  1. Starting a thread to consolidate the sharing of SIM-only plan experiences and lobangs. Still 1 month+ left on my current M1 SIM-only contract and looking at what other players (telco and MVNO) are offering. Came across Zero1's 6u plan which seems pretty competitive, so putting this plan on my radar screen.

    Fibre broadband

    just rcvd a letter from opennet saying that my unit can subscribe to fibre broadband services already. so anyone already using fibre ? how is the speed compared to the present cable or ADSL ? i am considering M1's 25mbps pack at $39 since its the cheapest of the lot and also since all 3 ISP lists their international speed at 15mbps only.

StarHub customers affected by home broadband disruption can register for one-time 20% rebate on monthly fee source: https://mothership.sg/2020/04/starhub-broadband-disruption-rebate/ StarHub's internet service was disrupted in many areas of Singapore on Apr. 15. Users faced intermittent access for at least seven hours from around 11am till just after 8pm. StarHub's apology StarHub has apologised for the service disruption, saying that it "apologises unreservedly for the inconvenience caused" in a statement issued on Apr. 16. StarHub acknowledged that more people were staying home to work and study because of the nationwide circuit breaker measures currently in place, and said that in this time, it would take network resilience and quality especially seriously. It also said that StarHub’s top priority during the disruption was to restore services swiftly for affected customers. One-time 20 per cent rebate StarHub is offering affected customers a one-time 20 per cent rebate on their Home Broadband monthly fee. Affected customers will need to register for this rebate on a dedicated website, and StarHub said that it would announce the details to customers "soon". What caused the disruption? StarHub said that a cyber attack was ruled out as a possible cause of the disruptions. Instead, the service disruptions were cause by two separate, unrelated incidents. Faulty equipment issue StarHub said that at around 11am, some customers in the North and North-East regions faced a 20-minute disruption to their fibre services. This was due to "an isolated fault in a piece of network equipment." According to StarHub, back-up equipment took over immediately, and affected services resumed progressively for customers. The faulty equipment was then replaced with a new unit, and services were closely monitored for stability. Network issue The second incident happened at about 3:50pm, StarHub said. StarHub discovered a network issue with its Domain Name Servers(DNS) that serve home broadband customers, and there was an intermittent issue in performing queries to the DNS. This resulted in some customers experiencing slow, or no internet access. StarHub said that the issue was rectified, and that affected services were fully restored at 8:20pm on Apr. 15. Peter Kaliaropoulos, Chief Executive, StarHub, said: Action taken by StarHub Kaliaropoulos said that StarHub has taken immediate steps to prevent a recurrence. StarHub said that it is "cooperating fully" with the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) in investigations, and welcome any necessary infrastructure audit by IMDA. “We assure our customers that our network traffic is well below available capacity and ample redundancy has been built into our network to cater for high service levels to be delivered consistently", Kaliaropoulos added.

  5. Anyone on Starhub sim. Got this problem whereby 4G data will suddenly stop working. Then after awhile. It works again. But during down time.. whatsapp msg cannot come in

  7. Hi everyone, My house Mio Bundle is up for recontract. Have been using Mio bundle since Mio first started 4 or 6 years ago. Whole family are long time customers of Singtel. Current Mio Bundle is $100+ per month with 4 phone 30% discount. all 4 phone havent recontract since contract was up 1 or 2 years ago because of the 12 Gb data plan. My Mio TV is permanently offed as we dun watch TV. Looking at what Singtel is offering now, if i recontract any of the phone, they will be offering me 25% discount only and all the phone plan contracts are more expensive. I am looking at the Singtel S$79 300mb Mio Bundle Plan. I was thinking of changing my whole family's phone to M1 since my father have this 300MB M1 fiber plan for his hse. And M1 is offering 30% discount for all moblie plan under this fiber. As for my house internet, I am thinking of either getting M1 fiber or My republic fibre. However, I was told that a survey done by IDA revealed that for 100Mb, Singtel offer real 95Mb but M1 only 70Mb. Can anyone advice me on service( i.e coverage and speed) of the fibre plans and mobile of each company? Thank you!
  8. Need to seek fellow MCFers view on this. I read that Starhub will be terminating the cable TV and migrate to fibre TV in a few years time and in order for fibreTV to work, the TV set and supporting hardwares had to be connected to the termination point (OpenNet) via cables. If my termination point is located at the main door area, does it mean I have to engage technician to relocate the termination point to my living room with drilling thru walls and ugly trunking ? Is it possible for FibreTV to work via WIFI ?

  11. Currently i am paying $48 for 26GB of data, 100 mins talk time at Circles Life. This new mid tier plan by Starhub not bad. Talk time 300 mins. And also no contract. Think shortly Singtel and M1 will announce similar plans. SINGAPORE: Local telco StarHub on Wednesday (Dec 5) announced three new SIM-only mobile plans which it said come with “extra large data bundles”. The mid-tier S$50 SIM-only plan, for instance, offers customers 30GB of data a month, with free incoming calls and 300 minutes of local talktime. Caller number display and international roaming – previously chargeable as add-on services - are included free of charge. The first 10,000 customers to sign up will get an additional 10GB of data every month for a year as a “launch bonus”, said StarHub.   12. Singapore to start 5G roll-out by 2020: Iswaran SINGAPORE plans to start rolling out fifth-generation mobile network technology, or 5G, by 2020. Minister for Communications and Information S Iswaran confirmed the market's timeframe expectations on Monday, in a move that he said was "to maintain Singapore's competitive edge in connectivity". The Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA) "will launch a public consultation shortly" on regulatory framework and policy issues such as spectrum allocation, Mr Iswaran added. He was speaking at the Committee of Supply debate in Parliament, in a reply to a question from MP Ong Teng Koon (Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC) on the Republic's digital infrastructure capabilities. "The digital economy - streaming services, e-commerce and cloud computing - is built on the assumption of uninterrupted access to the Internet," Mr Ong had said. "Loss of connectivity can have potentially catastrophic business consequences ... What are our plans to ensure that our digital infrastructure is able to support our growing digital economy?" Mr Iswaran told the House in reply that "we aim to ensure that we have future-ready and globally competitive digital infrastructure, which is the bedrock of our digital economy". The minister noted that 5G is expected to be as much as 100 times faster than the present 4G systems, with up to 25 times lower latency or lag time, and as many as one million devices supported within one square kilometre - that is, 1,000 times denser than is now possible. "5G has the potential to fundamentally transform our businesses and the way they operate," said Mr Iswaran, pointing to "its capacity to handle many high-demand applications simultaneously". These could include network connectivity for self-driving vehicles, industrial automation and the Internet of Things, and nationwide sensor networks, he observed. Singapore's three incumbent network operators - Singtel, StarHub and M1 - have all kicked off 5G trials with industry partners, including a 5G pilot network in the one-north district, by Singtel and Ericsson.   14. Hey guys - this is probably more appropriate for HWZ - but you're all cleverer and I prefer to talk here, so will try first... Recently got our fiber Broadband with Starhub. So got a nice spanking new D-Link router... Decided to turn my old TP-Link into a bridge to boost the signal to the bedroom....but CANNOT!!! I have changed the settings, turned of DHCP, given it a new IP address so that it connects to the D-Link BUT....it refuses to let me up to the internet.. No doubt some here have got the same D-Link router from Starhub - anybody got any ideas on how I can do the bridge?
  15. Anyone using the above mentioned router from Starhub? Any reviews of it? Am planning a purchase for a new router. Currently using the Asus AC68U. The wifi connection in my master room is very bad once the door closes. worse is when the Mrs and I are using our individual iPads or Macs.
  16. My sil who has had fiber internet and phone for 9 years or so and had fiber TV installed last December had all her fiber connections fail a few days ago. Nothing, nowt, zilch on TV, internet and phone. A Starhub technician was at her HDB yesterday and diagnosed that the fiber signal strength was too great and the fiber termination point box could not cope with the high strength of signal and an Open net/Net Link will have to send a technician to sort it out. Although her system has been working well for four months it seems strange that it failed because the signal was too strong. Apparently no one else in her block had developed this fault. Anyone else here heard of this type of problem and how soon can it be repaired? PS My sil is even less of a techie than I am, if you can imagine that ha ha.
  17. Starhub Broadband cable 100mps cost more than fibre 150mps. Any idea what are the diff interms of real performance ? The guy in the shop told me the following : 1. Cable have higher speed when access international sites. Slower for local sites. 2. Fibre slower when access international sites, but faster for local sites. I cant understand the rational. How fast is fast etc... Can some one explain ? thks
  18. Am using StarHub now and realized that contracts ended last oct. plan to re-contract or switch to M1 for the lower price plan. Wish to ask whether anyone using M1’s plan and any comments?
  19. Previously, Starhub had some extended service downtime, and did customer recovery by giving affected customers access over multiple channels for a particular day. Now, Singtel has this fire incident and is now doing customer recovery by giving customers speed boosts and access to multiple channels. My point is simple - they have got it all wrong. As a customer, I subscribe to channels I want and the speed I best need. When the incidents happened, I was DEPRIVED OF THE SERVICE I PAID FOR. There is no point giving me speed boosts and even access to all/multiple channels to make up. I don't need these at all! Rather, they should proportionately reduce the bill payable for that particular month, simply because I failed to get what I paid and signed a contract for. In addition, for customer recovery, they can choose to throw in some sweeteners, which can include speed boosts and free channels. What the telcos are doing now for customer recovery is simply cheapskate and completely wrong. CASE and the IDA should fight for justice for the hapless consumers who have to take whatever are thrown at them. That is the right thing to do.
  20. Starhub give this 4G Speed boost supposedly for free on my line. I didn't bother too much if it's for free. Suddenly this month, I noticed they charged me $2 for it, after I compared to my previous months bill. I didn't sign up for this. They thrust it to me and now quietly charged $2 bcuz I didn't say NO. This is really underhanded. Just to charge you $2 without you even knowing, if you have not checked. What stupid speed boost? I don't really care about it in the first place. Do check all your telco bills. They are all suckers and playing dirty tricks.
  21. Hi advise needed. I currently on free starhub digital voice home line connected to a non cordless phone in my living hall. I oso have a singtel line that come with mio tv, but I do not want to use it for making phone call as it is chargable. How can I connet a second phone which is cordless to the starhub digital main line, so that I can place it in my room? Tks

  24. ok, I got a small problem I'm using hubstation for long time and I BOUGHT it last time from starhub, not rental from starhub. yes last time can buy from starhub. Been using it for 5 years. now I think the machine up lorry. cannot detect network signal. called starhub. they say cannot repair now. got to rent from them for $8 per month for recording function machine. I fed up now. they say they can send techican to check the machine. if confirm spoilt, I got to change to a rental one. I'm actually using the hub station for broadband. if I give up starhub cable completely, I will have to sign up for broadband plan. any advise? what alternative I have? can PM me if not convenient
