  2. Hi Guys! Have searched around car forums but haven't come across anyone who encountered the following experience yet...and would appreciate if anyone can share their thoughts... A common practice for ADs is to offer 3months/6bids non-guarantee COE packages when buying new car. I believe this means (as all SE will tell buyers) deposit/booking fee will be returned if AD fails to secure COE within 3months/6bids. Main culprits for failed bids are usually fluctuating COE prices or low/unrealistic COE rebate level offered (e.g. Toyota's recent 35K rebate for Cat A savers package). So...what happens after 6 failed bids if buyer doesn't give in to AD's mind games (e.g. top up more $ to secure COE)? Has anyone (or your friends) ever gotten their car's deposit/booking fee returned by AD before?
  3. Anyone tried Uber before?? Is it more expensive than taking taxi? or is there anyone interested to sign up and drive for them? lol Published on Mar 25, 2014 Looks like a car, feels like a taxi TECHNOLOGY company Uber has launched a private car service rivalling taxis in terms of pricing and fleet, but the authorities do not plan to regulate it for now. Two weeks ago, the company - known for its mobile app which allows users to book high-end private limousines - launched a service called UberX. UberX users can now book mid-range cars such as Mitsubishi Lancers and Toyota Corollas using the service. These cars are driven by people who sign up with UberX to be drivers using their own cars, or rental vehicles. They do not need to possess taxi driver licences to do so. This service follows the model rolled out in several cities globally, including New York, Los Angeles and London. UberX's pricing in Singapore is similar to what local taxi companies charge. UberX charges $3.50 as a base fare and a per-kilometre charge that works out to be about 28 cents per 400m. This is similar to what ComfortDelGro's Hyundai Sonata and Hyundai i-40 taxis charge - $3.20 and $3.70, respectively, for the first kilometre or less. SMRT charges $3.60 and $3.80 for its Chevrolet Epica and Toyota Prius, respectively. Both taxi companies charge 22 cents for every 400m thereafter or less, up to 10km, and 22 cents for every 350m after that. The introduction of UberX in Singapore comes as the taxi industry faces increased regulation and higher service standards. But despite UberX's similarity to taxis, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will not be regulating it for now. In response to MyPaper queries, an LTA spokesman said that Uber is not a taxi company but rather a "technology company providing a matching service leveraging on technology". "These are private-hire cars. Such cars, unlike taxis, do not ply for hire on any road. Neither do such cars take in passengers at taxi stands/stops," the spokesman said. Mr Mike Brown, regional general manager for Uber in Southeast Asia, said the company is "fully compliant with the law in Singapore". He said that UberX is "priced at a premium to a taxi and UberX does not accept street hails like a taxi". To ensure passenger safety, the company conducts criminal background checks and inspects the driving licences of all drivers, before they can join. UberX hires only Singapore citizens and permanent residents. All cars must be commercially registered and have commercial auto insurance. Those who do not own cars rent vehicles through Uber. A MyPaper check with seven UberX drivers found they were a mix of former lorry drivers and former taxi drivers. One said he pays about $1,600 for the monthly vehicle rental, which works out to around $50 a day - half of what taxi drivers pay for their daily rental. Uber takes 20 per cent of every UberX fare. But drivers said they still find it a good deal. With the lower rental, "it's better than driving a taxi because we can potentially earn more money with the same amount of work", said one driver, who declined to be named. http://mypaper.sg/top-stories/looks-car-feels-taxi-20140325?utm_content=buffer71233&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer
  4. Understand that I need to pay a booking and service fee if I pay by credit card. What if I opt for payment over at 7 eleven? Can I pay by credit card as well or do I need to pay cash? Pls advise. Thanks!
  5. Asking a feedback with you guys, Have you encounter when u booked online hotels through either agoda.com / booking.com / latestays.com Once you made the payment, reached the hotel, check-in process they asked for deposit of certain amount which is refundable when u check out. Is this their policy?? I encountered this, i felt disgusted. Since i have paid fully for hotel which wants me to pay full through creditcard, yet when checking-in they still ask for deposit. I only encounter this in malaysia selected hotels. Whereby those online booking website doesnt stated the requirement clearly, too smoky. Especially booking.com prices stated all "Exclude Taxes" Some websites "Included Taxes" Any tips to handle this kind of issues? Or better suggestion of online hotel booking websites. Especially Malaysia, as i go there frequently.
  6. from Nov 1..... haha good news or bad news ? More jobs created to summon us ! Great , just what we need , TP turns "ANGEL" Wed, Sep 15, 2010 Soon, you will no longer see a Traffic Police (TP) officer booking vehicles for illegal parking offences. From Nov 1, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be taking over five functions from the TP the duty of enforcement against illegal parking offences. The government statutory board will be empowered to close roads or lane for repair, alongside issuing permits for vehicle loads and the use of excluded vehicles such as mixers, on expressways. LTA will also be gazetting speed limits on roads. The functions above were identified as in line with LTA's role to manage road usage, said Mr Colin Lin, LTA?s acting group director for vehicle and transit licensing. The Commander of Traffic Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Cheang Keng Keong, said the transfer of duties will allow them to better focus on their core functions such as enforcement against unsafe driving behaviour. Upon taking over the enforcement of illegal parking, LTA will deploy traffic wardens, auxiliary police officers and its own uniformed enforcement officers to carry out the function. LTA's enforcement procedures will be similar to those of the TP. There will be no change to the penalties for illegal parking offences. Members of the public can call LTA's hotline 1800-CALL LTA (2255 582) on illegal parking matters from Nov 1. TP will continue their enforcement action against speeding offences. Issuing permits for carrying of loads on vehicles LTA will take over the issuing of permits for over sized vehicles to travel on the roads. Vehicle owners or drivers can make use of LTA's on-line portal, LTA.PROMPT, to submit their applications. The details of the application process will be made available to the relevant stakeholders closer to the date of takeover. More details on any changes in procedures affecting members of the public will be available on www.onemotoring.com.sg and https://prompt.lta.gov.sg nearer to 1 November 2010. Members of the public may also call the LTA hotline at 1800-CALL LTA (2255 582) for more information.

  11. According to BT, more than 30 units booking for Ferrari F12 Berlinetta over the weekend. This definitely reflect so many rich people in SIN today. I am not sure if these are collection or to be driven? Is it easier for corperate tax rebate in SIN??? Probably I understand SIN is one of the most easiest country to do business compare to many.

    Booking of Taxis

Visit My Website Read this on Stomp : STOMPer Ang says she was late because a taxi she had booked took another passenger instead. This was despite the fact she had reached the pick-up location before receiving the call telling her the cab had arrived. The upset STOMPer wrote: "At 8am this morning I called Comfort to book a cab and got a confirmation. "When I went to my pick-up location prior to the confirmation call that my taxi had arrived, I saw my cab leaving with a passenger. It was already too far for me to run after it. "I then waited another 20 minutes and saw a cab alight a passenger. While waiting for the passenger to get off, standing right in front of the cab, the taxi changed from 'hired' to 'on call' immediately. "Another 15 minutes later the same thing happened, 'hired' to 'on call'! "Should you put a passenger right in front of you as a priority rather than accept a call request just to get the booking fee? "This was a very bad experience with comfort cab which made me late for 30 minutes."
  13. I think this is bulls**t. Pple can't get a taxi that's why have to book. With all the cabbies doing stunts, one cannot get a taxi just by flagging along the road side anymore. http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_625208.html. Jan 17, 2011 More book taxis in stronger economy By Chong Zi Liang THE number of passengers choosing to book a taxi instead of flag one down soared last year compared to previous years. The two taxi operators with the largest fleet in Singapore both reported a steep spike in the number of bookings they handled last year. Leading the pack was transport operator ComfortDelGro, with 24 million taxi bookings last year, a 37 per cent jump from 17.5 million bookings in 2009. It is a record high for the company which first launched the service in 1996. ComfortDelGro has more than 15,000 taxis. TransCab, the taxi operator with the second-largest fleet at about 3,800 taxis, managed only 300,385 bookings last year.

  18. Dear all, I'm staying in a semi-d with a 2-way lane in front of my house. The single lane on the opposite side facing my house has double yellow lines whereas the single lane on my side has no lines, hence we residents are allowed to park on my side of the lane. Recently however I noticed my new neighbour who is staying on the opposite side who actually used his "888" brand dustbins to reserve the lot and many have since followed. Is this legal? I have taken pictures of these dustbins sitting prominently on the roads and who shall I make a formal complain to if it is not? Has anyone in this forum who have a similar experience before who can advise? Thanks in advance!

Seems to me the domestic flight operators like Continental, Delta, JetBlue... etc, do not accept some international credit card, including Singapore. Anyone has tried and able to go around this payment? Anyone with experience with other options? Thank you very much.
