  1. https://mothership.sg/2020/10/sg-marriage-no-wedding/ Getting married without a wedding banquet Parents, do you still insist that your kids have a wedding banquet when they get married? At least mine did when I got married. My mum invited her friends, my tuition teacher when I was young (goodness) and many others whom I do not know. Youngsters prefer to keep it simple and save the money for travel nowadays. As parents we did not insist on a wedding banquet (for my daughter) as we do not want our kids to be in debt. But MY parents were not too happy about our decision. For those with daughters, would you insist for at least a simple banquet? Sometimes its not for the face but we want our daughters to "marry off well". But we have to agree that living expenses are rising and young people thesedays have a mind of their own.
  2. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/married-father-7-claims-fired-143000171.html A former Google executive says he has been fired after he rejected advances from a senior female member of staff, the male executive claims in a lawsuit. Ryan Olohan said he was groped by Tiffany Miller at an upmarket Manhattan restaurant in December 2019, alleging that she told him she knew he liked Asian women, which she is, and that her marriage lacked “spice.” Miller, who is the director of Google’s programmatic media, allegedly complemented Olohan’s physique and touched his torso while they were at Fig & Olive during a company get-together, per a report by the New York Post. Olohan, a married father of seven, claims he was promoted to managing director of food, beverages, and restaurants and joined a team that included Miller. The former exec said he was wary of bringing up the incident to his colleagues at first because several of them were drunk at the time—and when he did, they dismissed Miller’s advances as “Tiffany being Tiffany,” according to the lawsuit, filed on Nov. 30. Olohan, 48, then took his concerns to human resources, which did not take any action. The lawsuit stated that a representative from the department “openly admitted…that if the complaint was ‘in reverse’—a female accusing a white male of harassment—the complaint would certainly be escalated.” Instead, Olohan claims, Miller retaliated following his complaint and reported him to HR for unspecified “microaggressions.” A representative for Miller denied denied his allegations in a statement to Fortune. “This lawsuit is a fictional account of events filled with numerous falsehoods, fabricated by a disgruntled ex-employee, who was senior to Ms. Miller at Google. Ms. Miller never made any 'advance' toward Mr. Olohan, which witnesses can readily corroborate. Even more disturbing is the overt sexism and racism in Mr. Olohan‘s efforts to blame others for his termination.” Repeated harassment Two years after the first incident, Miller allegedly reprimanded Olohan while drunk at a Google event in December 2021—a situation that escalated to the extent that colleagues recommended she sit at the other end of the table. Miller did apologize, the lawsuit states, but “although Google was aware that Miller’s continued harassment of Olohan stemmed from his rejection of her sexual advances, it again took no action.” A further incident occurred in April 2022 during a company social event at a karaoke bar, when Miller once again verbally attacked Olohan while drunk, mocking him and reiterating that she knew he had a preference for Asian women with the prior knowledge that his wife is Asian. Olohan said he felt increasingly under pressure; his supervisor told him there were “obviously too many white guys” on his management team and in July he was allegedly encouraged to fire a male employee so he could be replaced by a woman. Olohan was then fired by Google in August, after he’d spent 16 years at the company, for not being “inclusive.” He claims that Google’s Employee Investigations Team said he’d expressed favoritism toward high-performing employees, and that he was “ableist” because he’d made comments on colleagues’ “walking pace.” The lawsuit accuses both Google and Miller of discrimination, retaliation, and fostering a hostile work environment.
  3. A 65-year-old wealthy Indonesian man married a 19-year-old woman in May 2022. The 46-year age gap between the bride and groom became the talk of the town in Indonesia, where it was reported that the dowry paid by the man was some 500 million rupiah (S$46,535). The groom, Haji Sondani, also bought his bride, Fia Barlanti, a house and a car. The couple got married on May 18 in West Java, Indonesia, according to Indonesia media reports. However, the pair have since divorced, according to Malay Mail. The exact reason for the divorce was not disclosed, but speculation was rife barely two weeks into the marriage that the woman did not fancy her husband. She was seen publicly behaving in a manner that appeared cold towards him. Haji and Fia were seated side by side in front of their house for a recitation that was publicly recorded and witnessed by many others, but they did not appear close. Fia's body language, it was observed, was a far cry from her initial disposition towards her husband when they first became man and wife. At one point, she was seen playing with her phone and even shielded her face, as if embarrassed. MCFers, if it's too good to be true, that's because it probably is.
  4. https://mothership.sg/2018/05/married-couple-divorced-buy-hdb-flat-as-single/?nlarticleid=11561273 Husband and wife agree to a divorce of convenience A husband and wife in Singapore had apparently agreed to divorce — just so that they can each own a HDB flat. This was after they figured marriage is just a status, and by divorcing, they can unlock their Central Provident Fund monies in a different way. Wife bought another flat under singles scheme The couple originally bought a HDB flat together when they got married. It was paid for using the husband’s CPF. The husband is now a cab driver. He is likely to be 54 this year, or somewhere in his mid-fifties. He claims he cannot withdraw his CPF money by next year because it does not meet the Minimum Sum, or Retirement Sum, which is the minimum amount of money needed in your CPF account when you turn 55 before withdrawals can be made. The wife too will not be able to withdraw any CPF money in a few years’ time, since she also does not meet the minimum sum. The plan Husband and wife then divorced. On paper. But they are obviously still very much together. This frees up the wife to buy a HDB flat of her own as a single under the Single Singapore Citizen (SSC) scheme. She is able to get a housing grant for the flat as a second-timer single Singapore citizen applicant. She can pay for it with her CPF — which otherwise would be locked in once she turns 55. The man now owns the first flat as a single. Rental income Since he has lived in the house for longer than the five-year Minimum Occupation Period, he is able to rent it out. The husband then proceeds to live with his now ex-wife in the new flat, while both enjoy the passive income from the rental of the first matrimonial flat — said to be about $2,500 monthly.

  7. Didn't know Elton John is a GAY .... Yahoo news: Elton John to get hitched in May London, March 30 (IANS) Singer Elton John and his partner David Furnish will get married in the summer of 2014. They will marry in an English registry office in May, Furnish told the Las Vegas Review Journal at John's birthday party Friday at Fizz, Las Vegas, reports eonline.com. The two entered into a British civil partnership eight years ago. But, given that Friday marked the first day gays were allowed to exchange vows in England, they've decided to head to the altar again. "We don't feel the need to take an extra step legally," said Furnish. "But since we're committed for life, we feel it's really important to take that step, and take advantage of that amazing change in legislation. We all live by example," he added. link: https://sg.entertainment.yahoo.com/news/elton-john-hitched-may-114004452.html

  9. http://news.asiaone.com/news/digital1/business-ruining-marriages Business of ruining marriages SINGAPORE - If your spouse starts behaving suspiciously next year, Ashley Madison could be to blame. The dating website that facilitates extramarital affairs between married individuals plans for a launch in Singapore next year, My Paper understands. The Canada-based website has over 21 million users worldwide. Its slogan: "Life is short. Have an affair." Ashley Madison has already expanded to other Asian countries and territories such as Japan, and, more recently, Hong Kong in August. Its foray into Hong Kong, where divorce cases hit a record high of 21,125 last year, was met with controversy as religious and family-planning groups criticised the website. This is unlikely to have fazed Ashley Madison, which was launched in 2001 and has enjoyed a colourful history - offending many, but still soldiering on. In 2010, the company approached the city of Phoenix, Arizona, with an offer of US$10 million to rename the Sky Harbor Airport to Ashley Madison International Airport over a five-year period. Even though the city was in financial trouble, it rejected the offer. Meanwhile, Ms Trish McDermott, a consultant who helped found Match.com, accused Ashley Madison of being a "business built on the back of broken hearts, ruined marriages and damaged families". Ashley Madison chief executive Noel Biderman has continued to push his provocative message through radio and TV commercials. It could run into roadblocks in Singapore as well. Mr Samuel Seow, managing director of Samuel Seow Law Corporation, said that an online service such as Ashley Madison is likely to be viewed as "objectionable" by the Media Development Authority (MDA), where public interest and morality are concerned. While the MDA has no powers to govern the content within the website if the server is not hosted in Singapore, it does have the power and the ability to block certain websites from being accessed locally, he said. Figures from the Department of Statistics released in July showed that the annual number of divorces and annulments in Singapore fell by 4.8 per cent to 7,241 last year, the first drop in seven years. Websites like Ashley Madison could change the picture and hurt marriages and families, said relationship experts. Counsellor and family coach Richard Cheong said people who sign up for such services are likely to be looking for "a casual fling or a sexual encounter". "These people could be having issues in their current relationships, but they do not want to leave their spouses," said the director of Hero Training and Consultancy. "So, they look elsewhere, to websites such as Ashley Madison, to get their needs met, even if it's only temporary." Mr Brian Liu, a member of the National Family Council, said the website could destroy "the foundations of a family". You've been warned. Not that the website cares.

  14. Let say u are done with having baby. What contraceptive method are u using now? My wife has been taking pills for some time and i want her to stop as i'm worried about the possible side effects in longer term. Have tried IUD before but she feel discomfort so we removed it. So i am left with, 1) Wife use Hormone Patch. But this is as good as taking pills as it uses hormonal change to control fertility. 2) Wife go ligation. She has went thru 2 rounds of op for my 2 gals. Enough for her. 3) Continue to use condom. But risk of doing raw at times. 4) I go visectomy. Heard is a simple procedure and cost less than ligation. Thinking of doing it.... So married man out there, i want to hear what is your advice.

  18. A local woman has come forward to share her experience of having married a fugitive rapist. Mdm Zhang (43, masseuse) told reporters that she got to know her Norwegian husband Michael (57, businessman) through a friend about 11 years ago when she was on holiday in Italy. The two had maintained contact through the internet and met again in Dubai in 2004. They dated for a year before getting married in Singapore on 25 May 2005. Mdm Zhang said, "I felt very lonely when I was in Dubai. The social rules there were very strict so it was very tough for me. At that time, he became my sanctuary." Their marriage hit an unexpected hitch when her husband was suddenly deported from Singapore in 2006, then extradited back to Norway from Qatar after that. "I didn't know what happened to him. He told me an ex-girlfriend had some financial troubles with her business, so he needed to return and help with investigations," said Mdm Zhang. After that, Mdm Zhang related that she paid more than $3,000 in legal fees on her husband's behalf. The lawyer did not explain to her about the case, but suggested that she search for Michael's name on the internet. "I discovered that Michael was wanted by the Interpol. He is a convicted rapist." According to the Norwegian media, Michael was sentenced to 3 years and 10 months' jail for raping his ex-girlfriend. He had also been arrested for using violence on nearly ten women, including threatening his ex-wife with a knife. Michael became a fugitive when he disappeared before his case was brought on appeal in Norway. Michael eventually served his sentence then returned to Singapore to look for Mdm Zhang at her flat. At the time, Mdm Zhang refused to let Michael into her house. Furious with the refusal, the man attempted to force entry, resulting in Mdm Zhang summoning the police for help. Three weeks after the first incident, Michael returned to Mdm Zhang's house with some men. She was not at home to stop them and the men made off with her property including furniture, appliances and her computer. She lost more than $20,000 worth of property and had to call the police for help again. Source: Shin Min Daily News, 18 October 2011. Click here for the Chinese report
