  1. Is there really a need to build a new indoor stadium with similar sitting capacity, just to be ahead of the game (and to bring in more tourist $$$)? I think swiftie's effect have gone wrong somehow. Is that why our GST need to increase years after years??? In Chinese, we say 被钱冲昏了头脑。。。And this ET is like a 败家子 imo. FYI, I spoke to friends in construction industries, yes, it will cost millions of $$$ to improve on power supply capacity, but definitely will be much much lesser than demolishing and building a new indoor stadium. Isn't tearing down good building for a new one against our pledge of going green?! Source: https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/indoor-stadium-new-arena-kallang-mccy-4176951 SINGAPORE: Singapore is planning to build a new arena to replace the Singapore Indoor Stadium, which opened its doors nearly 35 years ago. To be located adjacent to the Indoor Stadium, the yet unnamed venue will be "among the best-in-class globally", Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Edwin Tong said on Thursday (Mar 7), as he outlined his ministry's spending plans for the year. Concerts and sporting events often require more power than the Indoor Stadium’s infrastructure can handle, the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) said during a media briefing last week. Money, time and resources need to be spent to add extra power or electrical support. Meanwhile, countries in the region have built or are building indoor arenas that can host more sophisticated events or have faster turnaround times. They also offer greater value propositions to spectators, such as more varied hospitality suites. "Our competitors are not standing still, and we, likewise, must continually innovate and evolve if we want to continue to attract top-tier events," said Mr Tong in parliament, noting that high-quality international events are valuable and highly sought after. Singapore has "gone around to study some of the best arenas in the world, to learn from them", he said. The new indoor arena will support Singapore's vision for the surrounding Kallang Alive precinct to host world-class events and serve as a homeground for national athletes among other purposes. Plans are in their early stages and the Singapore Indoor Stadium will continue to operate for now. "This minimises disruption to the pipeline of events and programming, which can continue throughout the construction period for the new arena," said Mr Tong. MCCY is considering future uses for the Indoor Stadium, which was officially opened on the last day of 1989. The Indoor Stadium and its supporting infrastructure cost S$90 million (US$67.1 million) to build. It can seat up to 12,000 and the new arena should "at least have the same capacity", said Mr Tong on Thursday. Several major sports and entertainment events have been held at the Indoor Stadium over the years, from Kanye West and Tina Turner to the World Wrestling Entertainment and Women's Tennis Association Finals. In the past year, it has hosted performances by Cantopop star Jacky Cheung and veteran K-pop group Shinee.

  9. Since young till now, my earliest memory had always been somewhere when I was 3 to 4 years old. My family used to live in a kampong when I was very young, rearing chicken, ducks, and pigs, and we lived in a wooden house with zinc roof. Back then, the worse thing I could remember was pythons that could swallow livestocks and bigger animals, and I still remember hearing commotion in the middle of the nights when pythons were spotted in the coops feasting on our livelihood, and fearing when would be my turn. I remembered one afternoon when I woke up from napping to finding nobody in the house, when normally my mum would be. It was hysterical moments as I cried and cried fearing the worst, even when my mum showed up moments later as she was tending to something in neighbour's house nearby. The memory and fear was so vivid that I could remember till this day, and I was around 3 to 4 years old then. But all along since young I have been having a weird and unique recollection of certain event. The setting was again in some sort of kampong village. And I remember myself naked, and minding my business, not sure what it was though. All around me, the people were reacting normally, not taken aback by my condition. But I would feel so shameful that I would cringe at the thought. I do not know why, but this memory would keep flashing in the dreams and some idle thoughts, not knowing why it happened that I would be naked and nobody reacting to it. I had even saw an online article recently about an old man who like to roam his kampong naked on a bicycle, and keep thinking am I that kuku bird haha. Then only recently it occurred to me that it must be my brain trying to remember some distant memory when I was very young and trying to make sense of them. Well that naked person is real, and me when I was really young I believe. No wonder nobody gave a hoot because it is normal for a baby to be naked those days. And I was really glad that this mystery had finally been solved. Really happy to be frank, as it sort of proves my sanity haha. Ok I hope I had not bored anyone with this little sharing about myself (Not young anymore, by the way). Do feel free to share what you remember as the earliest event you could still remember. If you have nothing to contribute but just had a laugh reading it, I am also happy with it, as this is really a weird topic to start with. My apologies also if you think you have wasted few minutes of your time reading through the words. Cheers.

  22. Four times the indulgence Pop-up gastro events were once limited to temporary restaurants or supper clubs with fashionably restricted seating. Invites were sometimes exclusive, with the clandestine dissemination of information regarding the venue, which could be someone’s home or a vacant shophouse. But business-wise, it also proffered a way to make a quick killing before monotony squeezed the life out of a concept’s novel charms. These days, while the general idea endures, pop-ups have grown to encompass a bloated range of juicy choices. Take Savour Events’ biggest local undertaking since the launch of its eponymous weekend food festival two years ago. Dubbed 4 X FOUR, this large-scale full-service pop-up restaurant (the largest in Singapore so far) debuts with four distinctive cuisines by five internationally acclaimed chefs. It’s a 20-day celebration encompassing nine lunch sessions and 20 dinner services taking place inside a purpose-built structure on Bayfront Avenue in the Marina Bay area, paired with light projection art and installations by local artists. Try to imagine a 7,000sq-ft, 8m-high state-of-the-art venue that can seat up to 100 guests. A draw is the chance to sample possibly one of the last meals by the team from the recently defunct Spanish restaurant Can Fabes, which once sported three Michelin stars in the hands of the late Santi Santamaria. From Nov 8 to 13, Santi’s daughter Regina leads the team that will be reunited with Peruvian chef Daniel Chavez, former head chef at Santi Singapore, offering restrained modern twists of classic Catalan cuisine. (Chavez, by the way, has his own restaurant, Ola — Cocina del Mar at the Marina Bay Financial Centre.) In contrast, Hong Kong’s Bo Innovation chef and founder Alvin Leung will be serving his provocative and decidedly radical interpretation of Chinese fare (Nov 20 to 23). “All dishes have been resized to main-portion sizes so we expect patrons to be happily full,” Leung said. 24. Was buying tickets at Shaw last Friday when I spotted Kaykay, the famous singaporean blogger!! She walked past me and walked up red carpet to this huge red and black DBS booth and tapped her phone.... When suddenly this huge flash mob appeared from nowhere!! Screaming fans, bouncers, red carpet ladies... it was utter chaos for a while haha Kaykay looked a bit embarrassed. Anyway apparently Kaykay won 5 IMAX tickets just by tapping her phone and downloading mobile coupons. After that of course I went up to tap my phone (which Singaporean won't want free stuff right) and won a popcorn combo It's a DBS One Tap thing that needs an NFC-enabled phone, which means samsung s3, blackberry etc... Was anyone else at Shaw last friday?? Did you guys win anything?
