  1. Personally, the mindset of the national is if it is FREE we will keep it hence, i dont envisage a possible reduction in our NS duration what i am very worried about is the world is moving so very fast we already had been disadvantaged by NS, resulting in being 2 or 2 1/2 years behind our girls and our foreign classmates in the future it will be worse for our children even 6 months can mean a break or score the economic cycle also is shorter hence, i am just worried about our children am i worrying too much for our kids or should i just relax TAIPEI

  3. Over the weekends , I recieved this letter from MINDEF which read: "With effect from 04NOV07 , you are no longer liable for National Service pursuant to Section 2 of the Enlistment Act , Cap93.From that date , you will no longer be required to apply for an Exit Permit nor to inform MINDEF Notification Centre (MNC) when you travel overseas. .....blah..... We thank you for your contribution and hope that you will continue to give your fullest support to Singapore Total Defence .We Wish you every success in your future endeavours." Well , this is it I'm officially 'discharge'from the SAF . However , I'm going to miss all those 'brotherhood' that I have accumulated and encountered during all those active and reservists years. To all those who I have met from : 1)DEC 1987 SBMT NeeSoon Camp Bravo company 2)APR 1988 OETI Gunfitter course 3)1988-1989 Mount Vernon camp OSB 5 SUB , GSMB small arms and Amoy Quee camp GSMB heavy arms. 4)During my reservists year from 1990-2007 at GSMB and later 9DSMB Weapons/Ordnance maintenance company ; it has been a honour and very privilege to have work together with you guys !!!

  7. National Day is round the corner and NDP19 rehearsals are in full swing. This year the Bicentennial parade will be held at the Padang. Had the wonderful opportunity to attend an NE show and the experience was fantastic. Will share some videos here to build up some NDP fervour. It was quite something to watch the Red Lions land safely in the Padang after jumping off from a Super Puma helicopter high up in the sky. Red Lions landing, led by 1st Warrant Officer Melvin Ho, with 1,400 jumps. He was the team leader for NDP19 Red Lions jump team, and he executed a perfect landing right in the middle of the Parade Square.

  11. Avijit Das Patnaik looks baffled as he utters these words, as if he is still trying to make sense of what has happened in the five months since making headlines for sharing an image - created by someone else - on social media of a Singapore flag being ripped to reveal an Indian flag. “If you Google my name, there are more hits and searches against my name than against leading terrorists and scamsters,” the 45-year-old tells Channel NewsAsia. The consequences of sharing the image on a Facebook post in August last year have been devastating for the Singapore Permanent Resident, who is originally from India: He’s now jobless and he, along with his wife and two young children, will now likely have to leave the country that's been their home for the last ten years. Their HDB flat is now on the market, and all that is left is for it to be sold. The former vice-president at DBS has now been branded a “troublemaker" by some, he points out, but his fervent desire is clearly to explain how he is sensitive to being a foreigner living in a country he says he loves. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/ex-dbs-avijit-das-patnaik-ripped-singapore-indian-flag-interview-11152596 ****** I wish him well in India.
  12. colleague just came back reservist today. he said very relac as all training programs were cancelled. reason??? 1 unlicensed guy drove a military vehicle, the vehicle overturned and killed one NS man on the spot. heard that the lower part of the NS body was "cut" into two by the overturned vehicle!!!! The unlicensed driver is a regular Sergent. so 2 injured 1 instant death. 13. Wahaha....i feel so insulted for milo https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asia/mahathir-disappointed-over-cool-response-to-second-national-car-10536322 KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on Monday (Jul 16) expressed disappointment that his idea for a second national car has not been well-received by the people. Dr Mahathir said he was informed that no one wanted to see another national car being developed as most of the people regarded “it was enough” having the Proton, which has been deemed to be a failure. In a posting on his blog, Dr Mahathir sarcastically remarked that “we are not qualified nor capable of having an automotive industry”. Malaysians, he said, were prepared to buy imported cars, including from China, and also get Japanese-made and German-made cars, especially those who could afford them. "I still remember the Japanese car after the war. As users, if we scratch with our fingernails, we’ll see Milo tins, but it is from these Milo tin cars that came the various models, such as Toyota, Nissan and Suzuki which we are now using. "Certainly this will not happen with Malaysia. Our car will always be made from Milo tins forever,” he said. Dr Mahathir clarified that the government had no plans to make the proposed second national car as a government-owned automotive industry He said the private sector in the country was now capable of designing, making clay models and test models, as well as produce cars on a large scale. “But, because early on we have rejected the idea of a second national car, then we will oppose all proposals to produce cars by the private sector. Certainly, the government will not have a government-owned automotive industry,” said the prime minister. Dr Mahathir said the country’s market was now full of imported cars, both of good quality and also the Milo tin type. "Produced by giant companies, they monopolise Malaysia’s car market so much so that it buried Proton. “In the end, Proton was sold to foreigners. There is no more national car, no more automotive industry. Workers, engineers, managers are also out of jobs. Everything drops. "Malaysia becomes a consumer country, padi farming country, fishing. It’s alright. This is what we want and this is what we get. Just forget about Vision 2020,” said Dr Mahathir.
  14. An interesting insight into the eyes of Expat kids serving their NS. Hard to imagine living in Singapore and yet not made a single local friend. If you have 10 mins of time while drinking kopi in office, it's worth a read. http://ricemedia.co/culture-people-expat-kids-national-service-culture-shock/

  18. with the closure of the Hawker heroes competition, i'm sure many were not surprised that people queued for a 6pm event, 17 hours in advance. for a shot at the famous 3 starred chef or for some FOC seafood, i'm not sure. got queue = got demand = good stuff seemed like a locally accepted equation now. from Condo to HK to GR to 10mil Toto draw, we really love to queue, aren't we?

  21. Ok, I did my searches and I could not find any thread started on NDP 2016. I found NDP 2015, 14 etc. So I am starting this thread. However, if I missed a thread that already started for NDP 2016, please forgive me. Struck me that NDP 2016 is the SG51 NDP. (since last year was SG 50). It is the 1st NDP for the next 50 years of Singapore's development. I got a kid who attended the NE show and came back with a fun pack that was quite cool. I loved the Singapore scarf.
