The famous (or is it infamous) maker of the Chery QQ is back with a new sub-brand called Omoda. The B&B brand of China's automotive giant - Chery Automobile. For Singapore, Chery has assigned Vertex Automobiles as the Authorized Distributor (AD) of the Omoda brand and only one model is currently available - the Omoda E5. First released back in April 2024 in the Cat B territory with 150kW of power. Unfortunately for Chery and Vertex, sales were lackluster for the first six months (April 2024 to September 2024) with only 51 units being sold. With sales going no where, both decided to wise up and offer the 99kW power front drive motor Cat A version of the Omoda E5 around early October 2024 and sales have kicked into high gear. In the last six month period (from December 2024 to May 2025), a total of 154 units have been sold. A solid 200% improvement in sales simply by offering the Cat A version of the E5 and an annual run rate of over 300 units. Three cheers for consumers and the market in showing what Chery/Vertex should have done in the first place. Hip-hip-hooray...! Details above on the Omoda E5. With five passengers and cargo, the maximum total load is 536kg. A unique feature is the front side charging port of the Omoda E5. Which means you'll have to get used to front parking into the charger (which is normally located at the rear of MSC) rather than the reverse parking. The Omoda E5 also comes with a small (19L) front truck - can store a few packets of smelly durian there. A full size spare tire s available underneath the boot! Not many BEV's have this feature and will come in handy one day when travelling up north. Cargo space for the boot is a bit small, about 300L and with the back seats folded down - increases to 1,079L. Some additional data on the E5. Battery type: LFP Blade battery (think it comes from BYD) Battery capacity: 61kWhr Charging time: 8 hours on [email protected] (three phase) from 0 to 100% and around 45 minutes on DC@80kW from 10% to 80%. The DC charging rate is low powered and thus slow. Driving range: 430 km (WLTP cycle) Claimed coefficient of drag: 0.281 Energy consumption: 15.5 kWhr / 100 km Drive unit: 99kW for Cat A and 150kW for Cat B. Maximum torque: 340Nm Top speed: 172 km/hr. The century sprint is a pokey 11.1 seconds for Cat A version. The interior starts with fake food and fake leather materials. Lots of soft touches where contact points are to make it feel better than Toyota/Honda/Nissan/Hyundai/Kia which have hard plastics. Close enough to some conti brands for the price paid on a B&B ride. Whilst Chery/Vertex will claim a 24.6" wide front screen, it's actually split into two 12.3" screens. There is the 12.3" infotainment touch screen that supports wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Next to it is the 12.3" digital instrument cluster behind the wheel for the driver. The drive mode selector is located at the steering wheel (freeing up space in the center console) with buttons nearby for those who prefer some physical contact rather than going through the center infotainment touchscreen. More physical buttons on the center console. The 50W wireless charger with cooling and is hidden beneath the front hatch. Apparently the front arm rest comes with a cooling system. Unfortunately no panoramic roof to get the feeling of open space while drive - only the standard sunroof for the front passengers. The front seats are ventilated - good for the hot weather of Singapore. Driver's seat is six adjustable while the front passenger is only four way. Processor powering the display is the older Qualcomm 8155. There's a 360 deg surround view camera available to help with parking at MSC. The Advanced Driving Assistant Systems (ADAS) is at least Level 2, Chery claims to be 2.5. There's been some over the air software updates that allow settings to be remembered when the vehicle is switched OFF and then back ON again - will save some frustrations in getting those annoying bings/bongs silenced every time one gets into the car. With high CoE costs (Cat A at $101.1k) the current price of $159.9k seems a good deal. Will do a follow up post on cost breakdown on the Omoda E5.

Did i mention that the day is near and that if the rest are not careful, PRC cars coming into PHEV from full EVs are going to hit them hard. Expect more China brands coming into this segment with longer and longer ranges. Now i am excited. https://carnewschina.com/2024/03/28/geely-and-byd-claim-2000-km-range-for-phev-systems/ https://carnewschina.com/2024/03/29/live-chery-challenge-2000-km-range-in-a-phev/

To reduce financial burden, My sister traded in her 5 years G9 to get Chery A168, occasionally I drove once and loaded 4 adults, to me surprised the engine is quiet, and responsive not lose my sunny , and my sister told me after 1k service FC also become better, now about 13km/l under 50/50 drive pattern, even slightly better than previous G9 of course interior looks much plastic and unrefined handicraft compare to Jap/Tahi cars, else durability, reliability...etc all are doubts, but only use to carry kids to/from school and drive to/from work, should be capable only $30k+, how much do you expect lah?

This thread is only for MCFers who have personally test-drove the QQ before and bother to give a detailed review. Pls keep it clean... For a start, I will extract posts from the 20plus page QQ thread over.

Anyone knows where in Singapore or JB sells rear spoiler for Chery A5? I know there are many rear spoilers available in China for this car, but it is inconvenient to bring it back as it is too bulky. Thanks

read in asiaone.com.sg that a customer sent his car for repairs. when collecting the car next day, there is a 47 km increase in mileage. Customer suspects that his car is being used by the workshop for personal errands. the workshop deny any wrong doings. Guys, do take note of your mileage when collecting the car.

They are using the Eastar platform but with new exterior and interior design makeup. The suspension is tuned by Lotus. The design is not to match todays design but is something like Honda Stream. The finishing looks so much better than the previous Eastar. The dimension: 4730 x 1823 x 1590, WB 2800mm There are 2 version in Malaysia, the Standard version that begins at RM86,800 while the Premium goes for RM93,800 Read more: http://paultan.org/2015/01/26/chery-maxime-launched-in-malaysia/#ixzz3XhM9kTGC The engine and the CVT gear box has been using on current Chery Tiggo 5, a 2.0L SUV http://www.autohome.com.cn/drive/201312/679154-5.html If you can read Chinese you may click the follow link: http://www.autohome.com.cn/advice/201504/867675.html

Wonder why no one brought in the ladas THey may be dated, but solidly built cars with simple engines, may have been a good proposition for a cheap opc with minimal maintenance IMHO still better than the china cars The Lada Nivas were well commended for its robustness and off road ability - able to withstand punishment I also find that the ladas have a some what muscular appeal to their design - poor man's range rover defender perhaps Also remembered a friend having a lada samara, the gears required brute force to shift but the engine note , and the way the car moves - feels like a chunk of brute force being propelled against the road, quite a nice feeling

In 2013, China produced a whopping 18.7 million cars. That equates to 22.7 per cent of global car production. But while many of these models were from companies we’ve never heard of, some look very similar to those produced by their European counterparts. Does this look familiar? Check-out the copycat cars below, alongside the models they seem to have drawn inspiration from... JAC A6 and Audi A6 While some companies won’t let on just which car they might be imitating, it seems that JAC was quite happy to own up when it badged its latest release the A6. Yes, that’s right, the A6. Not only does it have the exact same name as the Audi A6 saloon, but it looks very similar to the original model. It’s the grille and stepped headlights that really give the game away. Copied: Audi A6 Copycat: JAC A6 BAIC X424 and Jeep Cherokee Another model that looks more like a merging of two cars than just a single copy of one. The BAIC X424 has a hint of the Jeep Cherokee at the front with the large grille openings, while the side profile is clearly taken from the rugged Wrangler model. Perhaps the company felt that customers wouldn’t be happy with just one Jeep and instead wanted the best of both. Copied: Jeep Cherokee Copycat: BAIC X424 BYD S7 and Lexus RX While some imitations are fairly obvious at a glance, others are disguised a little better. The BYD S7 may not have the look of the Lexus RX from the front, but there’s no hiding the similarities towards the rear, with the same curved windows, small spoiler and tail-lights. BYD has done a decent job of keeping this quiet, but not good enough. Copied: Lexus RX Copycat: BYD S7 Geely GE and Rolls-Royce Phantom Fancy the luxury of a Rolls-Royce Phantom, but don’t quite have the £305,000 to cover the costs? Well the Geely GE might just be the thing for you. It’s got the big chrome grille and even an imitation Spirit of Ecstasy on the bonnet. Just make sure nobody gets too close to see what it actually is. Copied: Rolls-Royce Phantom Copycat: Geely GE Lifan 330 and MINI The round headlights, that front grille and the cheeky hatchback shape... the Lifan 330 has more than a hint of the second-generation MINI Cooper about it. When it was launched at April’s Beijing Motor Show, even the press release hailed the car as fashionable, artistic and with ‘mini’ temperament. Lifan was just ahead of the British brand with the five-door bodystyle, however, but that’s no excuse. Copied: MINI Copycat: Lifan 330 Chery Riich M1 and Toyota Yaris The Chery Riich M1 is a small hatchback designed for inner city commuters. While the front end is ugly enough to not really resemble anything on UK roads, the curvaceous side profile and rear of the car look like a direct lift from the Toyota Yaris MkII. Fortunately for Toyota that’s where the similarities end, and it’s unlikely to ever be any real competition to the established – and far more attractive – hatchback. Copied: Toyota Yaris Copycat: Chery Riich M1 Zotye T600 and Volkswagen Touareg The large SUV, revealed at April’s Beijing Motor Show, is a doppelganger of two models from the VW Group. Take the Audi Q5 and VW Touareg, mix a few of the parts together and this is the result. On the show stand the Zotye T600 was even glistening in the same shade of brown as the VW. Surely more than a coincidence? Copied: Volkswagen Touareg Copycat: Zotye T600 Brilliance V5 and BMW X1 Brilliance is the partner of BMW in China, and the X1 compact crossover went on sale in the country through the partnership. So, it’s interesting to see that Brilliance launched its very own rival to the X1, dubbed the V5. It’s probably one of the closest copies we’ve ever seen. Of course, this version is cheaper than the BMW model, but is only sold in China. Copied: BMW X1 Copycat: Brilliance V5
