  1. https://www.reuters.com/technology/microsoft-cut-thousands-jobs-sky-news-2023-01-17/ Jan 17 (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) plans to cut thousands of jobs with some roles expected to be eliminated in human resources and engineering divisions, according to media reports on Tuesday. The expected layoffs would be the latest in the U.S. technology sector, where companies including Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) and Meta Platforms Inc (META.O) have announced retrenchment exercises in response to slowing demand and a worsening global economic outlook. Microsoft's move could indicate that the tech sector may continue to shed jobs. "From a big picture perspective, another pending round of layoffs at Microsoft suggests the environment is not improving, and likely continues to worsen," Morningstar analyst Dan Romanoff said. U.K broadcaster Sky News reported, citing sources, that Microsoft plans to cut about 5% of its workforce, or about 11,000 roles. The company plans to cut jobs in a number of engineering divisions on Wednesday, Bloomberg News reported, according to a person familiar with the matter, while Insider reported that Microsoft could cut recruiting staff by as much as one-third. The cuts will be significantly larger than other rounds in the past year, the Bloomberg report said. Microsoft declined to comment on the reports. The company had 221,000 full-time employees, including 122,000 in the United States and 99,000 internationally, as of June 30, according to filings. Microsoft is under pressure to maintain growth rates at its cloud unit Azure, after several quarters of downturn in the personal computer market hurt Windows and devices sales. It had said in July last year that a small number of roles had been eliminated. In October, news site Axios reported that Microsoft had laid off under 1,000 employees across several divisions. Shares of Microsoft, which is set to report quarterly results on Jan. 24, were marginally higher in late afternoon trading.
  2. Microsoft to buy solar power in Singapore in first renewable deal in Asia REUTERS Mar 01, 2018 SINGAPORE - Microsoft Corp said on Thursday it will buy solar power from the Sunseap Group in Singapore, the technology company's first renewable energy deal in Asia. Microsoft will purchase 100 per cent of the electricity generated from Sunseap's 60 megawatt-peak solar power project for 20 years for its Singapore data operations, the software company said in a statement. Sunseap's project consists of an array of solar panels on hundreds of rooftops across the city-state. "This deal is Microsoft's first renewable energy deal in Asia, and is our third international clean energy announcement, following two wind deals announced in Ireland and the Netherlands in 2017," said Christian Belady, general manager, cloud infrastructure strategy and architecture at Microsoft. Microsoft said it is on track to exceed its goal of powering 50 per cent of its global datacenter load with renewable energy this year. "Once operational, the new solar project will bring Microsoft's total global direct procurement in renewable energy projects to 860 megawatts," Belady said. The solar project is under construction and will be operational by the end of the year, the companies said. http://www.asiaone.com/singapore/microsoft-buy-solar-power-singapore-first-renewable-deal-asia

  11. Got this from HWZ. I tried liao and got 4 product keys out of 5 attempt. Waiting for the last key to process, which is strange as I got the other 4 keys almost immediately after I complete the order. Anyway Office 2013 is not release yet, and this could very well be an error on Microsoft part, or they testing their ordering page. Though my order went thru, I hope they honor it if it's really an error, coz I finally going legit with my software since the $17.99 Windows 8 deal. Read about it here from HWZ, http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/eat-drin...-a-4048122.html Disclaimer: Try at your own risk.

  14. Microsoft has teamed up with the Volkswagen Group to develop the next generation of automotive information and entertainment delivery strategies. It has signed a patent licensing agreement with Volkswagen Group's software supplier e.solutions, giving the Germany-based company access to Extended File Allocation Table (exFAT) technology - the latest generation of Microsoft's file system. The agreement is the first of its kind that Microsoft has forged within the automotive sector. exFAT delivers a significant leap forward in the size of media files that can be stored on a broad range of consumer electronic devices and increases the speed with which they can be accessed. exFAT will give car owners additional and reliable resources for bringing multimedia content into their vehicles. The goal of the joint venture is to provide an infotainment software suite to enhance reuse of software for in-vehicle infotainment and to drive innovations. The company is developing technologies for a new multimedia platform that will provide a longer menu of infotainment options while reducing drivers' distraction. Using exFAT technology will help e.solutions follow future consumer electronics developments while delivering an outstanding multimedia experience. "exFAT will help the auto industry and other industries make it easier for their customers to move large audio and video files across devices," said David Kaefer, general manager of Intellectual Property Licensing at Microsoft. "e.solutions is leading the way for the auto industry, and we're pleased to make exFAT available to them and to others through our patent licensing program." Microsoft offers flexible intellectual property licensing programs that give companies access to many of the foundational technologies in its own products, allowing those companies to build devices, applications and services that work seamlessly with each other.
