Now they want us to put more of our data in there. But why make everyone monitor access to their own data? Isn't this MOH's job to ensure our data is not compromised? All healthcare providers required to share patients' health data under new law SINGAPORE: All licensed healthcare providers will be required to share their patients’ health information with a central repository from early next year after parliament passed a new law on Monday (Jan 12). Under the Health Information Bill, healthcare providers must contribute key health information to the National Electronic Health Record system (NEHR), which was introduced in 2011. Examples of information to be shared include allergies, vaccinations, diagnoses, medications, laboratory test results, radiological images and discharge summaries. This will apply to patients who are Singaporeans, permanent residents or have long-term immigration passes. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/health-patient-data-medical-records-moh-5853131

For many people, especially ladies, looking young at the age of 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and so on is a gift from god. But if a person look forever young, he or she might be ill, and it can be fatal! Rare hormonal condition keeps 41-year-old looking forever young Source: https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/rare-hormonal-condition-keeps-41-year-old-looking-forever-young SINGAPORE – When Mr Jeremy Cheong, 41, attended his secondary school reunion party in 2024, his former classmates looked their age – with wrinkles on their faces and frown lines between their eyebrows. Standing among them, the administrative executive looked like a young man in his 20s. He could even have easily passed off as one of their sons. “Nobody really explained to me that because my cortisol production had stopped, I had to be on steroids for life. The good thing is that I won’t age. It actually took me 10 years to realise it,” Mr Cheong told The Straits Times. Mr Cheong looks forever young due to a rare condition called panhypopituitarism. The condition is caused by the reduced production of hormones in the pituitary gland, a pea-size organ that sits behind the bridge of the nose at the base of the brain. Dr Mok Shao Feng, a senior consultant in the division of endocrinology at the National University Hospital, said: “The gland controls many of our hormonal functions, like our thyroid gland, the maturation of our sexual organs in both genders, production of growth hormones and the regulation of urine output from our body.” The pituitary hormones are in charge of several important functions in the body, such as metabolism, growth and reproduction. There are about four cases of panhypopituitarism per 100,000 people worldwide a year. Dr Mok said that “patients can be diagnosed with varying symptoms and at different stages of their life”. “Individuals who have young onset of the disease can have delayed puberty, missing pubertal milestones. For female patients, they can present with missed or irregular periods, subfertility and difficulty in conceiving... When it comes down to the other hormones, the general symptoms include feeling more tired and putting on weight,” he said. Dr Mok added that in some patients, like Mr Cheong, many hormonal functions are affected. The endocrinologist said the most common cause of panhypopituitarism is tumours in the hypothalamus or pituitary gland. “Even though they are benign, they are growing in an enclosed space, causing problems such as compression. Patients lose vision, particularly at the peripheral, before it gets worse. These tumours can have propensity to suddenly bleed as well, so that relates to the underlying problem,” he said. “For hormonal deficiency, it depends on how many hormonal axes are affected and whether it is a complete or partial one. Patients with a single affected hormonal axis can go undiscovered for quite a long time... You can have the more drastic ones where the symptoms present much earlier. Not only do (these patients) lack the sexual hormone and cannot have puberty, they also lack the steroid hormone cortisol, which is important for survival,” he added. Cortisol, or the stress hormone, is responsible for maintaining constant blood pressure and blood glucose levels, regulating immune function and anti-inflammatory mechanisms, and it dictates the fight-or-flight response. The lack of testosterone can be associated with a younger-looking appearance. Mr Cheong was diagnosed only at the age of 21. He still looked like a boy in his mid-teens then. “That year, I realised I was getting fatter. I also realised I was heat intolerant... The first thing I did was to see an endocrinologist, and I was given a blood test. That was when I found out that I had hypothyroidism. I was also told if I continued being in this state (without treatment), I would have died,” he said. Mr Cheong added that scans showed that his condition was caused by a tumour near his hypothalamus. In 2005, he had both the tumour and his hypothalamus removed, he told ST. Once the hypothalamus is damaged or removed, dysfunctions can manifest in various areas. These include body temperature, growth, weight gain, emotional control, sleep cycle, and a deficiency of antidiuretic hormone (ADH), resulting in frequent urination and thirst. “I had trouble sleeping over the next 10 years until 2015, when I was given medication to deal with my sleeplessness,” Mr Cheong said. Currently, he is still on a battery of medication, including an ADH, to help him manage the symptoms caused by the condition. While most people in their 40s try to look younger, Mr Cheong tries his best to look much older. He said one trick was to try to have a lot of facial hair. He told ST that he managed to grow a goatee once. “When I look back at my 20s and my 30s, I looked really young then,” he said. “Whenever I tell doctors that I have panhypopituitarism, they, especially the women, wish they had it too,” he added, laughing. And whenever he is in public places such as a mall or hawker centre, older women call him “ah boy”. “I guess at my age now, it is actually nice to be called ‘ah boy’,” Mr Cheong said.

What is wrong? Another food poisoning case. SINGAPORE - In yet another case of food poisoning, 131 people have fallen ill after consuming food from a caterer. The victims included Kindergarten 2 pupils and teachers who were attending a learning camp. In a joint statement, the National Environmental Agency (NEA), Ministry of Health (MOH) and Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) said that they were investigating an outbreak of gastroenteritis traced to the consumption of food prepared by FoodTalks Caterer & Manufacturer, located at Shimei East Kitchen in Bedok on Monday (Nov 26). As of Tuesday, 131 cases of gastroenteritis have been reported. None of the victims have been hospitalised. MOH, NEA and AVA conducted a joint inspection of the caterer's premises on Tuesday. As part of the investigations, food handlers were sent for stool screening, and food and environmental samples were taken for testing, the agencies said. According to Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao, the food poisoning victims had attended a learning camp organised by Busy Bees Asia. It is the third in a series of high-profile food-poisoning incidents that have occurred in the last month.

Think there have been many cases of people faced with million dollar medical bills. Think it is time to review the need for free healthcare. Would you rather we have high taxes and have free healthcare or have it status quo where healthcare is only for rich in society? http://theindependent.sg/1m-for-hospital-bill-healthcare-or-nightmare/

Can't think of any nice words for this beast 畜生. http://www.tnp.sg/news/world-news/man-kills-daughter-3-months-after-winning-custody MAN KILLS DAUGHTER 3 MONTHS AFTER WINNING CUSTODY 6563 May 17, 2015 5:08pm He was happy to win custody of his four-year-old daughter. But three months later, Alexa-Marie Quinn was dead. It turned out her father Carl Wheatley, 31, had savagely beaten her to death. Other shocking details also emerged: Wheatley had wanted her so he would get more money. Earlier, the supermarket worker had bragged to a colleague about the increased benefits he would get if he won custody over one of his four children, such as a two-bedroom house and £1,700 ($3,530). He broke her teeth, then searched for glue When police discovered the girl's body on March 12 last year, Alexa-Marie was riddled with 66 different injuries. They concluded she had died from extreme blunt-force trauma. Wheatley, from Hertfordshire in southern England, had called the police on the morning of the fatal attack, after Alex-Marie was dead for several hours. The court heard he tried to conceal Alexa-Marie's injuries, going on the Internet to search on "how to reduce swelling" and "what glue can I use to put teeth back in". He pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denied murdering his daughter. Sadistic attack While psychiatrists said that Wheatley suffered from several mental health disorders, the judge described Wheatley's "final and fatal" attack on Alexa-Marie as "relentless and sadistic and to a horrifying degree". Wheatley was sentenced to life imprisonment and will only be considered for release after 21 years. - See more at: http://www.tnp.sg/news/world-news/man-kills-daughter-3-months-after-winning-custody#sthash.N4AXscxj.dpuf

Summary. Due to the revised workweek from 5 days to 6 days scheme. Many bus drivers have less OT opportunity, therefore their potential $2000(with OT) salary, is now reduced to $1400(no opportunity for OT) per month. So they decided today shall be Report Sick day.(Not strike hor) This reminds me of the army days...where many also report sick on the days of Siong exercises or activities. SMRT

From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/premium/forum-...llowed-20130301 CHILDCARE CENTRES Should sick kids be allowed in? Published on Mar 01, 2013 MY HUSBAND and I heard from our friends that children sent to childcare centres tend to fall ill frequently, at least in the initial months. As first-time parents, we are concerned and anxious about sending our daughter to a childcare centre. We visited three centres and inquired about their guidelines on admitting children who are unwell. All three centres said they would admit a sick child as long as he does not run a fever higher than 38 deg C. The child would be admitted even if he were having a runny nose or cough, or on medication such as antibiotics. The centres said they were running a business; if they adhered to the Government's "grey" guidelines and barred a sick child from class, working parents would be upset. They would then remove their children from the centres and put them in more "tolerant" centres. We were appalled to hear this. Wouldn't everyone benefit if parents and centres practised social responsibility by not allowing a sick child into the class, where he might spread the illness to other children? Aren't parents granted childcare leave to look after their sick children? I hope to hear from the relevant authorities on the health guidelines for childcare centres. Helen Chong Xu Rong (Ms)

Man molests 9-year-old at shopping centre toilet The crime occurred inside a shopping mall toilet along Rivervale Crescent. Police arrested the suspect within four hours of receiving notice. Wed, Feb 22, 2012 AsiaOne SINGAPORE - A 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly molesting a 9-year-old boy inside a male toilet of a shopping mall along Rivervale Crescent on February 19. The police received notice of the incident at about 1.30pm on February 21 and apprehended the suspect within four hours of the report being made. The suspect was caught after the police examined the CCTV footage at the shopping mall and managed to establish the identity of the molester. He was then arrested in the vicinity of the shopping mall at about 5.30pm on February 21. Investigations are still on-going. Under the law, an act of outrage of modesty carries an imprisonment term of up to five years, fine, caning, or any combination of the three. The police advised parents to maintain a close watch over their young children in public places, and to make a police report immediately if they suspect a crime has been committed.

BERLIN - Maxi is seven years old. If he were a person, not a cat, he would be a young-looking guy in his mid-40s. Thomas, a student in Hanover, adopted Maxi from an animal shelter, and loves Maxi so much that he found the money for a kidney transplant when his four-pawed pal would otherwise have died. The whole thing cost Thomas 15,000 euros [about $20,000], including the flight to the United States, where the operation took place. http://globalpublicsquare.blogs.cnn.com/20...pet/?hpt=hp_mid Personal experience: recently, our child's pet rabbit cant eat or drink and went into renal failure stayed in animal hospital for 5 days had x-rays, supportive treatment, dental treatment the entire episode cost us: $2500 the rabbit was a rescue rabbit (she was picked up and had skin disease which we treated and cost us about $1200 two years ago) so where do we draw the line? any opinion?

A salesman was jailed for six months and fined $2,500 on Thursday for criminal trespass and intentional harassment. Jasmond Ong Chun Wee, 31, admitted to two charges of trespassing into a kindergarten and a childcare centre and two of causing alarm and defacing the walls of the childcare toilet. Two other similar charges were considered. The court heard that he felt sexually aroused on April 7 this year and entered the PAP Kindergarten in Pasir Ris Drive 6 to write obscene messages on the classroom whiteboard. He left after masturbating for a few minutes. Then on Aug 1, he felt a sexual urge. He went to Nissi Childcare, also in Pasir Ris, to act out his fantasies of having sex with young girls, drinking their urine and eating their faeces. http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_730124.html
