  1. Late morning, i was on a Teams meeting, W'ingFH. My doorbell bo battery, and there was knocking on the door. My father went to open the door, and a conversation started. My father is 86 btw, although still very healthy and fit, could sometimes be 'defensive' -- when got strangers come knocking. 😀 After a minute or two, i told my colleague i need to attend to something first, and ended the call, then went to the door. Got 3 persons standing there, and my father then let me take over. The 3 officers identified themselves as from MOM, and said they were checking on whether we rent or had rented out our house/room to Foreign Workers before. I said no, and they said they're checking cos there is one FW who registered his residential address using our address! Now that's a shock... The officer then explained that if it's not true, then the registration is wrong (i can't remember if he used 'illegal'), and suggested that I go online to check and if need be, to block my address from being used for this purpose. Then another officer took out her handphone to show me the website where this can be done. They then asked me for my name and contact number just in case MOM needs to check anything with me, and left. I was a little shocked, and when i told my parents, they of course started more comments, more shocked, etc. etc. 😂 I then went online -- as advised -- to check, and to my surprise, saw not one, but four, FWs registered to my address!!! The webpage advised to email a complain to MOM if anything is inaccurate, and i did that. Then i removed the 4 names and proceeded to update the record. Not sure whether there's any implication on my address being used, but thought it's useful to share this here. Have never heard of this before... You might want to check whether your address is also being used, and even if not, you can check the "block" option in the webpage so that nobody can use your address even if they want to. The website -- need SingPass to login -- to check is Foreign Worker Tenant Enquiry Service (FWTES)
  2. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/condo-residents-in-jurong-west-shocked-to-find-foreign-workers-listed-as-tenants-under Does it matter, you may ask. If they do use your address and you aren't renting the place out, you may end up paying tax which is much higher instead of the lower tax rate for home stay. So how do you check? Go to this website: https://www.mom.gov.sg/eservices/services/tes If you do find illegal tenants using your address: You can log in to this MOM website with your Singpass: https://www.mom.gov.sg/eservices/services/tes After logging in, you'll be able to check if you have any foreign workers registered under your address, and deregister them.

  5. P1 registration: Child must live at declared address for at least 30 months from July 2, 2015 Children who have secured places in primary schools under the home-school distance priority will be required to stay at the address for at least 30 months from the start of the Primary 1 registration exercise on July 2, 2015. -- PHOTO: ST FILE By Amelia Teng SINGAPORE - Children who have secured places in primary schools under the home-school distance priority scheme will be required to live at the address for at least 30 months from the start of the Primary 1 registration exercise on July 2. This new rule applies to children entering primary school next year. Previously there was no specific length of time set by the Ministry of Education (MOE). The ministry said on its website: "A child who gains priority admission into a school through his/her distance category is required to reside at the address used for registration for at least 30 months from the commencement of the P1 registration exercise on 2 July 2015." The ministry said that there are a small number of cases where families are unable to remain at the registered address for the entire duration of their children's primary school studies. Even so, a child who gains priority admission into school by distance must still abide by the new rule, it said. "If this condition is not met, MOE reserves the right to transfer the child to another school with vacancies, as the priority admission to the first school was based on the declared address used for registration," the ministry said. "The home-school distance category priority is given with the expectation that the family will reside at the address for the duration of the child's primary school studies, as it is for the convenience and interest of the child," it added. Families which have bought a yet-to-be completed property and plan to move in after it is completed, are required to live at the new address for at least 30 months starting from the time the family moves into the property. "For example, if the child registers in 2015 and only moves into the new address in July 2017, the 30 months stay period starts from July 2017," MOE said on its website. In March this year, a father who lied about where he lived to get his daughter into a top primary school was sentenced to two weeks in jail. The 35-year-old self-employed man, who cannot be named to protect his daughter's identity, pleaded guilty in February to giving false information to the school's principal on July 30, 2013. A charge of lying to a police sergeant 10 days earlier to change the address on his identity card was taken into consideration. The man had indicated his address as being within 1km to 2km of the brand-name school, when he registered his daughter under Phase 2C of the Primary 1 registration exercise in 2013. This allowed his daughter to secure a place. His identity card showed the same address, but the man actually lived in Balestier Road, which fell outside the priority radius. The address he provided belonged to his uncle's sister, and had been rented out. His subterfuge came to light when MOE visited the place. 19. http://www.todayonline.com/Singapore/EDC09...earch-directory WHEN telecommunications engineer Chua Kim Cheng saw the People Search function at the Red Nano website, he decided to test it. He typed in his name - and was shocked to see his particulars and address listed. The full addresses of others living in his block were also listed. Mr Chua said he had not given any consent to SPH Search, which runs the Red Nano website, to list his personal details in the public domain. "Imagine, anybody can search the whole block. It would be very useful for marketing people, even loansharks would be interested to know. Anybody can send mail to me or come to my house. They could ask, 'Is Mr Chua in?' Then you would think that is a friend or relative - so anybody would open the door," said a concerned Mr Chua. When contacted by Channel NewsAsia, SPH Search said its data sources are proprietary to the company and it is not at liberty to disclose information on it. It added: "Red Nano People Search is an online white pages directory service that allows users to access and find basic contact information of people living in Singapore. "Our easy-to-use service lets users post and update their contact details on the Internet, upload photos as well as share links to their favourite social networking sites, making their online presence more current and personalised at no charge." However, following feedback from Mr Chua, Red Nano has since taken his particulars off the website. Data protection code is voluntary, but ... Responding to Channel NewsAsia's queries, the Ministry for Communications, Information and The Arts (Mica) said there is a Model Data Protection Code in Singapore. But this is for voluntary adoption by the private sector. Mica added: "The Model Code provides broad guidelines and principles on the proper management of personal information and it has been adopted by many companies, including those engaged in e-commerce under the TrustSG initiative." Under the code, personal data may include an individual's name, age, medical records, spending habits, home address and telephone

  22. Sex education is just an SMS away Source: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin.../410256/1/.html SINGAPORE: Sex education for teenagers is now an SMS or an Internet connection away. Sex expert, Dr Wei Siang Yu, also known as Dr Love, has launched an interactive sexual wellness online forum for teenagers to contact him on issues related to sex. "It is important for parents, teachers and lawmakers to work together and understand today's teenagers from their perspective rather than from our own," he said. But will this hotline stem teenage sex and the transmission of infection among teens? Men's health expert and urologist, Dr Peter Lim, thinks it's worth a try. "Well, we can't stop the march of progress; sex is so rampant on TV. If you can't stop it, at least do it right. We have to teach them to do it maturely and responsibly." However, Dr Rosie King, a sexual health physician at the Sydney Centre for Sexual and Relationship Therapy, had reservations. "It's too late to talk about sex by the time they are teenagers. Sex education should be taught in primary school," she said. "And it does not have to be explicit". Said Dr King: "The topic of sex can be brought up naturally, for instance, when the dog has puppies, when Mum is having another baby
  23. Hi everyone, Just need your friendly advise, perhaps some of you have encoutered similar situation. How can I get rid of unwanted mails being delivered to my address, presumably intended for previous tenants and previous owner of the small condo unit where I now stay. Its been more than a year now since I bought and moved to this new place and still, I get a lot of post mails intended for previous owners/tenants. Tried reaching the previous owner but is no longer reachable. I checked the gov website but did not find a way how I can raise and address this concern. Thanks, your help will be appreciated.
