  1. Expects delay in iPhone5 second batch delivery ..... Massive brawl at Apple supplier's factory About 5,000 police officers are called to stop the fight involving 2,000 workers at the Chinese plant. Yahoo report : Foxconn plant closed in China after workers brawl A Foxconn factory in China, which assembles Apple's iPhones, has shut down for an indeterminate period after about 2,000 workers were involved in a brawl at a dormitory. The plant was closed Monday and it is not clear how long the shutdown will last. Foxconn said the trouble started with a personal fight that blew up into a brawl. But some people said they had heard factory guards had beaten workers, sparking the uproar. These accounts could not be independently verified. The unrest is the latest in a string of incidents at plants run by Foxconn. The company has faced accusations of poor working conditions and mistreatment of workers at its operations in China, where it employs about 1 million people. Authorities told Foxconn that about 40 people were taken to hospital and a number were arrested. link : http://sg.news.yahoo.com/video/foxconn-pla...-155204421.html

  3. Fiat Chrysler Automobile has chosen transmission manufacturer ZF as its supplier for its upcoming rear- and all-wheel drive vehicles with front-longitudinal engine configuration. “We are pleased being nominated as global transmission supplier by FCA. This is our second major order for the new 8HP and it confirms our strategy to focus on plug-in hybrids as an every-day solution and to develop attractive products in these areas,” ZF Chief Executive Wolf-Henning Scheider said. The new automatic gearbox is equipped with an integrated electric drive and can be used in plug-in hybrid vehicles that FCA plans to produce. While the company has not declared which of its models will get the transmission, it is expected to find its way into some of the company’s bigger cars. To be built at ZF's factory in Germany, production of the new gearbox is scheduled to start in 2022 and will also be manufactured in other locations such as the United States and China at a later date. According to ZF, FCA's deal with them is the second largest order in its history while its largest single order happened with BMW just three months before this.

  6. http://online.wsj.com/articles/zf-trw-aim-to-provide-bundles-of-high-tech-parts-to-make-cars-smart-1411009052 http://online.wsj.com/articles/trw-agrees-to-11-7-billion-sale-1410790179 http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-09-15/zf-to-buy-trw-in-11-7-billion-deal-to-create-no-2-in-car-parts.html This is the most talk about issue of 2014 in the automotive industry. The rivalry of these 2 automotive parts giant have come to a happy conclusion with ZF acquiring TRW to form the world's #2 automotive parts supplier trailing only behind Bosch. The acquisition would have been unexpected years ago will help to churn out more automotive parts with more competitive prices. For many who are not aware, ZF is the one who designed and produced the 8 speed transmissions for BMW and Landrovers. The 9 speed transmission for the L/R Evoque. The shock absorbers and clutches and transmission makers for Porsche PASM and PDK. Porsche and BMW merely buy their transmission and shock absorbers and suspension parts etc from ZF and rebrand it as their own. I wonder how this is going to affect us as consumers. hmm.. sounds promising.
  7. I did a search in MCF and the response are quite dated. Anyway, I wanna have a bar b. Any good recommendations?
  8. http://www.humanleather.co.uk/index.html You have to check this website out. I can't even copy-paste from the website easily as right-clicking is disabled. I still can't figure out if it's legit or just an elaborate deadpan hoax. And yet I feel oddly tempted to get a human leather wallet - if only the prices weren't so high (upwards of $14,000 USD).
  9. And you thought you have heard or seen it all... From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1235760/1/.html Meat supplier fined for passing off beef as mutton Posted: 07 November 2012 1328 hrs SINGAPORE: A meat supplier has been fined S$4,000 for passing off beef as mutton in its minced and chopped meat product. Basha Meat Supplier Pte Ltd was investigated by the National Environment Agency (NEA) and the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) following public feedback. The two agencies had tested the DNA of various samples of minced and chopped meat sold by Basha Meat Supplier as mutton. Beef was found in the samples. The supplier was brought to court November 6 where it was fined by the court under the Sale of Food Act. NEA said before the court's decision, it had been monitoring Basha's products, and subsequent samples did not uncover any beef in meat sold as mutton. In a media statement, NEA said on October 9 a similar deterrent sentence was passed to another meat supplier - Nabisha Mutton Supplier. NEA and AVA had tested the DNA of various samples of minced and chopped meat sold by Nabisha Mutton Supplier as mutton. Beef was found in the samples. The court fined Nabisha S$5,000, which is the maximum penalty for the first offence under the Sale of Food Act. NEA said the AVA is reviewing the maximum penalties specified under the Sale of Food Act to serve as a greater deterrent to offenders. This is part of its current review of the Act to look at other measures to enhance food safety. - CNA/fa
  10. Hi guys, Appreciate if anyone can suggest a place to buy plywood shelving for my metal rack. I need 4 pieces of 4ft by 1.5ft planks. Are there any ways to make them resistant to worms? I using something similar to below pic, have disposed planks as they were infested with worms. The worms burrow into wood ply and then slowly turn them to crumble. Thanks.

  12. Feb 22, 2011 Seafood supplier charged with giving $1m in bribes By Elena Chong Tay is said to have given bribes of between $232 and $24,143 between 2006 and 2009 to chefs of popular Chinese restaurants and five-star hotels to advance his company's business by ensuring that they continued to buy seafood products from his company. -- ST PHOTO: WONG KWAI CHOW A SEAFOOD supplier was brought to court on Tuesday for corruptly giving bribes totalling about $992,000 to 19 chefs. Tay Ee Tiong, 55, owner of Wealthy Seafood Product and Enterprise, is the first to be charged, following a 2009 probe by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau into more than 20 top chefs who allegedly accepted the kickbacks. Tay, who faces 223 charges, is said to have given bribes of between $232 and $24,143 between 2006 and 2009 to chefs of popular Chinese restaurants and five-star hotels to advance his company's business by ensuring that they continued to buy seafood products from his company. The chefs were from 17 restaurants. Among them are PFS Pte Ltd, Shangri-La Hotel, Meritus Mandarin, Marriott Hotel, Goodwood Park Hotel, Grand Hyatt, Four Seasons Hotel, Sheraton Hotel and Por Kee Eating House. In 11 charges, Tay allegedly conspired with Leung Wing Hoi, then Shangri-La's Chinese banquet chef, to hand over bribes amounting to $32,137 to its executive chef Peter Tsung Kang Hung between 2007 and 2009, to advance Wealthy Seafood's business interest. Mr Choo Si Sen is representing Tay, who is on $30,000 bail. The case was adjourned to April 21 for a pre-trial conference. If convicted, Tay faces a fine of up to $100,000 and/or a jail term of up to five years on each charge. Seems like the chefs didn't bother to feed the juniors, hence kena reported to CPIB.
  13. I thought this might be one of the websites with very comprehensive breakdown of most car parts. They keep stock for many cars at reasonable prices. They probably are unaware of those stripped down Asian models we have here. Maybe the shipping charges for larger items sometimes deter people buying from them. But when parts are locally unavailable or when workshops/dealers are charging through their nose, this can be another considered source. They do offer other better alternative parts (I got from them AKEBONO brake pads used in Lexus and am very happy). http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/catalog.php

  15. Michelin has now made a solid proposal to the FIA after weeks of speculation linking the French tyre supplier with a return to formula one. A Bloomberg report said chief executive Michel Rollier wants an official response soon, with one of the conditions being rule changes to show "the environmental dimension". According to Reuters, managing partner Didier Mariton said after a shareholders' meeting that Michelin will only return if it has a rival tyre supplier to compete with. But Rollier brief reporters that Michelin is prepared to be the only supplier next year as long as the rules allow other companies to also offer their tyres to teams. Source: GMM

  18. Have a German supplier in town so it was my turn to drive around on my car, a Skoda Superb 1.8T. My business partner, a loyal Toyota fan, never thought much about my wheels, but when the German supplier sat in my car, he was saying I was a smart guy to get the Skoda Superb, as he owns the current and previous VW Passat and some Audi's in his life. We went on to discuss about the Skoda and how they have VW + Audi parts in the car and the 1.8T engine was from the Audi range of 1.8T engines, from than my business partner was leaning forward and asking alot of question, so our German supplier went on to say this is the best value for money car you can buy on the road, really good and worth the buy. My friend was impressed and asked me more about the car, all I can say is, wait till you see the new one. My German supplier also mentioned that the new Skoda Superbs are available in Germany and the market of Skoda brands are growing, if not for the company VW Passat, he would have gone for a Skoda Superb II.

  20. Hi all, If you intend to order a set of embossed number plate and holder (with customised letterings), you can approach MRS Signs at Hoy Fatt Road. I have corresponded with Mr Owyong. He has kindly agreed to accord the special price of $45 for all Skoda owners. Before you head down to MRS, please PM me so that I can alert the branch manager, Winson, to accord the special price when you place your order. MRS Signs has been the preferred licence plate supplier for Premium Automobiles, Wearnes Automotive Group. Unlike some suppliers which use cheap and heavy plates, MRS uses aluminium plates imported from Germany.
