MCFers who are staying in old high-rise apartment do take serious note that some of the railing gaps may be wide enough for toddlers to squeeze through. In addition there might be stupid railing or parapet designs with horizontal bars/gaps which allows toddlers or children to climb over. Eric Wong Yu Hao, a year and nine months old, fell to his death after squeezing through the bars of the balcony at a Hillview Green condominium in Upper Bukit Timah. State Coroner Imran Abdul Hamid, while saying he found that the death was accidental yesterday, urged those who look after young children to check possible dangers in their homes and put in safety measures. He pointed out that there are online groups offering solutions to make homes safe. "While I don't think anyone can guarantee that the suggested solutions will be 100 per cent effective, at the very least caregivers can have the peace of mind that what could possibly be done to make the home safe for young children, has been done," he said.

Published on Mar 26, 2012 Ministers and other political appointment holders will be paid a National Bonus this month equivalent to 1.6 months of their pay. The National Bonus is a new bonus that provides a direct link between the salaries of political appointment holders and the socio-economic progress of average and lower-income Singapore citizens and the growth of Singapore. It came about after Parliament endorsed the White Paper on 'Salaries for a Capable and Committed Government' in January this year. Based on the approved formula, the 2011 National Bonus is 2.625 months but since the new salaries took effect on May 21 last year, the pro-rated amount will be 1.618 months, to be paid in March 2012, the Public Service Division (PSD) said in a statement on Monday. -

Hi all..received 2 summons stating i park illegally dated late June n early July 2010. Place of offence is China street, i was there watching world cup then. No notice on winscreen and quite shocked to received summons this late. So its 120x2 n 3x2 demerits points. Is this common, i mean nearly 6 mths later then issue summons? U imagine if i go n watch world cup 5 days in a row..hahaha

Hope to get some advice from the bros and sistas, I'm posting overseas for about 6 mths from Oct 09 till April 10 for work. There's no one else in the family that can drive. Thinking of selling the car to save on the parking, road tax, insurance and DEPRECIATION. But the car is only about 2.5 years old!! Only the bright side, I'll breakeven comfortably (because I put quite a big downpayment then...). If I sell, i'll have to buy another car when I get back... What do you advise?? Sell/keep? I thought of renting out...but heard too much horror stories liao leh..... Its a 2007 Mazda3...if that matters :) THANKS!!

This is a true story. There was this cat residing at my parent's block void deck which me and my sisters adore. He was juz a stray but his fondness of ppl juz grew into us. We call it Socks coz of his white paws and rest of the body is mainly black. Socks was responsive to anyone and would brush against our legs upon meeting us. Last July, Socks suddenly disappeared. And so we tot his time was up. We said our prayers silently and would always miss the fella ard. I got married the folowing mth and moved out of my parents' place. Yesterday nite, he came back albeit a much thinner Socks. But it is still him. He dove to our feet along with meows of happiness the same way he usually did last time. My emotions were filled to the brim and i found a video that could describe my true emotions for Socks... Touching Video

SINGAPORE : Next month, the Government will pay civil servants a year-end Annual Variable Component (AVC) of one month on top of the 13th month bonus. In addition, eligible civil servants will be paid a new performance-based Growth Bonus next March. Payable in times of exceptional economic performance, this bonus varies in amount depending on individual performance and aims to strengthen the link between performance and pay. Good performers will receive 0.5 month of Growth Bonus, and better performers will receive more - up to 0.8 month. In a statement, the Public Service Division said the economy has performed better than anticipated this year. The Trade and Industry Ministry has forecast that the Singapore economy is expected to grow by 7.5 to 8 percent this year. The unemployment rate has fallen from 2.7 percent last year to 1.7 percent, with a record high of 171,500 jobs created in the first 9 months of 2007. In July this year, the government paid civil servants a mid-year AVC of 0.5 month and a one-off payment of S$220, in line with the call by the National Wages Council for employers to help low wage workers. The total variable payment for 2007 is 2.5 months + S$220, not including the Growth Bonus. With the Growth Bonus, the total payments for a good performer will be 3 months + S$220 for 2007, compared to 2.7 months + S$220 in 2006. - CNA/ch

Comments? I have been using Fusso since day one without any wax. Thinking of using Klasse AIO combined with Fusso. Where got sell besides KlasseSG? 1L one...$$$? Other auto makers didn't signal they would follow such an aggressive strategy, which could boost sales but ultimately end up eating more into the bottom line. if only this applies in Singapore, is will be a good time to buy GM brands of cars....

Hi this is a field report for those that are running Amsoil in my car. I changed mine during my 5K servicing around end Nov. Its nearly 10K now, engine still runs smooth. I inspected my oil recently and noticed that it is now greyish yellow with some impurities. I took a sniff and I could detect a strong smell of gasoline in it. I pumped V-power about 3 times during this 3 mths, I read sometime ago that a minute qty will leak into the oil sump and mix with the oil, increasing its detergency. I wonder how true is this in my case. I drive a 2002 Lancer GDI.
