  1. I wish to find out if the Hyundai Accent 1.4 has any aftermarket exhaust system legally available in Singapore ? I remember Remus use to be designing exhaust systems for the older generation Hyundai models. Any info ?

Zenvo TSR-S arrives with 1177bhp flat-plane crank V8https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motor-shows-geneva-motor-show/zenvo-tsr-s-arrives-1177bhp-flat-plane-crank-v8 Zenvo has unveiled a new track-focused, road-legal hypercar called the TSR-S that uses a ramped up version of its flat-plane crank V8 putting out 1177bhp. On show at the Geneva motor show, the mid-engined two-door has 14bhp more than the TS1 GT it is based on, with an all-carbonfibre body built over a steel and aluminium monocoque. Zenvo's 5.8-litre engine uses a trio of superchargers to offer muscular performance, enabling a 0-62mph time of 2.8sec and 0-124mph time of 6.8sec - identical to the McLaren Senna - in the TSR-S. Top speed is limited to 202mph. The car features a new exterior design with race-inspired aerodynamics, with the key component for downforce an active rear wing. To keep weight down, the cabin features only the bare essentials, so there's no airconditioning, radio or airbags. Instead, there are carbon seats and six-point harnesses. Pricing is unconfirmed but likely to be in excess of the £1.2 million Zenvo charges for the TS1 GT. Small production numbers will go some way to justify that - Zenvo produces just five cars per year from its facility in Præstø, Denmark. The car's powertrain can be set through three modes that adjust power from 700bhp to its peak output. Drive for the 1495kg TSR-S is sent through a seven-speed paddle-shift gearbox with straight-cut gears.

  4. some quick question there are 3 models in my mind - C4 Grand Picasso , Peugeot 5008 & VW Touran ..... i'm comparing them with my tucson in terms of carrying say 4 adults and 2 children , my ride seems to struggle with the weight although its an new improved 2 litre engine what about those that are 1.6 & 1.4 turbo charged ? can they easily handle it effortlessly even with a lower capacity engine ? ? please comment ..thanks

  7. Effective May 2010! Always thought esso has the best value in terms of discounts and especially their points compared to shell and caltex. Not anymore! This has been one of my main reasons for pumping Esso. Time to change brand? EDIT: Previously was 1 smile points for every $1.25 spent.

Volvo launches an energy-efficient 2-litre GTDi engine with unique turbo system Volvo Car Corporation is introducing an all-new four-cylinder 2-litre GTDi (Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection) engine in the Volvo S80, V70 and XC60, offering great performance and efficiency all in one. New Volvo-developed turbocharging technology, direct injection and twin variable camshafts give a unique combination of low fuel consumption, low emissions and high performance across a wide rev range - all in a particularly compact format. The new petrol engine, the 2.0 GTDi, produces no less than 203 hp despite its compact size and cylinder capacity. It pumps out 300 Nm of torque already from 1750 rpm thus securing a refined driving experience. "We've succeeded in making a four-cylinder engine that is as powerful as a 2.5-litre five-cylinder unit, and it's also much more energy-efficient. This is a very welcome both for those customers who want high performance as well as supreme driveability and for the environment that benefits from the improved fuel efficiency. One of the most important reasons behind the results is our new, patented turbo system that has been tailor-made for smaller energy-efficient engines," says Magnus Jonsson, head of Product Development at Volvo Cars. Less is more - Meet the next generation turbo technology The turbocharger system has been developed in cooperation between Volvo Cars, Borg-Warner Turbo System and steel component manufacturer Benteler Automotive. The turbocharger (K03) is the market's smallest in relation to the engine's maximum output. The turbo not only gives excellent performance properties, it also improves exhaust aftertreatment by enabling quick heating of the catalyst. The turbine housing is integrated into the manifold, an efficient solution with which Volvo already had previous good experience. The difference is that the new manifold and turbine housing are made of sheet steel instead of a casting. The sheet is lighter and more compact and, above all, this system generates less heat owing to its extra insulating layer. This allows high gas flow temperature and thus more efficient combustion. A manifold made of sheet steel is admittedly nothing new but so far it has only been used in combination with cast turbine housing. The new, fully integrated turbo package made entirely of sheet steel is a world innovation and has been patented by Volvo. This innovative technology has made it possible to shape the exhaust ducts optimally to allow an optimal gas flow and generate the maximum pulse effect for the highest possible turbine efficiency. The pulse dynamics can thus be utilised to the limits in order to generate a high power output level across a wider range of engine revs. This translates into close to immediate response and good acceleration at both low and high speeds. "High performance is important to many customers. However, being an innovative and highly efficient powertrain, there is also a significant gain in both fuel consumption and emissions with this technology" says Magnus Jonsson. "A Volvo S80 with this engine and automatic transmission consumes just 8.3 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres." Efficient direct injection starts the turbo quickly The new engine features direct injection. The injectors have seven holes for precisely controlled injection into each cylinder. The injectors are side-mounted. Direct injection gives a high fill rate in the combustion chamber, efficient combustion and low emissions. Thanks to this high fill rate, the turbo also starts spinning earlier, delivering alert response from low revs. This in turn results in swift acceleration and good driveability even from low speeds. Direct injection also contributes to quick and stable combustion at high loads, and thus smooth engine operation even when the accelerator is floored. The injection system is supplied by Bosch. Twin VVT (Variable Valve Timing) Volvo's new GTDi engine utilises variable timing for both camshafts. Both the inlet and the exhaust valves' opening times can be varied to optimise the overlap and ensure the correct fill rate in the combustion chamber irrespective of engine revs. This gives the combustion process maximum efficiency throughout the rev range and helps generate rapid acceleration at all speeds. Both VVTs are of the conventional vane-type. The rotation of the inner and outer rotor is regulated by hydraulic pressure from the engine oil. By opening and closing the oil control valves, the oil pressure and flow through the VVTs are changed until the desired angular deviation between the inner and outer rotor is achieved. The oil control valves are controlled by software in the Engine Management System using feedback from the cam position sensors. "By combining direct injection and VVT with our new patented turbo system, we can offer an engine with low fuel consumption and low emissions, without having to compromise on performance or driving properties," says Magnus Jonsson. "We have created an engine that is as efficient in the city as it is on the highway. And since the design is based on an already-existing engine concept, we can offer more car buyers a highly fuel-efficient alternative at a reasonable price." In combination with Powershift or manual gearbox The engine will be offered in combination with Volvo's automatic six-speed Powershift transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox. This new six-speed double-clutch automatic transmission combines the efficiency and driving dynamics of a manual transmission with the ease of a quality automatic transmission. The clutch activations are co-ordinated so that no torque interruption occurs during gear changing. This provides both the ease and permanent motion of a conventional automatic transmission and the performance of a manual transmission. A key global powertrain for Volvo Volvo's new 2.0 GTDi engine is being initially launched on markets that offer tax incentives for engines below two litres in displacement: South-East Asia, the Netherlands, China and Japan.
  9. KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign-registered vehicles will only be allowed to pump maximum 20 litres of fuel when travelling within 50km radius from the border, said Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. Enforcement authorities at the checkpoints were also directed to ensure such vehicles leave the country with no more than 20 litres of fuel in each tank, said the Domestic, Trade, Co-operative and Consumerism Minister. Ministry officers were in the midst of issuing a circular on the matter to petrol stations in affected areas. "This measure is to curb increasing cases of fuel smuggling, as the prices for fuel are subsidised and cheaper compared to prices set by neighbouring countries such as in Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia," he said. THAT means if u go in with 3/4 tank of petrol ( about 30 litre ) under Singapore ruling, you have to throw your petrol somewhere or burn it before you can leave Malaysia and return to Singapore under Malaysia ruling. Very stressed lifestyle.. Here government make us go over with 3/4 tank and there the government make us return with 20 litre maximum ( 1/3 tank ) . Indeed, Singaporeans are suckers being pushed around everywhere in our own countries and other countries. The Singapore government must be smiling and preparing for another major "upsize" of salaries since billions of petrol dollars will flow from Malaysia into Singapore coffers even when the Sg government did absolutely nothing. No wonder they are the best paid in the world.

  11. Just come to realized that Caltex now giving 1 point per litre of petrol pumped. No wonder I am getting a lot less points now than before. I've been on Caltex for years but now I am going to switch. For comparison sake; Caltex 1 pt per litre 1200 pts for $40 petrol voucher Esso 1 pt per $1.25 spent 750 pts for $30 instant petrol redemption Quite obvious which one better value.

  13. I will start first....If petrol hits $4/l in the near future (that will mean paying about $800 monthly), I will carry on driving as I need my MPV to ferry 3 kids, parents and maid. I will probably be more selective where I travel and avoid driving unnecessary like to 7-11 which is wihtin walking distance . Maybe will consider conversion to CNG or changing to smaller cc MPV. Your say....

  15. Just a friendly discussion seeing how petrol prices keep increasing and no substantial revision even when there's a drop in crude oil price. What would you do if petrol hits S$3 per litre bearing in mind that we don't hv a wider varieties like bio-diesel, petrol/alcohol etc in Spore. Is bio-diesel introduced in Spore?? Would you sell your vehicle, rely on public transport? Or would you go further, like sell your vehicle, rely on public transport and move to central Spore? With more and more ERP sprouting faster than ever plus ever increasing price in petrol, might we see an increase in property activities??

Mavis Toh Sun, Nov 18, 2007 The Straits Times PROJECT manager Tresno Santoso, 28, hardly shows up at his office these days. Instead, he works from home at least four times a week. He has cut down on driving to save on petrol, which soared past $2 per litre last week. A full tank for his 1.6L Honda Civic used to cost him $65 but now, Mr Santoso has to fork out $15 more for the same amount of petrol. By cutting down on trips between his Punggol home and his Kent Ridge office, Mr Santoso refills his tank once every 10 days instead of once a week, which saves him about $80 monthly. 'Unless it's absolutely necessary, I won't go to the office,' he said. 'The high petrol price is hurting my bank account.' Driving instructor Peck Chin Huat, 54, has also changed his driving habits since petrol prices started climbing in April. He no longer picks his students up from their homes. Instead, he meets them near a driving school in Ubi. 'I can't afford to waste petrol by picking them up,' said Mr Peck. 'My income has dropped 20 per cent from last year because of the high petrol price.' Soaring petrol prices have hit motorists hard. In the past 11 months, the price of petrol has shot up eight times. The price for 98-octane petrol was relatively stable from January to March, at $1.637 per litre. But from April, it jumped thrice to reach $1.840 in July. It climbed to $2.030 last week. (This is about 24% increase) This surge in petrol prices brought on by rising crude oil prices - which reached a record of US$98.62 (S$143.11) per barrel last week - has forced some motorists to re-think the way they use their cars. Of the 30 motorists with whom The Sunday Times spoke, more than half said they avoid making unnecessary car trips. Ms Huang Li Min, 29, a tutor, said that, instead of driving, she now takes a 10-minute walk to the provision shop near her Ang Mo Kio flat. Sales executive Alan Ang spends 10 minutes every morning planning his route before leaving his house in Toa Payoh. He makes at least four trips a day to see his clients. The 31-year-old, who reckons he saves $20 monthly by planning his journeys, said: 'I'll try and schedule all the meetings in one area around the same time. Previously, I can be in the north at 10am, then in the west at 11am.' Sales and marketing executive H.S. Xie, 55, said his $400 transport allowance is hardly enough these days. He meets up to eight clients a day and now spends about $600 on petrol a month, up by $200. 'I need to top up every three days and each tank is about $65 now, $10 more!' he said. 'So now, I spend less on 4-D to pay for petrol.' Determined not to fork out more petrol money, civil servant Titus Kwok, 29, downgraded his petrol instead. He uses 95-octane petrol, at $1.956 per litre, instead of 98-octane, at $2.030 per litre. A spokesman for the Singapore Petroleum Company said the company has seen a slight shift towards lower-grade petrol. Pump assistant J.M. Yu said she gets a earful when motorists drive up to her station in Braddell. 'They always complain, 'So expensive!'' She said that one in about every 10 customers will opt for lower-grade petrol, compared to about one in 15 in the past. Sales executive Eric Yip, 31, goes the extra mile to save on petrol. He drives his Nissan Latio to Johor Baru every fortnight, catches a movie, does some shopping and tops up his tank. 'The petrol is like half the price here since it's the same price, but in ringgit,' he said. 'I can save about $30 by filling my quarter tank there.' Some motorists have even switched to public transport. Project manager Tan Chong Hong, 32, 'parks and rides'' whenever he has to run errands in town. He leaves his car in a designated carpark, pays a flat fee of $3 and hops on a train. 'If I drive and park in town, it may cost more than $20 a day,' said Mr Tan. The rise in petrol pump prices has also led to car buyers re-doing their sums. Accountant Brenda Chan, 27, said she is buying a 1.6 litre car instead of a 2 litre car. 'If not, the petrol alone will cost me a bomb.'

  18. Reported on the Chinese evening papers tonight. One uncle drove his Toyota Estima to a petrol station in Yishun. The receipt showed that 75 litres of petrol was pumped into the 65-litre capacity fuel tank. How could that have happen? Sometimes, it's good to check your receipt.

  21. I saw this at the motorshow and it looks pretty damn good with the full bodykit and 17 inchers... but the drawback ----> long rubbery gear shift (yup its manual) and FF (yes I'm a sucker for RWD or AWD) The sales consultant (a lady) is very pretty though. Maybe should ask her out for a date
