  1. When was the last time you used Google Maps? For me, it was just this morning. Since the introduction of the app in 2008, Google Maps has slowly become a navigation aid for millions across the world. For drivers, the app pulls data from other app users on the road at any one time, enabling its algorithms to offer the quickest or most convenient route according to current traffic conditions. You know the app is doing its job when some of the roads on the map turn red, indicating a traffic snarl. When this happens, the app’s algorithms spring into action and will, if it can, offer a better route that takes you around the road congestion. The technology that powers Google Maps recently caught the attention of Artist Simon Weckert. With a deep interest in the digital world, Weckert decided he wanted to find out if 99 smartphones wheeled along in a small cart would create a virtual traffic jam in Google Maps. Walking the streets of Berlin, Germany, with a cart full of borrowed and rented phones all running Google Maps, Weckert's video of the stunt (below) appears to show all of the streets in which he walked turning red on Maps. That's right - he apparently fooled Maps into thinking there was a traffic jam when there wasn't. And as a result, Google Maps re-routed drivers in the area to other streets to avoid the jam (yes, the one that didn't exist). Of course, Weckert couldn't resist passing by Google’s Berlin office, too, creating gridlock (on Maps, at least) with his cart full of smartphones. Next time, don't believe the red line in your google maps. It could just be Simon walking by.

  5. SINGAPORE: A serial prank caller who repeatedly made nuisance calls to the police – despite being jailed for the same offence previously – was sentenced to three years' jail on Thursday (Sep 6). Gurcharan Singh, a 61-year-old cleaner, usually made the 999 calls after drinking alcohol, the court heard. The latest incidents occurred over two days in June this year, with Singh making two calls on the first day and 15 on the second. On Jun 10, Singh called the police using a public phone at a void deck in Chai Chee. As the operator could not hear what he was saying, he asked him to call back with another phone. Singh then told the operator: "You are stupid." When asked what emergency he was calling about, Singh spoke incoherently about immigration and corruption. He also said: "I put one dynamite to the immigration house." He knew this message to be false, Deputy Public Prosecutor Daphne Lim said. 13. http://www.theage.com.au/world/penis-prank...0608-1frml.html England has the Cerne Abbas giant and the Uffington White Horse, Peru has the Nazca Lines and now a Waikato school, rather unfortunately, has been captured with its own aerial art - six giant phallic symbols. The prank at a Hamilton school has been caught by satellite and immortalised on an internet map potentially seen by millions around the world, stuff.co.nz reports. The satellite picture, taken in May 2009, shows six phallic shapes etched into the grass at Fairfield College, with two by the car park particularly gigantic. Advertisement: Story continues below How many can you spot? Click here for a satellite view. The Fairfield phalluses would no doubt have eventually passed into the twilight of sniggering schoolboy folklore had they not been snapped from space and used to compile the Google map used by millions of web browsers daily. David McQuoid was searching for a property when he came across the surprising snaps. "At first I thought it was a large piece of art work." But acting principal Gerhard van Dyk was not amused and said he would like to have caught the culprits. Unfortunately, the incident had happened on a weekend. By Monday, Mr van Dyk said the caretaker became aware of some of the grass dying, as the x-rated crop circles popped up around the school. It was the prank that kept growing as the grass completely died away and the crude creations of the "artists" were revealed. "There's not really much we could do about it," he said. "The caretaker took some more weedkiller and tried to camouflage it a bit." The rest of the grass was killed, but it was a few months before the rude renderings disappeared. But by then an eye in the sky had snapped these images - which the Times has chosen to cover. Mr van Dyk said he would contact Google. A spokesperson for the internet giant said the Earth images came directly from satellite pictures, unlike the Google Street View shots, which could be blurred for privacy reasons. Netsafe executive director Martin Cocker said he had heard about similar instances of people trying to find infamy but things hung around a lot longer on the web. Usually if the traffic is light, I would get out of the car and remove the obstacle. And also look around for the prankster.

  18. I do not know if this is a new trick. This morning received a call, a chinese speaking lady identified herself as a staff from Spore High Court requesting me to attend a court case on nov.....2007. She explained the nature of the case..... This man .... .... .... (accused) was arrested on July 07 and the police found my details in his book and therefore im implicated in this case. And that i need to prove my innocent. WHAT RUBBISH!. I followed to ask who is the IO of the case. She mentioned a CID man Yo Kee Chong is incharge. Immediately , i requested to speak to him. Soon after, this CID Yo called and again speaks in Chinese. When i requested him to speak in English, he asked me " is it important to speak in English" . Asked of his rank, again rebutted me again. I couldn't take his nonsense, i ask him to hang up the phone unless he speaks in English. He hanged up. His colleage called and refer to the case and again, tried to threaten me not to speak in harsh manner to him. I shouted at him to hang up befor he get into sxxt! He challenged me to call back a number..... I told him to stop their nonsense.Told me i was an ex CID and i will proceed to trace them. Then he shouted back... Good.. you are also CID... and then the phone went silent. He refused to talk, paused for a while , i shoot #@+#@#@#@*** to his ear and hung up. Bloody stupid trick. Unfortunately, i m a gd target. Badness.. If im involved in any case, wouldnt CID had called me much earlier instead of immediate summon to court. SHIOW ! Any investigation would have conducted by then, not now. Any way, i duno what they are up to. May be to catch fearful victim to pay up some fines and likewise.

  22. Few daya ago, received a call from overseas, claiming to be from Taiwan 皇马 Technology. They verified my particulars (of cos, I didnt give them the real one) and hanged up. Then 2 days ago, the same lady called and informed me they had a exhibition in JB, XXX Mall/Shopping Centre. When I asked for the Malay or English name for the mall/SC, she didnt manage to tell. She said each client was given a lucky number, and told me to remember my number. When around evening, she said I got one of the prizes, and needed to go the XXX Mall to collect the prize. I told her off. Nevermind, she said her colleague will contact me today and give me the details on the collection of the prize. Any bro here encounter similar situation ??
