Anyone using e-ink tablet specifically for note taking? Any feedback or recommendation? I always find e-ink display easier on the eye than conventional LCD / LED screen, and having seen people taking notes on such devices during a seminar I have attended recently, I started to do some read up and is toying with the idea to get one, to better organize my physical notes. 2 models I am particularly interested are the Kindle Scribe and Boox Note Air 2 Plus. Both spotting a 10.3" screen and are priced in the $600 region, which are not cheap honestly (many choices of tablet with that kind of budget), but it may be able to improve my productivity if they serve the purpose. Kindle Scribe https://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Scribe-the-first-Kindle-for-reading-writing-journaling-and-sketching/dp/B09BS26B8B Boox Note Air 2 Plus https://shop.boox.com/products/noteair2 Primary usage of the device would be note taking and reading in pdf format, and I don't need fanciful add-ons such as speaker, mic, ability to play music or video. Please share your opinion. TIA.

Just sharing some tips, my friends and I learnt from our experiences. First, choice: - right now you have no other choice, and that's not a bad thing, because the Pfizer vaccine is the front runner and thus far, millions of doses have been given and the frequency of side effects has been well documented and within control. Realistically there will be some issues, even potential fatalities, but it's also important to see the details, because it may not be a direct result of the vaccine or the jab. Do it now as you might get the sinovac, unless you're up for it - we also excel at logistics and the cold chain will be pretty much assured in SG Location: - if you're in healthcare, you'll probably do it in a hospital / clinic setting. That's good. If you have a choice, do it where there are resuscitation facilities. If you're going to a clinic, make sure they can rescue you if you do go into anaphylaxis What's that you say: "Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that is rapid in onset and may cause death. It typically causes more than one of the following: an itchy rash, throat or tongue swelling, shortness of breath, vomiting, lightheadedness, low blood pressure. These symptoms typically come on over minutes to hours." - Timing: Choose a day where you have a couple of days where you might have a lighter schedule The reaction can be mild or you may have some arm ache, flu symptoms or even have more reactions. So don't schedule something heavy on the same day, or the day after. Be prepared to sleep like a log after. Avoid heavy lifting for a couple of days Also make sure you have friends or family who can check in on you after the jab, especially those who are living alone - What to prepare: I'll suggest taking a panadol or NSAID before the jab, so the aches are less - How do you feel right after: the arm ache doesn't start immediately, but when I took it in the afternoon, you feel like the flu is coming, this happened after dinner, and I went to bed early to sleep I woke up with a bit of soreness, and arm ache, and it continues through the day. Typically it last for a couple of days or so - What else to bring? Bring a camera! Take a pic of the event, share it 🙂 - you'll be monitored for about 30 min. Bring your phone and a drink, you have to pass time away, and it will be boring without a book or phone to while the time away.. - you'll get a card, keep it in your wallet. Don't put it in or fold it immediately the ink tends to run For others who have gone for it, do share your experiences too cheers Do your part for herd immunity!

Not too sure what's the context of the video below but it's been circulating in car groups and WhatsApp chats since this morning. Asking for it In this short 20-second clip, a wrecked car with a popped-up bonnet ran headfirst into the rear of a stationary Honda Civic. According to online sources, this incident occurred at Midview City. Considering the number of repair shops located there, online chatter suggests that a workshop personnel was behind the wheel of that wrecked vehicle. Moments of convenience, hundreds (or thousands) of dollars in claims The real question here - Is it even legal to drive this wrecked car around at all? Although it may be a short distance to a nearby workshop within Midview City's compound, the car's condition suggests that it would have been unwise to drive it. Given its current state, it should be towed to the workshop directly. See lah, kay kiang drive this damaged car around, now kena accident. Some people might say that the Honda Civic should have parked his car at a proper parking lot instead of alongside the road. However, it may be ridiculous to attribute any fault to the Honda Civic for this silly accident. Regardless, I hope the Honda Civic's owner can claim for the damages. Netizens' comments Was it worth it tho?😪 HA HA HA. Don't anyhow bring in cyclists, it is a sensitive topic. There's not even a single bicycle in sight. All the best to the Civic driver. I hope the dashcam footage serves you well. --- Thinking of selling your car? sgCarMart Quotz guarantees the highest selling price for your car. Singapore Press Holdings launches second perpetual note this year at 4.25% IPG source: https://secure.fundsupermart.com/fsm/article/view/rcms201742/singapore-press-holdings-launches-second-perpetual-note-this-year-at-4-25-ipg Singapore Press Holdings, a leading media company and property owner, returns to the SGD market with a NC5.5 perpetual note. Singapore Press Holdings Limited (“SPH”) has announced a perpetual note offering at an initial price guidance (“IPG”) of 4.25%. Both the issuer and the perpetual note are not rated by rating agencies. Similar to the SPHSP 4.500% Perpetual Corp (SGD), the terms and conditions of the perp follow those mentioned in SPH’s S$1 billion multicurrency debt issuance program dated 2 May 19. The note’s first call date is 12 May 2025. If the perp is not called on its first call date, the distribution rate would reset (in May 2025 and every five years thereafter) to the sum of the prevailing 5-year SGD swap offer rate (“SOR”), the initial spread, and the step-up margin of 100 basis points (“bps”). We provide our quick view on the issuer’s credit profile and bond pricing. Recent highlights SPH is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year and has grown to be a leading media company in Asia. The group’s flagship newspaper, The Straits Times, recently won five awards at the 2019 Asian Digital Media Awards including best in social media engagement. The awards seek to recognize the best publishers in each region. This year, there were altogether a total of 151 entries from 24 media companies at the Asian edition of the World Digital Media awards. Net profit increased significantly to S$171m in the three months ending 31 Aug 19 (“4QFY19”), from S$36m in 3QFY19. This was largely driven by a fair value gain from its investment properties of S$95m during the quarter. Total revenue, however, declined marginally to S$241m from S$249 in the preceding quarter. The media group recently announced that it will reduce 5% of jobs in its media division as part of its effort to streamline operations. After the restructuring exercise, staff costs will likely decreased from the present level of S$82m in 4QFY19. Recurring income from properties is expected to grow. After adding GBP134m of assets in April, SPH has become one of the leading players in the purpose-built student accommodation sector in the UK. Income from the UK properties would expand if more international students, particularly Chinese students, continue to pursue higher education in the UK. Revenues would also increase if the pound continues to strengthen against the Singapore dollar. In addition, SPH would likely recognize more recurring revenue from its stake in Prime US REIT. In July, SPH invested approximately USD60m for a 7.38% stake in the IPO of Prime US REIT, and shortly thereafter exercised its option to acquire a 20% interest in the manager of the REIT. Operating cash flows also improved during the fiscal fourth quarter. Net cash flow from operating activities (“CFO”) swung from -S$42m in 3QFY19 to positive S$49m in 4QFY19, although CFO remained negative and nearly at the same level of -S$17m in FY19 and FY18. Compared to the previous quarter, CFO improved in 4QFY19 mainly because of the absence of a dividend payment. SPH has a healthy liquidity position. The group’s cash position surged from S$206m in 3QFY19 to S$554m in the latest fiscal quarter. This level of cash and cash equivalents is more than sufficient to cover its short-term debt of S$411m. When measured over current liabilities, SPH’s cash ratio increased from 22% in 3QFY19 to 82% in 4QFY19. The group’s leverage, defined as total debt (including perpetual securities) over trailing twelve month (“TTM”) EBITDA, climbed from 5.0x in TTM 3QFY19 to 5.8x in FY19 (5.4x if we exclude the S$150m SPHSP 4.5% perp). The drop in EBITDA from S$434m in TTM 3QFY19 to S$383m in FY19 contributed to the increase in debt multiple. Furthermore, an increase in non-current bank loans also pushed the gearing ratio higher. In June, Straits Capitol Trust, which was indirectly wholly owned by SPH, entered into a facility agreement with OCBC and Standard Chartered Bank (Singapore) for a GBP205m (S$355m) secured term loan. The loan was secured by mortgages against 20 purpose-built student accommodation properties in the UK, and a corporate guarantee from SPH. Our measure of the group’s interest coverage ability weakened slightly in FY19. Adjusted EBITDA (EBITDA minus capital expenditures) over finance cost dropped from 9.3x in TTM 3QFY19 to 8.3x in FY19. We think this was driven by lower top-line growth that weighed on TTM EBITDA. Bond pricing During 4QFY19, SPH issued a S$150m perpetual note with the first call and reset date on 7 Jun 24. The reset rate is the sum of the prevailing 5-year SGD SOR, the initial spread of 261.2 bps, and the step-up margin of 100bps. The SPHSP 4.500% Perpetual Corp (SGD) was priced on 30 May 19 and issued on 6 Jun 19. The initial price guidance for that perp was 4.75%, which eventually tightened to 4.5%. The note was well received by the market with an order book in excess of S$800m. SPH REIT, the 70%-owned subsidiary of SPH, also issued the SPHRSP 4.100% Perpetual Corp (SGD) in August. The SPH REIT 4.1% perp was priced on 23 Aug 19 at an IPG of 4.30% that tightened to a coupon rate of 4.1%. Demand for the note was also high as the order book reached over S$1.3 billion for the S$300m issue. Unlike the SPH 4.5% perp, SPH REIT’s 4.1% perp does not have an embedded dividend pusher clause, which prohibits the issuer from deferring distributions to bondholders if it had paid dividends during a specified period. The ask yields to call (“YTC”) on the SPH and SPH REIT perps have been falling since their issue dates (see Figure 1). The YTCs of the SPH 4.5% perp and SPH REIT 4.1% perp have dropped to 3.80% and 3.83% respectively as of this writing, with corresponding ask bond prices of 102.90 and 101.12. The drop in yields may be a reflection of the group’s healthy liquidity profile, cost cuts and improvement in operating income. Figure 1: YTC and prices of the SPH and SPH REIT perps Compared to the other SGD perpetual notes of similar first call dates, we think that the new SPHSP perp, at its IPG of 4.25%, is attractively priced among non-bank issuers (see Figure 2). The 4.25% IPG would rank at the higher end among perps of issuers with similar leverage. We have assumed an issue size between S$300m to S$500m for the new SPH perp, for us to calculate the pro forma adjusted debt (including perpetual securities) over asset of SPH post-issuance. The FPLSP 4.980% Perpetual Corp (SGD) of Frasers Property Limited (“FPL”) has an ask YTC of 4.28%. The 46% debt-to-asset ratio of FPL is meaningfully higher than SPH’s 35.6%, assuming the new SPH perp has an issue size of S$500m. On the other hand, FPL has a much larger scale with total assets of S$33.6 billion, versus SPH’s S$7.1 billion. Assuming the final pricing of the new SPH perp doesn’t tighten to less than 4%, we think it provides decent value against the FPLSP 4.98% perp. Figure 2: SGD non-bank perpetuals of similar first call dates Declaration: For specific disclosure, at the time of publication of this report, IFPL (via its connected and associated entities) and the analyst who produced this report hold a NIL position in the abovementioned securities.

https://www.asiaone.com/singapore/footage-50000-home-cameras-hacked-and-sold-porn-sites?utm_source=whatsapp&utm_medium=social-media&utm_campaign=addtoany Security cameras in Singapore homes have been hacked, with the footage stolen and shared online. Clips from the hacked footage have been uploaded on pornographic sites recently, with several explicitly tagged as being from Singapore. The videos, which can last from under a minute to more than 20 minutes, feature couples, breastfeeding mothers and even children. Most of them are in various states of undress or compromising positions. Many faces can be clearly seen in locations such as the living room and bedrooms. Some are seen using the toilet with the door ajar.

Imagine parking your car like you passed your driving test on the first try and then returning to your car with this note on the windscreen - Did you really park like an idiot? Who left the note? Did they get hurt while getting out of their car from the passenger side? So many questions. To the car camera for answers. Here’s our supposedly wronged and potentially injured party arriving in an MX-5. Very good choice of car. After 30 seconds of parking and having to exit the car from the passenger side, the lady comes out to take a photo of the “offending” Volvo S60. She spends about 10 seconds taking photos of the car from multiple angles. We know the Volvo S60 looks good from any angle. After walking one round inspecting the car like it was at the front gate of an army camp, she leaves her note. Did the Volvo driver park like an idiot? Well here’s the tea. I can hear you screaming: “Lies! The driver probably took this photo at another lot! No way someone will park in that spot! Not even the nimble Miata!” Here’s the other photo. At least the Volvo driver was nice enough to mask out the MX-5’s plate. Here’s the full video uploaded on SG Road Vigilante: And “Sanctimonious” means “making a show of being morally superior to other people.” ----------------------------------------------- Impressed by how the MX-5 can fit into snug places? Here are some for sale. Or maybe you're leaning more on the innocent Volvo S60? We've got you covered here too! -----------------------------------------------

A documentary video from CNA Insider showing us about the explosive facts of overcharging a bargain-price lithium-ion battery. This applies to mobile phone and other batteries that are lithium-ion. But PMD' owners, please take note. You guys have higher risk involved. Due to the sheer size of the batteries. So you must be wondering, how dangerous it can be right? CNA Insider has gotten a professor from NUS, Dr Palani Balaya to demonstrate how overcharging lithium-ion batteries can be dangerous. So here's a lithium-ion cell This cell should take 3 volts to charge. Let's ramp it up to 5 volts! ⚡️ Okay. Something is growing. . . For those who are watching the video, fret not. No need to move back from your screen. Do you notice the smoke? More smoke. And it goes. . . Kabooz!!!! Oh my goodness!@#$%!@#$ So imagine this is multiplied to the size of a scooter. To avoid all these mishaps, please look out for battery certification. For the full video, please watch from here. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/for-sg50-a-new-range-of-s/2057720.html?cid=fbsg SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong unveiled a set of commemorative currency notes to celebrate SG50 on Tuesday (Aug 18). The set includes a S$50 polymer note and five S$10 polymer notes. The notes’ designs drew inspiration from significant milestones and achievements in Singapore's history, the multiracialism that defines Singapore as a nation and the values and aspirations that underpin Singapore's progress. For example, the S$50 note highlights Singapore's history, transformation and future. It shows the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew shouting 'Merdeka!' - the rallying cry of Singapore's independence struggle. However, the current Prime Minister said: "Even as we reflect on our past we must also look to the future." Hence the addition of a note depicted Singapore's latest new town - Punggol - which he said symbolises the continuing renewal of our homes and communities. Mr Lee said this is Singapore's responsibility: To build on the legacy of our pioneers and carry on their vision to make Singapore our best home. The notes make use of the colour gold, reflecting Singapore's jubilee. Both the S$50 and S$10 notes have security features that are the first of their kind in the world to be used on a currency note. The security stripe in the S$50 note has a unique see-through feature with image movement effects that give depth to the image of Mr Lee Kuan Yew. The SG50 logo also has colour-switching effects, with the year flipping from 1965 to 2015. The notes were designed by four local artists and designers. The public can exchange the SG50 commemorative notes at face value at branches of nine major retail banks from Aug 20. They include DBS Bank/POSB, Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation, United Overseas Bank, Citibank, Standard Chartered Bank, Bank of China, HSBC, Malayan Banking Berhad, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. To ensure that everyone has an opportunity to exchange the SG50 commemorative notes, there will be a quota of five sets of notes per transaction per individual. BANKS EXTEND HOURS United Overseas Bank (UOB) and DBS said on Tuesday that they will be extending banking hours and setting up dedicated queues for the exchange of the commemorative notes. Both banks will also provide priority assistance for the elderly and those with special needs. UOB will deploy more customer service officers to help answer questions and to take orders from customers who are in queue. At some DBS/POSB outlets located near food and beverage outlets, note-exchangers will be offered complimentary beverages in the event that their wait is longer than expected, the bank said. Banking hours at all full-service DBS/POSB branches will be extended until 8pm on weekdays from Aug 20 for two weeks. For UOB, 26 branches located in heartland areas and key town centres will have their hours extended to 7pm on weekdays during the first week of the exchange period. UOB customers can also reserve their commemorative notes online at www.uob.com.sg/sg50notes from Aug 20 onwards and collect them later at a pre-determined branch of their choice, UOB added. - CNA/ek

Want to avoid being slapped? Buy a Nissan Note e-Power
chitchatboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Nissan has come up with an interesting ad for its new Nissan Note e-Power. Marketed as an solution to in-car abuse, the car can help save drivers from being hurt by their passengers. While the driver abuse problem shown in the ad is obviously fictional, it is still true that some drivers on the road have poor control over their braking and will tend to stomp on the brake pedal harder and later than they should when coming to a stop. Using the Note's regenerative braking function, Nissan reckons that it can help smoothen out the braking process and in turn prevent passengers from having a uncomfortable ride. The Note e-Power is not available in Singapore and is a full electric vehicle. The compact hatch retains its 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine which acts solely as a generator to charge the batteries. It is rated at 109bhp and has 254Nm of torque. It will also do 34km/L according to Japan's JC08 test-cycle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=29&v=ybFVtpLovvo -

In case some of you may not notice, some observations recently : 1. Traffic Red Light Camera now doubles as a Speed Camera mostly 50-60 km/h limit. So when driving through these junctions please observe the speed limit even its Green. 2. At some junctions, Pedestrian 'GO' Green Light seem to be On earlier (by a few sec) than the corresponding Vehicle Green Light. So please only proceed upon 'Green' traffic light instead of Pedestrian 'Green' light. Some of us have been conditioned to proceed with either of the Green lights on. So be careful! Any others ?

If anyone had bought new LG mobile phones, pls take note. I dont know if it is just my family or is LG phones' motherboard issue. My family have 4 LG phones, my G4 and 3 V10 for my children, the motherboard of my G4 gave up its will to live after 10 months with me. I took it back to LG service centre and a new one was replaced. Last month, after CNY, with 11 months of usage, one V10 gave up, took it back and motherboard replaced. This morning a 2nd V10 is down, totally cannot boot up and I suspect is motherboard again. This one is one week left before warranty expire. I just told the 3rd V10 to stand by and back up everything, prepare for the last one to join the dead club, only different is this last one may be out of warranty. 75% down rate within a year for LG, while we have no problem with iphones and Samsung phones, could it be our handling of the phone? Anyway, I just wanted to highlight to anyone holding a new LG phone, back up your stuffs, the phone may just shut down permanently without warning. And now I have to sign out and drive to the LG service centre again.

By JONATHAN CHENG and EUN-YOUNG JEONG in Seoul and TRISHA THADANI in San Francisco Updated Oct. 10, 2016 3:33 a.m. ET10 COMMENTS Samsung Electronics Co. has temporarily halted production of its troubled Galaxy Note 7, according to a person familiar with the matter, the latest setback for the South Korean technology giant as it struggles to manage a recall of 2.5 million smartphones. The move comes after a spate of fresh reports of overheating and fires with phones that have been distributed to replace the original devices, which also had a risk of catching fire. In a statement Monday in Seoul, Samsung said that it was “temporarily adjusting the Galaxy Note 7 production schedule in order to take further steps to ensure quality and safety matters,” without elaborating. The production halt underscores the growing seriousness with which Samsung is dealing with its largest product recall to date. Last month, Samsung officials shrugged off reports of overheated batteries, calling the incidents “isolated cases” related to issues of mass production. In a separate statement a few days later, the company said in response to reports about abnormal battery charging levels in its replacement phones that “the issue does not pose a safety concern.” While Samsung hasn’t confirmed the latest reports of problems with its replacement phones, it said in a statement Sunday that it was working with authorities including the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to investigate the new incidents. http://www.wsj.com/articles/samsung-to-halt-galaxy-note-7-production-temporarily-1476064520

Photos of a hybrid version of the Nissan Note have ended up on the web and according to Carscoops, the Note might have a range-extender variant similar to BMW's i3. First seen on a Japanese website, the supermini is said to use electric motors to set the car in motion, while the small internal combustion engine acts as a generator to recharge the battery pack only. The actual specifications of the car is still not available yet but we will not have to wait long as the car is said to be unveiled in the coming months. It is not expected to go on sale elsewhere other than in Japan. While the hybrid powertrain might not make it out of Japan, the facelifted version of the Note is likely to make it to our shores. Obvious differences include the redesigned headlights, grill and bumper with larger fog lights.
