  1. Came across news that The Weather Channel debuted its new, mixed reality capabilities by showing what a tornado could do if it hit the studio. The demonstration has used mixed reality (MR), which is similar to augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) in that it creates virtual objects and then overlays them into the real world, but goes a step further and allows users to interact with them. Through MR the channel creates an incredibly realistic simulation of a tornado hitting the studio, with yellow ‘pop-ups’ appearing with facts and safety advice. For example, after a powerline crashes into the frame, Cantore tells viewers to stay at least 40 feet away from any live wires, saying that where he was standing would be too close to the pole if it was real. The ‘Tornado Hits The Weather Channel’ video ends with the anchor walking through the destruction after the studio is totally ripped apart. With sirens wailing, flickering video connection and sparks appearing to emerge from live wires, the entire experience - apart from Cantore himself - was meticulously created by the channel in partnership with The Future Group and powered by Frontier and Unreal Engine. The Weather Channel reckons the broadcast will “ignite a revolution of weather presentation” as part of a new era of real-time immersive storytelling. I personally find the safety advice extremely useful, as it give the viewer a clearer view of the potential hazards and associating risks in the real life situation, which shall have a more lasting effects in the viewers mind. Upon visiting this channel on youtube, found that they actually have several useful video, using similar VR technology, to remind drivers of the hazards of driving through different weather conditions. (and that is why this thread appears under the "General Car Discussion" section. And it is amazing that they actually started using VR technology some 3 years back... Can't wait for our MediaCorp to do the same for our otherwise boring news reporting and weather forecast. Imagine how it will look like to report ponding, hail storm, earthquake, etc. Our TP may also do the same to some of their educational video, to demonstrate, for example, the effect of road hogging and tailgating...
  2. So someone wrote into ST forum to say that "LED white lights make driving at night a hazard" https://str.sg/JBcA "As more vehicles and streetlights are installed with white LED bulbs, driving at night has become uncomfortable and hazardous. As a driver, I have often been momentarily blinded by the glare in my rear-view mirror from cars with such headlights. Alongside the road, the strong white glare from the streetlights becomes distracting for drivers as the brightness competes with the vehicle lights on the road. I noticed LED streetlights do not diffuse as well as the warmer, more orange streetlights of the past. Hence, there is high contrast between bright white spots and the dark background. In terms of area covered, the old lights seem to do a better job. I hope the Land Transport Authority will review the use of LED white lights on streetlights and regulate their use in vehicles." Do people generally feel that night driving is uncomfortable and hazardous with LEDs? Personally, I have no issues with LEDs in the rear view mirrors. Only time I get blinded is from the LED of the car in opposite direction, especially if I am going down-slope and the car with LED is going up-slope. As for LED streetlights, just brightens up the road, the orange lights are just too dim, really "pales in comparison". If LEDs are too bright, then why not install orange light for the F1 night race?
  3. How many of you uses scented candles or have colleagues using them in office? Or do you use them at home? Brands like Yankee Candle, Bath & BodyWorks 3 wick candles. Are scented candles a fire hazard since it's an open flame? Recently a colleague been using it. It's nice but want to know if it's allowed since management hasn't straight out said it's not allowed. How else to reduce chance of it catching a fire? Esp. those of you who own one at home. Safe? How else
  4. Currently opening of car door will trigger hazard light on, anyone know how to deactivate it or have to go audio shop to locate the wire tie to it?
  5. given the wet wet weather we have been having, i too have had a few close shaves but me wife and myself have been having this little argument...wonder if anyone here can shed some light on the matter are we suppose to switch on the hazard lights when driving in heavy rainfall? i personnaly think it is quite dangerous cos then no way to indicate drivers turning indication...(but then again maybe these drivers don't even use turn signals sigh... ) my wife says it is taught in driving schools? what is the reason for this then (if true)?
  6. The scene of an accident on Monday involving a tipper truck and a car at the junction of Tampines Street 45 and Tampines Avenue 9. The tipper truck involved in a recent accident at the Tampines junction where two young brothers died a year earlier came from the same construction site as the cement-mixer truck that killed the boys. With new projects lined up at the site near Tampines Street 45, residents fear this means more heavy vehicles plying the roads in the area and greater danger for children especially. "Having many heavy vehicles ferrying construction material in and out all day long right smack in a school zone is very dangerous," said housewife Christina Tan, 48, who lives on Tampines Street 45. "These heavy vehicles shouldn't be so near such a populated road where lots of people walk to and from school." Accidents involving heavy vehicles have come under the spotlight after Nigel Yap, 13, and his brother Donavan, seven, were fatally hit by a cement-mixer truck in January last year at the junction of Tampines Street 45 and Tampines Avenue 9. The driver responsible, Munir Mohd Naim, was jailed for two weeks on Monday for negligence. 7. Hi bros, Any one know what might be the problem when the hazard lights don't light up when I open the door of my 06 Altis? I still hear the sound but there is no light. When I lock my car, the hazard light also don't light up anymore. My mechanic said that it could be the remote control module but where can I get it fixed? Thanks! Alvin
  8. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/video/espnfc/...1310799?cc=4716 I think that boy is play acting more than in pain. Then again, Hazard was damn stupid to do something like that. Deserved the red card.
  9. Anyone have this problem before? Am having a Honda Civic 1.8A 2007 make. Strange thing is when I step the brake slightly, the knocking sound gone and come back again when brake is released. Able to replicate the problem most of the time. Just did servicing 3-4 weeks back at a workshop.
  10. It looks like General Motors is not the only car manufacturer that is affected by massive recall in the US recently. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that BMW is recalling some 2,642 units of the X5 and X6 SUVs fitted with diesel engines due to an engine bay fire risk. The affected vehicles are manufactured between 20 April 2012 and 29 May 2012. According to the official statement by BMW, due to a machining error of the steering gear surface, power steering fluid may leak. Leaking power steering fluid can spray onto hot exhaust parts, increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire. The issue was uncovered during testing at the BMW plant in Spartanburg and the luxury car maker is unaware of any incidents caused by the defect. The driver is still able to maintain steering control although the power steering assist is faulty. However, a higher degree of effort is required. A change in steering effort could increase the likelihood of an accident under certain emergency conditions. The recall is expected to begin in July, and BMW dealers will inspect and replace the steering gear on affected vehicles as necessary. The recall by GM (on the Cruze model) and BMW reminds me of a conversation that I had with a local Hyundai salesman recently. He mentioned that if a model is sold in the US, one can be assured that it is quite safe as the US government is very serious about vehicular safety. I think there is some truth in it.
  11. Imagine you are the motorist in front of this trailer at this moment and you hear the sharp screeching sound of it jamming break behind you... From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...d_to_other.html Lorry speeding on right lane of BKE is a hazard to other road users STOMPer Serene thinks the driver of this lorry, who was speeding on the right lane of BKE during peak hour, is a hazard to other road users. She says: "This was taken just after the Dairy Farm exit on BKE last Thursday (Jan 12) at around 7am. "The driver of the trailer was also speeding during peak hour and I wonder where our traffic police were when this happened. "A hazard to other road users and very inconsiderate."
  12. Road Hazard - Honda Civic SFR6558C This afternoon, you nearly bang into me. Your turning is like primary school kid. While turning, you cut into my lane abruptly, nearly ruining my saturday. Without a word of apology, you drove off like a girl. Seriously i dunno what the FCUK you were doing. I didnt see any remorse from you. Luckily i had self-pick up defensive driving skills throughout all these years no thanks to people like you driving without any brains.
  13. Everytime i drive, i look out for them.. and sometimes when reaching a junction with a red light camera, some cars jam brake on amber for fear of getting snapped, making me also jam brake. I know they are there to catch errant motorists la. But, is there a grace period or something? I know if u travel at speed limit and if u are too close, still can clear the junction or if just nice can stop in time etc.

Yesterday afternoon had lunch - Nasi Bryani at Houngang 24hour AJ Restaurant The waiter had the mutton bryani on a green plastic plate and a laminated brown paper/plastic then they reheat it together in a Microwave oven THIS IS DANGEROUS because the green plastic plate and a laminated brown paper/plastic are not meant for microwave cooking (reheating) and may release dangerous chemicals as a result I took the drink and left the food, obviously I paid up before I left Although some of us have our IP in other countries, that does not mean we are not in Sillypore.
  17. Hi guys, 1. With reference to this thread at http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/Stupid_Civ...053609/#2053609. 2. It is not an offence to use hazard light during adverse weather condition. So just vote YES or NO on whether you think it should be use or not. Thank you. Regards,
  18. Hi, Realise there are taxis on the road nowadays that seem to activate the hazard lights whenever they have to brake suddenly. Do you all share the same observation?
  19. Thinking of doing sound proofing to my car.. but I'm afraid that it masks out so much of the surrounding noise that you can't hear horns coming your way. What do u folks think?
  20. I have noticed that some taxis have the hazard lights auto come on when they brake, sometimes, at the junction, i dunno if he is going to go straight, stop, turn left or right....... very dangerous!! i think they rig the lights so that when they see a passenger and press their brake, the hazard lights come on also, but now, it comes on everytime they brake illegal?
  21. Dear All Would like to know if any place just sell the lamp cover as my hazard light is still working fine. The cover is a rectangular one, and my car is a 1986 daihatsu charade. Many thanks.
  22. Does anyone know whether SA can fix up my hazard lights so that when reverse gear is engaged or doors are opened, it will come on? How much will it be? Is it difficult to do? If SA can't do it, which workshop can do it and for how much? Will it also void my warranty? Thanks

  24. wah... today very suai.... our last and final 'original' power window failed and dropped down when we were abt to go home after work! coz already 6pm, so no choice, drove to servotronics to try our luck, almost all the workers left already, but philip was still around, so he manage to jam it back up for us first.... says will call us when the part arrives... 1st power window failed = right passenger side (JTA no stock, so jam up for us) 2nd power window failed = left passendger side (JTA no longer around, went to CA get both replaced...) 3rd power window failed = driver side (replaced at CA) 4th power window failed = front passenger side (waiting for replacement at servo) .... anyway, this not the purpose of my post... as i was at servo, i asked philip if the hazard light switch stock has arrived and got him to replace it for me. cost of replacement = $69, no labour saw him do it, quite simple. 1. use flat tip screw drive to slowly and gently ply the 4 sides of black frame surrounding the hazard light switch. 2. take it out first (just like one flat piece of rectangular plastic with a triangle cut out in the middle. 3. plug out the whole component (refer to diagram). remove the triangular hazard light plastic 4. fix the triangular harzard light plastic on the new switch. 5. plug whole thing back in. 6. cover back with the black frame. everything took abt 1 minute beano and skodaman, if u want, i think can go servo to change lor. philip was about to throw the faulty part away, but i took it back to scan... hahaha the text on the part already very blurred out, some letters missing, think due to time... i try to type what i can see out, hopefully, u can get xin chong to indent it for u. black text above white sticker: "SAE OC 89 PNT 60. DOT" text on white sticker: (skoda logo) PNT Germany ??? 953 235 B WBS + DI FA6 6 GF30? i might be wrong in guessing the actual text.... hehehe
