  2. The Impressive Engineering Behind The Cheapest Electric Car In The World The cheapest new electric car in the world, the $1,200 Changli Nemeca from Chinese e-commerce website Alibaba, is a truly amazing machine. This became clear as soon as my coworker Jason Torchinsky unboxed the car and saw its unexpected features, and even more so when he drove it. But it wasn’t until he and I looked at the tech under the skin that we truly realized the Changli’s unbelievable value. Here’s a look at the engineering behind the incredible 1.1 horsepower Changli. Jason had a vision last year: He was going to buy the cheapest electric car in the world from Alibaba, ship it across the ocean to the U.S., deal with all the customs paperwork, truck the car down to his place in North Carolina, and show the world what the wackiest form of EV ownership looks like. Amazingly, despite uncertainty within our company, and despite the coronavirus and related economic turmoil, he pulled it off. The car that began life in Jiangsu, China now sits in Jason’s backyard in Chapel Hill, where the machine immediately blew us away with its impressive features.
  3. MUMBAI: There was the $400 airplane seat that plummeted to $40. Then there was the $2,000 laptop reborn for $200. And now the $25,000 car has a $2,500 cousin. Every now and again in business history, a disruption comes along that breaks the conventional wisdom about cost, tweaking and paring features once thought untouchable. Likewise, the $2,500 car, scheduled for introduction Thursday by the Indian company Tata, swims against the current, with a rear-mounted engine, a trunk that fits little more than a briefcase, and plastics and adhesives replacing metal and bolts in certain nooks. (Some analysts expect the car to be priced closer to $3,000, still making it the cheapest on earth.) But the still-untold story of how the Tata car was built is less about big-bang innovations than about a long string of $20 trims: a steering-wheel shaft rendered hollow here, a small headlight leveler removed there, the use of an analog speedometer less accurate than its digital equivalent. The car is thus a triumph, not of one great invention but of a new engineering philosophy rising out of the developing world, with potential to change how cars everywhere are made, industry experts say. Just as Japan popularized kanban (just in time) and kaizen (continuous improvement), so Tata may export to the world what can perhaps be called "Gandhi engineering" - a mantra that combines irreverence toward established ways with a scarcity mentality that spurns superfluities. "It's basically throwing out everything the auto industry had thought about cost structures in the past and taking out a clean sheet of paper and asking, 'What's possible?' " said Daryl Rolley, the head of North American and Asian operations for Ariba, which provides parts for Tata and other auto makers like BMW and Toyota. "In the next 5 to 10 years, the whole auto industry is going to be flipped upside-down.";

  8. Come come, make a wild guess, how cheap can a functioning Ferrari be? ... It is a real deal, not some fake stuff ... Not the zhnged type or wanna be too ... Now, sit tight, the answer might make you fall off from your chair ... You Could Buy This Ferrari 599 GTB For Just US$250 (~S$340) In China This is a Ferrari 599 GTB which could sell for as little as $250. No, your eyes are not deceiving you. This particular Ferrari is currently in the possession of police in Dongguan, China after it was involved in an accident. It is claimed that the Italian supercar was uninsured and unregistered when police got their hands on it. This means it cannot be registered or driven anywhere in China and is being sold as scrap metal. “There is no information about this vehicle at the Vehicle Management Office, so it’s non-transferable and can’t be driven,” a spokeswoman from the Dongguan Third People’s Court said to The Sun. “That’s why it’s so cheap—we viewed it as scrap metal, and its scrap evaluation came to $347 (2,430 RMB). We then offered a 30 percent discount on that for our auction.” Images provided of the car show it covered in a thick layer of dust but the engine is said to be in working order. With a thorough exterior and interior detail, the 599 could look as good as new. No mention has been made about the vehicle’s mileage but let’s be honest, the mileage doesn’t matter. This is a Ferrari which will have a starting bid of just $250 when the auction commences in the coming days. Even if it’s the highest-mileage 599 on earth, it’s still the bargain of the century. It’s unclear if the car can be exported out of China and registered for road use elsewhere or if it must stay on Chinese shores. If it can’t leave the country, there’s still a lot of money to be made from the car. For example, the winning bidder could strip it down and sell it for parts.
  9. Will start this thread for users to share and query on their commonly use route from point A to Point B and cost of ERP. Anyone can share what’s the cost effective way of driving let’s say from Sengkang/Punggol to Tanjong Pagar from 730am?
  10. Horsepower has always been a universal indicator of a car's performance. So, let's find out what are the cars that offers the lowest cost per bhp! To a car enthusiast, every detail in the specification sheet of a car is important as they all play a part in painting a complete picture of the car in point. To most people, however, information such as 'double wishbones suspension', 'Carbon fibre monocoque' or 'gasoline direct injection' are just technical jargons that serve little purpose. Horsepower, however, is much simpler to understand. As the term suggests, the origin of this unit of measurement came from the desire to compare the output of an engine to that of horses (which were used to complete tasks such as pulling carriages in the past). So, more horsepower equals to more energy which is surely a plus point! Our aim here is to find the cars that give you your metaphorical horses at the lowest price point, which will no doubt means the best deal (because, clearly, power is the only thing that matters). Here are the top 20 new cars with the cheapest horsepower. 1. Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI RS245 $539/bhp Price: $129,900 (including COE) Bhp: 241 OMV: $26,004 Annual Depreciation: $11,600 2. Am budget conscious and no not mind size, style or performance, but as wife and/or my dad might sometimes drive it too, am looking for a car that has auto transmission and also ABS (for basic safety concern). Old car is fine, and am thinking of the non-jap makes as cars of 4-8 yr old came in at time when yen was strong so jap makes should be more expensive? Am thinking of Chevrolet Aveo. Is that the cheapest car that comes with auto and ABS? Anyone has any advice on this? Much appreciated. tks.

  21. installed lowering spring last year, as expected the shocks gave way in less than a year. Anyway was testing was whether i am happy with the lower ride and sad to say i am hooked and will NEVER go back to stock. At this stage, my wife will kill me if i go back to stock .Already 2 ppl vomited in my car when on stock, my baby & my mother-in-law, not to mention a few near missed at low speeds!!!! due to the very very poor suspension setup...after lowering spring no problems at all. Dont know how they can sell the 08 Altis as a family car....maybe family boat but NOT a family car. IMO its one of the worst car available in stock (thats another story)..unfortunately no $$, so stuck with it. last few week have been hitting the speed humps and the road on carpark ramps. Already White Sands carpark, SingPost carpark and 2 HDB MSCP will hit the bottom even if i crawl over the slope. The lowering spring was good but its time to move on (the rear sag too low...only 1/2 finger). dont wish to go back to stock or stock height so what is the cheapest coilover? friend recommend GAB SS (do in JB). read also BC BR is cheap but cannot find in the marketplace (they only have BC V1). Have been searching internet but not much info cause i guess not many ppl with an Altis will upgrade their suspension (heck we dont even have a legal exhaust despite being one of the most common car on the road!!!).
