  1. SingPost Launches Longest Stamp In S’pore, It’s 16.3cm & Features The Entire CBD Skyline Source: https://mustsharenews.com/singpost-longest-stamp/ SingPost Issues Longest Stamp In Singapore & It’s Longer Than A Typical Ruler Stamps come in all shapes and sizes, often depicting national treasures or landmarks of a country. SingPost took this to a whole new level and introduced the longest stamp in Singapore’s philatelic history. The stamp measures 16.3cm long and features the Singapore Central Business District’s (CBD) skyline. The stamp’s denomination is $2 and collectors may be interested to know that it comes in a 2-stamp set. The other stamp – which costs $1.40 – showcases one of Singapore’s longest HDB flats, truly fitting. SingPost’s longest stamp measures 16.3cm SingPost said in a press release that the stamps will go on sale on Thursday (15 Oct). The stamp’s length is more than many school rulers, which are usually 15cm, coming in at 16.3 cm. The stamp features a beautiful panoramic image of the CBD’s skyline, capturing Marina Bay Sands and the Esplanade, which lies across the bay. Though it’s something to behold, we wonder how an envelope would look like with the stamp spreading out beyond the top right corner. Other stamp features an iconic HDB flat If one doesn’t find a need for such a long stamp, the set also has a $1.40 stamp which features Block 34 in Whampoa West. The HDB flat was built in 1971 and is known for its 320-metre corridor, with each level having 46 units. Something noteworthy is that the stamps feature different landmarks from 2 distinct eras of Singapore’s history, showing us that collecting stamps are a way to remember how far we have come as a nation. Those interested in collected the stamps instead of posting them can order First Day Covers ($4.90) or Presentation Packs ($5.95) via SingPost’s website. You can also get them at all post offices and philatelic stores from 15 Oct onwards. Long stamp for your Longchamp As the $2 stamp is rather long, one may prefer to keep it as a collectible. After all its image of our CBD is a looker. Or if you’d like, you could pair it with a… Longchamp? But seriously, don’t do that.
  2. The Escape Theme Park in Penang is going to have the world’s longest water slide. Measuring 1,140m long, the waterslide is already 80 per cent complete, and is expected to be ready by next month. The theme park’s chief executive officer Sim Choo Kheng, said: “It is expected to be the longest in the world, longer than the water slide in New Jersey, USA, which is 602m long. “It can go into the Guinness Book of Records. “It is a challenge to build due to topographical factors and lack of machinery. “It is expected to open to the public in early August after a security check is carried out,” he said, after a site visit with chairman of Penang Development, Heritage, Culture and Arts Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin on Sunday (June 23). Visitors will slide down from the hilltop and cross Jalan Teluk Bahang to the suspension bridge and end up at the water theme park. The hilltop is also the start of other rides such as luge (sleds down the hill), zip coasters and sliding tubes. The theme park already has a 300m long water slide that was launched last year. Mr Sim said a 400m long cable car ride with 30 seats would also be completed at the same time as the water slide. “The cable car connects between the foothills and the water slide. “It is unique as it goes through the jungle,” he added. The theme park is listed in the international holiday assessor site, TripAdvisor.

  4. Some of us probably know we strive really hard and for long hours but to know that we beat Japan in this aspect and even earned the world's longest hours worked title is rather mind-boggling... From asiaone: S'poreans work the longest hours in the world The Star/Asia News Network Saturday, Oct 19, 2013 Singaporeans work the longest hours in the world, reported Nanyang Siang Pau on a study by Taiwan's China Times newspaper. They worked an average of 2,402.4 hours a year, higher than Taiwan's 2,140.8 hours. Workers in East Asian countries seemed to work longer hours than their Western counterparts, from between 2,090 and 2,402 hours in Taiwan, South Korea and Hong Kong. Those in Japan worked 1,745.2 hours, while those in the United States, Canada and Britain worked between 1,654 and 1,790 hours. 5. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-04-18/w...re-remodel.html Singaporean men live an average 20.8 years after retirement while their female counterparts have 25.6 years, according to the Bloomberg Sunset Index. The measure, which places Singapore ahead of France and South Korea, estimates the age at which residents leave the workforce and subtracts this from their life expectancy. A 2012 Bloomberg study on the healthiest nations awarded the highest grade to Singapore out of 145 countries. Average of 20 years for men is very long time to live without working, and for women it's longer! Require lots and lots of cash to meet an appropriate standard of living.

  9. Now car prices and COE are so expensive, some ppl say we should hang on to our car as long as possible.... So far, have you owned a car more than 4 years?.... or what is the longest you have hung on to a car? is it worth doing it? will you do the same again? the longest I have hunged on to my car is about 6 years which i bought second hand.... quite happy with it as the total depreciation was spread over many years. 10. Hi all, Berncsp76 mentioned about KL Pasar Malam, known as Taman Connaught, Cheras. It operates on every Wednesday. To find out more, go to this URL. Click the Links to explore: http://food.malaysiamostwanted.com/venues/...ght-pasar-malam Usually 1st timer can go for China Burger: click here to play the video: http://www.foodpoi.com/2009/03/china-burger/ The smelly Tou Fu also sedap. So many things to try and cheap some more. Usually, I will put up at Mid-valley and drive there, about 12Km away, roughly about 20mins if traffic is smooth and if you know the way. For parking, usually jam packed, suggest go there earlier. Can consider parking near Macdonald or Giant. Of course, if lazy to drive can always take a cab. Going there is easy but coming back to KL city means you have to "compete" for Taxi along the roadside . Have fun. Regards,

  12. Taken from http://sg.news.yahoo.com/afp/20090619/tts-...ht-7d7070a.html AFP - Saturday, June 20 TOKYO (AFP) - - Health experts have long warned of the risk of obesity, but a new Japanese study warns that being very skinny is even more dangerous, and that slightly chubby people live longer.ADVERTISEMENT People who are a little overweight at age 40 live six to seven years longer than very thin people, whose average life expectancy was shorter by some five years than that of obese people, the study found. "We found skinny people run the highest risk," said Shinichi Kuriyama, an associate professor at Tohoku University's Graduate School of Medicine who worked on the long-term study of middle-aged and elderly people. "We had expected thin people would show the shortest life expectancy but didn't expect the difference to be this large," he told AFP by telephone. The study was conducted by a health ministry team led by Tohoku University professor Ichiro Tsuji and covered 50,000 people between the ages of 40 and 79 over 12 years in the northern Japanese prefecture of Miyagi. "There had been an argument that thin people's lives are short because many of them are sick or smoke. But the difference was almost unchanged even when we eliminated these factors," Kuriyama said. Main reasons for the shorter lifespans of skinny people were believed to include their heightened vulnerability to diseases such as pneumonia and the fragility of their blood vessels, he said. But Kuriyama warned he was not recommending people eat as much as they want. "It's better that thin people try to gain normal weight, but we doubt it's good for people of normal physique to put on more fat," he said. The study divided people into four weight classes at age 40 according to their body mass index, or BMI, calculated by dividing a person's weight in kilograms by their squared height in metres. The normal range is 18.5 to 25, with thinness defined as under 18.5. A BMI of 25 to 30 was classed as slightly overweight and an index above 30 as obese.

  17. What is the longest distance your car have travelled on free gear, if you ever do that? The longest that I have let my car rolled on free gear, without touching the accelerator, was between 8 and 10 km on the karak hwy from genting direction on many ocassions. In Sg at most I could get was no more than 2 km down BS bridge to fort road. Have done that on my manual as well as my auto cars. Dont worry about all that talk of spoiling the gear transmission if you are not using your car till scraped. My last 2 cars was 135,000 km and 129,000 km when I changed them near the 5th year with no problems.
