  2. If the neighbors, landlord or social workers have that little bit of kaypoh-ness, the boy might not have died. I will get curious and ask around if I didn't see a particular person for sometime, who knows I might save a live and avoided a tragedy. May the boy and his father rest in peace. Two-year-old boy in England found starved to death, curled up next to his dead father Source: https://www.straitstimes.com/world/europe/two-year-old-boy-in-england-found-starved-to-death-curled-up-next-to-his-dead-father A two-year-old boy in a town in England died of starvation and was found in his pyjamas curled up next to his dead father, who had suffered a heart attack days earlier. A social worker found Bronson Battersby dead on Jan 9, alongside his 60-year-old father Kenneth Battersby, at their home in Skegness, Lincolnshire, two weeks after the two were last seen by a neighbour on Boxing Day, Dec 26. Ms Heather Sandy, executive director of the council’s children services, told the BBC a social worker met Mr Battersby on Dec 27, and a home visit was arranged for Jan 2. “The social worker went to Bronson and Kenneth’s home and had no response to the knock at the door. So, she looked at other addresses to try and locate Bronson, and when she failed to do that, she spoke to her manager and she contacted police,” said Ms Sandy. The social worker went back on Jan 4, but again did not get a response. She returned on Jan 9. When no one answered the door, she alerted the landlady and gained entry to the property. Bronson’s mother, Ms Sarah Piesse, 43, told The Guardian she last saw her son before Christmas. She had been living apart from Mr Battersby and had got in a fight with him when she last saw him. Mr Battersby was believed to have died of a heart attack no earlier than Dec 29. He was unemployed and had a pre-existing heart condition that caused him to become severely jaundiced in the months leading up to his death. Ms Piesse told The Guardian that the post-mortem examination found that her son had died of dehydration and starvation. “Bronson starved to death because his dad died,” she said. “I couldn’t pick him up because his body was too fragile,” she said. “I could only touch him. He had been left there too long.” A neighbour, who claimed she knew the family, described Bronson as a “gorgeous, happy little boy”. The boy loved watching cartoons on the YouTube channel Cocomelon, nursery rhymes, and playing with his drum kit, she said. Ms Maria Clifton-Plaice, Mr Battersby’s landlady, told the BBC that finding the two bodies was one of the “worst (days) of my life”. She said she did not know Bronson well, but remarked: “I know he’d come and started staying with Kenny recently, and he was just probably the light of his dad’s eye. He was, I think, Kenny’s chance to be a good dad.” Boston and Skegness MP Matt Warman described what happened as a tragedy. “It does appear that social services made repeated contact. They tried to get hold (of), and the system did not seem to understand, the potential gravity of the situation. That’s what we’ve got to try and understand,” he said.

  6. The garage or workshop as we know it, is usually run by men. It's a different case if you pay a visit to the garage 'Caroline's Car'. Situated in Norwich, England, this is an all-women garage (probably the first in the world, too!) that is owned and run by women. It was established a decade ago and has now received hundreds of loyal female customers. Yet, what attracts me more is how this garage started in the first place. Well, after performing some research, I figured out that the owner, Caroline Lake, 42, used to work as an intern at a common garage. She worked at the garage for four sad years during which she didn't get paid. Can you imagine it, four straight years without being paid? That sucks! However, her hard work eventually paid off as she became the first British woman to receive a legitimate tester certificate from the U.K.'s Ministry of Transport. It was the increasing number of women who complained about their experiences at the garage she was working at that inspired Lake to start her own garage. According to her, most of the time, women were deceived by men who were supposedly more knowledgeable when it comes to cars. She said that it was common for women to be told that their cars needed huge fees in order to get it repaired. Heck, even worse, male mechanics at some automotive garage even tend to try and buy longer, yet unnecessary, time in repairing a woman's car just so that they can discuss about - not the car but the woman instead - sorry, my apology in advance if what I said may have offended you. While it's discouraging, it's the truth that Lake found out. With that being said, Lake was determined to start her own garage where women will no longer be deceived and that they can have real and convenient car service experiences. Thanks to her determination and guarantee that there'll be no female customers deceived, plenty of women in her area preferred to have their car serviced at Lake's. Quite amusingly, Lake's garage, Caroline's Car, has one typical characteristic. It is mandatory that every single employee wears a pink uniform. I'll tell you what, Lake has also recruited a male mechanic who is meant to help with heavy-duty tasks that women are unlikely to carry out themselves and this male mechanic has to wear a pink uniform too. Having seen quite a huge success with her garage, Caroline Lake is now considering the possibility of offering her business as a franchise. She claims to be interested in expanding her business, at least in her home country. In fact, she has even started offering special courses and opening mechanical test centres to attract more women into the odds and ends of the automotive world.
  7. Brawn and brains will finally meet at the Goodwood Festival of Speed when Peugeot reveals the production version of the RCZ R coupe. The event will be held in England from 11th to 14th July. The RCZ R is previewed by the RCZ R concept (above) which debuted at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. Powered by a 260bhp 1.6-litre THP engine, the RCZ R takes the honour of being the most powerful production model in the French brand's history. This puts the car among the most powerful production cars based on a power-per-litre basis, surpassing even the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. Despite of its raw power, the engine produces CO2 at a rate of 155g/km which is lower than a 1.6-litre Corolla Altis. The RCZ R will benefit from a sport-tuned suspension, lightweight alloy wheels and a Torsen limited-slip differential. Before we get to see the production version of the RCZ R, here's the concept version for your viewing pleasure.
  8. McLaren P1 The British automaker McLaren has already confirmed that it will soon start development for the successor to the P1 hypercar. However, don't get too excited now, as the company has also mentioned that we aren't likely to see what the successor looks like within the next decade (yes, that's ten years altogether). McLaren P1 The news came along with the news that McLaren's F1 staffs had started carrying out some necessary works in the UK-based automaker's joint effort with the Japanese automaker Honda, seemingly for the sake of the 2015 F1 racing season. It was Greg Levine, the Sales and Marketing Head at McLaren, who shared the news regarding the successor to the P1. McLaren MP4-12C "The only way a car like the P1 works is by being exclusive and having a short product cycle. After that, you have to step back from the market for a few years. These sort of launches can only happen every ten years or so," commented Levine. McLaren MP4-12C Until now, the automaker is about to produce its 375th P1 and - miraculously enough, I would say, considering the very high price tag of US$1.3 million (that is around S$1.6 million) - it has received customers for three quarters of the total units of the P1 to be produced. McLaren MP4-12C Spider Now, judging that Levine mentioned that it will take ten whole years for McLaren to introduce a new hypercar, I'm guessing some of you may be wondering if the company will have nothing to offer in the meantime. Well, in this regard, the British automaker is preparing an entry level model it's probably going to slot under the MP4-12C. The entry level model is dubbed the P13. Unfortunately, there has yet to be any image leaked on the styling cues of the model. Sources inside McLaren are also keeping their lips sealed tightly for the time being. However, it is known that the P13 will more likely lean on the styling cues of the P1 than those of the MP4-12C. According to sources at McLaren, the company's MP4-12C is 'too much about technology and less about beauty' and that the P13 isn't going to suffer from the same fate. Regarding the price of the P13, it seems wise to believe that it will range somewhere around US$200,000 (approximately S$251,000) or less. I think it's safe to assume that the price won't reach US$250,000 (approximately S$314,000), otherwise it may distract the sale of the MP4-12C.
  9. You know what they say, "Do whatever you want, just don't get caught!" Unfortunately (or thankfully, perhaps), these teenage car thieves in the United Kingdom don't seem quite knowledgeable about such a saying. Instead, these thieves just seemed so proud of their 'stealing' ability that they even shot pictures of themselves with the cars they had successfully stolen. What amazes me more is that they even posted the pictures on Facebook, a world renowned social media, and on their phones! This led the local police to catch them red-handed, or should I say, 'bread-handed' (you'll see why). It's a real 'shame' to the world of Grand Theft Auto. Speaking of Grand Theft Auto, it reminds me of the action adventure packed car theft game, the latest trailer of which will be shown on 30th April 2013. Alright, let's get back to topic. To be honest with you, these teenagers, aged from 18-23 years old, were quite an expert indeed. Comprising eight members, they managed to successfully steal nine high performance sports cars that were, and still are, very expensive. Porsches, Range Rovers, BMWs, and a Mercedes Coupe worth
  10. The economy in China is indeed growing well and this has determined the British automaker Rolls-Royce to open its largest showroom in the country. Rolls-Royce plans to build a showroom in the capital city of Shenyang and the facility will have two storeys, measuring 1,200 square metres in total. According to Henrik Wilhelmseyer, Rolls-Royce's regional director for China, the British automaker will work in collaboration with China's Shenyang Hong Lu Ming Zun in building its largest showroom in the world yet. What makes things even more interesting is that Rolls-Royce will make its China showroom special, because this year, the company is also celebrating the 10th anniversary of Rolls-Royce's rebirth. This was confirmed by Wilhelmseyer, mentioning that this was a very special year as it would mark 10 years of the brand's renaissance at its new home in Goodwood, England. If all goes well and the British automaker actually builds its largest showroom in China, don't be surprised to see even more people turn millionaires, if not billionaires, in the country.

  13. [extract] The Volkswagen Type 2 bus is one nostalgic vehicle. The sight of it evokes old memories of riding in one, from Singapore to Malacca, many years ago. It was a slow ride through the scenic Malaysian countryside (the north-south highway did not exist yet during that time). I recently found out that the Type 2 bus is still being manufactured new in Brazil and the Netherlands

  15. Argentina are playing England in the world cup, and Messi says to the team, "listen you all seem tired, why don't you have a night off, have a drink and I'll play by myself." So they agree and Messi goes to play England by himself. At half time the Argentinian team check the score and they see ARG 1-0 ENG (Messi 37th min). They're all impressed and get back to what they're doing. After the match finishes they check the score and see ARG 1-1 ENG (Lampard 85th min). They go to their dressing room and see Messi with his head in his hands. They tell him, "Come on, cheer up you got a draw all by yourself, that's great." Messi replies, "No you don't understand, I got sent off in the 60th minute."
  16. If you think the debacle last night and in general, the entire WC 2010 was bad. Here is a scarier thought: Who will be England's XI in 2014 IF they even qualify? I've been following the EPL since late 80s and I have never seen such a lack of young players coming through the ranks. Following the departure of Gerard, Lampard, Terry, J. Cole (not that they are that fantastic), who else comes to mind? Rooney will be 29 in 2014 so I guess he'll still be around. Other than that, you have to look at the wrong end of the EPL to find the next batch of English players. Or maybe the Championship. Try coming up with a team and you'll scare the shlt outta yourself.
