  2. Nokia 8 officially launches in Singapore at S$769 http://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/tech-news-nokia-8-officially-launches-singapore-s769 The Nokia 8 will officially begin retail in Singapore at S$769, starting on 14th October 2017. Color variants are Polished Blue, Tempered Blue, and Steel. Here’s HMD Global’s official stance on the Nokia 8’s competitive sticker price in Singapore: “We understand consumers enjoy the experience of a pure Android smartphone and with the Nokia 8 at under SGD 800, we are offering more consumers that experience and the full features and capabilities of our Nokia flagship smartphone.” – James Rutherfoord, VP at HMD Global, APAC. Here’s a quick recap on the phone. It comes with a flagship-tier processor – Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 – and the latest stock Android operating system, Android 8.0 OS (Oreo). HMD Global is partnering Zeiss optics for the dual-rear cameras on the Nokia 8; the lens-making firm provides consultation and quality testing. The primary rear camera shoots in regular RGB format, while its secondary rear shooter snaps in monochrome - similar to Huawei's flagship phones. Besides its unique “Bothfie” livestreaming feature where it simultaneously engages both front and rear cameras, the phone also packs Nokia’s 360-degree audio software, OZO Audio.
  3. Nokia brings back iconic 8110 'banana phone' Feb 26, 2018 BARCELONA/HELSINKI - Seeking to capitalise on their comeback over the past year, the makers of Nokia phones are expanding to include a premium Android smartphone, their first, and a remake of one of its biggest hits of the 1990s, the 8110 "slider" phone. Set up by ex- Nokia executives who have licensed the famous brand, HMD Global - as the year-old company is known - has focused on mid-priced Androids and even sub-$100-priced phones since entering the smartphone market. Chief Executive Florian Seiche said HMD has sold around 30 million phones after introducing 11 new phone models over the past year. On Sunday, it announced two new models, plus refreshed versions of three phones first offered last year. "We feel great about the momentum we had in 2017 and that gives us the confidence to double down in 2018," Seiche told reporters at a briefing in London ahead of the product launch. Mobile phone market tracker Counterpoint Research said Nokia phones surged during 2017 to become the world's No. 1 seller of low-cost feature phones and No. 11 in smartphones after only entering the market last year. On a combined basis, Nokia now ranks as the No. 6 mobile phone seller, Counterpoint calculates. HMD's strategy is to use distribution partnerships with 600 top mobile operators and retailers in selected markets around the world to offer reliable, affordable products with the latest innovations, plus monthly Google security updates on all phones. Europe remains the biggest region for Nokia phones sales, Seiche said; India, Russia and Indonesia are its biggest country markets. The Nokia 8 is the company's flagship phone, priced at 749 euros (S$1,215) and designed to compete with Samsung's and Huawei's premium models. A new, 4G-ready version of Nokia's 8110 is priced at 79 euros. Nokia 8 is available in April, the revamped 8110 in May. The 1990s throwback model comes in two colour choices, classic black or banana yellow, a play on how its keyboard slid out, inspiring the nickname "banana phone". Nokia Corp, once the world's dominant phone maker, sold its handset business to Microsoft in 2014 and is now focused on telecom network equipment. HMD took over the Nokia feature phone business from Microsoft in 2016 and struck a deal with Nokia Oyj to use the brand on smartphones. http://www.asiaone.com/digital/nokia-phones-look-future-and-past?xtor=EREC-16-4[Emarsys_Newsletter]-20180226&extid=6934d0cfb7b252f1ae9f0dbddf5ff88ca8637e77
  4. It's back and it's 3G :) http://www.straitstimes.com/tech/nokia-phones-officially-return-to-singapore-in-october-with-launch-of-retro-favourite-nokia SINGAPORE - After a three-year hiatus, Nokia mobile phones are officially returning to target Singapore consumers. The first of them is the revamped version of the classic Nokia 3310. The talk-and-text-centric phone from the year 2000 will be on sale here in October, and will work on Singapore telcos' 3G networks. The Straits Times understands the handset will go for less than $100 at all major retail outlets here, making Singapore one of the first in the world to sell this 3G-compatible "dumb" phone. Finnish start-up HMD Global, which owns rights to the Nokia brand, believes that demand will come from consumers wanting to relive their nostalgia, and parents of young children. The redesigned Nokia 3310 was first launched earlier this year in select markets as it worked only on 2G networks. It was not available here as Singapore shut down its 2G networks in April this year. "We underestimated the demand in some markets which are switching off or have switched off their 2G networks (including in) Singapore," an HMD Global spokesman told The Straits Times. It decided to support 3G on 3310 "to allow more people to enjoy a modern classic reborn". http://www.straitstimes.com/tech/smartphones/nokia-relaunches-3310-snake-game-and-6-other-things-about-the-old-and-new-iconic
  5. http://www.desispy.com/technology/we-didnt-do-anything-wrong-but-somehow-we-lost-nokia-ceo-steve-ballmer/551817/ Nokia has been a large and respectable company. They didn’t do anything wrong in their business, be that as it may, the world changed too fast. Their rivals were too capable. Other companies like Samsung, Sony, Intex, Lava, Micromax comes up with advanced features to attract the audience in Mobile Industry. this is a very very expensive and painful lesson even singapore is doing well today we must continue to excel and change else we will be left behind and obsolete
  6. Is Nokia really in decline after a decade of dominance?
  7. Those using iphone, any idea how to set your iphone to use T9 predictive keyboard (the type of keyboard where u type messages in the Nokiia phone) for typing sms or messages? No anti-Apples here by the way. Thank you.

    Nokia 8800

I really remember this phone quite a lot.. When it was released in few years back , I did not really like it as to me at that time , it was a old towkay's phone.. My dad had one.. The Arte edition.. But he misplaced it.. Now , a few years after , I saw someone having it at Raffles Place , and damn.. It looks very elegant.. Compared to the usual iPhones , BBs , and HTCs .. it really stands out.. So.. Has anyone used it before? I used it twice only before my dad misplaced his.. I think I dont mind getting this.. What do you guys think? Comments please.. Kum sia.. [laugh]

  11. Dear Bros / Kakis / Sis of MCF , My dear Blackberry 9000 has successfully started to give problems now due to its old age of 3 and erm.. my rough handling. I am looking for a replacement for this. I will still be keeping this to use as my MY phone.. Important things I look out for in a Phone 1) Camera must be good as I tend to snap anything I see that is nice 2) Email checking must be user friendly 3) MUST be black or a dark colour... So.. This are the models I have considered. Please let me know if there are any other models you guys can recommend.. Thanks [laugh]

    Nokia E7

Hi all, any reviews for Nokia E7? is it going to be another disaster like the N97 cos of the symbian OS? anyone bought and can offer updates?
  13. Nokia workers mourn death of Symbian, thousands walk out We know how you feel about the apparent death of Symbian, and you had to figure that those most affected by it wouldn't be feeling too good either. Those people are, of course, the 1,500-odd workers at Nokia's Tampere office who have crafted the OS through the years, over a thousand of whom apparently walked away from their jobs today as a sort of non-violent protest -- or maybe just to get a preview of what their Friday afternoons will look like once Elop starts dropping the axe. It should be noted that they used their flexible work schedules to enable this, so this is one orderly bit of social dissonance that shouldn't result in any accelerations of whatever layoffs are to come. Source: Engadget Finally, it is game over for Symbian and madness that Nokia will be making Windows Phone, should have bought over Palm instead and use their WebOS.
  14. nice animation.. N8 Stop Motion
  15. Thinking of getting this phone later today, any feedback?
  16. Went down to 2 Nokia service centres. One at Parkway and the other at Century Square and found out that both are no longer in operations. Only the one at Vivio and Causeway are open. I wone be surprised that the one at Wheellock is also game over. This move will make all the Nokia users very inconvenient

  20. I bought my N97 last December and discovered that I could not take proper flash pictures. Put up with the inconvenience for several months till I could not take it anymore and brought it to Nokia at Causeway Point Was attended by a service person by the name of "Ben" . To summarise the conversation I had.... Ben : "Oh...all N97 is like this. See....this is another N97 and the picture is also the same. We could minimise it by putting a black dot on your flash lens to reduce the over exposure " Me : " My previous N series phones all worked very well so why is this latest N97 so bad ? " Ben : "It is like this. We cannot do anything about it. If you bring down your phone, we can help reduce it but not rectify it " Me : " So you are saying that all N97 are made this way and I have to live with it ? " Ben : " Yes ! You bought a phone and not a camera ! " Me : " Okay but can you give me a black & white statement about this N97 poor flash pictures and that Nokia Spore cannot do anything about this ? " Ben : " Of course not ! We will not ! You can check on the website about this. If you are not willing to bring down your phone, we cannot do anything for you " Here is a sample picture taken at a distance ! Close ups are worst ! So much for Nokia phones and the terrible customer service attitudes they have here......I don't think this Ben guy is not even a Singaporean but some Filipino jerk with an attitude makes it worst for the customer ! Talking like machine gun and don't even give me a chance to speak my mind ! Stupid dict !
  21. Apologies if this has been posted. Nokia Maps Navigation is now free. Previously, maps are free but navigation have to pay. Now, both Maps (global maps) and Navi are both free for these phones Nokia X6, Nokia E52, Nokia E72, Nokia N97 mini, Nokia 6710 Navigator, Nokia 6730 classic, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia 5230. If I am not wrong, this makes 5230 the cheapest GPS device? ($28 w/2 yr contract) Source: http://www.nokia.com.sg/explore-services/o...=&HBX_OU=50 Nokia Maps does comes with Singapore postal code search. But may not be the best navi s/w for Singapore. In countries like AU, US which I have used, pretty ok. For Noobs, GPS (Satellite) usage is free. Only if you use AGPS, u incur GPRS charges. This can be disabled in the phone. Dunno how ? Search or RTFM
