Are you aware of a rare eclipse that's gonna be seen in Singapore tomorrow (26 Dec) just around noon time? It's not a big thing here, but a friend of mine who moved to UK, has purposely came back for vacation this month just for this. He said he made the decision about 2 yr ago when he first heard it's going to be seen in SG. For those who are interested, here's something circulating on Whatsapp. And there's a few articles in the news... Remember to have ample protection instead of staring straight at the sun, though. From my high HDB I can look down on 12 storey HDB. There looks to be some work going on on a group of 12 storey HDB nearby where they appear to be installing solar panels on the roof. Is this correct and have they been installed elsewhere? I think it's a good idea.

DaZheng (Jiangsu) Micro-Nano Technologies invested 80 million yuan ($11.8 million) to build a production line with an annual capacity of 10 megawatts in Jiangsu Province. The 40 cm by 60 cm panels will be cut into smaller pieces and shipped to smartphone and tablet makers in China. DaZheng will invest 200 million yuan in 2023 to expand its annual production capacity to 100 MW, Chief Technology Officer Li Xin told Nikkei. Perovskite solar cells were pioneered in 2009 by Toin University of Yokohama engineering professor Tsutomu Miyasaka and his team. Although these lightweight cells have a power conversion efficiency of around 10% -- about half that of silicon cells -- they can be incorporated into windows, walls and more. Smaller perovskite cells have been mass-produced before, but DaZheng is the first to do so for large panels. While these cells currently cost three times as much to make as conventional silicon cells, this could potentially be brought down to half at a higher scale. Lightweight and bendable, perovskite cells are expected to have a variety of new applications. There is hope that the cells can eventually be applied by a printer, or be painted onto entire cars. The global market for perovskite solar cells is projected to expand to over $2 billion by 2027 with annual growth averaging about 29% starting in 2022, according to Indian research company Astute Analytica. Japanese companies like Kyocera and Sharp were once leading players in solar cells but downsized operations over the years as price competition ate into profits. Chinese and South Korean players now control much of the market. Japanese companies have little capacity to make new investments, allowing China to take the lead in large-scale perovskite panels. DaZheng's Li studied under Miyasaka and continued his research after returning to China. Miyasaka also provided development support. -

The veteran spacecraft has been exploring our solar system and interstellar space since 1977. It is now 14.5 billion miles away from Earth, making it the most distant human-made object. NASA's Voyager 1 is continuing its journey beyond our solar system, 45 years after it was launched. But now the veteran spacecraft is sending back strange data, puzzling its engineers. NASA said on Wednesday that while the probe is still operating properly, readouts from its attitude articulation and control system — AACS for short — don't seem to match the spacecraft's movements and orientation, suggesting the craft is confused about its location in space. The AACS is essential for Voyager to send NASA data about its surrounding interstellar environment as it keeps the craft's antenna pointing right at our planet. "A mystery like this is sort of par for the course at this stage of the Voyager mission," Suzanne Dodd, a project manager for Voyager 1 and 2 at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said in a statement. "The spacecraft are both almost 45 years old, which is far beyond what the mission planners anticipated." NASA said Voyager 1's twin, the Voyager 2 probe, is behaving normally. Launched in 1977 to explore the outer planets in our solar system, Voyager 1 has remained operational long past expectations and continues to send information about its journeys back to Earth. The trailblazing craft left our solar system and entered interstellar space in 2012. It is now 14.5 billion miles away from Earth, making it the most distant human-made object. NASA said that from what its engineers can tell, Voyager 1's AACS is sending randomly generated data that does not "reflect what's actually happening onboard." But even if system data suggests otherwise, the spacecraft's antenna seems to be properly aligned — it is receiving and executing commands from NASA and sending data back to Earth. It said that so far the system issue hasn't triggered the aging spacecraft to go into "safe mode," during which it carries out only essential operations. "Until the nature of the issue is better understood, the team cannot anticipate whether this might affect how long the spacecraft can collect and transmit science data," NASA said. Dodd and her team hope to figure out what's prompting the robot emissary from Earth to send junky data. "There are some big challenges for the engineering team," Dodd said. A major one: It takes light 20 hours and 33 minutes to get to Voyager's current interstellar location, so a round-trip message between the space agency and Voyager takes two days. "But I think if there's a way to solve this issue with the AACS, our team will find it," Dodd added. -
Microsoft to buy solar power in Singapore in first renewable deal in Asia REUTERS Mar 01, 2018 SINGAPORE - Microsoft Corp said on Thursday it will buy solar power from the Sunseap Group in Singapore, the technology company's first renewable energy deal in Asia. Microsoft will purchase 100 per cent of the electricity generated from Sunseap's 60 megawatt-peak solar power project for 20 years for its Singapore data operations, the software company said in a statement. Sunseap's project consists of an array of solar panels on hundreds of rooftops across the city-state. "This deal is Microsoft's first renewable energy deal in Asia, and is our third international clean energy announcement, following two wind deals announced in Ireland and the Netherlands in 2017," said Christian Belady, general manager, cloud infrastructure strategy and architecture at Microsoft. Microsoft said it is on track to exceed its goal of powering 50 per cent of its global datacenter load with renewable energy this year. "Once operational, the new solar project will bring Microsoft's total global direct procurement in renewable energy projects to 860 megawatts," Belady said. looking to replace my front 3 solar film.. tried those usual names like artoftint,zen and even 3m (which is given by AD), not that satisfactory saw the reviews of v-kool seems pretty good, any current users of X75?

Hi all, Do you know what is the difference between 3m normal solar film and crystalline solar film ? Anyone used it before ? Which is better ? It seems the some people use the normal film for the front windscreen and crystalline for the rear ? Why is that ? Thanks

And went on to understand and enquiry about the different types of solar films offered in Singapore. To my surprise some Top brands do not seem to offer very good types of solar films and instead its the lesser known companies that do I understand that Metallic films will cause IU/GPS interference and are the lesser preferred. And IR% would be most important for heat rejection. I asked for their top specs and for my mid-size saloon BMW 320I and all LTA approved. Toyota Covers Prius With Solar Panels That Also Charge Battery On The Move Automakers are looking to maximize the driving range of their plug-in hybrid and all-electric vehicles, and solar panels are the hottest solution right now — literally. Toyota is well aware of that and has announced a plan to begin public road trials from late July 2019 with Prius PHV vehicles equipped with high-efficiency solar batteries. The trials will take place in Japan and benefit from the support of Sharp Corporation and the country’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). As part of the program, Sharp will supply onboard solar battery panels using high-efficiency cells. According to the automaker, the goal is “to assess the effectiveness of improvements in cruising range and fuel efficiency of electrified vehicles equipped with high-efficiency solar batteries.” Toyota installed the Sharp-supplied solar panels on the roof, hood, rear hatch door, and other parts of the Prius PHV to produce a demo car for public road trials. Compared to the Prius PHV that’s already available with a solar charging roof system, the demo car is superior in every respect. At 860 W, the rated power generation output is 4.8 times bigger and the solar battery cell conversion efficiency exceeds 34 percent (versus 22.5 percent). Most importantly, the demo car uses a system that charges the driving battery both while the car is parked and when on the move. This development is expected to lead to “considerable improvements in electric-powered cruising range and fuel efficiency.” More specifically, Toyota claims the experimental vehicle’s daily maximum charge to the battery while the vehicle is parked is equivalent to a driving range of 44.5 km (27.6 miles), compared to the production car’s 6.1 km (3.8 miles). Things get better when the car is moving, as the daily maximum charge and power supply to the driving and auxiliary battery amounts to a driving range of 56.3 km (35 miles). The production Prius PHV’s solar charging system only supplies power on the move to the auxiliary battery, which powers the navigation and other systems. Toyota will conduct the trials under various driving conditions in Toyota City, Tokyo, and other areas in its homeland. The goal is to use resulting data for the development of an onboard solar recharging system. I know some are going to say it look like sh*t (tai gor in dialect), but given that it can provide energy for >50Km per day, I don't mind actually, not only to save my wallet, but our mother earth.

hi Guys, want to install solar film for my car, heard a lot of adv for cool and light, don't know good or not? anyone tried before? any other recommendation, UV and heat reflection is a factor but not necessary be best one as my car glass already got some protection according to the spec, but importantly the workmanship must be good, i don't want bubbles on my wind screen after few months

Any bros here tried connecting small solar panels (18v) like 4W or so to trickle charge your battery especially if you seldom drives? Do you connect the solar panel directly to battery with the wires to car still connected? What voltage/wattage solar panel you you use? When your car starts, will the alternator power kill the solar panel if you leave it there?

HI, I just got my window install with HO, only the right side of the window is poorly installed. Front got alot of dust particles and the rear have a line, like those you forcely squeeze through the air bubbles. I send email to the SE but he didnt reply. Sure i just pop by the shop and ask them to reinstalled? Please adv what to do next? REgards

Which Solar film for front is LTA legal and 99% IR rejection

I called many companies from the motor directory and none of them has LTA legal front windscreen solar film that has 99% IR rejection. if it is true that there is no 99% IR rejection film with at least 70% VLT, then which legal film has the best IR rejection? -
Hi all was wondering if any bros bought a Seiko Astron. IMHO its the most technologically advanced watch todate with amazing accuracy. Time is GPS synced automatically to a satellite and it does this when it detects sunlight as it charges. see: http://www.ablogtowatch.com/seiko-astron-gps-solar-chronograph-watch-baselworld-2014/ The High Intensity Titanium versions r the ones I like the most, although they cost more. Pls share your thoughts and experience. Oh by the way I know that this lowly watch will not appeal to the watch purists who favour their Tags, Omegas, Rolex etc so I am not comparing this watch to any of the premium models. The focus here is the technology behind the watch and how the manufacturer brought it all into one completely package.

Hi bros, is anyone of you using 3M solar film and find it really bad? I have the supposed "premium plus" 3M film installed on my ford mondeo and I find the heat rejection really bad. Just 2 hours under hot sun and the whole car becomes an absolute oven... take about full 10 min to cool the car down with air con full blast. When I called 3M to ask why their product is so bad, they said it's already one of their top range solar film. When I enquired about their heat rejection rate, she said it's only 40% front and 42% rear. Doesn't sound very good to be honest. And I must say I had expected more from 3M products and services. Now I'm seriously contemplating ripping off the 3M film and installing others... even if it's those no-brand films with high heat rejection rates. Any that you guys can recommend?
