  1. Hi, I would like to find out more about the usage of the disabled/handicapped parking space/lot. Firstly, I do not have the handicapped sticker/label to stick on the car as I'm not a disabled or handicapped driver. But my grandparents both are having difficulties walking as one is wheel-chair bound while the other sometimes need a wheel-chair or the 4-legged walking support. There was this once when it happens that both are at my relative's place and I'm fetching them home one night. All the available lots were taken up, even the handicapped lots. Finally I waited and one driver went off from one of the handicapped lot and I went ahead to park in it before I called my grandparents to come down to where I parked. This was at the carpark where there is this area allocated for parking with only 2 lanes for incoming and outgoing cars with a continuous single white line in-between where I'm not supposed to park/wait on either side of the road. I don't have the sticker so i can't just park and leave the car there to go fetch my grandparents. As both requires some time to get ready to come down with some assistance so I can only wait for them. Then at this time, there is another car who drove by and both the male driver and his wife stared at me. I was wondering why are they staring at me so sternly? Then the man drove his car very very close to mine, almost scratching the front part of my car. All this while, he was still staring at me. Then his car screeched and stop in front of my car and still staring at me. I'm really wondering what's wrong with this man. Then an old man came down from the car with a walking stick, then I realized why he's been staring at me. I wanted to get off my car and ask if he needs the parking lot so since I'm waiting so let him go first, but his wife came down from the car and stared at me and then he quickly drove round and parked his car opposite mine. I'm really puzzled, then i checked if his car has the disabled/handicapped sticker, he didn't have it. So why is he staring at me all the time? Then when his wife left the old man walking halfway on the path towards the block and quickly went back to the spot where he dropped them, he drove his car quickly again so close to my car (almost scratching) and screeched and stopped in front. Then sped off. I really can't understand this action. I understand that such lots are definitely reserved for those who really need it. But waiting in such lots for handicapped people are also allowed right while they take time to come down? I'd checked with LTA and they said that so long the waiting time is not considerably long and there are no other cars with the disabled parking sticker/label waiting around (if have, i'll have to give way), otherwise it's alright to use it in such situations. But I would still like to check with the people here who are more experienced in their years of driving in terms of morally or driving ethics, can i use the lots for my situation? Would like to hear constructive feedback. If it's not alright for me to do so, how else can I wait for my grandparents when they go to my relative's place again in future? Thanks for taking time to read and reply.
  2. I was told that we need to upgrade the OPC (pay LTA $100 per year) in order to use the car before 3pm on Saturdays, is that still valid? I've used that car but I haven't do such upgrade and I'm not able to buy the eDay license as it is a Saturday(website does not allow), what should I do?
  3. Was informed by the cashier at casino that SG/PR was not allowed to use debit/credit card for casino chips.
  4. Hi everyone, Was involved in a traffic accident where the other party is at fault (clear cut case), lorry bang me from behind at a slip road. My sedan car become hatchback now. Car left with 7months (market value after scrap value about 6k), repair cost estimated by AD to be at 13k-15k. Seems like 3rd party insurer will choose to write off the car. However, my workshop is saying that i cannot claim loss of car usage (courtesy car) from 3rd party insurer until they approve the claim. Which may take weeks or even month. Is this the norm? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

  8. Hi all, This is an update further to my post on NGK BKR6E-11 (a.k.a V-Power) condition at 30k km usage. Ref: http://www.mycarforum.com/index.php?showto...spark*&st=0 Recently I just changed out this new sets of "Copper" spark plug (NGK BKR6E-11) with 40,000 km usage. Price for each spark plug is only S$3.50 and it can last 40km without symptom of mis-firing, difficulties in starting, etc. I only felt acceleration a bit sluggish at it approaches 40k km. Below is the photos of the 4nos spark plugs. I took the gap measurement using feeler gauge. According to specifiction, brand new NGK BKR6E-11 the gap should be 1.1 mm. Photo of No.1 cylinder spark plug is below, and the gap measured is 1.18 mm Photo of No.2 cylinder spark plug is below, and the gap measured is 1.19 mm Photo of No.3 cylinder spark plug is below, and the gap measured is 1.18 mm Photo of No.4 cylinder spark plug is below, and the gap measured is 1.20 mm I visually inspected the tips using 10x magnifier, and noticed that No.1 ~ No.3 spark plugs the edge of the tips looks slightly rounded. No.4 spark plug tip looks the least rounded but gap is the biggest. Grounding condition looks less deteriorated than the tips for all the spark plugs. Conclusion: normal "copper" spark plugs can go 30,000 km on my engine without any issues, but to take it to 40,000 km is a bit pushing it. I think 30k km is the limit for my car.

  10. I recently bought a glass compound product from autobac and was wondering how should I apply or the methods use to obtain optimum result. Should I wash all the glasses with car shampoo first then dry them, use glass cleaner clean them and apply glass compound? Or I can just wet all windows and dry them then apply glass compound? After applying glass compound, wash, dry and everything. Is it ok to apply rain repellent like Rain X?? Or is it recommended to?

  12. Hi Guys, I have a question on the usage of the cigarette socket splitter. First off, a bad experience: I once bought a 3 Normal Split socket type like the one shown below, plugged phone chargers into it and it worked but when I plugged in a heavy duty vacume cleaner, it totally burn out. Think its the voltage thing. I am a noob at such stuff. So had to buy another one. This time round I purchased another which is slightly different, comes with a Cigarette socket and 3 Normal sockets similar to the image below First question: To play safe these days, I would just unplug the spliter sockets and use the original car cigarette socket when I use my vacume cleaner, its once in a while so no big deal. But I wonder if I am just too paranoid. And given that my new splitter actuall is a 1 cigarette + 3 normal socket, I was wondering if I could plug the vacume into the 1 cigarette socket without burning it out again. Does such spliter actually split the voltage even when other sockets are not in use? Second question: Given the new one I have which is 1 Cigarette + 3 normal socket, can I plug the Griffin Power Jolt Dual for Ipad (click for details) into the Cigarette socket while having my phone charger in the normal sockets all at the same time? I thrown away the packaging of the new spliter so I have no idea how many volts is each socket getting. Please let me know if you are using a similar product in a similar manner. Would appreciate the experiences shared. Thanks
  13. Last Sat went for my car servicing, I changed out my normal spark plug (NGK BKR6E-11) after it had clocked 30,000 km. Actually its 29,588 km to be exact. I think it looks quite good considering each costs $3.50 only and 30k km usage would be no problem. I'm using grade 95 Esso petrol, no fuel additive used except when it was 20k km I used Redline F1 fuel system cleaner, and after that no other fuel additive until 30k km. I measured the gap with feeler guage. Original should be 1.1mm, and the results after 30k km usage were two of them @ 1.14mm and the other two @ 1.15mm. Close up of the tip looks good, the "v" profile on the central electrode still looks good, no visible sign of wear. There you go, this show that normal copper spark plug can go 30,000 km usage on my car. A 1.6 litre NA engine.
  14. Just went for operation, on clutches. Want to go shopping and not stay at home all the time. please advise.
  15. Just want to know where is the link (if there is one) to find out state land use plans. E.g. if you see some kind of initial construction work carried out on a big piece of empty field next to HDB blocks, but no signboard whatsoever saying what is being constructed, or whether anything is being planned in future for a big piece of empty land - where to find out this info? URA website? Appreciate the assistance, thanks.
  16. Just want to share with the bros here about the Superb's gear shift. Recently my gear shift had some issues and it was detected that the contact release button to the clutch was snapped under the silver button, this caused my gear not to be able to be shifted to drive mode after it was at park mode, it was later rectified at Skoda dealership as it was covered under warranty. As I spoke to the technician he suggested the following proper technique in shifting gears. In the two pictures I posted, shows the correct way to depress the clutch release(chrome shiny button) with your thumb spread evenly over the entire contract surface of the release button and depress it at an even pressure. This will ensure the connector switch in to contact properly as you shift the gear from park mode to drive/neutral/1/2 gear. The second picture shows the incorrect way of depress the clutch release. In this wrong prosture illustration, unknowingly you the one-sided pressure contact point over time will force the contact point under the switch to be angled and thus cause it to snap within the switch, this is probably due to wear and tear, through in proper contact, but it is covered under warranty during the warrany months. I would encourage the bros/sis to use the proper technique to extend the lifespan of your gear shift and enjoy your ride.
  17. I am still on stock tyre after 2.5 years and mileage is only 28k. The thread is still good. How long before I need to change tyre? Can last for 5 years?
  18. Apologies if this has been posted. Nokia Maps Navigation is now free. Previously, maps are free but navigation have to pay. Now, both Maps (global maps) and Navi are both free for these phones Nokia X6, Nokia E52, Nokia E72, Nokia N97 mini, Nokia 6710 Navigator, Nokia 6730 classic, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia 5230. If I am not wrong, this makes 5230 the cheapest GPS device? ($28 w/2 yr contract) Source: http://www.nokia.com.sg/explore-services/o...=&HBX_OU=50 Nokia Maps does comes with Singapore postal code search. But may not be the best navi s/w for Singapore. In countries like AU, US which I have used, pretty ok. For Noobs, GPS (Satellite) usage is free. Only if you use AGPS, u incur GPRS charges. This can be disabled in the phone. Dunno how ? Search or RTFM

  22. Dear All, My ride is OPC n due to my low usage on it, my mileage currently is only about 8.3K (car is now 2 yrs++ old). My last servicing was done about 1yr ago (5K servicing) n I am still on Mineral Oil. Should I hold till my mileage hit 10K or should I send in asap (I remember my last 5K servicing, the mechanics paste a sticker stating next service period is either 3mths or 10K) I have been asking around, some told me usually OPC owner will peg their servicing session to time period (ie. Mineral Oil 3 mths, syn oil 6mths) while there r others whom told me to only send it in based on the mileage achieved. Any Advice? Thanks ** Pls dun mock at me for buying a car n not using it often. Some tragic stuff happened in the family that kinda of screwed up my initial plans on the car usage.
  23. times are bad. we do not need SPURS or job credits. Let us use our CPF to tide over the bad times. Its our $$, why can't we use our own $$ to tide us over? Is there a need to lock up the citizens $$? Can there be some flexibility from the elites?
