  1. Winners of DBS X Esso 25th Anniversary Grand and Weekly Draw
  2. Folks, here are the 10 nominees for this year's prestigious award:- https://www.straitstimes.com/lifestyle/race-is-on Tell me what you think, your views, feedback and some debate would be interesting. You can cast your vote online and ST will reveal the champion on 29 DEC 2018. Sadly, not all cars that were produced in 2018 is in this shortlist. If it was up to me, I would consider ownership depreciation, reliability and NVH. Therefore, I would pick KIA Stinger as the obvious winner. For it's price of having a RWD terrain and a wonderful gearbox, not to mention it's handsome and muscular looks and with a size bigger than the 3 series or Jag XE,it is the most affordable grand tourer/sport sedan in the market right now. Cheers!

  9. Here we go again! http://women.asiaone.com/women/people/miss-world-singapore-2015-draws-flak-myanmar-roots Miss World Singapore 2015 draws flak for Myanmar roots Charlene ChuaThe New PaperSunday, Oct 25, 2015 20151023_limelite2.jpg Winning a beauty pageant has been her dream since she was a little girl. Miss Charity Maru, also known as Charity Lu Lu Seng, finally tasted sweet victory on Wednesday night. The 24-year-old freelance translator beat 13 other contestants to be crowned Miss World Singapore 2015 at the One Farrer Hotel & Spa. But her joy was quickly tainted by criticism online that she is not the best person to represent Singapore at the international finals on Dec 19 in Sanya, China. The debate started because Miss Maru, is a relatively new citizen: She received her pink IC only in 2007. She was born in northern Myanmar to a Kachin family. The Kachin people are made up of ethnic groups who inhabit the northern Kachin State and neighbouring areas of China and India. Miss Maru, who is proud of her Kachin roots, said she loves Singapore and does not see why she cannot have the best of both worlds in her pageant journey. "One of my goals I set for myself should I win Miss World Singapore was to introduce my people to the world." When asked what she meant by "my people", Miss Maru said she meant the Kachin. "I believe that I am the first Kachin to take part in the Miss World Pageant. "Also, now that I am Singaporean, I want to represent Singapore well at the finals by showing that charity, which is a big component of Miss World, should be a lifestyle choice instead of a one-off thing." Some of her online detractors were adamant that should they support Miss Maru, they want her to identify only with being Singaporean when she takes to the world stage. Wrote one netizen: "Charity is a Singapore citizen with a pink Singapore identity card. "She is not representing Myanmar and therefore...she should be proud, and only be proud, to be a Singaporean." On the flak she has received, Miss Maru told The New Paper: "I grew up here, this is my home and I'm proud to be a Singaporean. "I hope people would respect me just as a Singaporean." CAME HERE AT 12 Miss Maru, who is 1.7m tall, was brought up by her grandmother and aunts in Myanmar as her parents came to Singapore to work when she was young. Her father is a senior engineer and her retired mother was a nurse in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. When she was 12, her parents brought her here to live with them. The former student of Balestier Hill Primary School, Beatty Secondary School and Singapore Polytechnic has been volunteering for the last two years as a Sunday school teacher at Kachin Baptist Church (Singapore), where she enjoys being a youth leader. Although she had, from the time she was young, yearned to be a beauty queen, she refused to join beauty pageants because most of them required participants to wear swimsuits. Said Miss Maru: "So when I read that this year (for the first time in 63 years), Miss World was going to remove the swimsuit round from the international finals, it was a dream come true for me to join the local pageant, and then actually win it. "I had joined it secretly and told my parents only on the morning of the (local) finals that I was a Miss World finalist." As a nod to Miss World's chairman Julia Morley's decision to cut the swimsuit round, the organiser of Miss World Singapore, Mr Raymund Ooi, also turned the bikini segment this year into a casual wear segment. Miss Maru is also more determined than ever to "improve" on herself as she wants to win a title at the competition. For example, she will be working on her catwalk, which she feels is not up to standard. The self-confessed sweat-hater, who weighs 56kg, also intends to do more toning exercises so that she will have a better physique. From now to the competition, she will not eat dinner and will have her last meal every day at 4pm in order to keep her weight down. She will also be working hard on her community project in Singapore, which will count for 40 per cent of her score in China. Said Miss Maru: "I am prepared to win something at the Miss World finals. "I will do everything that I can to get it for Singapore.
  10. By Elena Chong A man who stole a total of eight iPads worth $6,824 from the Police Technology Department was jailed for three months on Monday. Yap Bao Fa, 27, was working as a senior support officer in the Singapore Police Force when he stole from the headquarters at Irrawaddy Road . He admitted to three counts of theft involving four iPads between Aug 16 and Sept 10 last year. The remaining four charges were taken into consideration. The court heard that he was authorised to access the secure metal cabinet at the Police Technology Department where new Apple iPads were stored. He had to scan his staff card and key a password into the Key Management System to open the "key press'' to retrieve the keys. When a number of iPads were found missing from the cabinet on Sept 10, a check of the access log records of the "key press'' showed that Yap had accessed it to get the key to the cabinet a number of times. Three iPads worth $2,559 were recovered. He could have been jailed for up to seven years and fined on each charge. http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/...rtment-20130715
  11. sgCarMart recently held a contest where two lucky winners managed to walk away with a set of 3M Crystalline Solar Film package each. We followed one of the winners, Kelvin, during the installation process of the solar film on his car, to find out more. The installation of the film on Kelvin's Volkswagen Golf took place at DS Specialty Services, which is one of only two Certified Applicators for 3M solar films in Singapore. Kelvin's car already had another brand of solar film installed previously, so we were interested to find out if there would be any difference after installing the 3M Crystalline Solar Film. Installation process The previous solar film is carefully removed. Special care is taken for the rear windscreen, so as not to damage the heated demister wires. The film is cut into tiny strips, and then gently peeled off. The glass panels are then cleaned with a special neutral soap, to prevent harmful chemicals from damaging the film. The soap also acts as an adhesive remover, to remove the adhesive that was used to install the previous solar film. After cleaning, the films to be installed are then cut to the size and shape of the windscreen and glass panels. The film is placed on the outer surface of the glass panel, then shaped and heated with a heat gun to seal the shape after it has been formed to the size of the windscreen. The film is then carefully placed on the inner surface of the glass panel, and carefully stuck onto the surface with a special, non-harmful adhesive. Cloths are placed throughout the interior to ensure that they are not stained by the chemicals used in installing the film. After installation, the film and glass panels are cleaned again, and checked to ensure that there is no residue or air pockets. Thoughts after installation After the solar film had been installed, Kelvin took us on a short drive to test out the effects of the new 3M Crystalline Solar Film. He noted that the new film is much clearer than his previous film, which makes it safer overall. In terms of heat protection, there was a slight but noticeable difference. It was still too early to tell as the film had not settled in yet after installation, but the cooling effects of the 3M Crystalline Solar Film are expected to be more evident once the film has had time to settle. Kelvin also praised the professionalism of the crew at DS Speciality Services. He commented on their friendliness, and was impressed at their knowledge about the products and service. Benefits of 3M Solar Films Solar films protect the car occupants from the sun's harmful UV rays. For instance, 3M Crystalline Solar Films blocks out 99.99% of UV light, providing a total Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of over 1,000, which is more than 30 times the SPF of a regular sunscreen lotion. This high UV rejection rate gives vehicle occupants significant protection from the dangers of the sun's UV rays which include sunburn, damage to eyes, causes of premature aging and skin cancer. It also minimises distraction from the sun's glare while driving. What is 3M Crystalline Solar Films? If you are looking for the ultimate in technology, superior clarity and performance with a premium look, then 3M Crystalline Solar Film is for you. 3M Crystalline Solar Film features a proprietary, multi-layer optical film (MOF) technology that combines over 200 layers in a film that is thinner than a Post-it
  12. Looks like Sun Ho I think 1st Runner up should have won
  13. I wished that my numbers is the winner! Good luck everyone. Tonight few people will have a super duper huat huat CNY! May the best men win!
  14. Just came back from Genting and personally witnessed a big winner. She was at the jackpot machine hitting away and all of a sudden she was on a bonus round and next she struck over RM 102000. Was besides her and wonder why was it not me. She was stunned for a moment and next moment her freinds came over and all talking loudly and asking her for "balanja". To think of it, the seat was vacant when I started trying my luck and it was just not my day.
  15. Here is my take of the biggest winners of this GE 1) SDP. This party is almost written off in the last election, but they managed to get almost 37% of winning percentage for this election. To me, that's remarkable with very credible candidates this time like Vincent, Tan, Col Ang, James Gomez, and others. It's an amazing comeback. I hope they continue to work on the ground and don't give up. 2) TodayOnline : Considering how strict our meda control are, it's amazing that they could upload every single rally into youtube for the analysis and study by everyone. The men and women behind this are truly the unsung heroes. I have no doubt that they played a big part in this GE is providing people a balance view. 3) Chiam S T : He did not win, but he has won the hearts of many. Looking frial, he still campaigned from rally to rally and walked from block to block. Amazing man who really wants to serve. 4) The people of Spore : You have made your voices heard, an opposition has won a GRC for the first time, and it sent the gov. back for some soul-searching. It's a good result. Not that bad till they can't form a majority, but good enough to reflect what went seriously wrong. 5) And perhaps TPL : Riding on the coattail of SM, she just ride into the Parliament. Nuff said. Who are your winners?

  20. Who will win tonight's World Cup? who are u betting on? it's exciting!
  21. This weekend EPL (Sunday, 21/12/08) will see Liverpool playing away to Arsenal....... Who will eventually emerge the winner ? My prediction is another disappointment draw for Liverpool ..... Arsenal currently having takeover speculation as reported at ESPN. ESPN Soccernet reports: The departure of major shareholder Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith from the company board was announced last night, along with Richard Carr, a director for 27 years. Arsenal are the last remaining member of the Premier League 'big four' to be in British ownership, and the board all signed up to a lockdown agreement meaning the first option on any sale of shares must be given to existing board members until 2012, so as to stave off any potential hostile bid from outside. However, Hill-Wood could offer no guarantees of where Lady Bracewell-Smith's holding may eventually now end up. American sports tycoon Stan Kroenke, who holds around a 12% stake in the Gunners parent company, accepted the offer to become a non-executive director on the Arsenal board in September as ties with his Kroenke Sports Enterprises group were strengthened, and he could be tempted to invest further. However, Uzbekistan metals magnate Alisher Usmanov - who bought into Arsenal when he paid former vice-chairman David Dein around

  23. Honda Civic was voted Winner of the highly competitive family sedan category by Car Buyers' editorial. Below was extracted from Car Buyers' Guide 08/09: The 8th Generation Civic first appeared on our shores in 2006, 3 years down the road, sales for the Civic have literally hit the roof making it the hottest selling make of car in Singapore currently. Peer through the Civic's list of talents and you'll see why the car is so hugely popular. The styling is sleek and futuristic coupled with that two-tiered space age dashboard makes the Civic an instantaneous hit. The Civic is also the benchmark when it comes to interior quality and fittings, well built and lined with materials that belong to car a few classes up, the Civic is still truly a class above the rest. Winning this category three times in a row is a feat in itself and the Civic still gets our vote this time round. Being such an all-rounder, it's hard not to love the Civic. Externally, the Civic's stylish looks reinvents the classic three-box sedan silhouette and retains an air of unqiueness even though Civics can be found at every turn these days. Engine choice alone will probably leave the driver in a daze as there is a Civic literally for nearly every budget. There's the entry level 1.6, a mid-range 1.8 for a little more power and for the top of tehr ange, the 2 litre has the best performance in its class. Those that want to save the earth will also be delighted to know that a hybrid variant is also available with a 1.3L engine backed by an electric motor. All in all, the Civic's highly capable packaging makes it the obvious choice still, be it performance, variety, styling or even comfort, the Civic has gotten it just about right. Regards,
  24. A chinese lady (sounds like Taiwanese) been calling me the past 1 week to congrats me on winning a phone lucky draw. I was told I won the 2nd prize; 45 days tour round the world. I have to fly to HK to commerce the trip, and also told this would be the only cost i have to come up with. However if I choose to cash out, i will "LOSS" about $10k value of the ticket. I would still cash in $48,000 (Singapore dollars). Each time when told to talk more, I told the lady I am away or busy. Yesterday (sunday), she actually told me that, they have a mini fair at East Coast Park (near MacDonalds). And there are signs leading me to their booth.. just have to quote AK3698. Anyway, I was too busy shopping yesterday. This morning.. since I was so free... when she called, I entertained her.. and her calls has not stopped since then... I am supposed to call a law firm in HK to verify myself... so the $48,000 can be successfully transferred to me. WAHAAHAA... I am rich!!! I will soon get $48,000!!! By the way... it's REAL!!! cos they even got website... and just put in AK3698.. and you will see that I did win the 45 days tour round the world! http://www.ap-ta.com/login.asp
