  2. Since UOB is out of Shell and HSBC and citi came in, which is a better choice at Shell? just to round up: HSBC Visa: 10% (station) + 8% (rebate, need to spend 600+ every month, not necessary to be patrol) = FES 17.2% Citi Dividen: 10% (station) + 4% (cash rebate) + 4% (Dividen rebate min 50 spend in patrol) = FES 18.1% BUT!!!! for HSBC card, whenever you spend, like dining or shopping or NTUCing, S$5 = 1 escape point and fyi 600 points = 20 dollar shell voucher. very very complicated! why they cant just give discount when we pump. haiz... have been using Citi for months and now thinking to switch to HSBC. what.s your thought?
  3. The calculation is confusing. For $60 of petrol, is the net amount supposed to be $44.40 or $45.60? The cashier yesterday argued with me saying is because HSBC discount changed so its now $45.60. But I gotten $44.40 many times before.

Anyone encounter not receiving their bill and asking for payment? For my case I signed up with HSBC because I always use shell for my car. Till date I am waiting for the hardcopy bill so that I can verify and pay. Last night I could not use my card to pay for my petrol because it was stopped by the bank. Never in my life have I ever had any bank stop my credit before. Just want to check if anyone else encounter such issue.
  6. does any one have the email contact of HSBC Singapore senior members, who i can drop a complaint note to? They have been taking so long (3 mths) to follow up on my query relating to my HSBC Revo Sign-up rebate. Told me they will call me back, but never do. One CSO told me one thing, another told me another. I am not sure if droppinng a feedback on the HSBC site will be useful or not, hence i thought going through senior mgt team will find a faster resolution. If youu have it, don mind pls PM me on the contacts? thank you very much.
  7. HSBC lax in preventing money laundering by cartels, terrorists source >> http://money.cnn.com/2012/07/16/news/compa...ney-laundering/ NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Global banking giant HSBC failed to prevent billions of dollars worth of money transfers that Senate investigators believe were linked to drug cartels and terrorist groups, according to a report released Monday. The Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations said London-based HSBC (HBC) failed to review thousands of suspicious transactions and properly vet clients over the past decade. Among other issues, the report notes that in 2007 and 2008, HSBC's Mexico unit shipped $7 billion in cash to the bank's U.S. affiliate, a volume of shipments that law enforcement officials said could reach that size "only if they included illegal drug proceeds." HSBC Mexico had a number of high-profile clients linked to drug trafficking, the report says, as well as "a huge backlog of accounts marked for closure due to suspicious activity, but whose closures were delayed." The subcommittee also found that HSBC worked extensively with Saudi Arabia's Al Rajhi Bank, some owners of which have been linked to terrorism financing. Some evidence suggests Al Rajhi's "key founder" was "an early financial benefactor of al Qaeda," the report says.

  10. Singapore came out pretty good in the first round. Companies were already cutting to the bones. How would we fare this time? ----- UPDATE 2-HSBC may cut more than 10,000 jobs - report Related News HSBC close to decision on thousands of job cuts -report Wed, Jul 27 2011 * More than 10,000 jobs at HSBC could go - Sky News * HSBC spokeswoman in Hong Kong declines to comment * Credit Suisse says to cut 2,000 jobs (Adds Credit Suisse cuts, background, HSBC shares) HONG KONG, July 28 (Reuters) - HSBC Plc may cut more than 10,000 jobs as it embarks on a cost-cutting drive, Sky News reported, citing people close to Europe's biggest bank. The bank's plans have not yet been finalised, Sky News added, citing an insider at the bank . A HSBC spokeswoman in Hong Kong declined to comment. HSBC's move would be the latest in a wave of cuts announced by the global financial industry, which has been hit by market volatility and lacklustre profits. Just on Thursday, Swiss bank Credit Suisse announced it would cut about 2,000 jobs. Standard Chartered , Lloyds , Goldman Sachs and UBS are among banks that have announced job cuts in recent months, hit by rising costs and weak revenue growth. State Street Corp , one of the world's biggest institutional investors, said earlier this month it would eliminate as many 850 jobs from its technology unit as it tries to curb costs. HSBC has about 330,000 employees worldwide, and the Sky report comes after it said in May it was looking for sustainable cost savings of $2.5 billion to $3.5 billion in order to reach a cost efficiency ratio target of 48-52 percent by 2013. It also said it would be conducting a strategic review of its cards business in the United States, and would limit its retail banking operations to markets where it can achieve profitable scale. It already cut 700 jobs in its UK retail banking arm in June this year out of its staff of 55,000 in the country, one of many banks that have said they will cull jobs to save costs as lenders fight off a limp economic recovery. HSBC shares in Hong Kong were down 1.1 percent by noon, in line with the broader market's 1 percent decline. (Reporting by Kelvin Soh; Editing by Ken Wills and Muralikumar Anantharaman)
  11. Been looking at renewing car insurance and found an online website that provided quotes from different insurers. It's the first time that I notice HSBC provides comprehensive insurance with COE and insurance without COE. Anyone can explain what's the difference? (I thought that if it's comprehensive insurance, in case of a total loss, the insurer will pay an amount equivalent to market value of car)
  12. Chance upon this news and I don't know if most people knew about it.....I for 1 do not know HSBC Fine Print Submitted by hallion on April 27, 2011 - 8:48pm HSBC upgraded their ATM cards in the past several months, Customers were told within a few weeks the old card will expire even know I still had months if not 1 year to left, all sounds good. What HSBC didn't tell their customers that once you use started using the new card your old conditions agreement was void and new agreement give the bank the right to sell your personal details all in small fine print ! I have looked at my old ATM card customers agreement (Small Print) and the new customers agreement side by side, HSBC has added this clause into the new customers agreement, tell you that HSBC has the right to pass on / sell your personal details for marketing etc. Since I've started using my new ATM, I get SMS / calls selling services etc by HSBC or agents. Today I was in my Local branch, 2 other people were complaining about the same think. HSBC staff were very red faced when this was brought to thier attention in black and white about the "upgrade " to the small print. Every customer need to be a where of this new clause.

  17. Source: http://sg.news.yahoo.com/afp/20080926/tts-...in-972e412.html HONG KONG (AFP) - - Banking giant HSBC is to cut 1,100 jobs worldwide because of the volatile global financial environment, a spokesman said Friday. The cuts will be made in the global banking and market division, with around half of those losing their jobs in HSBC's British operations, Hong Kong-based spokesman Gareth Hewett said. "The steps we have taken today are in the light of the current global business and economic environment and our cautious outlook for 2009," he said in a statement. "Markets continue to be challenging and difficult but our strategy leaves us well positioned for the next wave of global growth, when it comes." Around 100 jobs will go in Hong Kong. The jobs would be cut in both front and back office operations, Hewett said. The statement said that global pre-tax profits for the division were 2.7 billion dollars in the first half of 2008, down 35 percent over the first half of 2007 but 37 percent higher than in the second half of 2007. HSBC employs around 330,000 people worldwide. The global banking and market division includes investment banking, treasury and trading operations. The market reacted positively to the news of job cuts. Hong Kong-traded shares of HSBC were up 0.5 percent at 2:30 pm (0630 GMT) against a falling overall market. Global markets have been in the doldrums for the past year over worries about access to credit, stemming from the dire state of the US housing market and unwise lending. The situation has worsened in the past two weeks as major financial institutions have required government-backed rescue packages, and investment banking giant Lehman Brothers was forced into bankruptcy. HSBC was one of the first banks to warn of the problems among products linked to the high-risk US mortgage sector. The British-based bank's US division has suffered diminishing profits as a result of the credit crisis. Last week, the bank said it had scrapped a six billion dollar deal to buy a major South Korean bank after the financial crisis cut asset values worldwide. HSBC said in it had terminated the deal to buy a 51 percent stake in Korea Exchange Bank (KEB) from US buyout fund Lone Star, "taking into account all relevant factors including current asset values in world financial markets."
  18. I called HSBC up to wavie my annual fee and instead they wanted me to offset my bonus points instead . I said no bonus points. Then they offer me no alternative , ask me settle outstanding balance and write in to cancel card Sad man . I have been their loyal customer , charging about $1k - 2k every month. Disappointed to be treated like this. Compared to banks like Citibank , it was so easy to get them to wavie it off...
  19. Just applied for this card and received it. Main purpose of getting this card was for buying cheaper GV movie tickets. I have 2 questions 1) Is the 5% discount at Caltex station given upfront? 2) For the Choice card, when you make a payment at selected store, do you give the cashier the Choice card only or is it together with the credit card? Thanks

  24. I'm currently using the citibank dividend card to get the 5% cash rebate... but I'm now contemplating getting an HSBC card to enjoy the 5% direct upfront discount. Which HSBC card in your opinion is the best value to get? i.e can accumulate points also etc. I'm actually quite anti-credit cards... so getting a new card is quite a big thing for me. That's why must think properly before jumping in... so hope you guys can help give some advice on this. Thanks!
