  2. This is the Emotionally Intelligent Way To Handle Stage Fright 4 Minute Read Rather than beating yourself up about being nervous, you need to acknowledge, and even embrace, your jitters. Here’s how:- STEP 1: RECOGNIZE YOUR EMOTIONAL “SET POINT”All of us have what I like to think of as an emotional “set point,” a basic level of stress that we can manage even if it makes us uncomfortable. You might feel excited or stimulated by that level of pressure, but it doesn’t make you so anxious that your performance tanks. This level of stress differs for everybody, but once it’s crossed, crippling anxiety sets in. Maybe talking to your boss or your peers feels a little stressful, but you can still get your message across smoothly. But put you in front of a really daunting audience–your boss’s, your biggest client, or your board of directors, and your the temperature heats up. You zoom past your emotional set point, and all hope is lost. By recognizing where your own emotional set point falls, though, you can know what to expect when you go beyond it. For example, you’re not surprised when you step into a sauna or a steam room, because you were already expecting intense heat before you opened the door. Similarly, instead of being overwhelmed by your feelings, you need to recognize that you’re just temporarily beyond your emotional set point. This is a far better approach than trying to avoid going past it in the first place (that’s hopeless). Your heart rate is your barometer, so simply monitor it mentally, much as you would while running intervals on a treadmill. If your heart rate is high during your next big presentation, notice that, then take a deep breath. Slow down your exhales, and count to four in your head. This will help you get back to your emotional set point. You may still feel a little uncomfortable, but it won’t derail your talk. STEP 2: COMPARTMENTALIZE (REALLY, IT’S OKAY)You may have had a bad speaking experience at some point of your life. For example, one of my clients actually fainted in front of 300 leaders at her company. That’s an extreme example–but you might have your own triggers that spike your anxiety levels through the roof. To get beyond this, try to imagine that you’re putting images of these memories away into mental boxes, not to be touched or opened for a period of time. Worried that repressing bad memories doesn’t exactly sound like the most emotionally intelligent strategy? It is! You aren’t feeling your feelings for good–you’re noting that they’re there, then setting them aside just for the time being. Think of it as strategic compartmentalization. Then, concentrate on what you’re doing instead of what you’re feeling. Think about your breathing, your movement, and most importantly, your ideas. You can even try assigning a color to each of your ideas to help you focus–green for creative, red for emotional, and so on. By putting bad feelings away for the moment, you’re putting yourself in control of the situation so you can be present when you need to be. STEP 3: FOCUS ON THE NEXT IDEA, NOT THE NEXT WORDSpeaking is a fast-action sport. You need to keep talking at 150–200 words per minute. Imagine driving at 150–200 miles per hour. I remember test-driving a Lotus Simulator years ago at the Montreal World’s Fair, and the only way I kept from crashing was by looking further ahead down the road than I was used to. It’s kind of the same thing while speaking, especially when anxiety threatens to kick your emotions into overdrive. The best way to stay in control is to look further ahead than you’re used to in an ordinary conversation, and the way to do that is to focus on your ideas, not your words. The more you focus on your words, the more likely you’ll end up crashing into higher and higher levels of anxiety. By focusing on your ideas, you allow your thoughts to flow, one into the next. Remember: There is no right or wrong way to speak, no single turn of phrase that will save or ruin your message. It’s your ideas that matter most.   3. What's the cause and what can be done for our window? When it's wind down by a bit just enough for air to flow in while driving, it will rattle endlessly. Is it the rubber seal at the side? or just the thin window? The interior door handle, can it be rewrap or anything? or even like sand down and respray?
  4. My 10 year old car has a lot of scratches around the door handle area, probably caused by fingernails. I'm changing car this year so I was wondering how to avoid that again. Nowadays I heard there is a nano-coating treatment that forms a protective layer around the paint. Is that enough to protect against these kind of scratches, or still need to install the transparent laminate film?

We waited until 7am and when no one updated us on his condition, we sought permission to see him. When we did, his right eye had become swollen. We were told that the staff would be stitching up his forehead wound to stop the bleeding, and admission would be done when a bed became available. At around 11.50am, he was admitted. Up to then, nothing had been done for him except the placement of a drip and stitching of his forehead wound. The nurses told us that they had arranged a CT scan for him the next day, as Oct 26 was a public holiday and the relevant staff were not working. The next day, after the scan was done, the neurologists informed us there were multiple injuries to my father-in-law's skull, and bleeding within. We were told that he would be in a coma within 24 hours. Due to his age and sickness, no surgery was suggested. My father-in-law died on Oct 29. There is much room for improvement in how patients are handled. Is it the norm for CT scan departments to be closed on public holidays? Could my father-in-law's death been prevented if the scan had been done on the same day, and corrective action taken to stop the bleeding? Adeline Lim (Madam)

  11. Hi guys, just to check with you. Is there anything on the car accessories market that protects the car door handle..? The reason is because my ride got hit by a neighboring car door when they open their door. As much as I tried to keep in the center of the parking lot and a distance from the neighboring cars, but still got hit. Really heart ached whenever I see it. I have also tried as much and as far as I can, when opening my own car door and prevent from hiting my neighboring car, but such things still happens to me... As such, I need to send in my car for a respray on the door handle. But I still would like to know if there are such accessories available on the market for protecting the car door handle from knocks from neighboring cars. Thanks...

  14. My door handle and door guard this morning gonna brush against the pipe when reversing. Must be lack of sleep nowadays. Not both the handle and door guard on the left side of car quite badly bruised with deep scratches. Used touch up paint but find it still quite ugly. Any idea if there are workshop that is willing to do the patch work(smoothen the handle and guard) and respray? Of cos must be reasonable price lah. These few days Si buai suay leh. 2 days ago gonna pebble hit windscreen. Before i can mend the crack now hit with this. 4D also not so chun. Anyone got lobang on the respray, please recommend. Woman appears in High Court with non-stop speech Singapore: A woman fighting a 6-year-old case against the Government for wrongful dismissal, caused drama in the High Court when she launched into a speech and continually disobeyed the judge to stop. Former civil servant, Linda Lai Swee Lin, is hoping to get her old job back in the Land Office. Appearing in court Thursday, she read out a prepared one-page statement, ignoring a clearly-irritated Justice Lai Siu Chiu who warned her several times to stop. The judge also warned of contempt of court charges to Lai who continued reading even as other witnesses took their oaths in the witness stand. Police officers had to be called in to remind the woman to remain silent. She eventually did, but not for long. The hearing continues on Friday. Perhaps her dismissal by Land Office is due to her talkativeness at work which impact staff's productivity

Not to sound uncaring but can share what would be the safe/appropriate way to handle the following situations given that you are driving and alone in the car:- (1) You saw a fellow driver inside their car, with boot lid up, no breakdown signage displayed. Visibility low and in the middle of deserted road/expressway. (2) You saw a fellow driver slumped over steering wheel, car in the middle of a road during daytime. (3) You encounter a drunk driver behind the wheels in the wee hours of the morning.
  17. I work in a large organisation. There is this department that I seldom need to contact much but when there is a need to I always cannot get anyone listed on the extension list. Also, writing emails to them 95% won't reply or will wait long long then reply. Sometimes I managed to get them on their extension and the party will hush hush want to end the converstaton... every reply is like ..we see...not free... will check ...these kind. have you encounter ppl like this in your company?   18. Hi guys new bie to cars, get my kia forte few months back... Recently found a quite scary thing about the car's front doors: the car will auto lock all doors once speed above 20km/h sth, but recently my wife accidently pulled the front passenger's door handle, and the door open directly, when the car is at around 50km/h!! means it can override the lock , tried driver side it's same also can open directly, but rear doors can not and have to push the lock bottom to unlock first, someone said it's safety feather cos in case of acciddent can open door faster, i doubt so, imaging u r on highway 90km/h suddently the door accidently open, i dont think its safe.... Had confirmed all kia forte had this "feather", so before i send my car to dealer for enqurey, just wanna check with bros here with other brands of cars, is it the same for other cars that front door can open directly without unlock it first? Thx

What causes stress Stress is not just something you experience for a while, and then goes away. Your body actually reacts to stress, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Over time, these reactions have an impact on your health. First, let's look at what causes stress. In today's fast-paced, highly-competitive world, we stress ourselves out with all sorts of worries. Sometimes stress is thrust upon us, for example, becoming unexpectedly ill, or we bring it upon ourselves, for example, trying to do too much at work. Even exciting things happening in our lives can produce stress as well - getting a promotion or having a baby is great, but you may experience changes, uncertainties, and anxieties that cause stress. Women are particularly susceptible to stress caused by hormonal changes, during puberty, the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and menopause - hormone levels fluctuate consistently and cause stress. Bad, bad stress Is there such a thing as good stress? Well, considering that stress is a natural reaction by humans, there has to be a reason for it. Stress can be positive, keeping us alert, motivated, and ready to avoid danger. Thanks to the body's "fight or flight" response, you will experience a rush of adrenaline in an emergency situation that prepares you to run or defend yourself. Some people perform best under stress, such as musicians, athletes, or even politicians! Stress becomes bad when your body has to continuously respond to it. This will cause wear and tear on the body - both physical and emotional - and one day, you will discover that you are functioning at far lower levels than you used to. Prolonged stress, leading to distress, can disturb the body's internal balance or equilibrium, leading to physical symptoms such as headache, an upset stomach, elevated blood pressure, chest pain, sexual dysfunction, and problems sleeping. If you're overly stressed, you may also be plagued by ulcers, lower abdominal cramps, colitis, and irritable bowel syndrome. You may find yourself falling sick with colds and common infections more often due to a weaker immune system. Or, an attack of the rashes may come on! Women suffer from unique problems related to stress - in extreme cases, it can lead to absence of menstruation or abnormal bleeding. Hormonal imbalances caused by stress may exacerbate the symptoms of fibroid tumours and endometriosis, and make it more difficult for couples to conceive a baby. Some women experience changes in their sexuality and encounter various sexual dysfunctions such as loss of desire and vaginal dryness as a result of stress. Distress can also cause emotional problems, such as depression, panic attacks, or other forms of anxiety and worry. Stress becomes part of a vicious circle when people engage in the compulsive use of substances or behaviours to try to relieve their stress, such as turning to food, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, gambling, sex, shopping, and the Internet. Rather than relieving the stress and returning the body to a relaxed state, these substances and compulsive behaviours tend to keep the body in a stressed state and cause more problems. Getting stressed when you're already ill Research suggests that stress can also worsen or exacerbate certain symptoms or illnesses. Not everyone responds in the same way to a certain illness, and the addition of mental stress on top of that individual response certainly affects it. For instance, certain diseases such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, peptic ulcer disease, or cardiac disease can worsen with mental stress. It is important for women who already have some form of heart disease, such as high blood pressure, heart palpitations or high cholesterol, to be careful, because heart disease is one of the top killers of women. How can you tell when you're stressed? Generally, an increased pulse rate is a good indication that your adrenaline has gone up, but you can be stressed while having a normal pulse rate. Other giveaways are constant aches and pains, palpitations, anxiety, chronic fatigue, crying, over- or under-eating, frequent infections, and a decrease in your sexual desire. A good indication is if you feel like you're "out of it" and you lose interest in most things. You may find yourself grinding your teeth or clenching your jaw all the time, suffer from indigestion, muscle tension, trembling or shaking, and even inexplicable diarrhoea. If you experience all this or more, you don't need anyone to tell you that you really need to relax. If you don't make an effort to cut out the stress from your life, it could cause serious problems to your health and well-being. Start with your state of mind - be positive about things in life and accept that there are events that you cannot control. Don't let anger, frustration, or fear crowd your mind. Try to look for constructive solutions instead. Lifestyle choices can help your body fight stress. Exercise regularly so that your body is fit. Eat healthy, well-balanced meals to keep your energy levels up and your immune system strong. Get enough rest and sleep - this makes a huge difference in helping you recover from stress. Finally, make choices in life that are right for you. Know when to say "no" to requests that will cause excessive stress, and manage your time effectively to handle what you have on your plate. Know when to ask for help, either from friends, family, colleagues, bosses, or even health professionals such as your doctor or psychologist.
