  1. This kind of parent... really?!?! https://mothership.sg/2018/12/swimming-mother-single/ There are instances where you really got to wonder to what extent someone owes you something. The answer is of course, nothing really, but it’s nice if they help out. Here is the antithesis to that statement. A Singapore-based Facebook user going by the name Matchy Matchy uploaded a lengthy screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation. –– ADVERTISEMENT –– It’s a bit small so we’ve written the transcript of the exchange for you later in the article. Matchy’s post has been shared over 3,000 times. The entire exchange was originally uploaded on Reddit by Reddit user u/pretent_its_witty, who claims to be a swimming instructor from Southern India. The original post on the subreddit, Choosing Beggars, has garnered 100,000 upvotes. The conversation captured in the WhatsApp screenshot posted took place purportedly between a swimming instructor (not a professional one mind you, just someone who does it for free on days that she is swimming as well) and an aunty, who as you will see later, claims to be a single mother, and seems strangely insistent that her son gets to swim “today”. Now take note, this person was apparently volunteering to teach kids swimming for free. Here’s the transcript Auntie (A): Hello, you are the lady who teaches swimming right? I got your number from Sangeetha, can you teach my son also? Swimming instructor (SI): yes sure A: she said she offered to pay but it’s free. Is that true? I can’t pay. I am single mom. (time 10.41am) A: Hello? (10.57am) Please reply (11.05am) ?? (11.20am) Hello? Ter? (11.20am) SI: Hey. Yes they are free. I am in office. I won’t be able to respond right away. A: Wow. That’s rude. I want to know what time today should I bring my son to the pool. SI: I am sorry but today I already informed everyone that I wanted to swim alone today. I will message you the next time I am teaching Probably after 3 days. I usually teach the kids from 3-5 pm. A: Can you come at 1 today and teach him? 1-3 is more warm than 3-5, I know you have flexible timing (12.01) A: Can you reply faster? (12.05) SI: I can’t teach at 1 because of work. It is already past 12. And today, I really feel stressed and I need to blow off some steam. I don’t want to teach today I already told everyone that. From next time, I will inform you also. A: That’s not fair. I already told him that he can go swimming today . Give me one good reason to tell him. Else he is gonna cry. SI: 1. I am not teaching today. 2. AI already cancelled. I can’t un-cancel with everyone this late. A: That’s even better. You can teach him alone. Those brats got free classes for a month. You need to make up for that with my son. SI: What? I can’t teach just for your son. A: Why not? He has anxiety issues. You have to teach him alone. SI: I am not a certified trainer. I don’t want to be responsible for the safety of a kid with anxiety in a pool with depth twice his size. I think you should get someone else. A: When I say anxiety, I’ll don’t mean like that. He just doesn’t like other kids. Just teach him exclusively for one month. After that, you can put him with everyone. They got more classes than him. It is not fair. So you start teaching him from tomorrow at 1. It is better to be out of the pool by 3 That way no one gets sick. Also, he doesn’t have a goggle. Bring him a extra pair tomorrow or let him use yours until I buy one. SI: I can’t swim daily. If I go swimming today. It will be at least 2 days before I swim again. And I am not gonna teach anyone exclusively. A: Wow You are such a selfish b*tch. He is just a kid. Don’t you have any heart. I am a single mom. And I already told him. So… Tomorrow at 1? I can see that you have seen my messages. I will throw him in the pool tomorrow at 1. If something happens to him, you are responsible. Whatever, you are probably a lousy teacher. You are such a nasty horrible person. My son doesn’t this. I don’t know what I did to deserve this. Why is everyone so selfish and unhelpful these days. You have flexible timings, you work less hours than me, You earn more than me Those bi*ches are rich enough they can afford to get a swimming instructor but no. They want only free stuff that my son needs. You are so privileged that you don’t need money you f*king refuse money that people are ready to pay. They are ready to give money and you don’t need money. Do you know how much I need that money? I am a single mom, you should get the money from them and give it to me. You are privileged. You should give it to me. I need it more than you. If you won’t teach my son alone you should at least give money to me. Reply me, I can see that you read the message bi*ch

  5. By Wong Siew Ying | Posted: 24 April 2012 CNA SINGAPORE: Leasing demand for residential properties in Singapore remained robust in the first two months of this year as transactions hovered above 3,000 each month, according to Savills Research. Its data showed that there were 3,446 leasing transactions in February 2012, down 5 percent on-month. But Savills said February's transactions were still higher than the 2,767 transactions recorded a year ago. Based on deals closed by Savills, the average rent for studio apartments and one-bedroom units was S$6.21 per square foot per month in Q1 2012. Savills said selected small-format units were seen fetching attractive rents, particularly for the centrally-located properties. These included a 600-square-foot unit at The Suites at Central along Devonshire Road, which was rented for S$5,000 per month. It was followed by two 592-square-foot units at Martin Place Residences along Martin Road, which were let at S$4,200 per month. By square footage, the highest rent was for a 458-square-foot studio apartment at Iluminaire on Devonshire which was rented at S$8.73 per square foot per month. Savills said rents were equally attractive among the smallest units. Three 334-square-foot units at Prestige Heights along Balestier Road were let for between S$2,200 and S$2,450 per month or between S$6.40 and S$7.34 per square foot per month. Based on data released by the Urban Redevelopment Authority, island-wide median rents of all non-landed properties, excluding executive condominiums, continued to rise to S$3.53 per square foot per month in February, increasing 1 percent on-month and 8 percent on-year. Savills said the leasing transaction value for the first two months has reached S$35 million, 15 percent higher than the previous year. The average monthly rent of high-end non-landed residential properties tracked by Savills was S$5.17 per square foot per month in Q1 2012, dipping 2 percent on-quarter. On a year-on-year basis, prime rents fell 5 percent from S$5.45 per square foot per month in Q1 2011. Savills added that with a continual relocation of expatriates from troubled economies in the West, leasing demand continues to strengthen in Singapore, putting greater upward pressure on rents. - CNA/al

  9. ST Forum Jul 13, 2011 Rental hoax or exceptional demand? I AM a 27-year-old professional from India working in Singapore, and have been looking to rent a three-bedroom Housing Board unit with two friends in the centre of town. In the past two weeks, I have scanned the classifieds online and in the newspapers but to no avail. Most of the advertisements on property websites are fake and many of the units listed online do not exist for rent. When I call an agent about a property, he is more interested in getting my profile than talking about the listing. When I ask for a specific listing, I am inevitably told the unit has been taken. Such units are either non-existent or were rented out on the day they were listed, which is unlikely for every unit. If they had been taken up, isn't it the responsibility of the agents to remove the listings from the website? And if the units are fake, then it is an unethical way of doing business and fishing for clients. Rishu Choudhary

  11. [extract] Aston Martin will reduce the production volume of the Rapide saloon in order to match supply with a decreased demand. Production will be cut to only 1,250 cars a year or 24 cars per week, which is slightly over half of the 2,000 cars initially planned in 2007/08. Several sources imply that volume could even be dropped to 10 per week but the automaker is insistent that it won
  12. I was thinking how to profit from the new rule. Discussion with my friends and colleagues. Fact: It seems that gov is restricting people from owning two or more properties from Monday onwards. Also limiting HDB from being rented out easily (HDB must stay 5 years, cannot rent out etc etc). So there will be generally be a reduced rental units on the market come 2011 as people are not easily allowed to buy extra units. Fact: The problem is that RENTAL from FT/PR/new citizens are supporting the rental market for the past 5-7 years. If there were no rental support from this group, I cannot believe how the hell speculators are able to rent out their extra units to earn rental incomes for the past years. So how can this rental demand going to disappear from now onwards? I mean there WILL still be incoming FT/PR/new citizens yearly right? If these group of people are NOT able to find available HDB/Condo rooms to rent, where will they go to? So if suddenly the 'poor' are prevented from owning 2 or more extra properties, then I forsee there will be a lack of spare HDB/CONDOs for rental come 2011 onwards.....HOW? I think rental rates will shoot up the roof when available rental units are cut due to lesser people owning 2 or more properties. It will be a vivcious cycle, as it will then become worthwhile to once again for speculator to risk to buy additional properties to earn the higher rental income. So looking at the impending reducation of HDB/CONDO units for rental purpose. So I have come to the conclusion that I will ask my father mother myself to divorce and separetely each buy additonal HDB. And rent it out to FT/PR in 2011. HUAT AH.
  13. Hong Kong workers demand minimum wage law Posted: 14 July 2010 1740 hrs Photos 1 of 1 Protestors demanding a minimum wage demonstrate outside the Legislative Council in Hong Kong HONG KONG : Hundreds of workers in Hong Kong called for a minimum wage law Wednesday as lawmakers debated the controversial issue which has long divided the city's business sector and grassroots labour groups. The protesters, many of whom are paid as little as two or three US dollars an hour, said Hong Kong's policymakers and business sector have sacrificed them in the name of competitiveness and preserving the city's free economy. "We are workers! We are not slaves!" a group of Filipino and Indonesian domestic workers chanted outside Hong Kong's legislature building as lawmakers began the debate on the minimum wage bill. "Ironically, Hong Kong is now discussing the road to democracy. But how can there be democracy if workers' interests continue to be attacked by the big businesses?" said Eni Lestari, of the Asian Migrants' Coordinating Body. Labour rights groups have pushed for the minimum wage to be fixed at 33 Hong Kong dollars (4.2 US dollars) an hour, saying anything less would not cover basic expenses with living costs having risen sharply in recent months. But the proposal faced strong opposition from some of Hong Kong's largest employers. Michael Chan, chairman of giant fast-food chain Cafe de Coral -- who was ranked by Forbes magazine as the 35th richest man in Hong Kong in 2009 -- has said his group might issue a profit warning if the proposed hourly rate became law. Chan's comments have intensified anger among the unions, which have demanded that he quit the Provisional Minimum Wage Commission, a government-appointed body tasked to set the minimum wage once the bill is passed. Peter Tsoi, a security guard who works more than 12 hours a day, said he had to apply for welfare because he was only paid three US dollars an hour. "All of my salary is spent on transportation and food," Tsoi told AFP. "It is easy to understand why Hong Kong has one of the world's widest income gaps between the rich and the poor -- the tycoons will only get richer because they are making us work harder and for longer hours while our wages remain unchanged." A survey released this week showed that supermarket giants Park'n Shop and Wellcome, as well convenience stores Circle K and 7-Eleven, paid their workers an average rate of less than three US dollars an hour. - AFP/vm
  14. Depends on how long the 'cannot buy' petrol ban stays. I think it might deter some boderline case to hold off buying car for the next few weeks. So another factor to help lower car demand in Singapore perhaps. How much will they charge for unsubsidised fuel? Same as thailand or same as Singapore? Or higher?
  15. Hi all Would like to check if there is a software available to consumers which can allow remote tracking of your location, speed, and even if your car is idiling or stopped how much would be reasonable? I would think this is useful especially in the situation where there is a dispute in your road speed (if you were accused of speeding) and of course in the instance whereby you lose your vechicle. Or if you do lend it out occasionally and would like to keep tabs. This software can track your car via software or internet platform, already being used commercially. Oh yeah it is pretty tough to remove it... I am actually developing a software together with hardware with the above features.

  18. Letter from ANG SU SZE CAROLYN I AM a junior college student. On July 27 at about 4.40pm, I boarded SBS service 86 (licence plate SBS 204E) with a fellow schoolmate. We were both wearing our school uniforms at the time. I had forgotten to bring my wallet that day and hence did not have my student pass with me, leaving me with no choice but to pay the fare by coins. To my indignation and surprise, the bus captain insisted that I pay the adult fare, even when it was quite evident I was a student. He mumbled something about having to account to the company over a certain policy, but did not make himself clear about the details. Prior to boarding his bus, I had alighted from an SMRT bus without encountering such a rule. I can only guess that such a rule had been put in place to deter members of the public from taking advantage of the student concession. But, it is preposterous to suspect that I would put on a school uniform just to avoid paying a few extra cents. I was also travelling with a fellow schoolmate who was in her uniform as well. This should have made it even more obvious that I was not masquerading as a student. In the end, I reluctantly paid the adult fare but did not receive a satisfactory explanation as to why I was denied the concession rate. I gave feedback to SBS Transit via their website on July 29 and have not received any response to date. I would like them to clarify their stand on this issue. If the person is clearly a student, why should he or she not be accorded the concession rate? Shouldn
