many years. Zach S from Virginia, United States; first saw the Camaro RS/SS in 2006 when he met his birth mother in Arizona after years of searching. During the meeting, both mother and son shared many stories and pictures. When Zach mentioned to his mother that he was into cars, his mother told him that his grandma's car was stored in the back yard under a tarpaulin. Under the canvas sheet was the 1967 Chevy Camaro RS that has been stored in the harsh conditions of the Arizona desert for more than twenty years. According to Zach, it was like a time capsule. The car was purchased new by Zach's grandmother from a dealer in Los Angeles. She ordered the car with the RS/SS package. It came with the RS package trimming and it was fitted with a 5.7-litre V8 engine that delivers around 295bhp. The car also came with a rare bench seat, automatic column shifters, power steering and hidden headlights. When Zach's mother passed away in 2008, he asked his brother whether if he could buy the vehicle but his brother was not willing to part with it at that moment. Two years later, Zach got a telephone call from his brother who said that he was ready to sell the Camaro to Zach. And so, Zach hired a company to ship the Camaro to his home in Virginia. Zach's grandmother have kept all forms of documentation of the car in a diary and he found out that the Camaro has never been titled outside of California. Zach has all the documents in the diary and it also included several other things such as a letter from the dealership's salesperson thanking her for buying the car and two speeding tickets from the same policeman in the same month. Zach intends to get the car fixed and drive it around for a few years before passing it down to his sister's children in order for the family's future generations to cherish and enjoy.
