  1. HR manager in Hyflux subsidiary charged with corruption source: https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/hr-manager-in-hyflux-subsidiary-charged-with-corruption?xtor=CS3-18&utm_source=STiPhone&utm_medium=share&utm_term=2020-06-03 14%3A06%3A20 SINGAPORE - The human resource manager of a Hyflux subsidiary was charged with corruption on Wednesday (June 3). Khoo Chen Ee, 36, a manager in Hydrochem (S), is accused of receiving or agreeing to receive about $7,000 in "rewards" on three occasions between August and December 2018 from the director of Leeds HR Solution, Mr Elumalai Selvakumar. Hydrochem is the predecessor of Hyflux. It was set up by Hyflux founder Olivia Lum in 1989 and became a wholly-owned subsidiary when Hyflux was incorporated in 2000 ahead of its public listing. The beleaguered water treatment firm is currently under criminal investigation for suspected false and misleading statements, as well as non-compliance with accounting standards. Khoo, a permanent resident, said in court on Wednesday that he intends to plead guilty. He will be back in court on June 26. The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) did not say whether Mr Elumalai is facing any corruption charge, but it warned that businesses should have a level playing field to advance their interests and engage in honest competition. "Individuals who resort to corrupt means to advance business interests will have to face the full consequences of the law," it said in a statement. Those convicted of a corruption offence can be fined up to $100,000 or sentenced to jail of up to five years or both.
  2. This thread is for Soccer Manager, the totally pointless game we love to hate. Currently we are mass orgy-ing in World Championship 6223 - Game world ID 28826World Championship 9191 - Game world ID 50548MCF Premier League - Game World ID 60665 (by application only) Register yourself and pit yourself against some of the brightest brains in the world of footy management. Square up against the legendary White One (not so legendary lately), the irrepressible Little Prince (press harder babe!) or the mercurial Lclub (mercurial = blardy inconsistant). Tear your hair out by drawing with the most tedious bus driver or lose all your dignity being trashed by a pussy. Find out that Takumi can beat you in driving and managing and Tarzan yells command at his players while swinging from stand to stand. We will eat you for breakfast, lunch and dinner. 3 times a day.
  3. hi, i'm thinking of register myself for the upcoming fire safety manager (FSM), my objective is to have a skill and earn part time income if possible. may i ask if anyone can share with me on the prospective of a FSM. or i should just go for other better courses such as safety officer? i roughly google and seems not much good on being a FSM. thank you
  4. Chinese actress Ai Ru, who shot to fame after being crowned the winner of the 7th Miss Tourism Competition in 2009, and subsequently starred in the hit TV series Naked Wedding Age in 2011, surprised football fans when she was named as the president of Sichuan Lidashi Football Club. Now Ai has become the spokesperson and ambassador of the football club, according to an article in Asian Town. Lots of football insiders were very surprised and confused upon learning that an actress, who seemingly has little connection to sport, has become the youngest top leader of a Chinese football club. Despite being newly established, the football team has excellent coaches and a professional management team, and their results of warm-up matches have so far been satisfactory. WHY S-League dont have this kind of Manager? Sure player motivation up 200%

  9. To each his or her own. Local context die die must chiong up the corporate ladder in order to be successful meh? On a side note she though not that pretty but quite sweet leh... BTW married to a property agent liao hor... From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...ds_manager.html Posted on 23 Oct 2012 Top student from NUS chooses to be a McDonald's manager Source: The New Paper Photos: The Straits Times, The New Paper Ms Christina Ong made the Dean's List while studying at the National University of Singapore, an accolade reserved for top students. But instead of slipping on high heels and conquering the corporate world she chose to serve burgers and sundaes at McDonald's. Before even graduating from her course in project and facilities management, she had two offers from quantity surveying firms. She is now a manager at the fast food giant. While the 27-year-old beams with pride when talking about her job, many people think otherwise, she says candidly. "It's not something that people always think graduates should do. "Some think it's a job people do in their spare time as a short stint in their teens, and do not see it as a viable career option," she adds. Her career choice is an unconventional path among her peers, she muses. Most of her friends work in offices, not fast food joints. Her decision to join McDonald's full-time in March last year also raised eyebrows at home. Her NTUC cashier mother and coffee-shop assistant father felt that she could get better pay elsewhere. The fact that she had to work shifts was also a sore point. Fresh graduates like Ms Ong earn between $2,000 and $2,500 a month, says a McDonald's spokesman. Some of her relatives also asked her point-blank why she would want to work at a fast food joint, doing such menial tasks as mopping up greasy floors and taking orders. But she waves away the dismissive talk, showing perhaps the determined streak that allowed her to graduate as the top student of her cohort at Singapore Polytechnic. "At McDonald's, we lead by example, so I do everything from the basic to the advanced, like scheduling the work timetables of the crew and interviewing new hires." And it's clear that Ms Ong has great affection for her job and the company, which she started working for as a part-timer at 16. Every weekend, she assembled Happy Meals and dished out chilli packets for eight hours a day from 7am to 3pm, before going out with her friends. Through her schooling days at the Institute of Technical Education (where she won the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship), polytechnic and university, she worked two days a week at McDonald's. During the school holidays, she worked full-time. "I really enjoy the family-like environment and people there. It's a young, vibrant environment and it doesn't feel like I'm working at all. "I even worked on my birthday," she says with a big grin. That she bumps into friends who visit the outlet does not make her feel embarrassed or awkward, Ms Ong insists. Asked if their opinions bother her, she replies without skipping a beat: "If they don't buy it (my decision to work at McDonald's), I don't try too hard to convince them. I enjoy it. If you're always so concerned about what people think, your life will be very difficult." Ms Ong's parents are gradually coming round to her career choice. The job has taken her overseas - to the US city of Orlando for an international convention organised by the company, and to the Philippines for a restaurant leadership programme. Just two weeks ago, she bagged the Super Star Award - the highest service honour - at the Excellent Service Awards for the food and beverage industry. That certainly helped, she says with a smile. Although there are sacrifices she has to make for the job, she makes it clear that she finds them minor inconveniences. "I really don't like night shifts, which start at 10.30pm and end at 7.30am, or run from 5.30pm to 2.30am," Ms Ong says. Working over weekends is also something she does on a regular basis. She and her husband, a property agent, have learnt to work around it. "We try to have dinners together on weekday nights," she says. The bubbly and spirited individual adds that she sees herself working at McDonald's at least for the next five years. "One day, I may want to open a business of my own, a cafe perhaps?" she says.

  11. JobsCentral Survey: Recent Graduates Expect Higher Salary and Fast Promotions 'By Juliet Soh 64% of recent graduates expect at least $3000 monthly salary in their first job, according to an annual survey by JobsCentral, Singapore's most popular job portal for university students and graduates. In 2011, the same survey reports only 55% of respondents demanding more than $3000 per month for their first job. Fresh graduates expect first promotion within first two years of work Three out of four (75.5%) of those who were surveyed expressed that they expect their first promotion to occur within the first two years of their career. 22.6% believe that they may be promoted by the first year of work, while 52.9% indicated that they expect to be promoted in their second year.' http://sg.finance.yahoo.com/news/jobscentr...4--finance.html From the above which sg company can retain staff? We would need an army of FTs to be junior staff to this batch of graduates.
  12. I have said before that Kenny might be sacked end of season when top 4th finish was out of grasp. Sadly, it came true. FSG must have the balls of steel to sack a legend in the eyes of all Liverpool fans worldwide. However, it is also such firm decision that gives me the assurance that the owners do mean business. Credit to King Kenny, though utterly disappointed, he carried himself like a true legend after the sacking. He asked fans not to jump to any conclusion as the owners must have their reasons for doing what they did. He urged the board and fans to support the new guy like how they had supported him. That leads to the next question. Who is the new guy? Whoever now can tell you for sure who he is going to be, is pure bullocks. Even FSG do not know. They have set forth their criteria and those who met it, will be invited for an interview. From what I have gathered, 2 candidates have already been invited. FSG are looking for one who will be able to take on the project long term, probably 5 years or more. They want the person to have necessary credential, meaning to have won major trophies in his management career. They want someone who has the passion, the hunger and the determination to carry out their plan - to bring glory back to Liverpool. Based on the above, only 3 persons whom I think meet the criteria and willing to take on the job come to mind - Andrea Villas-Boas, Jurgen Klopp and Rafa Benitez. Let's hope I will not be too far off on this one. Each one of them is a worthy replacement in my opinion. Lastly, I shall leave you with the wishes from Suarez, which I believe echoed many Liverpool fans and those associated with the club: "KENNY thank you very much for all your help and things I learned from you during 1 year and a half! A big hug and good luck!!"

Thinking of making a career switch to a Compliance Managerial position in the financial industry but have no experience in the financial industry. Hence I reckon it will not be easy for me since i do not have qualifying experience and educational background. Do you know of any external courses (maybe duration 1-yr which allows me to attend courses in weekends; as weekdays need to work OT late) that i can take to obtain the relevant educational requirements? And would anyone know what's the typical salary of a Compliance Manager in the financial industry? thanks for the advice in advance

  21. sometimes i cannot decide whether to admire or be disgusted by the mitigation pleas by the defense lawyers. ---- Ex-bank manager jailed 7 years for cheating, money laundering By Alvina Soh | Posted: 29 June 2011 1806 hrs SINGAPORE : A former OCBC relationship manager was jailed seven years on Wednesday for cheating and money laundering. 32-year-old Tan Wei Chong, who had been with the bank since 2003, committed the offences between November 2007 and August 2010. The total amount Tan took from his clients was about S$2.3 million. He was found guilty of 11 counts of cheating the bank, and four charges of transferring the money to various accounts, including those of his family members. He faced 46 charges in total, with 31 taken into consideration. Investigations revealed that Tan took funds belonging to his clients through the use of debit authorisation forms, application forms for cashier's orders, and cash withdrawal forms. He had his clients sign on blank forms or forged their signatures, then telling them it was for investment purposes. Deputy Public Prosecutor Teo Guan Siew said in his report that Tan did not use his own bank account to receive the monies he had taken from his clients. He transferred most of it to a joint account maintained by four people, including Tan's brother-in-law. Some of the monies were also transferred to several accounts, including those of his family members, to reduce suspicion. In mitigation, defence counsel Derek Kang, said Tan was a diligent worker but habitually gambled online through online casinos and had also lost money from trading shares. He added that Tan became desperate from gambling and resorted to siphoning away his clients' money. Mr Kang also noted that Tan did not commit the offences as part of a syndicate, and he did not target vulnerable victims like the elderly. Tan, who had his services terminated on 8 September 2010 remained emotionless as he was sentenced. - CNA /ls
